Little Claudette was in a dog fight. :( The person responsibile asked if I would use their veterinarian. Since, I am familiar with this hospital I agreed. I called first thing the next morning and Donna scheduled me right away. While there Donna was so helpful and the receptionists made sure I was greeted. Our technician, Jennifer was very nice and handled Claudette very well. (Claudette is a scardy dog when it comes to the vet. The moment she realized what was up, she tried to leave!) Dr. Allen was great too and very patient. Within 30 minutes, we were finished! Happily Claudette is fine. She has some medications and her mother is now at ease. However, she may have a new fashion assessory, a cone. The hospital is clean and inviting. Also the exam rooms are very well lit and not intimidating. What I really love is that the exam table is also the scale!!! The scale lifts from the floor! Needless to say, I was very impressed as I had not been there since before Katrina. not even 1 star my cat was given a rabies shot without explaining to us the possible side effects for her age. and once after receiving the rabies shot she slowly started to decline we had taken her back and they didn't even do a assessment of her ("no examination") they wanted to do blood work and x-rays which would have cost more money than what we had already spent. they suggested euthanasia! we ended up taking her too another veterinarian they did a full examination as well as blood work and x-rays for an extremely affordable amount! they had given us iv fluids as well as an appetite stimulant and told us if we needed more don't hesitate to come back! that was 2 days ago as of right now she's eating drinking and using the bathroom! the name of this veterinarian is harahan veterinarian pets and services to whom i would recommend everyone i know to go to if you love your pets. my cat is 16 years old and doing wonderfully since she received the excellent care from harahan veterinarian hospital. i would like to thank them for their excellent personal care and services. . read more

These people are despicable! My husband and I went in for a visit for our cat, and we overheard an older staff woman behind the counter, through the paper-thin walls, say, "Why would they bring their cat in for the visit if they didn't have the money for the medicine?!" The staff member she was speaking to then told her, "Shh, keep your voice down." And she said (and I quote), "No, I don't care, let them hear me!" We called and asked about the costs before we decided to make the appointment because we were concerned. It was during the holiday season, and we were running low on money, and vet visits can be extremely expensive, to which the receptionist on the phone sympathized with us, saying that they understood. Once we were there, we instantly regretted making the appointment with them. From our arrival to our departure, the discrimination against us increased drastically, to the point that it became exceedingly tough to endure. All of the staff members were stuck-up and rude, showing no consideration for the impoverished family whatsoever. You could actually feel the dirty looks and negative energy from the DVM when he walked into the room, which was completely uncalled for, unpleasant, and unprofessional. To address the staff's nasty comments, the whole reason we called the vet in the first place was because doing Something is better than doing Nothing for our pet, and we were very well aware that we would have to pay for medicine, and were capable and willing to do so. My friend, a few years back, who used to work there, told me that she was eventually fired from St. Bernard Veterinary Hospital because she found out that one of the male vets were abusing the animals in the back. She went public and blasted them on Facebook, and they were in some hot water for a while. Some of you might actually know who l'm talking about or have even heard about this. Mind you: These are also the same people who also took my expensive $1,500 cat about five years ago when we brought him in to be neutered - that wasn't a stray, feral, or community cat - and clipped his ear without our permission! I trusted them, and they're lucky that I didn't sue them because it was done with intention. Don't give these people, who are the most undeserving, your money. My experience and the experience of others outweigh their "experience" altogether, and my experience, as well as the experiences of others corroborate the facts. I have taken each of my two dogs there since the first day I got each one. They've helped keep my Daphne strong even during some difficult times for her going on 16 years and I'm looking forward to my latest rescue lasting as long if not longer. Normally I see Dr. Newbill but would also be happy with the other doctors. The staff is responsible, attentive and friendly. This is an excellent doggie (and cats too) care center. read more

I had asked this vet numerous times about my dogs couching. Each time, it was nothing to be concerned about just happens in small dogs. But if it bothers me, then he could have medication. Luckily, that just didn't sound correct to me. I went to another vet. My boy has a collapsing trachea and requires surgery. He had a bronchial scope to confirm the diagnosis. He would have died if I stayed with St. Bernards Vet Clinic. When I told St Bernards what was wrong with him, their response was that they didn't have the advanced equipment which was at the other veterinary hospital. On top of all of this, they refused to confirm a prescription they wrote when the pharmacy called. So I had to mail his prescription which took an extra week. Luckily he wasn't out of his flea medication so we could wait. But refusing to confirm a prescription just so I'd have to pay more to buy it from them is extremely crappy. I can't recommend this vet enough. They are the only vet in the area that I have found that does non-credit payment plans. I adopted a dog who needed "2-4" teeth pulled and a cleaning, and they quoted me half what i have heard of others paying for similar service for small dogs. Then she ended up having 18 teeth pulled, and they didn't charge me any more than quoted. THEN, I was able to pay in three installments. How amazing is that? All three vets and all of the staff are wonderful and sweet. read more

I was recommended to the St. Bernard Vet Hospital by a few people, and they did not disappoint. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and both Dr. Amster and Dr. Hood are great. They are straight forward, helpful, and reasonably priced. You can tell the staff really cares about the well-being of the animals, and they make you feel welcome on every visit. I have called them a couple of times needing to bring my dog in immediately, and they were able to accommodate me with no problem. I take both of my dogs here, and I would definitely recommend them to everyone! read more

We were referred to SBVH by a neighbor after we'd been customers of Carrollton Vet for 10 years. There was an unfortunate experience at CV that led us here and I couldn't be more happier. I boarded my dog, Skye, for about 5 days during the summer and my sweet girl was taken good care of. They even gave her her yearly shots and kept me informed of her daily. She looked better than she did when I dropped her off...lol. Our most recent visit was an unexpected one. Skye has always been a costly dog with skin allergies, problems with ear infections, and thunder anxiety. About a week ago, we washed her with her prescription shampoo and her allergies got the best of her so bad that she ruptured a blood vessel in her ear from shaking. It doubled in size in the last 3 days so I called and for an appointment the same day. We were late for our appointment and they did not trip when I called to late them know there was traffic. Dr. Hood gave me a variety of treatment options and told me things we could try to minimize the possibility of surgery. Last but not least, Skye is a pitbull. She is extremely people friendly, but sometines dog aggressive. She loves attention and putting a smile on peoples face by being "too happy!" She generally does well around other animals, as we've had a cat and other dogs we fostered over the years. Sometimes she has to be thee top dog and for this I say she is unpredictable. SBVH is awesome...they treat her like a pet and not like the breed of dog she is. This is appreciated. Especially because pitbulls get a bad rap. Any animal or pet can be aggressive and deserve a fair chance. This is a place that really cares of the well being of pets and are not in it just for the money. Highly recommended. We've taken our furbabies here since moving here in 2014. Exceptional can not describe these people. The entire staff is amazing...especially in an emergency. On 12/23/16, one of my dogs suffered a horrific injury to one of his legs. (We think he tangled with a raccoon) I texted a photo to a friend who works as a vet tech elsewhere to get his opinion before heading to ER vet, and he said $2000 in the door, possible amputation. (At a glance and that was a quick guess). I figured ER vet would be double. It was late afternoon on a day my regular vet (SBVH) closes early. I called them anyway. Being two days before Christmas, they were actually closed and in the middle of the office holiday party. I explained the severity of the injury and the friend's guess and was told to bring him in immediately. We got there fast and carried my bloody dog through the lobby and straight into surgery. Doctors Hood and Newbill left their own holiday party and spent three hours piecing the skin on my dog's paw back together. They then had someone check in on him overnight and took extreme care with him through the entire healing process...which took WEEKS. His paw completely healed, NO amputation! And no infection! The final icing on the cake was the final bill after almost 2 months of constant, daily vet care and including meds...under $1000. Literally blew my mind how amazing the entire experience was and the level that this staff rises to just to help my dogs has me referring every pet owner to St. Bernard Veterinary Hospital. read more

I brought my cat in yesterday for her annual vaccinations. Everything was very clean, the staff was very friendly and efficient and knew what they were doing. I was called back promptly at 2:15, my exact appointment time, and the exam and shots took less than 5 min. I did not feel rushed though - the doctor was very friendly and asked if I had any questions or concerns. I did not, and he said she looked very healthy. Today however I noticed that my kitty is not feeling well. I called them to see if this was normal and the woman I spoke with said she didn't work yesterday so she went to the trouble of getting my file and looking it over even though I told her what I came in for. She said it is common for cats to not feel well after their shots but gave me some warning signs to look out for and told me that regardless I should feel free to bring her in and they would look at her just to make sure, free of charge. Needless to say, I am very happy overall with my experience there. read more
