I arrived 30 minutes prior to my appointment to have vitals taken and prepare for my appointment with Dr.Perlman which began on time. Unfortunately, I have had a terrible experience over the years with the staff/administration of Perlman Clinic. This is in stark contrast to my experience as Stephen Caso's patient. Dr. Caso is excellent. Perlman Clinic, on the other hand, is not. Several years ago, Perlman Clinic referred me to an out-of-network specialist and the referral was rejected by my insurance. It took them weeks to fix this. Next, Perlman Clinic told LabCorp that I had Medicare even though I was 30 years old at the time. This resulted in my actual insurance company denying coverage for the bloodwork and LabCorp insisting on cash payment. Today was the last straw. I booked an Annual appointment for this morning over a month ago. I confirmed the appointment twice this week. 30 minutes before the appointment, I received a message stating that insurance would not cover the Annual appointment because it was not yet December 2025. This was never told to me when I booked the appointment, during the confirmation text messages, or at anytime before I was literally in the car on the way to the appointment. I immediately called Perlman Clinic, explained the insanity of only letting me know there was an insurance issue the morning of the appointment, and asked them to figure out a way for me to keep the appointment. The person I spoke with told me she would speak with a supervisor right away. She kept me on hold for 30 minutes. I eventually hung up. These are not isolated events. Perlman Clinic is a disorganized mess. I'm sure that I will receive a bill for cancelling this morning's appointment at the last minute; that would be par for the course with Perlman Clinic. While I love Dr. Caso, I no longer feel comfortable staying with Perlman Clinic. The company is so administratively deficient that I think it is only a matter of time before this disorganization affects my medical care. One day, I might need a test or something else done urgently and sent to the correct lab, etc. Given their history, I can't trust Perlman Clinic. read more

My PCP at Perlman referred me for an MRI that I scheduled and took a half day of work to attend. When I arrived, I was informed that the MRI was not authorized. I am now into my second week of trying to get clarity from Perlman, with no success. They have ignored messages and phone calls. They appear to be unconcerned with patient wellness with very little respect for patient time or care. read more

My annual exam went smoothly. I was greeted pleasantly by a receptionist and given paperwork to complete. Then a very nice nurse led me to a room and took my vitals and updated my chart. Physician's Assistant Rachel Bird was truly a blessing to my husband and me today. It has been very difficult to find adequate care for a medical problem my husband has been dealing with recently. Today he had an appointment with Rachel Bird at the La Jolla office, and for the first time in a long while we felt like we had found someone who genuinely listened. She took the time to carefully hear our concerns, asked thoughtful and relevant questions, and went above and beyond the level of care we've received from any doctor or health care provider in quite some time. Her approach restored our hope that there are still providers who truly listen and care about their patients. What impressed us most was her humility and dedication to getting things right. Unlike another doctor we saw at the Santee location, she didn't act like she knew everything. Instead, she was willing to double-check information to ensure she was giving the best possible advice. They do not protect your medical privacy. They sent all my medical information to a listed emergency contact through email and mail, and continued to send updates after I removed this contact so that only my information was there. Not sharing my medical info is extremely important, so I will never be going to Perlman Clinic again. read more
