Gus and his amazing staff have been petsitting our three cats for over four years now, taking care of all of their food, water, and cat litter needs- as well as making time to play and interact with them during their visits. Signing up for the service was easy- after a quick house visit with Gus, the owner, we exchanged keys, and from that point on, were easily able to book an appointment on their website. In addition, once the appointment was set and we were away from our home, Gus and our assigned sitters were extremely responsive to any questions or concerns we had, and were more than happy to send us daily photos and videos of our cats or to accommodate last minute requests or detailed instructions. Whether we were away from our home for a 1 day getaway or a 10 day vacation, it was extremely comforting to know that our cats were well cared for, interacted with, and and well taken care of. Things started off positively. It was easy to set up my account and set up an initial consult. I hired them for 3 days to watch my cat and also decided to add an additional day at the last minute which they were very accommodating about. I received a text and picture the first two days from my sitter but nothing for the next two days. I emailed the company to make sure someone had been by but got no response - though I wasn't totally worried about this. I did get worried when I returned home at the end of my trip to find that the key wasn't in my lockbox where I'd left it for the pet sitter. Further, after getting into my place - it appeared that no one had been there in a few days. My cats dry food bowl was nearly empty, his litter box had more than one days worth of use and his water had a film over top of it. I called the person who did my initial consult about the key and the fact that I wasn't sure if anyone had been there for the last two days and said he was working on tracking down the pet sitter to find out where my key was and if he'd been there. Five hours had passed and I hadn't gotten a call back so I was thinking - should I change my locks?? Has this cat sitter run away with my keys? So I start with another round of calls, which no one is answering. I decided to give Facebook messenger a try and someone answered. As it turns out it was the owner who was answering and told me was trying to take a day off but would help me. He was quite rude and condescending. At this point I'd tracked down the cat sitter directly and we had agreed to meet at my house to exchange the key but the owner got involved and decided to meet me. I told him about why this experience was concerning for me and I said that all I wanted was to confirm whether or not someone had been by to take care of my cat for all of the days I'd paid for so that I could get a refund if someone did not in fact go by. That was a week ago and I haven't heard back. read more

We worked with pet peeps for over two years. They took care of our cat when we would go out of town for a few days (every few months or so). The sitters always took photos, and clearly spent time with our cat. Her water, food dish, and litter were always nice and clean, and our cat was very chilled out when we returned, a good sign she was snuggled and spoiled while we were gone! We did not receive a report on our cat until day 3 of our trip. Then the reports did not communicate any issues. I really wanted to be able to provide more positive feedback for this company because it has such great potential to provide a necessary service and piece of mind for devoted pet parents. I should start by saying that the service I received from the actual employee who showed up at my house was reasonable. It seems he fed my cats and gave them water, and he was willing to send me an update with photos every other day. However, I had communication issues with the office and received little information about the process and what to expect until I reached out with concerns and questions. This continued even through after I left for my trip and caused me to have to make continent arrangements in case nobody ever showed up. I think this is a necessary and wonderful service for people in my position who need the pet care, but the piece of mind and anxiety-relief component was not there. Had this aspect been much more seamless, my relationship with pet peeps would continue and this would have been a great experience. read more

Buyer Beware is all I have to say. I was in a bind after my petsitter bailed on me so I went to Pet People to have someone come stay at my house with my two pups. The website quoted $55/overnight stay for two dogs. When they got to my house for our consultation, turns out that the $55 only covers a 12 hour period! So if I wanted them to take my dogs out before the sitter left for work in the morning, then I had to also pay a dog walking fee! I felt baited and switched to say the least. When I questioned the owner Gus about this, since the site didn't stipulate the very odd 12 hour pricing, he became very angry. Saying that I was insinuating that he was dishonest. For the next 30 mins he stayed in my house iteratively saying that NO ONE had ever accused him of such a thing before and how offended he was. In the end it started feeling like a therapy session and it was terribly awkward having him in my house. I wouldn't ever, ever use Pet People. The pricing seems dishonest, exorbitant and I wouldn't want someone with the temper that was shown to me to have access to my house or pets!! read more

I don't know what I'd do without my Pet Peeps! I have a loving cat who needs a lot of attention and I travel frequently. From pet visits to overnight pet sits they are always there for me (well, us actually!) and my cat as a happy little man when I get home from trips as such. They take the time to text me with pictures to let me know how the little guy is doing and make sure he's getting all the attention he needs, without having to take him out of the comfort of home! Gus's initial visit was nice, although he was late. He did let me know that he was running late though, which wasn't a problem at all. He was pleasant and friendly and re-assured me that I wouldn't have to worry about anything with him. This initial interview took about 25 minutes and cost me I think $25 (forgot the exact amount). I really only got to use Gus's services twice, both of which went off with no problem. I'm not sure how much the cat sitter actually played with my cat though, because the toys were literally untouched/in the exact same position that I left them in. Or, the cat sitter was very good at putting things back. This last Monday, I put in a request for cat sitting services for this weekend. Granted that it is a Holiday weekend, they would be busy, but they never got back to me, ever. After I put in the request, I emailed to confirm with Gus that they received my request. No response. I then emailed twice more, and called and left a voice mail. Considering it's the day before I leave, I didn't know what else to do and reached out to my alternative cat sitter who promptly wrote me back to say she was booked (at least she responded!!). Because of that, I've been scrambling around trying to find a cat sitter. Fortunately, I have two very nice friends who said they'd take turns watching my cat. All in all, strong start, weak follow-through. read more

What more can be said? Pet Peeps, the staff, and Gus (owner) are absolutely amazing. I go out of town a lot, and most of the time my trips are not planned long in advance. With a minimum 24-48 hours notice Pet Peeps is available to babysit my cat. Also, on the drop of a dime they are willing to help out when I have to extend my trips. They're always friendly, always responsible, and very well priced for the service and peace of mind that you get. I have a 25 lbs. bengal cat and I'm glad to say that he doesn't gain any weight while I'm away because Pet Peeps sticks to his strict feeding instructions (he actually loses weight while I'm out of town). One thing I really like is that Gus made an in-person visit to my house the very first time I booked Pet Peeps. That immediately made me feel comfortable and really gave a face to the business. Also, they don't mind when you call for updates (I don't call often, but I do call) and the pet sitter always leaves me a note letting me know how things went. Bottom line, my pet is alive and happy as a clam considering that his personal pillow and grooming service (me) is out of town. I love Pet Peeps! I have a large Maine Coon cat that is more of a dog then a cat - he really loves having someone around when I am traveling. I shopped around and called many pet sitters, Pet Peeps and Gus were fantastic from the first contact call. Gus put me at ease right away and he is great in matching your pet to the right sitter. The sitter's have been fantastic. Fletcher enjoys his time with them and is so much happier when I have someone stay with him overnight. Easy & prompt communication with me thru the initial visit & subsequent ones to care for Lo'Retty. My cat seemed happy when I got back home, with no frosty silences from under the bed. Among the things that my wife and I love: our cats, and road trips. The cats, however, do not love road trips. Hence our need -- particularly this summer, when we spent a month in various parts of Vermont -- for someone competent and kind to look after them. Enter Pet Peeps, or more precisely, Gus Elfving, who impressed me from our first phone call, responding immediately to my web inquiry on his company web site. Within a day, we had scheduled a consultation at our apartment, where he met our cats, and was particularly diligent about details large and small -- where the cleaning supplies were, where to find replacement light bulbs, if needed -- and in general was obviously concerned about doing a thorough job, and and the welfare of our pets. While we were away, his team member (due to the large demand for his services, his staff handles many of the visits) made it a point to call to assure us that all was well, leaving her number. Upon our return, we found our cats obviously relaxed and happy and cared-for, and a detailed note about the visits. Overall, we were more than happy with Pet Peeps and Gus' team, and the earnest recommendations of the front desk staff at our building, who knew him on a first-name basis because of his popularity among the building's many pet owners, all but spoke for itself. Having lived in Washington, DC for the last several years and just moved to Miami, where I have yet to find a comprehensive pet care service like this one, I really miss PetPeeps! My two cats are pretty easy to care for, but I know how much I valued being able to call just one company for a variety of tasks- from day-to-day visits to refresh food and water while I'm travelling, to arranging for actual company and quality time for my pets, even overnight stays? The peace of mind has been great. I'm sure that if your pet has greater needs (like dogs who need to be walked often, etc.) PetPeeps can handle it. I used PetPeeps for holiday travel, and despite being a sort of last-minute add-on, they were able to work me into the schedule and I can't say that I experienced the slightest hiccup. We had our initial interview to get to know our pets and our house within 48 hours of booking our sitter, and it was smooth sailing from there. I loved the preliminary visit I had with Gus- it really seemed like he thought of everything!! I was surprised by the thoroughness of his questions to prepare his sitter- right down to where to leave my mail and how to take out the trash! The attention to detail really made me feel better about things (especially because my two very similar looking cats have very different dietary needs and Gus made really careful notes about who needs what and when- so important). When my sitter came, I received photo texts and updates to confirm that my little guys were alive and well (even with cute holiday details incorporated since this was over Thanksgiving). I found my sitter's correspondence to be timely, thorough, and professional, even leaving a personal note for us to find upon our return. It makes me feel very reassured knowing that a real animal-lover will be looking after my dog while I'm out of town, and it's a lot less stress on my dog to not have to put her in the kennel! Pet Peeps is great! We've used them for years, and their level of attention and care has only improved with time. In particular, Gus and his sitters went above and beyond recently when our plumbing malfunctioned, flooding our house while we were away. The sitter and Gus got the water turned off and did their best to mop up water, and helped letting in the remediation company. They also continued to come to everyday to feed our two very scared cats, who had hidden themselves during the flood and the work by the remediation crew. Gus kept us informed multiple times a day and followed up afterwards. We are deeply thankful they were there to help in our home disaster. read more

This place is wonderful! I was worried of leaving my 5 month old kitten home alone for a weekend for the first time. I like that you can sign up online, make appointments online, and put in the information needed too. What is great about their service (besides the fact that it is pretty inexpensive) is that Gus comes to your home to meet your pet and get to know everything, including where the trash and mail is located. They ask where the vet is in case the pet gets sick and even makes sure it is ok to take the pet out in case of an emergency. He takes a ton a notes and is really friendly. My sitter emailed me everyday about my pet and how she was doing. She even offered to feed my fish. When i came home, there was a nice note about what she did every day and how my kitten was doing over all. If you need a pet sitting service, use Pet Peeps. I They are trustworthy, reliable, and really care about your concerns and the well being of your pet. I will def be using them again. read more

I could tell from the level of detail they requested that they were pretty enthusiastic about animals. I was about to rush back home when I got another call: the Pet Peeps dog walker had captured her (she loves all her dog walkers, so I'm not surprised she was happy to go with him) and delivered her safely home. I have been using Pet Peeps for about 10 years and wanted to share my experience before moving out of state. I first contacted them when I moved into a new neighborhood in DC. I had a last minute trip and needed a pet sitter for my 2 cats. I was able to schedule the initial orientation (with Gus) on short notice and on we went. It is easy to schedule pet sitting services online, even on short notice. I always appreciated that they would let me know when they had a scheduling conflict and would reach out to me to coordinate. For the very few times that I had a concern, I always received a quick response. One of the hard things about moving is having to find reliable services, including the care of your pets while you are out of town, and Pet Peeps was that for me. read more

I really wanted to give pet peeps a good review, since they seem to have such positive comments from everyone else, but unfortunately, I feel like I am being generous with 2 stars. I have cats, so this review is only for their 30-minute a day cat service. My first experience with them was 3 years ago (I have only used them 3 times in 3 years) when the pet sitter left the screen-less window open in my kitchen allowing a gazillion bugs to enter my house to feast on the cat food. After this incident, the owner Gus, was really friendly and offered me a credit of 1/2 the cost of my trip. The second time I used them was lovely and I had no issues. Over the holidays this year was my third and last time using them. I was a bit worried when I didn't receive a text/phone call the first day that the pet sitter was supposed to be in my house, but with all the travelling and activities I was too busy to follow-up. The next day, I got a text from the pet sitter that confirmed my suspicions. the sitter had forgotten to pick up the keys to my house and never showed up. It was over 48 hours that my cats were left without fresh food or water. The sitter was really apologetic and kind about his error, but kindness does not remedy starving cats. I immediately called Gus and left a message about the issue. He called back within a few hours and said he would contact my sitter and find out what was going on and call me back. I still haven't heard from him and it's been nearly a week. I haven't even received a refund for the missed visit. The really awful part is that I have 2 indoor cats, who never go outside and have no contact with other animals and when I returned from my trip, I was disgusted to find flea dirt around my house- well really I just found weird black stuff everywhere and had to google what it was because I this is my first experience with fleas. After 13 years as a cat owner, without fleas, the only conclusion that I could come to was that the pet sitter must have brought the fleas into my house from another visit while I was away. Maybe this is unavoidable, but I am so thoroughly disgusted with having to deal with bugs in my house, taking an extra day off from work to take the cats to the vet, the extra laundering costs, etc. that come with dealing with fleas, I cannot imagine using this company ever again. I left another voicemail for Gus when I returned asking about both the refund for the missed visit and to discuss getting reimbursed for the fleas and I still haven't heard back (it's been 2 more days). All I can say is make sure you use preventative flea medicine if you are going to use this company. My skin is crawling just thinking about it. read more

It pains me to write this, because I was once a very happy client. Let me begin by saying that Pet Peeps did take wonderful care of my rabbits each and every time I used them. Unfortunately, it seems that in the past year or so, things have gotten really busy and out of hand. I live in an apartment complex that requires me to give the name of folks entering our unit while we are away. They have to check in with the concierge. Even though I've signed a form with them that says "Anyone from Pet Peeps," that's not enough -- and I appreciate the security to be honest. Pet Peeps' booking process involves scheduling your appointment online, and they will approve it and charge you within two weeks of the date. I always make my appointments well in advance. On a trip going out of the country, I became very worried when within the two weeks, my appointment still wasn't approved. I called several times and left messages. An entire day went by before Gus called me back. His tone was rude and patronizing. He seemed put-off that he had to call me back to answer my very legitimate question of: Is anyone coming to watch my rabbits while I'm on a two week vacation out of the country? I let it slide because I've worked in the service industry before, and I know that you can have a bad day every now and then. My appointment was approved soon after, and everything was fine. Our relationship ended this past Thanksgiving, when the same thing happened. Unfortunately calls and emails went unanswered, and my appointment went unapproved up until 5 days before my trip. Gus finally returned my email on the 5th day out, saying that he was working on finalizing logistics and my appointment would be approved soon. I didn't hear anything. When it got to be 3 days out, I began to panic. I had no reassurance that anyone was coming to pet sit, and my husband and I were going to be gone for an entire week. I called Pet Peeps repeatedly and sent emails. Toward the end of that day, Gus finally calls me back. Again, he is rude, patronizing, and seems put-off that I'm "bothering" him. He tells me that he's short-staffed, that one of his sitters was hit by a car, he was working 10 hour days, he wants to give his staff time off during the holidays, and that he would come over himself and feed the bunnies if he had to, but he didn't really want to. Yes, he said that. I stressed that I needed a name to give my apartment, because I really had no idea what to say at this point. He said he'd get back to me, and knew that wasn't what I wanted to hear. At this point, I called my husband, freaking out -- because I was given no reassurance that this appointment was actually being taken care of, especially when the owner says that he'll do it even though he doesn't really want to. I understand that work is frustrating and no one really wants to work 10 hours a day, but you are in the service industry, and you chose this profession! Holidays are when folks actually need your service! Come on! One of my friends volunteered to take care of the rabbits, so I asked my husband to call Gus and cancel over the phone, and that I would cancel also over their website. My husband called me back to let me know that Gus was rude to him on the phone as well! The icing on the cake was an email that I received from him after canceling the appointment online, which read: I'm sorry if you felt your appointment did not matter to us. I had to use all the restraint I had not to reply back: Can you blame me? read more

Awful! I don't trust these guys and would not recommend them. Gus, the owner, came over for an initial visit and was very rude. I have bunnies and he is not familiar with them, so I was answering some questions about their veterinary care, but he kept rolling his eyes at me! He was rude and sarcastic, and uninterested in listening to anything I had to say. He seemed like one of those guys who thinks he knows what is best for your pets better than you (even when he clearly does not). Based only on the fact that I preferred they take my bunnies to a rabbit-savvy vet instead of the general one Pet Peeps likes (provided they're open), Gus cancelled on me 12 hours before I needed a sitter, totally leaving me in the lurch! I still think it's for the best, since I wouldn't have trusted him with my pets anyway, but sure wish he hadn't put me in this position of having to do a last-minute scramble! All in all, I got a weird, negative, controlling, untrustworthy vibe from Pet Peeps. I would never consider working with them again and do not recommend them to anyone else. read more

Pet Peeps failed to show up for over a week when my husband and I hired them to watch our two cats during our honeymoon. After a home visit by the owner of the company, Gus, and repeated assurances that everything would run smoothly, we entrusted our pets to Pet Peeps. A week into our honeymoon, our neighbor alerted us to a grinding noise coming from our condo. Luckily, we had given our neighbor spare keys and he was able to investigate. The grinding sound was the filter on our cat's electronic water bowl, which had been empty for a long time. Our cats had no food, no water and it was clear that no one from Pet Peeps had visited our home. After a number of frantic calls to Pet Peeps, they indicated that there had "been a mix up" and that the pet sitter "had been going to another customer's house" because our "names are similar and they got confused". During our two week honeymoon, Pet Peeps showed up during the last six days. Upon our return, we attempted to receive a refund for the terrible service that put our pets' lives at serious risk. Pet Peeps owner, Gus, indicated that he would not be willing to issue a full refund because "mistakes happen" and "they did show up for 6 days". Gus offered us free pet sitting during our next trip...as if we would give his company a second chance after their abysmal first showing. I hate to think what we would have come home to had it not been for that grinding filter and our wonderful neighbor. Given the number of no-show complaints on this Yelp page...buyer beware. Pet Peeps is extremely unreliable. I made a consultation appointment in November for cat care over the holidays. Since I made the appointment pretty far in advance, the day before I e-mailed and left a voicemail to confirm. Gus never showed up and when I called offered a half-hearted apology and asked to reschedule. Today was the day of the rescheduled appointment and he was a no show again. To be honest, I was not surprised the second time. Every interaction I had on the phone with Gus he seemed extremely disorganized and once did not even know what day it was. In order to do the first appointment, I had to work a weekend day and take a weekday off because Gus insisted on meeting during business hours. This whole experience has been extremely inconvenient for me and suffice to say I do not recommend this service. Because I am going out of town tomorrow, I am now inconveniencing a family member who will have to make a long trip to take care of my cats. I used to use Pet Peeps for cat-sitting. While the individual cat sitters seemed fine, I was never fully impressed with their communication--no one ever tells you who is going to be your sitter and how to contact them so it was always a guess. Also, the sitters varied in their communications--some texted during their pet-sit and others only left a note. However, my most recent trip out of town, Pet Peeps did not have anyone come to pet-sit for me. My elderly, diabetic cat was left without care for nearly 3 days. I only got a voice-mail after notifying the Better Business Bureau about being billed for no service, and even that voice-mail was terse and unapologetic. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend them and am now looking for a new, trustworthy service. read more

They didn't show up for the first appointment. After many calls since I was leaving town a guy came to get my key and asked no questions. I received zero updates for the two days my dog was watched. I came home to my dog's pee all over the place. They left my dog alone and never showed up... Sad that they also charged me for the overnight stay and walks. Do Not use this service it is a scam and will endanger your pet. read more

Used Pet Peeps again for Labor Day weekend - Cristina was our petsitter this time. She was just as fabulous as the others, and I appreciated how she texted me the evening we returned to D.C., even though we had only scheduled one visit for earlier that morning, just so she can make sure we arrived home okay and that I got my key back.
