My wife and I had the privilege of dining at this establishment last week, we were in Rome as part of a pilgrimage tour of France and Italy and were lodging nearby at the Radisson Blu GHR in Parioli. After much walking (and a lot of traffic), we were resigned to dine somewhere close to the hotel, and Ambasciata d'Abruzzo was the perfect discovery. My maternal family is originally from the Abruzzo region (L'Aquila), so I wanted a taste of "home" before returning to the U.S. Given that it was a Tuesday evening, we had the added benefit of a quiet dining room setting to suit our fatigued but soulful mood. We began with the artichoke salad and sauteed clams, both of which were exquisite. The artichokes were perfectly cooked, a welcome variation of the typically marinated version we see in the States. The clams and broth were pure savory comfort on a December evening. For the main and second courses we had the Cacio e Pepe and the Sea Bass Fillet with Lemon. This was a delicious combination, with the pasta perfectly al dente and the fish gently soaked in a bath of butter. We added a side of broccolini, and paired it all with a bottle of 2020 Marina Cvetic Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Riserva (red), as suggested by our exceptional waiter Domenico. A beautiful marriage! We finished with a lovely sorbetto of gelato of lemon and dark chocolate, and two limoncello. Returning to the hotel perfectly satisfied yet not overindulged, we felt compelled to spread the good news to others inclined to dine in Parioli. I've been sending people to this restaurant since I discovered it 20 years ago. I was so excited to return. I made a reservation for New Year's Eve in September and was excited to bring my hisband and son. When we arrived, they had no record of our reservation, but they seated us when I showed them the email confirmation. We were disappointed to discover there was a fixed menu, so we couldn't order off the menu. None of us liked the first course of 3 tartars. The pasta courses were pretty good and the fish course was okay. Desert was tasty, but I feel like we really missed out and if I i had known about the fixed menu, I would have changed the reservation to a different night. Overall, it was just okay. Not my favorite restaurant in Rome, but one of my favorite in the world. I stumbled upon this place 25 years ago because it was near my hotel the service the lemon cello. Are all fantastic. This is too much to write antipasti the Salme. I felt like I was at my uncle's house. My family visited this local, quaint restaurant during our time in Rome. If I could give this place 3.5 stars, I would! I know that service in Europe is more relaxed, but we were definitely a forgotten table. It took over an hour and a half for us to receive our first course. I am usually patient when it comes to restaurants, but this was just way too slow. We arrived at 8pm and it was well past 11pm by the time we received our main course. The staff just seemed very overwhelmed with the amount of people. I do want to point out that when we received our food, it was homemade and delicious. The pastas were perfect, as well as the variety of meats and cheeses we were served. We were able to try some other local shareable plates, as well. We shared a couple bottles of wine, and they have a great selection! I really enjoyed trying wines from the different regions in Italy. This restaurant is absolutely incredible, I would recommend this highly. Everything we had was fantastic! The wine list was extensive, we got a red blend from Umbria that was delicious. They had a special of porcini mushrooms for the day that were incredible. We also got the parma prosciutto with burrata that was truly the best prosciutto I've ever had. We also had the fried artichokes which was delicious. I had my favorite pasta from my whole trip to Italy here- get the spinach ricotta ravioli with sage butter sauce wow! The service was incredible! It's away from all the touristy areas and feels much more local than anywhere else we went! You must eat here when in Rome! read more

Don't miss out on the tiramisu!!! This place was recommended to me by a friend who'd come here pre-COVID. The staff was amazing, very accommodating to me not speaking Italian. Sort of on the pricey side, but so worth it. I got the spinach and ricotta ravioli, it was pretty good. The pasta itself was really good but you could see the oil pooling around the ravioli. My wife and I had dinner here last Wednesday evening. Loved the waiter, but I ordered the carbonara and since I never had the "authentic" dish from Rome I wanted to try it. It came out with the small rigatoni but was not al dente but hard! Since we loved the venue and the waiter we decided to take our sons back the last night of our trip. My thinking was I can always tell the chef to cook the pasta more if I had it again. So the second night on Friday the service was slow, we can deal with that but I ordered lamb on a skewer. It was skimpy, and so tough I couldn't chew it, so I sent it back. The chef should have been ashamed to send this out. Since it was too late for me to order something else my son shared his pasta with me. Now my wife ordered a seafood plate. It was suppose to have shrimp, clams, squid... it was mostly all squid not my wife's favorite. To add to this the couple next to us left furious and let's just say I was equally angry. I eat out at least 100 times a year and I need to add was a chef "in my first life" before I changed careers. I have a lot of empathy for the restaurant folks but not when these were not accidents, then I have no tolerance, period. There are too many excellent restaurants in Rome to take a change going here. read more

This is a wonderful neighborhood eatery. We were looking for a non-touristy restaurant with reasonably priced delicious food and were not disappointed. I went with 3 friends while we were in Rome because it was a short walk from our Bed and Breakfast (Sweet Home Parioli). It was absolutely one of the best meals I had in Rome. We sat at their covered outdoor patio, which has lovely ambiance. I got the caprese salad, a glass of the house red, and cacio e pepe (made with homemade pasta). Everything was delicious. The service went above and beyond. By the end of our meal it was raining outside. The waiters knew we had to walk home, and so offered to have their driver drive us home for free. Which they did. Totally off the tourist path, but close to our hotel (The Lord Byron), the front desk recommended this place, and our travel buddies had already been before our arrival and urged us to go with them again! Our server was the most charming man from the Balkans (or Yugoslavia as he called it). We had a great table outside, and they have a wonderful deal for antipasti to start the meal. To be honest, it's all you need! Its 12 euro/person and they bring out various antipasti, eggplant, arrancini, mozzarella, etc etc. The HIGHLIGHT is the bowl of various salamis that they bring you along with a cutting board and knife! You just chop away to your heart's content! I wanted to take it all home with me, but that's not how it works. Although being pretttyyyy full after the antipasti, we all order entrees. I got the cacio e pepe pasta, because its a Roman specialty, and I can't say Ive ever had it in my life. Turns out, not a huge fan of pepper. Oh well. The other pastas my dining mates had were delicious, and a few others split an amazing freshly grilled whole fish and some grilled shrimp which were to die for! If you can eat unlimited food, this place is for you. Called ironically the "Embassy of Abruzzo", it reminds you that you're in the area where most Embassies are located, only this one is your ticket to local Abruzzese cuisine, mixed with Roman tradition. You cannot eat here and not order the salami basket, there should be a law against it. You're left with a cutting board, a knife, and an inordinate amount of different types of salami. You can eat to your heart's content, although you'll be thirsty for a day to come because of the ridiculous amount of sodium you're ingesting with it. Absolutely worth it Lamb is a classic meat cooked in Abruzzo, so you might want to try the "abbacchio" (roasted lamb) or the lamb costolette, otherwise you can have arrosticini (sheep meet), also a traditional dish from Abruzzo that is very easy to share. I don't think there's anything really standing out, but the whole experience is memorable at this place, from the moment you order appetizers. It's reasonably priced and sometimes you get a 20% discount if reserving via Yelp. Same amount of salame, just 20% less effort. read more

Casual local restaurant that is completely packed by 8:30. The antipasti di casa is a basket of salamis and cheeses that was ordered by half of the tables. Our best eating experience in Rome as far as taste/quality of food & service. We arrived late for an already late dinner reservation (thanks to issues with our rent-a-scooter, which evolved into concierge calling a cab to get us) they were very pleasant and accommodating despite them obviously closing soon and us being last diners in the restaurant. The starter bread was delicious, fresh & warm and the wine choices were plentiful, ranging in prices with good quality. We started with their spinach & ricotta ravioli which was scrumptious. We also shared the roman style artichoke, which was tasty, lots of fresh herbs & great quality olive oil and the sautéed mixed veggies of the season (bc we needed some green after countless pasta & bread stops), they were plentiful & fresh, seasoned well. My fiancé had a veal main which was simple but exquisitely executed. I had the showstopper, the fried calamari & shrimp main. We both raved and raved how these were the most succulent, fresh, juicy (not rubbery/chewy/overcooked at all), expertly seasoned, battered & fried calamari that we'd ever had in life!!! And that was no understatement. Just perfection. And such a great portion size that my fiancé, ever the food critic, was elated to help me finish upon finishing his veal. No recent reviews on this restaurant but based on past reviews thought I would give it a try. It is reasonably close to the Hilton Hampton Inn Rome Claridge, maybe a 15 minute walk. Located on a quiet street in a residential neighborhood it was fairly busy for a Saturday lunch. I was seated promptly by one of the wait staff and within a few minutes my waiter dropped the menu and asked if I would like some water. The wait staff, all men vary in age, my waiter had the disposition of someone just receiving a root canal. I ordered sparkling water, a half carafe of what I believed was house wine, Cacio e Pepe, veal with lemon sauce and a Roman artichoke. The pasta came out relatively quickly and was the best part of the meal. Just enough pepper and cheese, creamy with the nice bite of the home made pasta. The veal and artichoke were not noteworthy. Lunch for 1, 48 euros with mediocre food and service. I would look to have my meal in a restaurant that cares about the customer. read more

I went in for lunch with a friend and had two antipasto buffet, I went back for some more mozzarella and prociutto and they charged Four (4) Buffets, I spoke to the manager, explained the situation and she insisted that every time you go to the buffet you have to pay the whole thing again. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan appetizer and it came baked and sizzling in a small pot. My husband liked his prosciutto and mozzarella. I had lamb and my husband had veal for our main course. My lamb was excellent and the veal was pretty good. I got the fruit plate for dessert and even though It's just fruit but the grapes had tremendous flavor. Silly to mention the fruit plate, I know... Excellent hidden jem north of the Villa Borghese Park. My wife and I were recommended this little nook by our nearby hotel about 2 blocks away. Initially, we found it closed but then realized that all the good restaurants nearby open after 7pm. We came back and were rewarded with a splendid meal. We ordered the antipasto sampler and were overwhelmed with the presentation of meats cheeses and amazing bruschetta that blew us away. We were also served the Italian version of mashed potatoes, which did not disappoint. Our main meal was listed as a first course (ravioli and another authentic Italian pasta dish that was other-worldly good) but honestly, after all of the food and wine, we were plenty satisfied. I'd give 5 stars but the menu wasn't too clear on the antipasto pricing (hint : minimum 2 means that you will pay double of the price listed for 2 diners... 3, you may end up paying triple).
