Her work was our first choice and our initial online contact was the more informative and detail-oriented than the other henna artists I contacted. Unfortunately, Covid changed our plans as I was about to contract with her. When it came time to schedule again, I decided to review several artists again - just because that is who I am. Since we are not Indian, but the groom is, we consulted his mother for recommendations. Independently, the mother of the groom asked around and her friends thought Shazia's work was first rate too. Unfortunately, it looked like there might be a conflict with the day that the bride preferred to have her henna done, but Shazia made it work. Shazia put in a 12 hour day to fit us in - and her work did not suffer for it. She arrived with everything including her own table and chairs that she wiped down in between clients. When she came back to do the bridesmaids' hands, she took extra time to help the non-Indians. She was so kind and friendly that she even helped them learn to fold a duppata properly for the evening's festivities. I only am pointing out that it was a mix of Indian and non-Indian guests to stress that everyone was pleased with her talent, and kindness. I highly recommend Shazia. I felt bad when I, being clumsy, smudged the paste while it was still drying but she was completely cool with it, said that it happens all the time, and had no problem fixing it. I recently moved to the DMV from NY for school and decided to go with her salon because I wanted to support a small business and the other reviews were great! Booking the appointment was seamless. Annum was able to accommodate an earlier appointment time for me since I had a scheduled meeting later that afternoon. I visited her almost a month ago on April 6th, 2021 so here is my comprehensive review. My balayage took a little under 1.5 hours to complete. She was very efficient while also ensuring that my hair retained its natural moisture and health. She made sure that she respected my time due to my meeting later that evening. When I returned home, I did notice that the toner didn't take on a small but noticeable section of my hair that was noticeably blonde. I immediately texted Annum to let her know and she squeezed me in the same day to reapply the toner for the area, which was a very quick fix. Not every hair stylist would show this level of dedication to ensure that I had the best experience. After a month, the color has held up beautifully and I've received endless compliments on her work. In terms of parking, there are public parking garages on the same street that are affordable and accessible (~$1.25/hr). Highly recommend booking her, she's very professional, honest, and genuinely takes care of her clients! Support your small businesses and book her!!

Long story short, I came to Annum after nearly 2 years of not letting anyone touch my hair because of a disaster that left me in tears with shoulder length hair when I was supposed to only get an inch off my super long hair (obvs, this wasn't her who did it). Now I literally only trust Annum to do my hair and recommend her to all my coworkers, friends, and family. Not only is she precise with all her cuts and color, she can also recommend what she thinks will be flattering for you which is especially nice for people who may not come in with inspo pictures. After she brought life back to my sad hair, I trusted her to finally go ahead and give me some color with a balayage. I haven't looked back since then and have only been going lighter with each visit! The best part is that even several months later, my balayage looks fresh and perfect despite my hair growing out. I personally give her creative freedom and trust her with whatever color she thinks is gonna look great on me but you can always bring/show her what you want and she'll recreate it to the best of her abilities! Remember folks, every artist is different and uses different techniques so an exact recreation isn't really possible. She's great at listening to what you want while also protecting your hair from any unnecessary damage and if you aren't happy with it (which I'm sure is rare) she'll fix it! Annum herself is a delight to come in and see. She's always so sweet and sociable - it's always fun to talk to her while she's working her magic on my locks! I appreciate that she has her own private suite in a salon with other artists which does make her hijabi friendly BUT bear in mind that there are men who will walk around as they probably work there too. I have hijabi friends who don't see this as a problem but to each their own. In terms of pricing, I think her rates are very fair especially considering what some other salons (super side-eye to yall) charge for balayages and color services that aren't even close to beauty that she creates. Again, bear in mind that while it isn't cheap - no hair stylist gives you a refund for services already done! Common sense right? Apparently not. Like I said before, if you aren't happy for whatever reason; let her know and she'll fix it. You'll be hard pressed to try and find ANY salon or stylist that'll refund you for any reason. Booking is easy but she does book super fast so make sure you make your appts well in advance! My thick desi hair won't let anyone else touch it so seriously, treat yoself and get your hair blessed by Annum and her magical hands!
