The food was good. I had a Roman style artichoke, lamb sweet breads, and carbonara. They all were great quality and tasted good. I would recommend eating here. Our hotel was directly across the street from this wonderful restaurant. I love both tripe and oxtails and they have both. Many locals go there not many tourists. Very traditional Romano restaurant, lovely carciofi and carbonara!!! Recommend! The pajata is not good as expected. We had dinner at this pleasant and welcoming restaurant, just off of the Aventine hill. They seated us, despite the lack of a reservation. This seemed like a lucky break, as most tables were full. The lively crowd was mostly local, (always a good sign) although we did meet a nice expat couple who were a font of knowledge about the whole region. For the first course, we split the oxtail ragu. The meat was rich and each bite contains an explosion of flavor. For my main, I had the roast lamb. (Which is accompanied by potatoes.) The lamb has crispy skin. Let's talk about my favourite restaurant in the entire world. I work on a cruise ship. I've been to 87 countries. I work hard, I play hard and I have to spend two hours in the gym each day because I love to eat. When I'm docked in Civitavecchia, I wake up at crackhead o'clock in the morning, run off the ship as soon as we dock, walk to the train station and head to Perilli. It's four hours, round-trip, door to door. The carbonara is worth it. Salty and delicious, I literally wipe the bowl clean with the bread. I'm vaguely in love with my favourite waiter, Valerio. He's about 65, has been working here since I was born and will not take any nonsense from anyone. Seriously. I brought a friend from South Africa and he ordered a bourbon and coke with lunch (common in SA, I guess). Valerio's response? "No. We don't do that here. You can have wine or beer. Your choice." Come here. Order the prosciutto and mozzarella to start. Carbonara for your main. Tiny strawberries, limoncello and coffee for dessert. This was one of our best meals in Rome. Period. Located in the off skirts of central Rome, this is a must do. It's an old-school establishment where the gentlemen servers still wear white dress shirts, bow ties, and the service is spectacular. They will bring you the delicious pasta beside your table, toss it, and serve you. Judging by the other patrons on a Sunday afternoon, locals eat here.. And the food? AMAZZZZING! The most popular dish here is the Rigatoni Carbonara and it is seriously second to none. It's cooked al dente and the sauce, flavors, and the crispy pancetta bits were the perfect combination. The serving is huge so come hungry so you can also enjoy a secondi! I had the buccatini amatriciana which was also delicious. The fat pasta noodles were hollow inside and since it was cooked al dente it was a little chewy. The red sauce was subtle but fresh and flavorful and this also had crispy pancetta. It was amazing! The oxtail was cooked tender and literally fell off the bone. It was braised in a tomato base and each order had 3-4 pieces. Very hearty! And the baked lamb chop? It looked like a shank bone instead of an american Chop. It was huge and came with a side of potatoes. Needless to say, we were way too full for our secondis after our large pastas. All this food with a bottle of red wine came out to about 70 euros which is seriously a deal when you consider it to be one of the best pastas in Rome. Perilli cannot, must not be missed! I think this place was established in 1911. Not much has changed, including the waiters. It's very old school Italian, in the best way possible. I was in Rome for work and my boss took the group to dinner here. It was such a fantastic introduction to true Italian food. We had several plates of "appetizers" to start with. Then came two courses of pasta. And then we come to the main courses of meats. Somehow I still found room at the end for a dish of their lemon gelato. It was all very good. Probably the most memorable will be the plate of white pasta. It looked so simple. But the al dente-ness of it was like nothing I had before in the US. And it was just pasta, oil, some cheese, and black pepper. So simple. As for service it's hard to tell as we were a really really large group. They weren't very good at serving the wine. I had our hotel make a reservation, which I would recommend, as this place was very crowded. As other Yelpers mentioned, this place has not changed much throughout the years. If your looking for a modern Italian restaurant this is not the place to go. Took some recommendations from here to try this place. The restaurant itself is hidden from the street with a small sign above a small not well light door. Inside decor and presentation is very dated. The carbonara was most definitely not the most amazing dish I've ever tasted and would go so far as to say I would not order it again. The fillet steak is exactly that. One fillet steak, oh and a slice of lemon which for €20 is very over priced. All in all for my last night in Rome, very disappointed. read more

I loved the buzz and cream tablecloths of this place, the chatty waiters and the fact that it was full of people on a Friday evening. The house wine is really good. This was a spectacular meal. I got the recommendation from the Eat Italy app that was a spot on tool for our gastronomical trip through Italy. The rigatoni carbonara is not to be missed. Only one of you will get the bowl it's mixed in, so fight over it! A surprise was the lovely al brodo with bucatini. My 11 year old was in heaven, but graciously shared a bit. Delicious!
