Came in with an emergency snake bite and imidietly gave the dog steroids eith wich is a red light counter indication becuas i t makes helaing slow down and causes ukcerations inside the animal as per every other snake bite expert out there then tri3d to feed me a lie and calm me down assuming im that ignorant. Sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics which is also a counter indication. Sarah, who is also Dr, says i am not qualified to diagnose my dog. really? I'm a dog owner. all my life. i am the one who spends time with my dog. I literally just had the worst and most traumatizing experience. First off I'm here for training and in the middle of transferring to Virginia. We found this place to watch our two babies. One of our dogs is on prescribed food and the other is just on regular food. We told them that if either of our dogs ran out of food to just give us a call and we'd bring more. My husband even stopped by to check on them and nothing was stated. Well needless to say they fed my puppy my older dog's prescribed food. I was highly upset. The receptionist stated that it wouldn't harm the dog. To top it off when they brought my older dog in he was bleeding heavily from the nail cutting they did. They took him to the back and brought him back and he was still bleeding heavily. Then they took him to the back again and claimed he was good, once I put him in the car there was more blood. After having to take my cat to the MSAH emergency room for urinary issues on May third, I bought him to Primary Veterinary Care for a follow up five days later. I informed the tech that he had only been given five days worth of antibiotics and sent in a form from the MSAH describing the care he was given in the emergency room and the type of medicine and quantity of medicine they had given him. They sent him home without any medication. Not knowing any better, I didn't question it. When his conditioned worsened a few days later (he began urinating blood), I called them and they informed me he should have been on antibiotics for at least two weeks. I cannot begin to describe how incredibly frustrating it was for them to tell me that after they had sent him home without any even though they where well informed he had only been given five days worth during his visit. That being said, we have taken our animals here before and they have received wonderful care. And I wish I could say that the experience I just described was the extend of their negligence in regards to this issue, but I can't write that. After finally getting a urine sample from my cat, after trying on two different occasions and failing to, they sent it off for a urine culture on June fifteenth. They informed me they expected the results back on Friday. They did not come in on Friday, which is neither here nor there. They did received the result back on this past Monday morning. I know this, not because they called to let me know what the analysis was or that they had even gotten the results back but because we had to reach out to them in the afternoon. Twice. Each time we where told they would call us back. They did not. When I woke up this morning to my cat howling in pain, I called them. They said they would call me back. Sick of their negligence, I took him back to MSAH. He is now getting the care Primary Vet neglected to give him. As of three thirty this afternoon, MSAH has still not received the results from them despite reaching out to them twice and myself calling them to tell them to send the results there. Other instances of their negligence includes bringing me out the wrong cat in one instance and not being able to find his records during another. As I said perviously, our animals have received wonderful care here before. And the front desk staff is amazing. Unfortunately, their competence has deteriorated to the point where it's dangerous for the well being of our animals. read more

I brought my 2 dogs in to PV when I noticed one of them having issues with his mouth. My aunt has gone to this vet for years and recommended it right away. She is very particular about her animals maintenance and medical care, so I trusted that PV would be a good fit. I was pleasantly surprised when I called and found out we could do a walk-in whenever we had time. I headed over immediately and was struck by how friendly and kind the staff were. They wanted to know all about me and my pups-it felt like a very personal experience, which is rare. We were seen very quickly by Dr. Sarah, who immediately found the source of my dogs discomfort-a bad tooth. She also found a number of other ailments with both dogs that I was unaware of. I'm usually wary when vets advise testing, but I felt that all of her recommendations were pointed and necessary for the maintenance of these dogs. And, I never felt pressured, which is the way I've felt at most vets offices. They also follow-up promptly with phone calls. We haven't booked our extraction yet, but the cost seems very reasonable, and I trust them. Definitely recommend Primary Vet Care to anyone looking for a regular vet or a walk-in. read more

Took my dog here Friday for a bath and brush out. Dropped him at 7:30am. Called at 11 and was told he wouldn't be ready until 4pm. That seemed excessive but the reviews were glowing. We picked him up at 4 and he didn't greet us. He didn't wag or raise his tail until Saturday night. We noticed a large brown chunk of something burrowed deep in the underside of his bushy husky tail. We bathed him Sunday to see what it was, unsure if it was blood or poo. It was blood. It looked like a massive gash in his tail and our washing him dissolved the scab. We took him to our vet at Westside Monday morning. They had to shave a massive 8x3 section of his tail because they said there was a severe bacterial infection that was spreading and it looked to be caused by deep lacerations from a wire brush. I'm not interested in compensation. I just want accountability. Animals cannot speak for themselves and this level of blatant abuse is disgusting and appalling. Please take your animals elsewhere. read more

I've been here a couple of times in the past few years and though Dr. Young and staff appear nice, I can't say the same about their knowledge in advanced veterinary care. Most of the dogs I've raised in the past have never had any serious health issues, but one in particular was having accidents so PVC recommended a change in the type of food my dog was being fed so he could urinate more and basically clean out his system. They also said he would have to eat this food for the rest of his life? After a few months, I noticed my dog become more and more allergic to the new food so they recommend another change in his food PLUS allergy meds which he also needs to take for the rest of his life. Two years, one blood test, two urinalysis, at least 4 additional visits, and $800+ spent in new dog food and vet bills later, my dog is still having accidents and allergies so I decided to bring him to another vet for a 2nd opinion. According to this new vet and another urinalysis test, my dog has signs of a urinary tract infection which should have been caught through the blood test. The new vet also thinks the advice PVC gave me about the dog food and allergies did not make any sense. Overall, if you want to bring your pets in for a basic visit and annual shots, this place will do. But if you're really serious about your pet's health or you feel you are getting the run around about your pet's health and need a 2nd opinion, I highly recommend going elsewhere to avoid a misdiagnosis and unnecessary additional vet bills. NOTE: a few reviewers have commented on the reasonable costs, but it's actually not as reasonable as one would think. Just the office visit itself will set you back at least $42...back in 2009 it was $29. Also, if they ask you if you want them to trim your dog's nails, say no because that will set you back another $15 and we all know how easy it is to trim a dog's nails. UPDATE: I do not know if this is the norm, appropriate or even ethical for that matter, but what's up with medical professionals checking out a client's social media page after they write a review on Yelp? Social media is never private so it works both ways you know. read more

The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and pretty much useless when it came to answering my questions regarding my pet that was being boarded there. Our Welsh Corgi Addie developed an acute, life threatening uterine infection over this past weekend. Dr. Bryan saw her on an emergent basis, made the correct diagnosis, and performed successful surgery the next morning. But more important than his professional expertise was his patient, caring demeanor, and the time he took with my wife and me, answering every single question and putting us at ease. The office staff and techs were also incredibly kind and empathic and treated us more as family than customers. And then on the day of discharge for our Addie, Dr. Young met with us to go over in detail every aspect of Addie's care once we got her home. My pup somehow escaped my house and ran off. I called most of the vet offices on the westbank to report a missing pet. most just wrote down my info and that was it. no compassion or concern. I called this vet office and the level of care and concern really meant alot to me. They shared my flyer on their facebook page and we even followed up when i did find my pup. Unfortunately she had passed when we found her. I adopted another pup and of course this was the first vet i called as I am new to algiers. They actually remembered me and i felt very comfortable and safe entrusting my new pup in their care. They contacted me when he went into surgery and when he was out. I have moved a bit and visited many vets and it's rare to find an office that cares not only about the pets, but their owners as well. Sent my dog for neutering at this clinic and they did not provide the best care possible to my poor pup. First of all after the surgery, no painkillers nor cream were given except for the pain injection he was given on the surgery day. Have to call them 2nd day for the painkillers and the cream as my pup was in discomfort. On 3rd day, went back to them for a cone, as my pup is licking its wound frequently and also whatever cream that was applied to the wound. And the wound area is red. The nurse that attended to me said the clinic do not normally provide the cone as this is so far the 3rd time any dog is requested for it. The clinic had only the extra large cone available and i was sent off to buy one at the store! This is terrible services provided and i am truly disappointed in how much they care about their patient! I will never sent my dog back there again. Hence i only give them a one star. read more

Dr. Sarah and her staff are very nice. Sincere. I know there are other vets here, but we always seem to get her. Their prices are reasonable. I sort of wish they had a separate waiting room for cats and dogs. Also, you can wait a while to be seen here, but to me that's just testament to their popularity. I appreciate that they don't push and up-sell. They let you know your options. This place fits my budget and my cat has gotten compliments on her behavior. (I think she shows off for them and is pretty bad when she's not at the vet!) It isn't fancy, but it is sanitary. read more

I have been going to this vet for a couple of years now and the office staff has always been quite rude, with the exception of one lady. The veterinary doctors at this clinic are very nice, which is why we have continued to go there. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's after a lot of testing and expensive medical bills. I get his medicine elsewhere as it is cheaper than ordering and buying from the clinic. When I went to get his last prescription in late December faxed over to the place that fills it, they stated that they would not be able to unless I came in and paid a $50 outstanding bill from 6 months prior, which I had no knowledge of. I was not able to get there that day as I was working and I explained that. I also stated to her that I would be able to come in and pay it on Monday. She stated that the bill had to be paid before she could send the prescription. I was very upset that they would deny a medication that a dog has to take to live a normal life, due to a $50 bill. I asked her if they ever sent a bill to my house or maybe called me and she stated no, but it needs to be paid. I took off of work early to go up there to pay this bill, as I had no choice my dog needs his medication. Once I got there and paid the bill they tried to tell me that they could not give the script as he needed to be rechecked for his numbers. That was the breaking point for me, as I had just spoken to the doctor 3 months prior to see when he needed to come for his next check up and she stated January. I was shocked I had spent over $2K in medical expenses for my dog and this is how I get treated! Do not use this vet they are not compassionate and are rude. I should have taken note when I was in there the last time with my dog and a lady and a man came in with two puppies that had just been born. They stated that the puppies were having trouble breathing and needed to see the vet as soon as possible. The lady at the front desk said sorry we stopped taking patients for the day. They were not closing for another 15 minutes and the vet just left the room with us, so I know he wasn't seeing any other animals. Why not just ask the vet first and let him decide if they are in need of immediate care? Just shows their hatefulness towards people and animals. read more
