I started seeing Elizabeth and Steven, who set me up on a twice-a-week plan for a few weeks, then once a week after that, and it actually worked. My pain dropped dramatically, and I began looking forward to each session. If you've never been to a community-style acupuncture clinic, it might feel a little different at first: a big, peaceful room filled with recliners (each with its own colorful sheet) and everyone in full relaxation mode. I've walked by this particular place a handful of times, and had no idea they had Acupuncture! I definitely want to check them out! On this particular day, I was going to check out the tinctures they had in different drinks inside their little refrigerator. I was surprised to see so many different types of vitamins, as well as Replacement/supplements in their store!! I need to make an appointment with them next time so I can actually get Acupuncture! But the lady was very nice and greeted me. She told me the pricing since they didn't really have a price sheet. i have had an 8 year long chronic cough going back to 2016 that dominated my life. Stanford, UCSF and many other doctors with no final solution or remedy. i wont go into deep details of how it made my life miserable, but it did. especially spending multiple thousand dollars(still paying) to get no real results. and I truly thought for sure acupuncture would lead to the same let down. I'm a newbie to acupuncture, but fairly well-verses in other alternative medicines and practices (chiropractic, yoga, nutrition, etc). I just finished up session #2 at PCA after a stubborn recurring neck/shoulder tension issue, which has been known to cause me migraines. After leaving today, I felt the first *real* relief since this bout started over 2 weeks ago. This after pulling out the Big Guns (muscle relaxants, ibuprofen, tiger balm, and heating pad--all at the same time--with marginal results). I love that the practitioners here consider the whole body when approaching treatment (well that's acupuncture, isn't it?). I was impressed that even the smallest of details I provide are factored in and considered. I feel heard for the first time. While my problem neck and shoulder issue isn't fully resolved, I feel confident that it will soon be. And the thought of actually dealing with other mysterious ailments I've had over my life is exciting. I feel confident in the practitioners I've had so far and love the community vibe of this place. The one suggestion I would have is to fix the air conditioner/heating unit. It's effective at keeping the space cozy, but sooo loud. To the point of drowning out the white noise machines and calming music playing in the background. read more

Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere-NOT! I have been going here for years,seen many therapists,was a great service until tonight when i got the cold rude news at the front door that their prima-donna therapist,Amber,cancelled my appointment for personal reasons and i was not booked a replacement therapist,even though i had made the appointment the week before,My knees have been really bad with all the rain and i was looking forward to getting some pain relief. There are allot of pain remedy therapists to go to in petaluma,there parking is often difficult,hard to find chairs that are big enough for me and the really loud fan makes it hard to relax,So i drove down the street 1 block to jessie jing's foot massage,for the same price you get a much better service with full body shiatsu acupressure, & allot more without the drama. read more

My friend made an appointment for me and I was very skeptical, but went anyway and agreed to have an open mind (if only a little). I broke some vertebrae many years back and have learned to live with the injury by being grateful that I can walk. This place rocks! Acupuncture always seemed out of my reach because of the high cost for "private" appointments. When I heard about the community, sliding scale model here in Petaluma, I thought I would give it a try. I sought treatment for a painful neurological condition called RSD/CRPS. Both acupuncturists were familiar with my condition, and seemed upbeat and optimistic about my treatment. The treatment room is large with high ceilings. There are numerous over sized recliners, with blankets and pillows for your comfort. When you arrive for you appointment you select the chair you would like, and get comfortable. Your acupuncturist will then consult with you and begin treatment. They are all knowledgeable in herbal and homeopathic treatments that they may discuss with you too. There is soft calming music playing. You can stay as long as you want. Most people seem to stay about an hour. Overall a wonderful addition to Petaluma! read more

I recently had my first ever acupuncture treatment here, and I was thoroughly impressed by the results! I've had pain stemming from a dislocated jaw, back issues and re-occurring tendonitis that I can't seem to shake, but even after one treatment I felt worlds better. Petaluma Community Acupuncture is a true gem in the community! I started going for acupuncture and also cupping for some serious neck and back injuries after an accident. I had tried everything in conventional medicine and couldn't get relief. The cupping treatments have been the most beneficial for me and I particularly like seeing Elizabeth who is a self proclaimed "cupping ninja". She does several rounds of cupping and gets every major muscle group that has been bothering me. Everyone that i've met is knowledgeable and kind. Their prices are affordable and they offer a sliding scale based on income. They also have a fantastic retail section with every herb you can imagine. I don't know if Acupuncture works or not, but I showed up at 1:29 for a 1:30 appointment and didn't receive treatment until 2:10. Normally I allow an hour and had some flexibility till 3:45, but I realized I'd actually spent more time waiting than being treated. I think maybe they should work on the scheduling a bit as there were several people needing the Accupuncturist on duty's attention at the same time. Kevin Cates is a patient and compassionate healer. In todays world, even a good practitioner can easily be caught up in the overall pace of life, but this has not been the case with Kevin when I've had care from him. And it is clear that he DOES care, which is something that you cannot just get from the professional training. Realistically given the nature of community acupuncture it can easily become a kind of "fast food" medicine, but I do not get that sense with Kevin even though the time spent is necessarily brief. I've been going to PCA for years off and on (as well as other community acupuncture clinics) and there are other good practitioners, but I felt Kevin should be highlighted. Besides he sacrifices his Sundays so people are able to get care at a time that works for many of us. read more

About 2 years ago I came in for the first time because my allergies would not let me function ,even with medication. After one session I was able to stop my medication. About a month ago I went again because of my allergies, Elizabeth told me it was really rare for allergies to be gone after one single session, but again I am not on meds anymore. I was not even able to eat cherries before because my mouth would get really itchy and it would last for days. After this last session I've been eating pounds of them with no issue at all. I started going to PCA for tendonitis in my shoulder. Along with physical therapy, thanks to treatment I received at PCA I am now completely pain free. I have also gotten treatment for a chronic digestive condition I've had for several years. Traditional medicine helped very little. All they could do is prescribe lots of harsh drugs with terrible side effects. Acupuncture treatment at PCA has helped tremendously. The difference in my condition now is like night and day. I had a strange nerve thing going on with one of my fingers, some anxiety going on, and neck and shoulder pain from to much stress. I remember coming here three years ago, and being treated like gold. So I decided to come back and try it out because of various health things going on. The receptionist was incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming. She smiled and made me feel comfortable, and booked me for the next day since I came in at closing time. I came in the next day, and updated some things on my form about medication and injuries. I was then told to go into the next room. Inside quiet relaxing oriental sounding music plays. There are giant chairs draped in sheets that people are laid upon or sitting in with needles all over various parts of their body based upon what they are there for. I am told to take a chair. I run to the restroom first. The restroom is clean, lemony fresh smelling, and big. I make my way to a chair and sit for about one or two minutes before the acupuncturist (probably wrong term) comes up to me with a big smile. She obviously read my sheet and approached me asking if, "we are working on anxiety?" And I replied yes, but also I have this weird nerve thing going on in my finger as well as neck and shoulder pain. She nods and says she will be right back with some clean needles. I am nervous. I tell her this...that it has been a while since I have done this so I am a little afraid. She says she will go slow and tell me where she is placing them. This helps, and she begins by place a few on the top of my head. I barely feel the prick. I can feel the one between my eyes on my forehead, but it isn't to bad. Like a small quick pinch. I feel the others too, on my leg and foot, ears especially. and the ones on my arm and hand, but they are tolerable and quick...not bad at all. I am told to not move my right arm, but my left one is fine to move. After she is done poking needles in me, she asks if I'm alright and I ask how long I am suppose to stay there for. She says about 30-45 minutes. She asks if I want to incline the chair more so I am laying completely down, to which I say I am fine sitting. I don't like sleeping during the day and have no intention of falling asleep. But she asks if I fall asleep, do I want her to wake me up? I say yes and then I sink into the relaxation process, earbuds in with a nice audible book. I find that after 3-5 minutes, I am struggling to keep awake. The points to ease my anxiety must be taking effect because I never struggle to stay awake during the day. I fight it, but I end up dozing several times. After about 40 minutes, she comes over and asks if I am ready to get up. I nod and she pulls out all the needles and throws them away in a big red plastic container. She helps me up out of the chair and I wobble a bit, still drowsy and blinking my eyes. I am a broke college student, which is really nice for me because this is a sliding scale for payment of 25 to 40 ish. I pay 30, being a broke student and all. I leave feeling refreshed and very relaxed. I definitely will be back if I can! read more

The best part is how deep the treatments are, I was pleasantly surprised by the combination of quality and community.
