I brought Princess Leia and Lalo to the Petco at 5th and Alton, and they each had their own moment. Lalo went in for a nail trim and came out looking so proud of himself that I joked he might start offering grooming tips. He was calm and happy, and it was nice to see. Princess Leia needed a little more help that day. She was pretty knotty and they did have to take off more hair than I hoped. One of the groomers explained that sometimes that much hair comes off when the knots are deep, and I appreciated the honesty. We were nervous about the idea of shaving her completely, since we really wanted to keep her looking like herself. That's when Dolores stepped in and saved the day. She said she'd work through Leia's knots even if it took a long time. And she really meant it. She spent almost two hours gently working everything out. Leia came out looking sweet and fluffy again, and I was so grateful for the care and patience Dolores gave her. It felt like she went above and beyond for us. Since we live close by, we'll keep coming back for the little things like nail trims. I'm hoping each visit gets even smoother as the team gets to know both Leia and Lalo better. read more

Be aware of additional service charges. If you declined them they won't take your dog. I brought my puppy there, the website game on price and when I got when I was checking in my dog, they gave me a bill I had to sign it and it had additional services there. I said no I don't want them and they said everyone has to pay additional charges or they won't accept your dog if you don't. We scheduled a grooming appointment for today at 10 AM with Hector on Monday. We put our cat in her carrier, we got in an Uber, schlepped down there, only to be told that all appointments had been rescheduled as the groomer had called out-- and that ours was for Friday the 22nd. No call, no notice. The receptionist was frankly very snarky about it, as though we had inconvienced her. She complained about the cat making her allergic, on and on. (This is my "I dont care face." Dont work in a pet store.) We have been bringing our cat in for grooming there for five months now. I wouldnt say it was always the most organized place but at least they were friendly. Its disconcerting when people try to cover their mistakes with attitude. She didnt ever apoligize. Oh, and the clerk who rang us up for kibble and wet food couldnt even transact a cash sale. My chihauhua faced age discrimination in this store at 14 1/2 years old. Frankie (the grooming manager) and Gloria (the store manager) are some of the most deplorable people I have ever seen making decisions for pets. This 1-star review is an update to the 5-star reviews I left for this same store in 2012 & 2013. The only difference is my pets are older - and they clearly have some problems with servicing older pets. I brought my chihauhau in today for grooming. I saw the groomers were still there in the afternoon so I asked the groomer if he could groom my chihauhau for the summer that afternoon (she's a long haired chihauhau and she's cooler when they cut or buzz her coat). He said he could bathe and groom her that afternoon and I only needed her paperwork that showed she had her rabies vaccine. I told him I could return with this in 30 minutes and he said okay. I ran home and got my dog, then I ran to the vet on West Ave and got her vaccine records, and made it back to the store within 30 minutes as promised. There, they made me wait 10-15 minutes while they denied another customer a grooming for her equally small dog claiming at 4 months it was too young - so they were only going to do the fraction of the grooming she had asked for even though the dog clearly needed it. While he was denying the other customer's grooming, he asked if my chihauhau was a puppy and I told him no, she's an old lady who has a heart murmur and is blind - but she's perfectly healthy for grooming and she always enjoys it. So he made me wait longer, and then Frankie the grooming manager came out and said they were not going to groom my dog because I told them she has a heart murmur. I told them that's nuts given half of the senior dogs they groom would have heart murmurs. So, Frankie's response to this was to ask me how many heart murmurs my dog has. Truly - he asked me the number of heart murmurs my dog has. Frankie knows nothing about the medical condition - even after I told him heart murmurs are classified by a grade - not a number that you count like a heart-beat or blood pressure, etc. All Frankie wanted to do was deny my "old" dog's grooming. It was then suggested by Frankie, the groomer and the store manager to call my vet. So we did call my vet, and on speaker phone, my vet got on the phone and said the EXACT same thing I did - she's simply an old girl but perfectly acceptable to groom. So even though they got my vet on the phone to ask permission, and my vet gave permission - THEY STILL DENIED THE GROOMING. I then told them if they were worried about an old dog dying during the grooming service, I would sign a DNR and waiver of liability in the event of death. I told them nothing would make me happier than to know if my dog was to die, it was while she was at the "spa" being groomed. Even this wasn't good enough - they simply denied my old dog their grooming service because she's old - even after my vet said it was okay the very second they asked for the medical opinion - a medical opinion they say they wanted/needed and then ignored. So in the end, it's apparent that this store MAY only groom your dog if it's between 1-7 years old. They should be more clear about that upfront and make it part of their signage and advertising - because they'll make you jump through hoops such as wait excessive periods of time while they help others, make you get vet records, want to speak with your vet on the phone even with the written records - and then still deny you after jumping through all of their hoops. I think they just wanted me to fail at something so they could say that I was the reason they were denying service to an old dog. But seeing I perfectly provided EVERYTHING they asked for and more - they showed that they are truly DISCRIMINATING AGAINST OLDER PETS AND HAVE A SHAMEFUL BUSINESS PRACTICE FOR DOING SO. I will now drive across the bridge to their competitor and spend twice to 3x the amount of time getting pet supplies as a South Beach resident so I do not have to support such incompetent management. I understand Gloria's support of her groomer who was clearly uneducated and incompetent - but I equally blame her for employing staff who discriminate against pets with senior health conditions. Could regional please reach out to me once you have competent management and feel like serving geriatric animals so I can come back? Pets do get old and I'm not going to euthanize them and get younger so that your STUPID staff can feel more comfortable in servicing them. Thank you. read more

They have a variety of foods and an assortment of toys, leashes, food bowls, etc. I usually come in to pick up some supples for my business or toys for my dog and cats. Here is the deal every month they offer shots for your dogs for really cheap ! It is usually from 4-5 p.m. It is a vet and they do probably around 20-30 dogs each time. You basically wait in a line, and they have different packages of shots. I got all my dogs shots for $65.00. That is really cheap I have been going now for 3 years. It is a veternarian she happens to be really nice. I am so sick of vets riping me off. My dog had a cold oneday so I took him to a vet on Miami Beach. Well, the vet said he has a cold and like a child colds go away without medication. Geeze thanks buddy I had to pay you $125 office visit for you to tell me what I told you. That my dog had a cold. It's strange when you walk into a store and you feel like no one is actually working there because you don't see any employees. This place is exactly like that. The first time I went I felt like I would be able to hear an echo if I called out for help. That being said, it's conveniently located and I was excited when they opened up a pet place so close that carried the food I fed my dog at the time. Since I no longer feed her with a brand they carry there, I have no reason to go there and get passed around by the employees like a hackey sack when it comes to paying for my goods. The staff members are always helpful and kind. But the managers are mean and not helpful. I returned a item recently that broke because it was poor quality and looked up the reviews online and of course they were all negative. This is a good location, the employees for the most part are helpful; a little uneducated about certain products but nice. The reason that I come back to this location is the convenience factor, as it's on my way a lot of times and because they are great with returns. I once bought a bag of dog food here, brought it home and a week later discovered that was what was making my dogs sick. I called them and they let me bring it back and gave me a full refund even though the bag was half full. The worst service other. I went in there 2 days ago to speak with a groomer about possibly getting a cut for my dog as I was concerned about them keeping him in the same style and not giving him a traditional Poodle cut. After reassuring me I made an appointment and spoke with the specific groomer i was going to be with. I took the morning off work today to bring him in. When I arrived there was no one at the counter. I waited 10 min and then finally a different groomer came out to tell me the other groomer had an emergency and couldn't come in. I was shocked. Not even a phone call to let me know. His response,... I don't think he was thinking of you during the emergency. Are you serious? I don't expect a call from him I expect one from the business. My appointment was at 1030 and they opened at 9am so plenty of time to call the customer and let them know they need to cancel the appointment. So then I asked if he is capable of doing what the other groomer spoke to me about and he has the nerve to tell me yes but you will need to wait until 1pm. I once again ask why they wouldn't call ahead of time and he claims he wasn't aware. What kind of business is this? They now expect me to go home then call off from work for the rest of the afternoon bc they don't have the decency to call and alert the customer they need to change their appointment. No remorse, no sorry, it was absurd. This guy should be working away from all people as he has no people skills and Petco should be appalled they allow their grooming department to be run this way. I had been using this store since it opened as it was in my neighborhood but will never step foot there again. I had been happy to use their refillable containers for cat litter. They changed prices, rules & it looked like a different staff, not very friendly today. Continuously the worst experiences. 1) Staff refuses to honor petco coupons, particularly the 8th groom free. I had the barcode on my phone and the staff checking me out said it doesn't apply because the store doesn't honor it - the coupon expired a few days later. 2) Grooming appointments are routinely cancelled. Doesn't matter if you have an appointment or for how long you've had it - these people will cancel with five minutes notice, not honor your appointment, and won't even offer to reschedule. I have had three appointments cancelled with absolutely zero consideration from the staff. I understand that things happen, people get sick, etc. However two out of three times they told me the day of the appointment that the groomer was on vacation. And still no offer from them to reschedule - most of the time notice comes through a text. If you would like any sort of reliability in terms of service, go somewhere else. If this store wasn't conveniently located it would have gone out of business years ago. read more
