Dr Levinson was my inpatient psychiatrist (well, one of them) at Mills. Unlike most other…read moreinvoluntary patients, I very much wanted to be in a hospital because I desperately needed the help - help that I unfortunately didn't get until another hospitalization elsewhere. Dr Levinson made such reckless decisions in my care that he almost got me killed. Dr Levinson had decided on a diagnosis for me before he ever met me. Our first conversation was brief and just him collecting information on my treatment history. He insisted I that I *needed* specific meds that I had tried and done poorly on in the past. Then he didn't see me for a week, came back and told me I'd be discharged the next day - a decision he had reached, again, without speaking to me. Me as well as three consecutive shifts of nurses voiced concerns over the discharge order. (While I was packing to leave, my nurse was literally pleading with his supervisor to not let me walk out the door.) I was sent home without a discharge plan. Right before a long holiday weekend. While acutely suicidal. I credit interventions by my nurses and two other patients on my last night there with keeping me alive that day. I eventually got the help I needed at another hospital, where the treatment team arrived at a different diagnosis and spent a month helping me stabilize before discharging me to a lower level of care.

Dr Vanna Sutherland provided me with psychiatric care for depression more than two years. I feel…read morevery fortunate to have connected with her when my previous doctor contracted with another practice and I had to find a new doctor. I felt extremely supported by Dr. Sutherland. I found her methods to be very comprehensive and her clinical knowledge both deep and up to date. The combination of medication management and therapy was consistently delivered with professionalism and clear concern for my overall well being. The care I received gave me a greater sense of security and confidence in managing my depression. When I moved to another state earlier this year during the pandemic, she took measures to bridge my care and eliminate the urgency and stress of finding a provider in my new location. I have all confidence in Dr. Sutherland.

This can be weird to say, but in my experience with psychiatrists, I find that interactions can be dry and almost robotic on their part. Since my first contact, she was friendly and personable. I found that she was timely in responding to my voicemail and spent the appropriate amount of time to answer any questions I had in session. She wasn't pushy about medication or anything, which I appreciated. Lastly, I trusted her clinical judgment. Not only did she give helpful advice and information, she was able to coordinate with other health care providers as a care team. The only reason why I rated her a 4 was because she has fairly limited flexibility in scheduling.

His flexibility and getting back to me quickly is always a plus too, I know I can depend on a response. Through my diagnosis's from other physicians it never felt right with their recommendation. So I always wanted a second opinion, his patience and thoughtfulness to try different medications if I just didn't feel right made all the difference. Basically he listened to my needs and was open to my suggestion and feedback. He also made me feel like there was nothing wrong with me with his sharing of articles supporting my diagnosis "that he had just read". I appreciate so much all he has done thus far for me and my mental health. I look forward to working with him for years to come as needed of course.

He left me addicted to Xanax, gave me no referrals to other psychiatrists, and told me that he was trying to 'scale down" his practice -- yet his voicemail says he is accepting new patients. Such an uncaring LIAR! Bottom line, this man is incompetent, a liar, a cruel person and simply a drug peddler. He doesn't care about you. Stay away from this quack! p.s. The new psychiatrist I finally found got me off of Xanax immediately with zero withdrawal symptoms.
