I see another fantastic psychiatrist and unfortunately Mark was the doctor on call while I was in a very fragile mental state. Without going into my personal medical issues, Mark answered the phone, and before I could get a word out, told me what I'm feeling is not worth his time and to stop wasting it, he told me to call 911 if I wanted help and didn't let me get a more than a few words in before hanging up. I've never been so disgusted by the behavior of an MD and would avoid this man at all costs. He does not deserve a medical license, especially in psychiatry, where ones' focus is in mental health. I have just left the care of Dr. Perlsweig after over a decade of seeing him periodically for management of medication for depression. I finally got tired of being talked to and not talked with. I am a highly intelligent woman with many years of working in the health care field. I simply got tired of my own ideas being dismissed in regards to what was the best plan of action for me. I have spent the past 2 weeks withdrawing off a cocktail mix of medications; which it turns out where working against each other and only serving to make me feel worse. After bringing our child to be screened for ADD we were disappointed that the only treatment he mentioned was medication, apparently other alternatives were ineffective. After speaking to several mothers, doctors, & professionals in this area there are certainly other alternatives to try 1st before drugs. The good thing was he didn't force the meds on us and only prescribed a RX when we felt we were ready. As far as his tardy policy for appts, it was ironic that for one of our appts he was 7 mins late arriving w/ starbucks in hand. Don't believe everything you read, if I had I would not have gone in and would not be in the great place I am now. Working with Dr. P has challenged my internal assumptions and helped solve puzzles that I have struggled with for decades. As a result I am functioning at a level I never knew I was capable of. Doc has helped me tremendously. I've been to several doctors, and none even got close to the diagnoses Dr. P gave. Within a few sessions he made his first diagnosis and prescription. I have to admit, I was skeptical. I never would have guessed that diagnosis would apply to me or that the medicine he prescribed would be right/appropriate for me. I took a leap of faith and followed his directions. Within a week, everything changed. I had no idea how unnecessarily difficult every little task had been. Suddenly, I wasn't arguing with myself every time I wanted to get up in the morning. It was easier to clean my room and go to the gym and not eat that extra piece of cake. I didn't even know I was struggling in a way other people weren't because I just assumed I was normal and everyone had to fight tooth and nail to force themselves to do anything. But Doc figured out something that nobody else could, and prescribed a medication that I never would have thought could help me, and it suddenly flipped a switch that made life so much easier. But it didn't stop there. Once Doc figured that out, he kept going. After a couple more months he made another diagnosis, and prescribed another drug. I don't even know where to start... first of all, my resting heartbeat dropped from about 90 down to around 60 because apparently I was living in a state on constant anxiety. My drive and focus and confidence soared. I got promoted at work, started organizing activities with friends, lost about 50 lbs, and now I can't wait to wake up in the morning. Doc continues to see me. I doubt my medication will change for the foreseeable future, so instead we focus on attitudes and skills to keep the progress flowing. Doc is a great listener, his anecdotes are funny and relevant, and I find his advice invaluable. Getting to see him is like an oasis of calm and clarity. Don't misunderstand, I was practically a "normal" functioning person before I started seeing Dr P. He didn't fix some obvious problem that was destroying my life; he found subtle problems and is turning me into the best me I can possibly be. I wish I had found him 20 years ago. read more

I met Dr. Perlsweig 12 years ago to consult him about my eldest daughter's mental illness. He diagnosed the proper illness and was so successful treating her that she was able to move on and she will be starting now with her Ph.D.. After that, he met my second daughter and treated her mental illness with such a success that she is completing her Masters in Biochemistry and continue with a Ph.D. My third daughter was also treated by him and he was the first Psychiatrist that was able to reach her because she suffered with Selective Mutism. She completed her high school. Dr. Perlsweig treated each of my children individually and one at a time. I needed help, resources, and psychotherapy and he was able to accommodate me by listening, treatment, and referrals. He is the best Psychiatrist that I have ever met. He puts his whole heart to help each patient to succeed. He is a wonderful person. I recommend him highly. Dr. Perlsweig treats children, adolescent, and adults with Asperger's Syndrome, Bipolar I and II, Major Depressive Disorder, OCD, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Panic Attacks, and more. He is my Hero. He has great insight and understanding of the patient's feelings, desires and troubles. I took my son in to see Dr. Perlsweig. The first few visits went okay and then I was emailing him, which he was always responsive to. But then he emailed that he no longer wanted to see my son. I tried to get him to explain why and he NEVER returned my emails. I found his behavior extremely unprofessional and would highly suggest looking else where. read more

I found him to be a very irresponsible doctor, although he seems to think quite highly of himself. His so called, "approach" seemed odd to me & then he later admitted that it was not the proper approach given the issue. His sarcasm & condescending attitude and commentaries, I found to be, highly inappropriate. And I agree with other reviewers that he is in for the money. You will be charged for an hour session even if you spend just a few minutes picking up a prescription - seriously? His demeanor is horrific especially given the line of work he's in, not to mention that he clearly doesn't prepare for his appointments. If I could give no stars I would have! Run don't walk from this guy. Out for the money. To diagnose my daughter, he merely asked a few questions and showed me a graph! A moron could have asked those questions and made the stupid graph. Is this what psychology is? Do you need a medical degree for this? I felt totally ripped off. I wanted SOOO much more than this. Then, when I told him that I didn't want to go to him anymore, he charged me 100.00 for our last conversation of 15 minutes even though no psychothereapy occurred. I have been going to Dr. P for the last 10 years and I cannot express how delighted I am with his knowledge and style. I'm a professional in my mid forties and have really enjoyed my experience with him. Dr P. is approachable, compassionate, and an excellent listener. I have truly benefited from his therapy and medication management (when needed). Dr. P. has lots of experience and has never steered me wrong. He and I have had long serious talks as well as laughter and fun. Love this guy! I started seeing Dr. Perlsweig in 2007, after having been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. My primary doctor (who is the best primary I've ever had) referred me to him and told me that many of his colleagues described him as, "the psychiatrist's psychiatrist." I was very afraid of myself at that time and very confused by the manic episode I had experienced. His down-to-earth manner put me at ease right away. I felt very comfortable talking with him openly right from the start. I've come a long way since starting with Dr Perlsweig. I've let go of a lot of long-standing guilt largely because of his light-hearted matter-of-fact responses to what I had previously thought was a deplorable issue or event. I've learned new ways to respond to issues that used to really bother me and make me feel flustered and overly emotional. He found exactly the right medicine and dosage for me very quickly (which I've heard can be quite a long battle for some people.) I've been doing exceptionally well and have been on the same medicine ever since. Dr. P is naturally straightforward and kind. I've never felt judged by him or "labeled." I've gained a lot of confidence in myself under his care, which is something I was initially afraid I might not be able to achieve. I highly recommend you give him a try. read more

If there were an option to vote no stars I would. Please do NOT waste your time on this guy. I went to see him for 5 visits regarding my 6 year old daughter and wasted my valuable time. I honestly thought he would work out well for my little girl, but unfortunately it didn't happen. First of all, during the 5th visit he talked down to me and made me feel like an idiot. I brought my daughter's School Behavior Therapist along with me hoping we could work together as a team and come up with a plan. Instead he offered nothing positive. He was very insensitive, cold, narcissistic, and he embarrassed me in front of the behavior therapist stating I owed him a copayment because my card got declined. He said this immediately after he told me some bad news about my child's supposed diagnosis and I was still crying. All he seemed to care about was getting the copay even though my insurance already pays him for his services. Thank goodness a witness was there to see what happened and agrees that this guy was totally unprofessional and offered no direction whatsoever. I told him he'll get his copayment and we will no longer see him. I hope that everyone who sees this will take my advice. THIS GUY is NUTS. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! read more

He comes off very abrasive and uncompassionate, which shocked me considering the fact that he works with children most of the time. The overall feeling I got from him is his primary focus is money, and patient care is secondary. If you just want a doctor to see on occasion to refill a prescription, or something else minor, that would be about the only thing I would recommend him for. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Perlsweig for over 2 years. I have seen many therapists in my life, and Dr. Perlsweig is the first Therapist that has helped me with talk therapy. I am 50ish and have had many therapists in my life. Most therapists prescribe medicine and send you on your way. I would not have thought a year ago that I would feel like living but, working with Dr. Perlsweig has helped me begin to overcome and let go of a lifetime struggle of being traumatized as a teenage girl. If you are looking for a Dr. who will listen and encourage you and talk to you like a friend, you should try therapy with Dr. Perlsweig.
