I'm pretty sure every hot sauce (and to a lesser extent, marinade, rub and dip) is stocked in this store. It is nothing but wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling shelves of condiments. The best part is that they offer free, unlimited samples of ALL their products, accompanied by bottomless piles of corn chips. The samples are spaced all throughout the interior counter in such a way that you can sample at your own pace without feeling like you're being monitored. SPICE FANS: If you have a high spice tolerance like me, you would be absolutely remiss in not doing the Pepper Palace challenge. Anyone who manages to eat a corn chip dipped in "The Hottest Sauce in the Universe" (actual name) is given a goofy pair of glasses and a headband with chili peppers on top to wear to have their picture taken by the staff, who then add your picture to their slideshow of "The Brave", which is continuously broadcast on the TV at the back. If you do this challenge, here are some things to keep in mind: - The label above the sauce states you must be 18 or older to try it - Make sure you have gotten a staff member's attention before you try the sauce. Otherwise, you will have suffered for nothing as there is no way to prove you ate it after the fact - Undoubtedly due to liability concerns, the staff are not super picky about how MUCH of the sauce you try. But don't be like the pretentious dick who went after me who only put one drop of the sauce on a whole chip, ate it, and then spent the next 10 minutes loudly proclaiming, "That wasn't so bad. I can't believe people think this is spicy!" If you're going to do it, don't be a wuss. Dip the whole chip in the sauce like I did - The sauce is made with ghost chilis, which are recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the hottest pepper in the world. That means that if you eat a whole chip's worth, you WILL feel the burn. Not at first, but it will build slowly over time until your insides feel like they're being incinerated by cyanide-laced knives. When that happens, DON'T DRINK WATER (a common rookie mistake)! Instead, go to the back of the room and scarf down as much cream cheese as you can. Dairy stamps out the fire the way water never can Happy Eating! read more

This is a total tourist trap. All of the hot sauces are overpriced. And yet... What a selection! Any hot sauce you can think of and many that you never could, they have it. They will also let you sample as many as you like. They had a lot of samples out. Of course, after you have tried like 10 samples, you will feel obligated to buy something overpriced. Which we did. A $10 bottle of hot sauce as a gift for a family member. At least the flavor was unique (chipotle chocolate). Worth it? Maybe, maybe not. I will give it the benefit of the doubt since I have never seen so many hot sauces ever in one place. And they will let you taste as many as you like. Ironically (if that's the right word), we ended up buying a garlic hot sauce for $2.50 at some shop out in the middle of nowhere on our way out of Louisiana. Oh well. read more

The staff were very knowledgeable and answered questions as I tried them, including best pairings, recommendations, etc. Loved the whole experience, and there were so many I wanted to buy. Of course, I had to see/try what was their 10+'s (spiciest) were. They had two, and when the staff pointed out the #1 hot sauce in the world, I had to try it! And guess what, I had to sign a waiver. No bs, and I dipped the veryyyyyyy tip of a chip and wow it built up quick, sweating after 30 seconds. If you're a salsa kinda person, this will probably be your go to place. They have so many different salsa, hot sauce, dips and you can try any of them. There's samples with chips and they're lined all a long the bar which is super neat to me because usually I buy salsa back at home and have this regret not knowing what it tasted like before buying. The service is usually really good and all the other times I went this one guy really helped me out and was very energetic and helpful. I came back today and I explained to this one lady (tatted with glasses) what I was sort of looking for and she named ONE salsa out of all the salsas they had, JUST ONE and said that was closest and went back talking to her co-worker. She wasn't too attentive or helpful because she was SO busy doing her paperwork that she couldn't help her customers much....Deduct one star! Why are you even in the front of the store? read more

Wish they had a place like this where I'm from. They have a great selection of hot sauces to seasoning to dry rubs. Great for any food lover who wants an extra kick of flavor to their food. Unfortunately we didn't get any hot sauces because we only took carry on for our luggage, and wouldn't have been able to get it through security. We ended up buying plenty of seasoning/dry rubs. Love how they allow you to sample any sauce/seasoning in the store. Just a note, for those buying seasoning/dry rub, security at the airport has to check each individual container if you're doing carry on. An interesting little hot sauce store located in the heart of downtown New Orleans. The lady behind the counter was very kind to us and answered all of our questions. The one thing I did like about this store was you could sample the sauces. They have everything from sissy sweet sauces to ghost pepper hot sauce. Because it is located downtown there is near by parking but you will have to walk a ways. This is a really cool store. Shelf upon shelf of different hot sauces, spices, meat rubs, BBQ sauces and salsa, including some gift packs. Best part is that the rectangular counter, maybe 15' in length and 5' or so in width, has a bunch of their spices, salsa, hot sauce and BBQ sauces out with chips to dip in them and taste. The draw back to this place is that they are pricey. We went around the corner to a market store and found a couple of the items they had for a couple of bucks cheaper. I wish I could give more stars!!!!! This place was amazing for someone who has a love for the sauces. They have a ranking system on their heat from 1-10 and one special sauce that you have to sign a waiver to even try it is a 50!! There is literally a sauce for everything!! And the guy helping us navigate through all the sauces knew just the right things to tell us about each one! I must have tried at least 20 sauces in differing levels of heat and finally selected the perfect one for what I needed, though I will probably be ordering more ASAP because this one is such a hit!! I'm writing this review because of my curiosity of their hottest sauce offering leading to Cam, one of their attendants, trying it out for kicks. I watched him go through an unprecedented physical reaction, all because he poured a tiny dot on a sampler spoon that I eventually chickened out of (which he subsequently put in his mouth). So many sauces!! You can taste hot sauces at 1 to 10. I could only go as high as 4. You can also taste jams, mustards, ketchups, hot wings sauce, BBQ sauce, salsa, queso, and other things. The price per a bottle of the sauce is about $10.00. reasonable. Went to NOLA on a little vacation and while walking around admiring the sites we crossed paths with Pepper Palace on Chartres St., had an amazing stock of rubs, sauces, gadgets and an amazing employee named Cassandra, she was so helpful from the time we entered until we walked out the door, knew all the products and let us know the heat levels they had, plenty of samples to try. She is a very knowledgeable young woman at her job and had an answer for every question we had. I have heard so much about Pepper Palace even before coming to New Orleans but here I was walking in for the first time myself. You'll see red EVERYWHERE you walk. What's great is that you're immediately greeted and helped so that you don't inadvertently walk into the aisle where they contain their hottest products. I just wanted to preface this that I do like spicy things. I'm no wimp when it comes to sauces that burn off your mucosa. So of course, we start with the medium spicy sauces. I gather some on a tortilla chip and immediately, my pavlov dog inside gets set off. I feel my pores on my scalp open up and sweat starts dripping down. Everyone looks at me asking if I was ok and whether it was too spicy. You could make that argument if the tortilla chip were actually in my mouth but this is anticipatory sweating. Of course when I do finally eat it it's actually not all that spicy at all but the tingling in my mouth sets off the cascade of water droplets from my forehead. I was told "hey, maybe you should try this nonspicy marinade over here." Ok, so no matter how I described it, the amount of reaction I got did not make anyone feel comfortable giving me anything more spicy even though I swear this is all anticipatory reactions that my body set off. I do have to say that they have a nice collection of everything though from hot sauces to marinades. For those really adventurous, you can try your hand at the black label stuff that is completely wrapped in... black labels. You actually have to sign a waiver and cannot be under the age of 18 to try given how spicy it was. I dared not try that one.... Again, a great place to just pick up some gifts for friends. She pointed me in the general direction of about 60 different sauces like I'm supposed to know which ones are hotter than others with all of them claiming to be blazing your balls off hot.
