I love this local store! One of my friends told me about it and I'm so glad she did! I stopped by and Tessa and Danny (sp?) helped me find all the items I needed and didn't even know I needed! I wanted some sage for my new office but since burning it might be an issue in my office building, Tessa suggested Rose Water as well. I also found some beautiful gemstones with helpful descriptions. I stocked up on pyrite, malachite, Labradorite, amethyst, rose quartz, and smoky quartz! I also found some cinnamon pinecones that were half off. I bought one bundle for work and one for home for decorations! I really like this store and plan on getting a gift card, maybe some tea and maybe some spices! Happy shopping! read more

I arrived late to attend a three part Spell Work class this evening. The instructor came to door and told me I couldn't come in because I was 30 minutes late. I told her I was sorry, but I had a conflict and came as soon as I could. She said that I could come next week for the second class and I told her I wasn't that late and asked if I could just slip in as I was already there. She told me that they had just gone over the "definitions" and I couldn't come in and participate. I asked her if there was some literature or a syllabus and she said no. Once again, I asked if I could step in and she refused. It was a strange conversation and I really don't know what to make out of it. I'm a quick study and I believe if I had been allowed to enter I would have caught up. The definitions couldn't have been that sacred or difficult to learn. I told her I guess I need a refund and without batting an eye she told me to contact the store the next business day. She didn't even seem to care that I was going to try and get my money back. So much for customer service and I guess they didn't really need my $90.00. I didn't read anything that said if we were late to a class that we couldn't come in and I understand that everyone has their policies. However, I'm not paying for this series since I have now missed the first one. I sent an email to the store and today the manager/owner, Christiana called and told me she was sorry and had already sent my refund. She was very nice and I appreciate that she got back with me this morning. I've bought things from the shop over the years, but didn't take another class until now. This shop was recommended to me and I decided to pop in last Saturday to pick up some Elder berry for my daughter. Unfortunately they didn't have any, and they said that they don't know when they will have more. My 9 year old loved the feel of the place and even commented how the clerk looked "like a happy person". I picked out some tea, which I drank that night, and it is delish. My daughter liked the variety of rocks there and picked out a sharks tooth to go with her collection. I was bummed about the elderberry because we needed it and were excited to get it at their sale so I guess it would be smart to call first if you need a specific item. All in all, it is a cute place that has a large variety of herbs and other natural medicinal items. read more

During my frequent visits to New Orleans I always make way to my favorite herb shop Rosalie Apothecary in Mid City. Natural remedies are an important part of my self care and Rosalie has an incredible array of tinctures and herbs. I find ample options of herbs and citrus peels to add a unique flavor to my Yerba Mate tea (from my native land in South America) The shop is quaint, the staff knowledgeable and very helpful. I was here to buy incense. I didn't feel like driving and parking and the whole hassle at the French Market so i looked on Yelp and found this place. I found a parking spot right across the street and entered the very small shop. Upon entering, I greeted the lone employee and I'm still not sure if she said anything in return. There was another customer in the store when I entered but she was browsing and the employee was alone at the counter. I found some incense and by the time i did, the other customer had left so I looked around to see what else there was. There was a wall full of herbs, spices, and seasonings. I saw some handmade soaps but I was only there for the incense. I got about 4 packs and made my way out. I have read other reviews here and I will add mine. With such a small shop, I expected to be greeted FIRST. And loud enough for me to hear. Again, I'm not sure if my greeting was returned. It's not like the place was overflowing with customers. Since I got the feeling I didn't really belong, I will probably just deal with the hassle down at the French Market the next time I need incense. Or find someplace else to get it. read more

This is a pretty and quaint store with many different herbs and scents to look through. For a small store there were lot of products to see, such as products that are for ingesting and products for the skin. I got two toners and they were so affordable at 3.75 for a bottle of rose water toner and also a bottle of orange blossom toner. The ladies working there were friendly and helpful with explaining to me what different products were. I am leaving New Orleans with cute souvenir products from here and would love to come back again next time I visit to look through more of their products! read more

Love this shop! Felt right at home the minute I walked through the door. I'm a breastfeeding mother and needed some advice on herbal supplements to help with my milk supply. I was so overwhelmed with everything I was reading on the Internet and just needed somebody who knew what they were talking about to help me. That's what I got at Rosalie! They were so knowledgeable and so attentive and respectful of my issues. Not to mention they have an amazing selection of herbs at great prices. I visited recently (7/30) and the lady inside was rude & screamed to me from the inside "we're close"...not sure if it was my race or what but I see perhaps maybe it was...there's only 2-3 other apothecary in New Orleans and MAYPOP in Bywater is very friendly. I am recently certified as a Herbalist and I'm trying to prepare my own herbs and apothecary but I will not be supporting a business who's attitude should reflect her business of healing, health and genuine concern for all people. After reading reviews this owner is obviously against blacks. Will never visit or promote, I will actually spread the word of her rude behavior and discriminatory reviews on yelp. I was clearly aware they were close but because of my new ventures into herbalism I peeped inside...the owner then screamed "WE ARE CLOSE"...I'm an intelligent woman and I can obviously see that...the same herbs on the website 5months ago looks like the same herbs. I wonder how fresh the herbs are and with her attitude I don't want to purchase any essence or energy from this place. I moved to New Orleans last year after my house flooded in Baton Rouge. It was a difficult time; I arrived in NOLA broke, friendless and downtrodden. I went to Rosalie one day looking for some relief - dried rose and lavender for a cheap treat-yo-self bath. Not only did I find the herbs I was looking for, I also found warm, inviting and nurturing energy in the space and its people. Rosalie is now the first place I go for any ailment and I'm always treated with expert care and a listening ear. I've taken classes and regularly participate in the new moon women's circle, and the community that I've found there has welcomed me without judgment. The staff is always helpful, and willing to find me whatever I need if they don't have it. I originally came for the herbs (which are really high quality!), but this little shop offers so much more than that. There are so many reasons to keep coming back! read more

Went there with my girlfriend to try and buy some vitamin B12. The lady working said that they did not sell vitamins. She said she didn't know much about vitamins. We tried to describe what Vb12 did for the body. We didn't know that well, then again we don't work in an apothecary. All we knew is that it helps energize us when we both have to work a lot. We felt awkward af. Later this is what I got when I used Webster dictionaries to describe what an apothecary is, 'a person who prepared and sold medicines and drugs.' Next time I will go to Walgreens and not end up feeling stupid inside. read more

I truly should have read the reviews first, as a black woman. I caution anyone of the culture about this space. Number one, as a shop that supplies to those of us with spiritual, healing, and energy gifts, leanings, and workings, you would have to know that the vibe can be read and discerned. No one was outright rude to me but I definitely was not assisted, was watched strangely and all of the tones were either rough or fake giggly. But being not from NOLA I just went to the closest apothecary near where I was staying. I'm just always interested in the fact that there was so much in the way of other cultures' spirit work and using the vibe to brand authenticity while being nothing but a white folks paradise because everyone else seemed to be just fine. They were super warm when anyone else came in. Also owners of this shop, please spare me the nothing spiel and long essay you gave to another black woman in your reviews. I have no intention of reading it nor returning to your shop and if you hosted any night about racial talks I would never come because despite what you say about being a vehicle for change... girl, it is going on 2 years since the other review on your terrible racially influenced vibes and yet... here I am writing this review about the same experience that she had. So clearly you haven't done the work. I found it interesting how you started off responding to her crying systematic racism and ending with excuses for YOUR behavior. No responsibility taken, you are indeed running a new age racist shop. This is a caution to folks of the culture... i.e. Black culture so this review is not for you. I have tried with these people. I really have. The store is a lovely store with a great selection, and the owner is a nice enough person. However, the majority of the girls she has working there seem to go out of their way to be unpleasant. Instead of "welcome! How can a we help you spend your money?", their general attitude is an air of superiority with a desperate need for you to know that they belong there and you do not. I hate doing business with them because I always feel shitty when it's over. However they are the only apothecary in mid city. I would love to support local businesses, but I find myself ordering from online retailers to avoid having to interact with these mean girls. read more

The energy in this shop is terrible, i felt like i couldn't breathe.. was looking for damiana( they didn't have any in) and the lady working had a very condescending attitude, and looked at me like "what are you doing here" when i walked in. She then tried telling me she's the only shop that sells the herb in the city, which is not true Herb Import sells it as well. I may be being a little dramatic but I will never go back to this place. I had them make a tincture for me for a blood sugar issue and it was incredibly effective. I will say another plus is the atmosphere. I had visited this shop 1 time and haven't been back since. The owner happily greeted and helped others who came in after me but when it was my turn (had to wait for them to be serviced before me/ not because I wasn't ready) I had to wait for her to sit in front of me and eat her lunch first then listen to her complain/ shitty reason why she took the white male in front of me even though I was there first and waiting on her. I got some items which were not on par but, mainly the blatant disrespect of me, my money (trying to qualify my pockets), AND my time still to this day stays a rueful memory. After reading the reviews (I found this shop in a local business magazine) on here it was definitely a racial issue that is still pervasive today. I honestly got bad vibes upon entering and should have been greeted but, I was not. Never getting a penny again. Also I never used any of the herbs because she didn't wash her hands/vibes. read more

Was in town visiting with a whole crew of black farmers, growers and healers for a retreat and training. We were so excited that we were staying so close to the store. We went in and the staff was very stand offish, didn't ask us any questions about what we may need, was cold and not friendly at all. We were ready to spend lots of money as we were on the way to the airport and wanted to bring gifts back. We ended up leaving after a few minutes. No other customers were in the store and the staff just turned their backs and kept talking with each other instead of engaging with us or even asking us one question. So sad that this place is in a community and doesn't really understand and the mission of herbalism: to connect with people for their healing. A little engagement and some customer service could go a long way. My one friend who was with us facilitates herbal medicine workshops in Atlanta and is a farmer. What a missed opportunity to connect and support another person on the field. What a joke this place was for us. I wonder if we were a group of white women if we would have received a warm and welcoming display. read more
