Like most pet owners who find themselves at an emergency clinic, we arrived under heartbreaking circumstances after our large-breed dog suffered a heat stroke. Our dog was initially being treated at another clinic in Houston, TX, but they closed at 6:00 p.m. and did not have the after-hours staff needed to provide the critical care he required. Our regular veterinarian recommended this clinic because they have experienced emergency veterinarians available overnight, so we made the drive. Although our story didn't have the outcome we had hoped for, we would wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to anyone in need of emergency veterinary care. We were truly impressed by the compassion, professionalism, and exceptional level of care our dog received. The team kept us informed with proactive updates, took the time to explain every step of his treatment in detail, and, most importantly, showed genuine care and compassion for both our dog and our family during an incredibly difficult time. VERY SUPER EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ER VET CLINIC!! Unfortunately we have had to go to the emergency vet at crazy hours, nights, weekends, & holidays. We've now brought 4 of our pets and once brought a friend withherdog. Each time we have had the best experiences possible, considering the situations. Snake bite, broken leg when big dog accidentally plowed over tiny dog, cat with pyometra.... Sadly, we found ourselves in need of emergency vet services again. This time it was Abby, our 12 year old bull mastiff/coon hound mix. She had become sick, vomiting, shaking, decreased energy and appetite. So without hesitation, we made the trip from Lumberton to Lake Charles. Dr. Prince was on duty again. We're always comforted and confident with his presence. He did lots of imaging and tests, and spent an extended amount of time with me and my daughter, explaining Abby's diagnosis and prognosis. Lucky for all of us, they were not very busy that night and he had plenty of extra time to explain everything in detail. It appeared she had a mass on her liver, some congestive heart failure from heartworms, and some extremely painful arthritis in her spine. We went home with some medications for pain and for her nausea etc. She felt better for the next week, but unfortunately, that was just temporary. A few weeks later she started going down hill very fast. We took her back to Lake Charles. This time it was the day shift. And we met Dr. Aguilar. He was fantastic! He's soft spoken and kind with a warm soul. He spent a long time talking with us and even cried with us because he had recently lost his dog who had been his long time, constant companion. He was very careful with his words, offering his professional opinion but at the same time, his sincere empathy for our broken hearts. My daughter, who is 19, was the one making the call on if/when it was the right time to let Abby go peacefully, with no more pain or sickness. We had Abby since the day she was born and my daughter was only 7 years old at that time. She can barely remember life before Abby so it was most heart wrenching for her. She wanted to be sure she was making the right decision for Abby. Dr. Prince and Dr. Aguilar were both incredibly informative and caring through this terrible time. I seriously cannot say enough about how much we appreciate them. Also, the vet tech that spent all day with us that day, man I wish I could remember her name. She had kinda shoulder length, black, curly hair. She was an absolute angel. She made that day as comfortable as it could possibly be. After making the decision to have Abby put to sleep, we 1st took her to Starbucks for pup cups , bought her some of her favorite snacks, and took her to the little beach for a while. We went to Hobby Lobby for clay, canvases and paints for her paw prints and nose print. We enjoyed the bittersweet day just loving on her and preparing ourselves to say goodbye. As sad and hard as it still was, I think that day with her gave us a little bit of much needed closure. Our vet tech helped us with the painting projects and even brought us some extra supplies. She also discussed all of our options for cremation etc. She was such a comfort. And she deserves an award and a raise lol. Dr. Aguilar was so kind and informative when he came in the give Abby those final injections. He explained everything to my daughter before each step to make sure she was ready. She sat in the floor and held Abby who laid across her lap. When it was over, they told us we could stay with her for as long as we wanted. We stayed for probably an hour or so. By then, it was time for shift change, and Dr. Prince was there. When he saw me in the hallway he recognized me and asked how we were doing. I told him and told him my daughter was in the exam room and would love to see him. He jumped out of his chair and went right in there. He squatted on the floor beside her and talked to her for a while and gave his condolences. We truly love this place and their staff. I don't care how far from home it is, we will never go anywhere else. If you love your pets and find yourselves in a crisis, please don't hesitate to go to Lake Charles Pet Emergency Clinic. 6/23/25- Had to take our two female Bostons because they were both bitten by a water moccasin letting them out to potty before bedtime. Made the hour drive to bring our oldest Bostons and got there, checked her in and our daughter called to tell us our other baby's face was swelling. I had looked her over before leaving and didnt think she was bitten. So I had to rush back home and get our daughter and other furbaby and hurry back to the clinic. The staff was great. Understanding. Patient. The Dr. was awesome. Explained to us the procedure they were going to use, any worries he had. I'm thankful I still have both my babies. read more

We had a very frightening emergency episode with our little Chihuahua after 10 pm on a Saturday nite. We really thought he was dying. We drove 40 miles to get emergency care for our little man, and we are so thankful for these kind, caring techs and the sweet Dr. San Martin. When you are in a situation like that, you feel so helpless...but I was so relieved to step inside that clinic. I knew immediately that Carlito was in good hands. The clinic is very clean and everyone working there was professional, kind and helpful. We left 2 hours later with our baby, he was back to normal, we were tired, sleepy but so very happy and grateful! I have read reviews from others on here griping about the cost. This is an EMERGENCY room for animals! Think about the ER costs for you at your local hospital. There are signs all around the lobby saying they offer payment plans...They aren't there to scalp you. Their goal is to help your pet live! They also provide you with a run down of their immediate treatment plan with the costs clearly listed BEFORE you agree to move forward. Yes, they are a little high, but all things considered, its well in line with any other service provider that you desperately need on week-ends or late nights. (think plumbers, electricians, doctors, etc) I highly recommend this place. read more

TERRIBLE business which cares more about money than animals! They spent more time concerned with how much they could rack up in a ridiculous bill than they dif trying to save our injured dog! After confirming internal bleeding , they left him separated from his human, scared, in pain, waiting... for what? Until he was quite literally on deaths door over an hour later, put him on the table and cut him open only to have him finally crash and then of course they were "forced" to perform yet another billable action (cpr which they charged $135 for!). This "surgery" they felt justified in charging $400 for bc they "opened a surgical pack and have to autoclave the instruments' (biggest load of you know what). So, come pick up your dead best friend and here's your bill for over $1100. Do NOT bring any animal you care about here!! read more

While traveling from Phoenix to Tampa our 13 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel went into Respiratory Distress. We kind of knew it was the end, but you always have a tiny hope -- at least we did. Dr. Prince and the entire staff couldn't have treated us or our girl, Britt, any better. Dr. Prince was amazing both clinically and with his bedside manner. He clearly explained what Britt was going through which helped reassure us that we were making the right decision. NEVER COMING BACK! first time at this place and they made me feel extremely uncomfortable! maybe 4 different staff questioning me about why i'm there, assuming i poisoned my dog by the questions, they examined my dog for $100, did not think enough of my dog to attend to her immediately instead put her in a kennel and made sure to get a large IN FULL PAYMENT before they tended to her further, not that it was an emergency or anything! read more

Dr. Prince and the rest of the staff at this hospital were absolutely excellent. When my puppy came down with Parvo they were all extremely helpful and took excellent care of her. I'm not sure she would have made it if they hadn't been able to take her in when every other Vet was closed. If you have a pet emergency, I would highly recommend this location. read more

Yesterday (12/22/2019) my dog presented with what looked like a stroke or seizure to me-staggering, could stand, screeching-that was an Emergency to me, a young person came in saying he was the vet-Christopher Stephens. He DID not examine my dog, barely looked at him-was looking at the computer or the floor...NO EYE Contact with me at all. He didn't look old enough to be out of high school, it didn't help that he had BBQ sauce on his beard and REAKED of onions-the whole place smelled of BBQ. Told me I could get over the counter meds didn't write anything down. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY the charges were almost $200.00 and I could have gotten better info from Animal Planet REAL vets not this all self-important teenager. read more

This happened about six months ago but I just got around to posting it. We brought our pregnant dog there when her labor stalled, but unfortunately we chose to bring her right before they closed. We never even saw the doctor. The nurse took a brief look at her and told us all they'd be able to do was give our dog a shot since they were about to close. They told us we should save our money and wait until the regular vet opened. They gave us some information to apply for credit to pay the other vet and sent us on our way. Of course this negative review is because my dog and the puppies died less than two hours later. The other vet told me if she'd gotten treatment earlier, they might have at least been able to save the puppies. Staff was more worried about getting off on time and how they were getting paid than saving our dog's life. read more

My dog was seen around Christmas and we had a good experience. Last night my dog went into CHF and we rushed her in. As I told the two ladies in front I have No money today , but you can run my bank card Thurs. my husbands check will be there. That was the only way I could make an arrangement. They agreed and both said it was fine. The two assistants took my dog and rushed her to oxygen. I was sat in a room and the office manager came in telling me and my husband they no longer will hold payment and they need 500 today or 130 for very min they will do. I didn't have it. NOTHING!!! The office manager then proceeded to tell me I can't just bring my dog in and get free care and I should have seen the signs on the wall of payment is due at time of services. First of all, I told the front desk lady's that took my dog from me I had no money and would have to put my card on file and run thurs. they took my dog said it was fine , so I thought everything was fine. Second of all, your over an office and need to have some respect for customers. Most of us during a emergency With our beloved pets still need to be treated with respect and not spoken to like we just came off the street. If you couldn't hold my debt number and run it Thurs than your assistants should have told me and I would have went elsewhere. However at Christmas when my dog was sick and we brought her I was able to call before coming that time and they had no problem holding my card number. I have no balance due and my dog was very sick. I didn't expect free care from anyone. I expected respect and to be spoken to like an adult and should have been told upfront you couldn't hold my card and my dog should never have been taken from my arms if u we're not able to help me! We will never return to this place and I hope your future customers are treated right. Also, at a time like last night where my pet was on the brink of death I wasn't looking at your walls reading your signs! So not a good excuse to give me when your staff should never have touched my dog and told me it was fine at the beginning. My vet was informed of your services and agrees you handled things with us very wrong. I hope this business finds a staff that knows the rules and their jobs, A office manager who is not rude to customers and can talk to people without treating Them this way in their time of need and anxiety. Usually when someone comes to your place of business they are usually worked up enough from their loved fur animal being sick or hurt. Show some compassion and if u can't this isn't the job for u. Most of us live paycheck to paycheck and it's hard to know when your fur baby will get sick and you have to have an extra 500 dollars for the week just so you can help them till their vet opens. Your prices are ridiculous, staff knows nothing and your office manager can't do her job!! Time to change somethings. Thank God my dog made it to her vet this morning. Also, by the way my dog is a girl as you and your staff even vet referred to her as a him or oxygen dog. Very rude. Can see where your hearts are and it's not in your animals. It's in the money. Every animal usually has a name and their owners sure don't like hearing them referred to as " oxygen dog", or him when it's a her, her when it's a him. My Maymay is old but thanks to HER VET she will be ok and we will be able to enjoy our fur baby's love for a bit longer. read more

I took my dog around midnight to the emergency clinic after she presumed got stung by a wasp. She had a very bad diarrhea, vomiting and her head was swollen again. Dr Price and his staff were very kind. However, the negative is, according to my veterinarian some of the charges were things absolutely unnecessary; as canned food, hospitalization, intravenous catheter; antibiotics. All those extras only increased my bill to almost $500. My advice is to discuss first with the Clinic about each charge and ask if it is absolutely necessary or if it is something that the veterinarian will determine the next day. At the end Dr Price said that he was not sure if it was an allergic reaction to any insect bite or some type of gastrointestinal problems (which according to my veterinarian my dog's symptoms had nothing to do with the stomach). After picking up my dog at 6 in the morning Dr. said that I must needed to take my dog to my veterinarian for evaluation (they only had her to observation, very pricey only for that) and sent with me the electrolytes, for which he refused to give me instructions to manage it by myself because that was only to my veterinarian use. The meds, IV electrolytes, the intravenous catheter and canned food went to the garbage because my veterinarian told me next day that all that were not necessary!! read more
