    Dog attack #1
    David T.

I've had my sweet girl Chelsea coming here since October. She is a loving 12 years old, 18lb. Chihuahua/Terrier Mix. Three months ago, she was attacked by a big dog at Central Bark, and part of her ear was bitten off!!!! WARNING: Small dogs and big dogs are mixed together on Saturdays. Something I vehemently oppose and you should too! I see the damage to my dogs ear every day and am sad. I think perhaps they should have been wiser about their decisions. They claim they are, but I disagree. The owner didn't think it was wrong to mix small dogs and large dogs together. My dog paid the price. The owner did not. They got paid to take care of her. The attack dog owner did not have to help pay for Chelsea's medical bills, and Central Bark did not offer either. I never felt any "true" concern for my dogs well being. Through the entire conversation I had over this ordeal with the Central Bark owner, he did not ask once how my dog was doing. I had to call him out on it. Then last month, my dog was attacked again and bitten deeply in the stomach area. I waited and prayed my dog would be ok. She was in surgery for 2 hours. And I was gutted. All I can think about to keep my composure was to write this and warn you. NOTE: I never received a phone call from the Central Bark owner for this attack...no checking to see how Chelsea was doing, no concern for her welfare or mine, no caring whatsoever. It is all business there...money and no concern or taking responsibility. What a horrible way to run a business. The 2nd attack dog owner did not have to help pay for Chelsea's medical bills, and Central Bark did not offer either. These are all the reasons I will never bring my loving dog, my best friend, my companion to this daycare or any other owned by this man. I am writing to share my thoughts and make sure you think twice about Central Bark, your small dog and dog daycare there. For 7 years prior, my dog went to dog daycare with about 25 other small dogs in California. Not once was she attacked, not once was she injured. I moved to Wisconsin last year and I thought I had chosen a good dog daycare, but I made a mistake. A mistake that cost me dearly. I honestly think my dog Chelsea is not the same since the surgery. My one star is to give some nice remarks to several of the staff who love Chelsea and treated her with love (they get 5 stars). I thank you. What bothers me the most is that these two different dogs are still allowed to go to this daycare. When it comes to it, Central Bark's policies are flawed. Offering aggressive dogs second chances only means YOUR DOG COULD BE NEXT... Think wisely.

The transition into our home was smooth, and he acclimated quickly. He's got a great temperament and has already become apart of our family. One thing we really appreciated was the opportunity for meet-and-greet visits before bringing our "Knox" home. Being able to spend time with him ahead of pickup showed transparency and afforded us real confidence in both Laura as the breeder and the environment the kittens are raised in. When I arrived at the agreed time, no one answered the door or the phone. I ended up having to flag down her boyfriend when he came outside to grab a package so I could even get someone's attention. Once inside, the house was very dirty, which immediately raised concerns for me. The breeder then brought out the kitten I was supposed to take home, and it was clearly sick. Her mother admitted they already knew the kitten had not been keeping food down for about a week and a half. I had originally been scheduled to pick up the kitten earlier but had to postpone, which makes me think the kitten may have appeared healthy when I first would have picked it up and then gotten sick shortly after bringing it home. After this experience, I did more research and found multiple complaints online from people reporting ringworm coming from this cattery, which can be a huge ordeal to deal with. To be fair, the breeder did return my deposit when I declined to take the kitten, but the overall situation was extremely concerning and not what I would expect from a responsible breeder.

I trended the first group training session which consisted of exercises of slamming a door on your dog's head to keep them from trying to run through as well as using your knee to keep your dog from jumping up on you when they see you. During the session as we were waiting for an opportunity to practice slamming our dog's head in a door, the owner Amy Ammon singled me out (from pop a line of 15 people), approached me and in one of the most condescending interactions I've ever had with another human being berated me and said, "no one is going to do this for you." Yes, Amy. I'm fat and when I take my dog for a walk (or training), I generally don't wear a business suit or even Lulu Lemon athleisure. I'm sorry if my comportment is detestable for you. But you clearly need professional psychological help and have exactly zero business running an animal training facility. Needless to say I did not return for any addition sessions. When I asked for a refund they refused to give me even a prorated refund citing that I was clearly an unfit pet owner. Please for the sake of humanity, the universe, and your pet's, NEVER patronize this establishment.

I last trained this past summer and continue to use email and text for advice and guidance. Amy will help you get the best success from your dog according to their demeanor, behaviors and training needs. Treats can be used however, it's the trainer's choice and not necessary. What I love is that the dogs are trained with positive praise and reinforcement rather than treats if desired. They learn to respond to your voice and reward of attention rather than being tied to a bag of treats. Corrective collars are used when recommended but not required and not cruel or used for punishment. They are just that. Corrective, a reminder and help with communication. Amy explains and instructs on behaviors and rationale behind the dogs behavior which help you understand your dogs motives and needs more. She really spends individual time with real time feedback to clients. During each class, you will be working with your dog along side others the entire time with short instructions/demonstrations from Amy which means you get more real time working with your pup rather than listening to lengthy instructions and little time to work. I've really enjoyed the classes and have had great results. We tend to take hour dogs with us on many occasions, out to dinner, camping, parks, events and hotels and get much attention from others on how well behaved and comfortable the dogs are in their environment. Kids and adults alike may approach them as well as other dogs, even crabby ones on occasion and they are nonreactive and friendly. I will continue to train every year to keep the dogs engaged! I highly recommend amiable dog training to beginners and advanced as well. I also recommend for a consult for specific behaviors and wellness. Thank you Amiable Dog training for all you do!
