I regularly take my dog to petco grooming. We've been going for years and I saw a new face the last time I came. Groomer was incredibly rude. She let me know when I picked up my dog if we weren't satisfied with her cut we can come in whenever the next day to get a trim. We noticed hair around her eye weren't cut very well and kept poking her so we came the next day and went in and she seemed insulted that we came back and gave us this big attitude. Groomers especially must enjoy working with dogs yet this groomer didn't seem like it and I feel very nervous leaving my dog at a place like this. read more

My nightmare with Petco began due to an online purchase. I had purchased a crate online because it was $60 cheaper on their site against their in store price and they had also offered free shipping. I stupidly bought their brand because it had glowing reviews. I have 2 70lb+ Dobermans. They are crate trained. I already had 2 crates, but I lost the part to one of them...the other was so huge (about 6' x 4') that both dogs could fit into it comfortably, stand and turn. I decided to purchase another crate so that they could each have their own. I purchased the largest size available. What a joke this crate was. It's flimsy, and cheap. We used it once. For 4 hours on Christmas. We returned home to find one dog in it's crate and the other one loose. The crate had fallen in on itself like a parallelogram, and the cheap plastic tray was shredded beyond recognition. I am fortunate and shocked that my dog survived. I was really really ticked. I returned the crate at this location because it was near some other errands that I was taking care of . The return process was a complete pain in the butt. I had all of the information handy, the receipt and return process printed from the website as well as the name of the cs person that I spoke to online. It should have been easy. I have also found the quality, selection and prices here not as good as Petsmart. Other than dog food, I have no use for the store credit. I have since spent 5 hours tearing apart my house to find the parts to my other crate. Thank God! read more

My dog came back from a grooming with 2 large cuts on his rear he was groomed by Ashley & she didn't even tell me she cut him! I took him home & over the course of 2 weeks these cuts turned to large scabs. My poor dog was so uncomfortable. I called the manager & he told me he knows the groomers are terrible but they can't fill those jobs. The groomers are rude and obviously not well trained. They should not be grooming dogs. They are horrible. terrible situation- after waiting 2 weeks for our scheduled appointment the manager called me to ask if I could pick up my dog, the groomer had to go home ill. I came in to find my dog waiting in the front of the store partially wet. Appointment was rescheduled for the next day- sunday came around and again the manager called to cancel. Later in the week I received a call from the groomer (who was very rude and snippy I may add, not apologetic at all)asking if I'd like to come in the following day, which happened to be July 4th, so I had to decline. My boyfriend gave me a puppy for my birthday. Not knowing anything about grooming, I went to the petsmart in Evanston for her first groom. The results were terrible! Not only did she look bad, but she was shaken up for days afterwards! I did not go back. I was shopping in Petco in skokie, and was helped by a girl who I later found out was the manager of the grooming department. She gave me great advice as far as how I can re-introduce Molly to grooming without the stress that she experienced before. Molly was in for a visit a few weeks ago, and she loved it there! All of the groomers were very nice, and Molly came out looking fabulous! Anyone who has had a dog with a bad experience with grooming should give these guys a try! read more

OK, so this is from a couple years ago, but this still bothers me to this day, so I am finally posting it. I have a VERY bad grooming experience in Feb. of 07 and I wrote a complaint to the store. They did not get back to me until JULY and when they did, they told me to call them!!!!! 5 Months to get back to a customer regarding a complaint???? We have used Petco grooming services to clip our dogs nails in the past? Today I brought my almost 14 year old greyhound in for a nail clipping. His rear legs are weak but we managed with difficulty to get this 70 pound dog into the car and into the store. The grooming manager was curt and would not clip his nails unless we had paperwork from the Vet confirming his recent rabies vaccination.. He had a 2015 rabies tag and our testimony that he was vaccinated in May but they required that the vet be called to verify the current vaccination. The manager of the grooming area said that it would be easy if we had gotten the shot in Petco. The Vet's office had closed, so we just took the poor creature back home. The store manager would not even come out to talk to us. What an inhumane way to treat our dog. I would never go back to Petco. read more

I am updating my review from "0" stars to 3.5 stars My issue was resolved shortly after I expressed my dissatisfaction on Petco's Facebook page, I would say all in all within one week from my initial contact. I posted on Petco's Facebook page and messaged them and they contacted me immediately. I spoke with a Petco corporate higher up the following day who said that I could keep the damaged cage that I had and do what I wished with it - whether it be return it or donate it to a shelter - and she sent me a brand new cage at no charge. She would have sent me a UPS call tag to have the cage picked up so I didn't have to do anything with it but she said that since the product was inexpensive the call tag would have just eaten the cost of the credit back to them. She also matched the current online price which was lower than my original order. She left me her contact information in case I needed to follow up if my replacement cage was also damaged. All in all, eventually everything turned out better for me than in my original situation, but I just wish that corporate stores would empower their employees and give them higher wages so they are encouraged to help customers and provide excellent service. This isn't just a Petco problem, but a problem with big box stores across the country. I just hate dealing with big box chain stores because even when they are approached with a reasonable and logical solution to a problem, they just shut you down and hope you swallow their answer, which forces you to persevere by going higher up the corporate chain and prolonging your frustration. I have never used their grooming services, so can't speak to that, so this is review to say that I think the staff here is great, so friendly! I have yet to meet one unhelpful salesperson and I am here a lot (we have lots of pets.) I am also impressed with how great the staff is to the cats up for adoption at the store. They really seem to care for and about them, and that is so nice to see. That alone makes me want to support this store. I will only shop at pet supply stores that help shelter animals and Petco certainly fulfills that requirement. read more

I am the type of shopper, who likes to take her time and stroll around looking at stuff. I do appreciate when employees acknowledge my presence and greets me with a smile. That's a plus. But what I don't like is when an employee watches my every move. I came in with my pup, and this one particular employee who's a older gentleman with dyed black hair...constantly kept coming over to me pushing me to buy Instinct Raw. I was not interested, nor did I even talk to him about what I feed my pup. He kept telling me he has coupons, I told him no thank you at least 4x. He walked away, then literally two min later he walks over and tried to make me get it again! Really?? The rest of my visit, I felt like he had nothing to do and would be everywhere I walked. So I don't care for that. If I need help with anything, I will ask you. But don't keep hounding me, and pressuring me to buy something I'm not interested in! This wasn't his first time doing this to me, this was my 2nd visit where he kept pushing me to buy it...not good. I do feed my pup raw, but I don't feed my dog that brand anyways. Wish I could give a zero! Here's the complaint I had send today, Wednesday, January 6th, 2015, to the FTC and San Diego BBB: -- Order# 26279030 - Inquiry Reference# 6508451 - Pals Rewards #511131560 Order was placed December 24th, 2015; about a week after the order shipped, I noticed that I could not track the order or retrieve any information about the order in their system. Saturday, January 2nd, is when I first requested a refund; I also contacted customer service via email on two separate occasions concerning this issue. I was told as recently as January 5th, that I would receive a confirmation notice about my refund being processed. I have yet to receive any such confirmation and neither of my customer service emails were replied to! Before requesting a refund, I called customer service twice to request a tracking number, since none was available in the system (order information disabled system-wide); each time I was given a tracking number that was not recognized by USPS! At that point, Saturday, January 2nd, I began to request a refund. I did receive a package on January 4th, left at my mailbox and moved by a neighbor (so I actually got the package on January 5th). The package was received severely damaged by USPS and was reconstructed with USPS tape. I have images. The package received contained two items (both damaged or missing items):1) The bag of dog food (reference order #) was split open with lots of food in bottom of box; not sure if it the food was handled or contaminated (have discarded). 2) I only received four (4) cans of Beef Dinner w/Garden Vegetables loose in the box (may have been stolen); box was completely crushed and re-constructed with tape, with a large opening in the box (please see attached images). There are several other items in my order that I have not received and cannot get shipping confirmation for from Petco. So, of course, I made my third refund request after receiving the damaged box, damaged and missing items. NOTE: The box contained a packing slip with another person's name and address. There was no packing slip in the box with my name and/or address. I have attached an image of the packing slip. It is obvious that their system is experiencing problems; and more obvious that my issue is intentionally being ignored. According to the promises I received of 24-48 hours for my refund to be processed and to receive notification accordingly, I should have received such processing and notification of my first refund request by January 5th (so I called again, January 5th, to request a refund for the third time). I'm filing this complaint because when called, January 6th, I was given the exact same dialog, as if I had never even requested a refund prior; I was also told that due to high level of refund request that my refund would be delayed. read more

This review is regarding Petco's grooming salon. First, it is incredibly difficult to schedule an appointment. Their grooming salon hours are much shorter than the store hours and appointments cannot be booked when the grooming salon is closed (e.g. when I call at 7 or 8 and the salon is closed, I'm SOL). I've had my dog groomed here twice and they've both been fine. I've also had two scheduled appointments cancelled at the last minute, the day of the appointments! I recently walked in and scheduled an appointment to have my dog groomed. Today, the day of the appointment, I get a call around 10am, informing me that their groomer didn't show up and they have to cancel my appointment. The said they had to cancel my 2pm appointment, (which was actually scheduled for 5pm). This is the second time this has happened and last time I received the call two hours before my appointment. They offered me a discount last time (like 10%) which was not worth it. I think it is completely unprofessional and the fact that this has happened to me twice is not okay. I schedule grooming appointments for my dog so I can go to other things (like a graduation this evening), which I will now have to either cancel if I cannot find someone to watch my dog. The grooming itself is fine, not great, sometimes the cuts can be uneven, but nothing terrible. I was going for the $20 promotion, but they'd have to offer a few free groomings for me to go back! I'm definitely going back to Petsmart, they have multiple groomers at once (so I don't have to worry about canceling), have flexible hours, they're open from 7am-9pm and Leo did a great job the last time I went. read more

This is the best Petco experience I have had. I made an appointment to get my dog groomed. The woman in the grooming salon was very friendly and welcomed my dog. I love my dog and stress over who I leave her with. They were so nice and excited to see my dog. Not to sound cheesy but literally gushing over my dog. It made me feel very comfortable to leave my dog with them. When I came to pick up my dog I came into the store to pick up a few treats. The cashier greeted me with a smile and I was asked by several different employees if I needed help. They are sooooooo friendly here. They helped me find what I needed. This is unlike any PETCO I have ever been too. The cashier was very friendly and asked me about my dog and myself. This is my new neighborhood pet store. read more
