This isn't a frequent stop for me, but I have been to this Petco location on a couple of occasions. It looks like most Petco locations inside. It seems to be well organized and and clean. On the few occasions I've been by, it's been for a vaccination clinic. As someone with three dogs, it feels like one of them is always due for a vaccination and I do appreciate that offer these clinics, which are usually more reasonably priced than going to the veterinarian. Everyone we've encountered here has been helpful and friendly. This won't likely ever become a regular stop but happy they're here for the times when I need them! read more

We impulsively decided to adopt a puppy and having never had a pet before I blindly wandered into petco unsure of what I'd need. The employees there were so helpful and very friendly. They helped me pick out everything we'd need to make sure Frankie(our puppy) would have a smooth transition moving into our home. That was a couple months ago and I've been back several times and employees are very knowledgeable. They've offered suggestions and various products as we navigate our way through potty training, grooming, and any other issues that have come up. absolutely the worst experience i have ever had. my boyfriend and i went in to buy 2 fish for our fish tank. we had a 20 gallon tank. thomas, approached us with extreme disrespect as soon as he came up to us. then proceeded to get angry at us because we didn't know the exact species of fish that we already had in our tank, and claimed we had "way to many fish" already. we then went to pet world to get our fish there and found out they were out of business, and gave us a 100 gallon tank for $100. we then went back to petco and talked to thomas again. as soon as we told him about our 100 gallon tank we bought, he stormed off and said "i'm done w this conversation". as he didn't believe that we had a 100 gallon tank, as it was quite literally sitting in the back of my car. awful service, and thomas if u see this, my 8 fish that i have in my now 100 gallon tank are doing just fine. read more

This place is mf awful. These groomers are a joke. I took my Chihuahua mix there for a bath, nail trim, teeth cleaning. They only did 3 of his 4 paws trimmed and then OVERTRIMMED his back paws. He screamed when I touched his feet. They didn't clean his teeth and he wasn't even dry when I came to pick him up. I hate this Petco with my whole being. Just stopped by to pick up some dog food. I bought a 13 pound bag and some packets. When I got to the front one of the questions they asked me was if I wanted a plastic bag. However, they were going to charge me for that. I'm sorry, I'm buying something in your store and you should supply me with a bag for free. They also tried to sell me some service where I would pay $25 a month and get possible discounts on food and things. I'm on a retirees budget and can't afford that. Although the clerk was polite, I thought that was uncalled for. If anything , when placing my items in a bag that I should've gotten, you could always place a pamphlet in there that talks about the extra service. Leia the trainer is amazing! Me and my dog have completed puppy level one and two, adult level two, and the AKC canine good Citizen's class each class lasting six weeks. Leia was very attentive in each class and genuinely interested in our triumphs and struggles. She made time to ask each of us how our weeks went with training and if we had concerns. Even if we brought up an issue that wasn't typically covered in our current class, she gave us ideas and advise on how to teach something, or correct something. She studies canine behavior in college so she was a great tool for understanding why our dogs may behave in certain ways, and what we as owners could do to encourage positive responses. She also trained me as much as she did the dog! She pointed out things I would have never noticed about my own style or routine, gave positive tips and explanations, making me a better trainer to my dog. I love that she is mostly hands off. When teaching she will show us things but ultimately she wants us to be the one that teaches our dog. As a veterinarian, I know how huge this is for building a relationship with you dog. I spent approximately $400-$500 in four classes each lasting 6 weeks. Truly money we'll spent. My dogs behavior, my knowledge base and our confidence thanks to Leia will make for many happy years together. While she is amazing, it should be understood she doesn't have a magic answer for everything. She teaches us the tools and we must practice with our dogs. For context we practice in public areas 4x weekly and between home and outings, we train 8-10 hours a week. I can't thank her enough for all the knowledge and help along this journey. I would highly recommend her and will definitely use her again when we add another puppy to our home. read more

I will NEVER go back to Petco. I've used Petco grooming for years and I couldn't be more disappointed with our experience at the Germantown Petco. I took my Golden Retriever in for a bath, deshedding treatment and a haircut. I left strict instructions to trim him down so that his hair is 1 1/2 inches long all over. When I can back to pick him up, he was COMPLETELY buzzed down to nothing. The grooming manager was unapologetic and told me "it was our first time here and we forgot to write down your instructions." ... If they were confused they should have called. Instead they disregarded all instructions and did whatever was easiest for them. Do NOT EVER go here! read more

If I could give a zero star I would. I ordered (1 codeage vitamin supplement for cats and 2 thunder diffuser refills) online (April 10, 2024), used a gift card and then paid the remainder on my credit card. Order said it would be here on April 18, 2024... doesn't show up. I keep going to tracking to see it never updated (which happens), but then I check today and still no update, package not picked up.. UPS or FedEx can't give me any info. I reach out to customer service and the agent tells me the order was packaged, but the carrier NEVER picked it up and she's sorry, this never happens. So I can either accept a refund or replacements.. I NEED the items for senior cats I foster and then for the puppies coming in. So she places a replacement order and ends the chat. I realize the shipping will take another 2 weeks; I can't wait that long for the supplements, I reach back out again and say just ship the plug-ins, then I'm told the plug-ins I want are no longer in stock and I can't get them. Awesome, so I tell them just cancel everything and refund me. Issue.. I used a gift card so I need that refunded, I don't have the GC number anymore so he will send an egc (e-Gift Card). I look back online and I need to order back-ups, I reach back out for the egc and it hadn't been processed... I don't know what's going on, but I will never deal with Petco again. TERRIBLE read more

i got my hamster 4 days ago, it is now dead. i'm so beyond upset. because wtf. The hamster had water, warmth, food, a home, and a wheel. what else was i supposed to do? I would let him rome around in his ball for hours. what else could i have done? i dont think anything. i have a 30 day return policy, that is what they told me. so i am hoping they improve with that. i dont know if the hamster was ill or had a disease or something or not. i dont know, but that shouldn't be something i have to worry about. they should test their animals before they sell them. i am very upset about this. read more

Petco Grooming at the Germantown location lost another customer today. In my opinion these people should be charged with animal cruelty. I wish I remembered the managers name that told me because of my dogs age (14.5 years old) she would need to stand for 4-5 hours for her appt. WHAT! I told her that she just got her hair shampooed and cut in June and like every other appt. she has had, it was under 3 hrs. Her reply was that is how Devonte works and sets up his schedule. As a manager, you allow that?? No dog should have to stand for 4-5 hrs while a groomer works on multi dogs, much less a dog that is 14 years old. I purchased almost $300 of new puppy supplies just before Christmas of 2020, and we ended up not getting the dog. When I went to return the items with the receipt a few weeks later I was told they are not accepting returns at that moment, during the height of Covid, and that I should wait to return them later. I went in with the receipt and items again yesterday and was told they do not take returns over a year later....?!?! So basically they conveniently cite policy and excuses when you try to return anything, and stick you with the untouched items. It's all around bad business. We're fairly new to utilizing Petco in Germantown for our needs and it's not going to last long. From employees providing incorrect quantities in stock and simply lying about even checking to the horrible customer service. If you are going to offer curbside pickup it's probably best to have employees not too lazy to walk to the curb line or even outside. Especially after waiting and then walking inside to see multiple employees hanging out while there's a line of customers and already acknowledging the delivery has been made to avoid further contact through the app. 10/10 wouldn't recommend these lazy employees. read more

This Petco store is always well stocked, clean and attractive. The help is friendly and helpful, and they obviously love animals. It's not unusual to go in on a Saturday and have several dogs roaming the aisles. In fact, it's nice that they take their humans to Petco to go shopping with them. There is a frequent buyer loyalty program that results in discounts. They offer cat litter and dog treats in bulk, sold by the pound. Pet foods of all kinds, canned and dry, are available in a wide range of sizes. There is a wide variety and assortment of pet toys for most types of pets. They stock a wide variety of crates, beds, cages, collars, leads, dishes and just about anything you can think of that you pet may need. My biggest complaint, in fact, probably my only complaint, is that the shopping carts are in bad shape. Wheels are squeaky and badly worn, making the carts difficult to push and navigate through the aisles. Otherwise, this is a fine place to shop for your pets, a one-stop location for everything you need. read more

Do not EVER bring your dog here to be groomed. The first time we brought our American Bulldog here she had gotten a bath, nail trim, and ear clean. The first time was fine. They did what they said they were going to do and everything was fine, not stellar, just fine. We took her a second time on 2/7/22. I dropped her off and they said they'd call when she had about 15 minutes left. They called when she was completely done so I rushed over. When I got there they told me they could only trim the nails on one foot because she was getting "too mouthy", but said they brushed her teeth instead. I have a number of problems with this: 1. The groomer we had last time clipped her nails just fine. So what was different this time? I feel that because she looks like a pit bull it was breed discrimination on the part of whichever groomer she had. If she was truly being too mouthy to finish clipping her nails because it made the tech feel unsafe, then why did they feel it was safe enough to stick their hand in her mouth to brush her teeth. Not too mention she's only 9 months old. All 9 month old puppies are mouthy because that's how they figure the world out. If it was a different breed getting mouthy I feel the response would have been different. Instead of it being "unsafe" they would have called it as it was. A puppy being a puppy. 2. I did not authorize them to brush my dogs teeth. No where on the consent form did I sign to consent to them brushing her teeth which would involve her ingesting a substance. I do not know what they used. I only know it made her throw up when we got home and she is not the type of dog to regurgitate much of anything...ever. 3. and most import. We specifically took her in for a bath for the nail trim. She's a short haired dog. If all we needed was the bath I could have done that at home instead of paying $40 for it. When I brought her in I had to initial and sign a paper stating what I was requesting (bath, nail trim, ear clean as stated above). After finding out that they weren't able to complete the service I was requesting they did nothing to try to make it right. I explained to them the only reason I brought her in instead of bathing her at home was for the nail trim. They dismissed this and said again that they brushed her teeth instead. Which I then argued that we did not request that service, the nail trim is what we really needed. They essentially said "oh well go pay". To not even offer a discount for the service they did not perform is one of the most unprofessional things I've ever seen. If I take my car for an oil change and all they do is refill the window washer fluid there is a major issue. If I order something online and they only send me half the order while charging for the full order there is a major issue. The same concept applies here. They only did part of the service I asked for yet charged me for the full service. With all of this in mind my fiancé called the Germantown Petco to complain. He explained the points above to the manager who's response was "we'll give you a refund, but your dog is not allowed back here". We had no intention of returning anyway, but it's the principle of the matter. I don't know what business model they follow, but this is completely absurd. To turn away a customer because the business messed up and were unwilling to make it right is absolutely ridiculous. If they had done everything they could to make the situation right we may have continued paying to use their services or other services they offer. If they had done everything they could to make it right I certainly wouldn't be posting this review and I certainly wouldn't be spreading this situation to all of my other dog owning friends, many of who, utilize their services as well. Moral of the story is their services are not worth your money. You're better off elsewhere as, apparently, trusting your animal with them is a gamble. They may or may not do what you're paying for and they may or may not do other things with your animal that you did not consent to. read more

Never go there!!!! I took my dog there 1/26/2022, based on my reservation it was $49 for grooming and $2.99 for materials. My dog hair was matted so I knew they were going to have to cut her hair low. After 2 hours, the groomer called to tell me "he couldn't finish because my dog was snappy after her hair cut, and he did everything except go over her one more time." When I went to checkout it was $54 for grooming, and they charged $14 for matted hair. If she was cut almost bald, what is the matted hair charge? When I got her home, I see poop by her butt, there's no way you gave her a bath. Most groomers have scented shampoo or something that let's you know your dog was clean, my dog had her regular dog scent. The male groomer had the nerves to tell me I can come back for someone to finish what was not done, if I was not happy, why would I bring her back? I will be contacting to corporate and I will never go back. read more

This is one of the only places that has a wide variety of guinea pig items, that being the only reason I shop here. Every time I shop here the place looks a mess and unorganized, racks of random items on display (I thought they were clearance racks or something, nope! Just random racks with random items). The floor looks messy and dirty; really just not cared for. I know there's animals that come in the store but they can still clean the floors at close, just a quick mop helps. And the biggest reason for my one star review is the customer service. The floor staff is usually nice but the cashiers there just make you feel stupid. Especially about their rewards system. Everytime (besides the first time) I go to checkout the girls there are rude and don't offer good customer service. Even a simple "hello" when you walk through the door, or a "how are you today" can change my experience at the store. read more

While shopping I unexpectedly fell in love with a cat that I wanted to adopt. I came back the next day to fill out an adoption application and was told they would fax the application over to haws and that I should call haws Monday morning. When I called haws they said they never received my application. I called petco and was told they would resend fax my application. Fast forward to that afternoon and haws said they too had called petco as well and were told their fax machine was not working. Haws asked them to email my adoption application and petco never emailed the application. So I had to come to haws on Tuesday to fill out a new adoption application. I'm glad a was able to adopt my fur baby; however I found the experience to be unprofessional on petco's end. read more

I have been taking my dogs to the grooming salon for many years because of a recommendation from a friend. Liz is the one that grooms my dog Watson and she is the best!!! She is so kind to the pets and Watson always looks great when he leaves. She doesn't hurry through and is so accommodating when I need to change or add an appointment. Would highly recommend Liz in the grooming salon. The store is very busy so sometimes is out of what I am looking for. No worries when that happens, the staff can order online and get it delivered to my home in a couple of days. The staff in the store are really friendly and kind, to humans and animals alike. Would recommend this store for sure! read more

My dogs and I generally love the pedicures the groomers at Petco do for them. I always give 5 stars and a tip. I don't get scratched, and they don't get hurt. Unfortunately, a newer groomer ruined a perfect record. After over a year of great treatment the groomer had several mishaps. Quicking happens, although that's why I like the dremeling at the end. My old dog, who is a retired show dog and well used to getting handled, was quicked. The egregious happened when my dogs' (Springer spaniels) feathering got caught in the dremel. Two of the dogs, one my year old, and the other his 6.5 year old mom. Worse, I was doing the finish grooming and found a literal knot (as in loop with hair pulled through in a square knot) in her tail feathers that took me a while to remove. I'm not stopping going, but I won't be returning to that groomer. read more

The woman did not do a good job of cutting his nails and put a laceration/cut on the right side of his face, right near his eye. He was bleeding and need to watch now so he does not get an infection. The bathroom was so dirty and the store was not well managed. Find some where else to take your pet to be groomed. I heard this about Petco before and I gave them a chance. I wish I would have not. Bailey has been going to Petco for about 9yrs. The groomers are all very nice and gentle with the dogs.Bailey is now entering her senior years and her groomer is very loving and takes into account Bailey's special needs. She has a floppy flap in her throat and makes snorking noises. She is gentle with her and makes sure she isn't stressed while she's getting groomed. I would highly recommend their grooming service. read more

Do not go here if you need 'feeder' animals. They price them the same as if they are 'pets' and make you sign their animal adoption forms. They are incredibly expensive as compared to other pet stores. I just needed a mouse to feed my snake - $5 later.... Pet World sells feeder mice for half that price. read more

We have been using their groomers for years and have been very satisfied with their work on our Golden Retriever. Plus, the groomers are always so nice and polite. The price for grooming is very reasonable. We now have a German Shepherd that will also be groomed by them. read more

I like this store, it's convenient & nearly all the employees are helpful and courteous. I have many pets, so I am a regular customer. But one of their managers is often unnecessarily rude. Recently it was negative enough for me to come here to leave this comment. I don't know his name, but this particular manager was responding to a cashier dealing with an email discount/coupon question. The manager didn't hear the problem or didn't listen, and he repeated the wrong instructions a few times in a row. When I commented that he wasn't listening, he laughed at me and walked away. Another manager had to come up to the register to help. She apologized for him, and she had things taken care of in all of 2 minutes. Not the first time the other manager was rude in front of me or other customers. But I still give 4 stars because of the other employees who have to make up for that guy, they probably deal with it regularly & I feel bad for them. read more

Usually really like this location, I'll come here over the one that's much closer to my house, but I'm a little disappointed after my last visit. I came in and picked up a nice new pump/filter unit for the tank I keep my Red Ear Slider Turtles around Christmas. When it came time to get new filter substrates (the foam pads) earlier this month I find out through the website for ZooMed (a brand I've always trusted for my reptile care needs) that the unit I purchased is discontinued, making it rather difficult to find the replacement parts. Why sell units when people won't be able to get their hands on the replaceable parts, that need to be replaced for cleanliness and functional reasons? Still like this location, but rather annoyed by this inconvenience. read more

Very displeased with the grooming job they did on my two dog's. Due to Covid-19, they were unable to get groomed until yesterday. Both my dog's are ShihSzu/Bichon mixes. When we picked them up, both dog's were shaved down to their skin. One dog who has white hair was shaven down so much, that you could see her pink skin. I understand they may have been matted, but really? I've never had my dog's look like this, even if they were matted. We brush our dog's everyday. We also paid a large up charge of almost $30 for each dog. I call that robbery! I read an article from PETA, how these chains like Petco and Petsmart hire unexperiened groomer's and don't care about the pet's they groom and are just in it for the money. Shaving a dog so close to the skin is bad for the dog and create all kinds of problem's for them. I'm a dog and animal lover and suggest you not patronize these places.
