My husband and I made a quick stop to the Petco in Nampa, Idaho to purchase some cat food for our daughter's cat that we are sitting for while she and her family are out of town. I needed to use the restroom while there. If the cleanliness of a restroom is any indication on how well the rest of the store is, I would have to come to the conclusion that this store wouldn't be a good place to take your pet for anything related to health and grooming!!!! Took my dog in for grooming. i usually go to pet smart but decide to give petco a try since pet smart was fully booked. it's been 4 days since his grooming appointment and he had shakes non stopped. he's potty trained but has started peeing all over the house and has now started throwing up. i dont know what they did to my poor dog or what they might've given him but if you care about your dog do not take them here!! read more

I took pity on a Beta that was most assuredly going to die a terrible death in their care, probably in a few days judging by his condition. I am guessing by the looks of all of their Betas, they plan on a 50% mortality rate. Taking a fish out of a building into bright sun can put them into shock, so I asked for a bag to put him in. I cannot believe they actually insisted on charging me 10 cents for a plastic bag. I purchased over $70 of items and you are charging me me for a bag to try to keep this fish from dying in the parking lot? What losers. Today I went in to buy dog food. I come here often to buy fish and dog supplies. We got excited to see they were having bunny adoptions today, and I wanted to let a friend of mine who loves rabbits know about it. I was greeted in a very rude matter when I was making friendly conversation about the rabbits. I then see they have so many new chameleons and my husband loves chameleons so I snap a photo to show him since he wasn't with me there. I'm told by a employee I'm not allowed to take videos and then she awkwardly stood there staring at me with another employee after I apologized and put my phone away. I felt like I was being treated as if I was a teenage child when in fact I'm a nearly 30 year old woman going about her day and purchasing dog food. who ever is reading this DO NOT take your dog to get groomed by LOREN she did an absolute HORRIBLE job when i say horrible it was insane how poorly the job was done on my dog not to mention she made cuts on my dogs private parts and did not report it petcos policy is if the groomer cuts the dog they have to take them to the veterinarian. To top all this off my dogs bowl movements are completely bloody. If this was caused by stress i can't even believe what she had to do to my dog for him to be so stressed when hes been to the groomer 4-5 different times and has never had incidents like this much less have i ever seen any other dog have blood in their stool from a groomer. read more

Apparently petco uses doordash drivers who are challenged when it comes to technology. Ordered a gate to be delivered. First time says delivered and according to the map to address on 14th Ave north rather than 14th Ave South. They re did the order. New order delivered to 14th Ave north again. Now refusing to cancel order since doordash map clearly shows wrong door and wrong place on what looks like Google maps. If I could give 0 stars I would. I asked them to cancel the order and I would just pick it up at the store since apparently the driver can't tell north from south. Terrible service. On another note, I do wish Petco would stock more of popular items instead of making customers show up on Tuesdays when a new shipment is stocked. I am so unbelievably mad at this store. I've had several problems when it came to both customer service and their products. Number one) i brought a bearded dragon there a month ago, which she ended up having tons of problems. i had the right set up for her, uvb, temperature, etc, and she was still refusing to eat and drink water. i returned her the first time, and they told me that she had a deficiency. i ended up spending 60$ on a new uvb set up for her, which only helped for a day then she ended up having problems again. the second time i returned her, they tried to say that the temperature in her tank was "too low" but i had temperatures at that time and each time it was 100 degrees, and when i would put it higher or lower she would all the sudden seize. they just blamed me, and then put the return charge onto a gift card. she ended up passing away in there and they didn't call to inform me until 3 days later. then they told me since they put my money onto a gift card, they couldn't refund the money back into my debit card. i called the customer support, they told me the store should be able to do something about it. i called the store and they proceeded to tell me "well since you chose to put it onto a gift card, we cannot give back the money" even though i didn't agree, the lady there put it back onto there. Number two) i've had several problems with their bug quality. after the bearded dragon incident, i didn't t want to continue to support their shitty business. but i also don't want the card to go to waste. it was 52$ that was on there. so i ended up purchasing bugs for my gecko, which guess what? they were all dead. i brought a 100 pack of mealworms for them all to be dead. and i already know i cannot get the money back cause i used the gift card. i've also brought their roaches, which they all end up dying right when i get home. along with their crickets. the only bug i can actually purchase is their super worms. i am unbelievably pissed at this store. i've been struggling with money for months now and 52$ helps more than 0$. they abuse their animals, sell sick animals, do not warn the owners, then they gaslight the owners when they die and blame it onto them instead of actually taking the correct steps to save the animal and warn the person of the risks. then they rob the money and i am now forced to continue to support their store. read more

My mom and I were just at this location looking for dog stuff. Naturally we had to look at all the critters. Being a dart frog owner, I was disappointed with what I saw. There was one frog left in normally a mixed frog enclosure (strike one) that was lying in its water dish dead. It was very young, skinny, and according to the temperature and humidity gauge, was at 80 degrees and 40% humidity. Absolutely unacceptable. The following is the reason we will never shop at Petco again, after many years of being customers, we are done!! A month ago, we traveled down to Boise, an hour and a half away for us, to get our dog a brush to take care of her undercoat since she was shedding so badly. Your employee recommended two different ones. So, since we live so far away, I bought one of each planning to use the one he most highly suggested, but having the other as a back up in case the first one didn't work. With gas prices being what they are it made sense so that we would have one that would work and he told me that I could return one if I kept the receipt. So on our next trip down (today) I went to return the unused one, WITH THE RECEIPT, and was told that I was a couple of days out of date to return. I explained that we only drove down once a month and this was our first chance to get there...a couple of days past the 30 days. The Manager called the customer service line to see if an exception could be made and it didn't take long for them to simply say 'NO!" While she was at the register calling, she is talking to her employee explaining that what she was doing (calling customer service) was not something that he should do because it would take away from the other customers in the store...I WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE! Both this time & last. She then tells me that she might be able to finagle the system, but she'd have to copy my license and I would go into a national registry for tracking theft. EXCUSE ME?! hy the heck would I agree to that?! I paid for this item, was told that if needed I could return it, and then told I could be treated like a thief. Big corporate policies is what is wrong with much of our nation, no customer service, no manager discretion, no common sense!! Side note: I wrote corporate when I got home and their response was as expected, they dismissed me and basically told me to not let the door hit me in the @$$. She must've been the manager because she knew every single fish in the store and took the time to help me even though she was helping 5 other people. As a foster to animals I buy and return things for the foster animals needs. Today I was trying to return 3 (never used, still sold there) items and in turn purchase/exchange for other items I needed. Unfortunately I was mansplained by the manager Seanpaul that I must have a receipt and he recited the 30 day policy so incredibly rudely to me that as I tried to explain the situation the conversation got louder. Looking back HE didn't know if I had purchased these items within 30 days or not.. I didn't have a receipt. He was so hellbent mansplaining the receipt portion he couldn't get off the box. Came here for dog food and greenies and left with those two items. I didn't stop to look at the fish or other animals they carry so I am not sure how they were being treated. Only concern I had was when I was checking out a manager came up and started asking the checker questions about a guinea pig that was returned. She wanted to know why he didn't get some information such as the sex and how important it is. She was very nice when asking and I understand it's important to educate but there is a time and place. The quality of pet foods they carry is outstanding now - all natural ingredients only and top quality brands and at prices significantly below PetSmart's! FreshPet Vital was almost half the price that I had just paid at PetSmart the day before, and the 15# bag of Royal Canin Mini Puppy that I paid $42 at PetSmart was only $36 at Petco the next day. The staff at Petco in Nampa were all friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, and seemed to genuinely love their jobs too. I raise and breed Maltese so I'm always hunting the best quality and value for my dogs, so I'm delighted to shop at Petco from now on. What a change for the better! read more

I took my shih tzu in for a grooming and she was very choppy like a child had tried grooming her. I walked out to the car then decided I paid way to much to get a bad hair cut so I asked the groomer (older lady) that she be regroomed. They did, no problem, so that was good. Later I took our other dog (not a shih tzu) and she was choppy too. Never again will I take them there. P.S. our dogs are very docile. read more

The manager at the Nampa, ID. store is very rude and has very poor customer service skills. I went to get the Multi-cat comfort zone diffusers. They usually match their online price, which they quit for awhile. They had buy one get one free. When i brought two of them up he said he would not match the online price, but I would still be getting them for the same price with buy one, get one free. I explained to him I did not want to spend $60 today and would only take one. He continued to argue with me saying buy two and you get the same price. He did eventually match the online price of $30 instead of $59.99. When I gave him a manufacturers coupon for $10 off he said it cannot be used with the online price, but he would do it this one time. The store gets reimbursed for these coupons. I have gone into the Boise store when they had buy one, get one free and they gave me the online price, the free one and took the coupons in the past with no problem. I will not shop the Nampa store ever again and may not shop Petco if this continues. read more

My wife called in Thursday (July 6) at 8am to schedule an appointment for one of our dogs. The appt was set for 1pm on Sunday and my wife was reminded to make sure our furbaby was up to date on her shots. We called just now to see if we could add our other dog to the appt and were told they COULDN'T FIND OUR APPT!!! The gal argued with my wife after she told her our appt was for either 1:00 or 1:15. She very rudely claimed, "We DON'T schedule appointments for 1:15!" She further stated that if we did have an appt for Sunday, we'd be on their reminder call list. I have been shopping at Nampa Petco for over 1 yr now and have noticed their complete disregard for the care of the animals there. Especially the fish. They have maybe 1 caring and helpful customer service person there, great guy. The others are just plain rude, unhelpful, without knowledge and uncaring for the animals and fish! It's just so sickening, I left there after encountering the ignorance of the so called Manager Tracy. No customer service skill or concern for the health or welfare of the animals, I must say I was very disgusted by her. I wonder how people like that make their way as employees at a pet store. Sad for the animals.. I don't know if PetSmart is good or not but, I have to find a new store.. One that can help customers and have a shred of care for pets! If you are an aquarist and care about your fish at home don't go there for fish, most are dying and appear to be carrying disease.Its sad. I would recommend to go to Idaho Freshwater Aquariums or other LFS for healthy fish. read more
