We chose to just enter the marketplace for $5 which houses food trucks and one beer stand with Bud Light or Stella for $4, or Sky cocktails for $8. VIP is AYCE and AYCD; the marketplace is pay as you go. Originally I thought that VIP or not, everyone was able to try the same food but I realized that VIP had a separate set of vendors. So although the food trucks were tasty, I would spring for VIP next time. You can easily find the food trucks throughout OC at any time without having to pay $5 to get in. In the end the $5 was fine because I understand that they had to staff security, hire the DJ, etc. The general admission marketplace was spacious and we came at an off time so that we didn't have to wait in any lines. After 5:30pm the lines definitely got longer, so arriving at 3:30 was a good call. VIP opened at 5 and I do have to say that it looked super packed, although I can't speak to how things went in there. My friends and I ended up staying until 7 just drinking Stella and listening to the music, so overall it was a nice afternoon and I will be back next year in the VIP.

Most memorable bites were the Queso Fundido Chorizo Brioche Donut (aka cheese donut) from Cafe Calacas and lobster taquitos from Slapfish :D VIP tickets include entry to the exclusive VIP section (which is AYCE) as well as the marketplace where you can buy food or merchandise from different vendors and food trucks. In my honest opinion, regular admission to the marketplace isn't even worth the $5. If you're going to make the effort to come all the way out here for this, I highly suggest paying up for VIP tickets ($50). Go big or go home. Free parking at the structure! We always talked about wanting to get one of her pieces. While browser an art gallery in Laguna, we again were admiring Carolyn's work. The owner told us she lived not far from the shop and called her to see if we could come by. We jumped at the chance to meet Carolyn. That called started the journey of getting a commissioned piece of art and the start of a wonderful friendship. Carolyn and her husband Rick welcomed us to their home that day. We saw dozens of pieces of her work. OMG, she is such a talented artist. Over the course of several hours, we saw different artwork and decided we wanted a custom piece. So, we arranged for her to come to our house and work with us on a commission piece of artwork. The process was so easy. Carolyn saw the design of our house, worked with my wife to create a painting that is the statement piece of our home. We love the final painting. Carolyn was communicating with us during the whole process. We went back to her house to look at the artwork and she made some minor adjustments before she delivered it to us. Carolyn even suggested how we should move some existing artwork throughout our home. We know have two pieces of her artwork in our house. If you are looking to have a personalized piece of art created, we would recommend Carolyn. Not only is she a talented artist, but she is also just a friendly and warm person. My family and I went on this cruise last night, and we had an enjoyable experience! I had some…read moreconcerns based on the negative reviews I had read here, but we didn't have any problem finding a place to park or getting on the bus. There were so many volunteers all around us, that there was never a question about where we needed to go. The bus ride is a very short one on a traditional school bus. I actually enjoyed it! I do agree with some of the reviewers who have mentioned that it would be a more pleasant experience if they would skip the narration during the cruise, and play Christmas carols instead. The narrator on the boat was clearly reading from a script, and she obviously wasn't familiar with it, because she stumbled over her words quite a bit. The lights are beautiful, though, and while it's true that not every single house is decorated, there are many families that have gone to great lengths to create a fantastic display of lights! What I enjoyed the most was being on the water in such a peaceful setting! There weren't very many boats in the harbor, and that added to the relaxing ambiance. I would have given this experience a five-star rating, but I subtracted one star because of the narration. It wasn't too loud, so that was a plus. It's just that the narrative didn't add anything to the experience because it was simply a description of what was plainly obvious for all to see. One reviewer described the crowd as worse than Disneyland, but I'm happy to say that wasn't our experience. There were exactly 2 busloads of people on the boat, so after the cruise, half of us went on one bus, and the other half went on the other one. Both buses were there to meet us immediately after the cruise, so there was minimal waiting involved. Other reviewers have mentioned that it is important to be on the right side of the boat, so that's where we sat. We had a good view, but since the boat goes up one side of the channel and down the other, all of the houses can be seen from either side of the boat. We avoided the back of the boat because of the fumes coming out of the engine. There is a snack bar on board that sells reasonably-priced snacks and drinks. There is also a restroom on the boat. The only annoying thing we experienced had nothing to do with the operators of the cruise. I only mention it so that others may be more aware of the people around them and show consideration. There was a lady standing behind us who talked nonstop and very loudly to her friend about her travels, her vocational accomplishments, her home redecorating experience, etc. throughout the cruise. I couldn't help but wonder if she even realized that she was on a harbor cruise meant for relaxation and enjoyment of the Christmas lights. As her voice mixed with the voice of the narrator, it created an unpleasant cacophony that put a damper on the serenity of the evening. I know I could have moved away from her, but I chose to stay because I had a seat near the railing. I would highly recommend this cruise, mostly because it is an inexpensive way to get away from the hustle bustle of Christmas preparation, and the proceeds benefit a worthy organization that helps school children.
