My dog and I followed Dr. Julie to Pet Care Center Chalmette (PCCC) after the downtown location closed and it soon became a favorite for both of us! This is a satellite location open Mon - Sat, for after-hours emergencies Pet Care Center's Metairie location at (504) 887-2999 is open 24/7, but during operating hours this is by far the best in the New Orleans and surrounding areas, here's why: Dr. Julie is extremely knowledgeable and direct; she sincerely cares about each animal as if they were her own. I appreciate that she explains everything thoroughly before and after your pet's exam, procedure, treatment, etc. Wayne, Mikala, Melissa, and resident feline staffer Minnie make the office a family environment and your pet feel totally at home. My dog actually gets excited when we arrive and barrels through the door. Obviously not every vet visit is a happy one; they are also comforting and extremely compassionate during more somber pet care, which is so important during difficult times. PCCC also offers boarding and doggy day camp at competitive prices. Plus with their large fenced in yard, you'll pick up a happily exhausted pup! I had a great experience here! I just recently got a new kitten who needed to come in to complete his vaccination and have an initial checkup. The receptionist was very friendly and got me an appointment the very next day without requiring a deposit. I mention this because I had just previously called a vet down the street that had way less availability and required a credit card to be put on file before the appointment in case I cancelled the appointment. That did not sit well with me so I called here instead. The tech and vet were both wonderful with him. Something I really liked was that the tech discussed all my options before the vet came in and she gave me a low and high estimate. The estimate was broken down so that you could see the cost of everything and she discussed with me the pros and cons of all the options. I ended up going with the higher amount (which was another vaccine meant more for outside cats because there is always a chance of him getting out and I also opted to have him tested for FIV because I would rather know. They did not try to push anything on me at all. The vet I saw was Dr Hebert. She was very friendly and seemed thorough. Although it will take longer to form a true opinion on the care here she made a very good first impression. We have to come back for another round of vaccines in a few weeks so I will update then if anything else needs to be said. The ONLY bad thing I can say about this experience is that I received a text later from a company called Trupanion trying to sell me pet insurance. The first came on Oct 26 at 1108, the second only a few hours later at 1649 and then a third the next day at 1109. At this point i messaged "STOP" back to the company and was unsubscribed. I have not received any subsequent calls or texts from them or any other marketing company. Maybe this is a partnering company, i have no idea if it is bad or good. I just don't personally believe insurance is a good deal for the consumer/patient in most cases. read more

My dog was injured at this facility and I was lied to about it. They told me he had happy tail, but this looked more like they cut him on purpose and charged me for it. I will never send my dog here ever again! They are lucky I don't sue! read more

So I usually don't write reviews but, in this case I felt like it was a must since I really am grateful for this vet clinic in Chalmette. They are one of the very few that made me feel like they actually cared about helping my dog and didn't look for ways to run up the bill. I actually felt like they helped me to keep the price as minimum as possible for me. Not many like them exist and they helped us in many ways. My dog was on a health plan with Banfield but since losing my job prior to CO VID and then losing my 2nd pt job I had to cancel that plan. I have since inherited my mothers dog so having 2 has put a financial strain but want to make sure they are healthy. I brought them to PCCC and Dr. Julie was very understanding and kind with my situation. I love this place! They provide such amazing care for my pets. The entire staff has treated my babies as their own. My dogs go crazy to see Wayne and Dr. Julie. I love that Dr. Julie will sit on the floor and let my dogs crawl all over and lick her. It shows that her heart is in this business for the right reasons. My dogs recently started daycare there 5 days a week. On the weekends both dogs stand at the door crying to go to Pet Care Center Chalmette for daycare. To me, that shows they are being well cared for and treated well. I have referred several people here and they all have has wonderful experiences. Everyone here is always welcoming, caring, and extremely friendly. I've had 2 emergencies with my cat who has some health issues and both times, Pet Care was very accommodating. I love that PCC opens early and closes later.The hours are convenient. That is actually how I learned about Pet Care when my regular vet was closed and I had an emergency one evening with my cat when I got home from work. I began calling different places and talked to Wayne who said, "We are getting ready to close, but we'll wait for you." Had I waited until the next morning to go to my regular vet, my cat would have died. He was treated and after a few days was back to normal. About a year later, my cat began having similar symptoms so I assumed it was an issue with his kidneys as it had been in the past. Dr. Julie acted quickly and took excellent care of him. I appreciate the way staff at PCC communicates with each other to relay information to the pet owners. My cat had to be transported to the emergency clinic in Kenner because he needed 24 hour care and everyone I talked to was always on the "same page." My cat was brought back to me in Chalmette by Dr. Julie so I didn't have to go get him from there. Thankfully he is doing well now and I have all the information needed to make a smart decision if ever the issue arises again. I feel comfortable asking questions because I know I will get the answers I need. My cat is on a special diet, so I visit PCC at least 1 a month to get his food. Dr. Julie makes sure his food is there for me. Wayne and Lee Anne are always friendly and helpful. It shows when people like their jobs and everyone here does! Each time I go to PCC, I'm greeted by name and asked, "How's Little Bit?" It's a friendly environment where your pets will be loved and receive the best care! There are several Vets in St. Bernard Parish, but I would recommend giving this one a try before you go any where else. You'll be happy you did! read more

If you want to go to a vet that will love and care for your animals, this is the place!! We were sad to see Dr. Amelie go, but Dr. Wendi has been great. The vet tech there, Wayne, is awesome. Anytime we need anything for our dogs he is there to solve the problem. He has been amazing since they opened! Always professional, kind, and compassionate. I am truly grateful to have Wayne at our clinic and the amount of love he has shown my dog Shadow has been exceptional. All employees at Pet Care Centers are awesome, but Wayne rocks! read more

Not often can you say i really love my Vet. My wife and i like to rescue boxers, and so far all have had some type of odd medical condition. I have been all over going to many different Vets looking for the best treatment while trying to keep it affordable. This location has been the best of them all. The Vet Dr Julie is super nice, and a die hard animal lover. When she greets your furry child, she gets down to their level. Never seen another vet drop to the floor to get one on one, treating them as if they were her own beloved furry child. The office workers are just as awesome, as you never feel rushed or just a patient. They usually help me bring my dual boxers to my van since they can be a handful. Recently they started having Doggy Daycare, at first i was like What the heck. Since i work long days i couldn't let my kids locked up all day, nor could i leave them out to destroy my house from energetic playing. It is worth every penny, i drop them off on my way to work, the vet tech Wayne takes them and plays with them all throughout the day. He posts pictures and videos so I can see how my hyper Boxers are doing. When I pick them up they are super happy to see me, yet calm from exhausting all of their extra energy. On the weekends my boxers wine in the morning because i won't take them to Daycare, never have i seen dogs that want to go to the vet. They are awesome with cats too, around my house i have a couple of feral cats. My wife is getting close to the crazy cat lady, but that is another review. Recently, one of the feral cats got into some kind of fight, leaving a large wound on its shoulder. They gave me a cat box to get him to them, they took great care of him, they fixed the wound and nursed him back to normal. They only charged what they had to keep it affordable. This Vet has stayed late many times, helping with other animals we find on the streets, or from helping our neighbor's pets with emergency repairs. I could go on and on about how awesome this place is, but the truth is you just need to go there and your furry child will let you know how much they like it there. From my first phone call to set up an emergency appointment, throughout my appointment with Dr. Julie Wheeler and the help I received from the entire Staff the whole time I was there and upon leaving. I thank you all, Dr. Wheeler, assistant Mekala (not sure spelling), Samantha and Wayne. They all responded to my situation in a caring, compassionate and professional way. They actually cared about my worries. Do not hesitate to visit this office. You will be welcomed, calmed down and spoken to in layman's language so that you can understand your pet's problem. The Doctors and staff here are pretty awesome. My dog suffers from skin allergies and the meds she was on went on back order. Wayne, one of Dr. Wendy's assistants offered up half of his own supply of allergy meds that he had for his dog that has the same issues. You can't get better care than that, you really can't. Unfortunately, the meds are still on back order and now we're both out of the allergy meds, but I'll recommend these guys to anyone and everyone that wants to know where to get good veterinary care for their animals.
