I was looking for somewhere new (to me) to have lunch, I found this one, and was pleasantly surprised. I cannot eat pasts (boo hoo) so I had meatballs in tomato sauce and a few veg, eggplant and red sweet peppers, my friend had saltimbocca alla romana and broccoli. Both meals were excellent, the meatballs were light and delicious. The house wine was not to our liking at all and we didn't have to pay for it. Christian treated us like family and was very accommodating. Christian showed us how to make pasta then took us back to the kitchen to show us how he makes the rest of the meal. This restaurant was by far my favorite in Italy. I had a few meals in Italy and nothing can quite measure up to this. We tried the pappardelle with wildbear sauce continued with the pizza Margherita, and ended with such a dessert delicacy, the kiss mousse. This was my first time in Italy and fell in love with the food because of this place! Earlier that day I had a pizza in another location and I was quite disappointed but trying the pizza Margherita here made me change my mind about Italian pizza :) The staff was really friendly as well and the owner, Christian. They were very helpful with the menu and stopped by the table a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. The environment felt great and I remember thinking this is what being in Italy is suppose to feel like. This was...is since I'm still here...such an experience. Not speaking any Italian made this so incredibly instructing, frustrating...but actually quite fun! It took nearly 30 minutes just to place our orders because of the misunderstandings between languages. Once we got that down they gave us wifi, beer and free sangria...so I had to write a review on the spot. The food was authentic, fast and fresh. The bruschetta is a must try. The ambiance is the perfect place to experience true Italian culture. I was even tempted to ask other customers if they speak English to make this even more fun. I don't know where to begin. We have eaten here three times, and each time was remarkable! The staff is attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and always engaging! The ambiance is inviting, and there is music in the background creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. This, however, is all in preparation for the real star and the reason you're here: the food. No matter how you start, they bring you homemade sangria. I do suggest the house wine (red and white were very good and compliment the food), and the espresso (also very good). There are several choices on the menu, and is offered as a set. The carbonara is tremendous! I cannot say that enough! The orrechio and tagliatelle ai ragu is also memorable. The tagliatelle al salmone is amazing, and so is the fried calamari and shrimp. Still, that carbonara is so good!!! I think dining out should be a comfortable experience, like dining at home but entirely more social. I don't think it should cost a lot (unless you're fine dining), and I don't think it should last under thirty minutes (unless you're pregnant). I've eaten at Burro e Sugo twice during my visit to Rome, and I have to say I really enjoy this restaurant. I like how the menu options are set out easily so you can have a sample of every course. The environment is cozy and the staff are really friendly, particularly the proprietor, Christian, who welcomes both Italian and the occasional non-Italian diners with energetic friendliness. Everything is tasty, but I was most impressed by the delicious pomodoro bruschetta, the pappardelle with cinghiale and the homemade limoncello. My brother, an Italian local, said that I wouldn't be able to find anywhere worthwhile on Yelp. He was wrong. I was right. After a visit to St. Paul Outside the Walls - we were hungry - hangry, dare I say. On a whim, I convinced my family to come here. While walking through the neighborhoods, I wondered if I'd made the wrong choice. But then, on the corner, nestled in a residential area, was Burro e Sugo. Not only was it infinitely cheaper than any of the tourist traps, but it was also our very favorite meal. Everything was delicious, the menu was exhaustive, the table wine delicious, and the service fantastic and friendly. Since we got there at "American" dinner time, we were the only people in the restaurant for a bit - but by the time we left, the place was bursting at the seams with locals. My brother admitted afterwards that this was one of the best meals he's had since moving to Italy, and that he would bring his friends back soon. We are study abroad students from the United States and toured Italy during our spring break and I can honestly say that this restaurant was the only one that succeeded in giving us a real Italian experience. My husband ordered the "meat menu" (17 euros) and I ordered the "Fish menu" (21 euros). Both consisted of several courses and we definitely got our moneys worth. Easy bus ride from our apartment in Trastevere. Spent a beautiful evening having dinner on the patio. Best Cacio e Pepe we had during our trip to Italy. I yelped for places around our hotel, the pulitzer, and this place showed up and had great reviews so we decided to walk and check it out. 15 minutes later and we were being seated by a friendly staff. We ordered the 7€ meals and let the head waiter pick out our dishes based on his recco. We had the tuna and penne, tagliatelle with wild boar, razor cams and potatoes, bruschetta and some beers. The main guy went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our meal, even preparing a custom dish for my one year old who loves broccoli -made him spaghetti with broccoli and sausage.
