This review is for the Petco on veterans parkway in Springfield IL. I always get amazing service here. The staff are busy, but attentive, and customers never go unnoticed. The store is always clean, we'll stocked, and faxed to look nice. I'd like to make a special mention to Randi, Kerry, and Jared (sp) as they are usually the staff I work with. They provide the best customer service, have a great attitude, and always have a smile on their face. They sometimes ask about my pets. Just enough so that I know they care, but never so much that I feel they are praying. The staff are very respectful and polite. I have always had a five star experience at this Petco, everything you're doing keep doing it! No complaints from this guy. My dog is 14, and she has congestive heart failure. Pretty sure I gave the groomer more instructions than I gave the day care on my daughter's first day. That said, the groomer followed every one of my instructions, the most important of which was to just stop if the dog becomes to stressed. Unfortunately, for this sweet, young, inexperienced groomer, that didn't take long. She was able to cut most of her body, but not her head, because my dog had become very agitated. Other groomers have been able to finish, but the inexperience here was the downfall. That said, I would rather have a groomer take care of the health of my dog over trying to complete the job. She refused to take any money, even though I offered twice. Good people, not a lot of experience. read more

I booked an appt online to have my dog groomed. When I got there I was told they didn't have her on the schedule. I have the confirmation of appt email! The groomer was on her way out the door and done for the day at 2:30. I am NOT happy. I called the store manager who made some excuse about their online system not talking to the store system. Aren't they the same company? He did not apologize. I will continue to take my dog to Pet Smart. They are a little more expensive, but they are nice, convenient to book online and I've never had an issue there. I won't be going to PetCo for anything. read more

Absolutely filthy dirty! The smell when entering is offensive; it's dark, dingy, and I fear for all the animals in that facility. I can't speak for the customer service or employees because I took one lap around the store and couldn't stand to stay any longer. I was a volunteer here for a while. I worked hard to clean the cat condos and like the nice and friendly person I am. If someone needed help while I was looking around, I'd help them! Or direct them to a employee who could. Never volunteer or go here. The staff, especially a certain manager has terrible service skills! She scolded me and yelled like I was a child for trying to ask another employee a question. Because I do not assume things, better safe them sorry with animals. But I scolded like a child for "bothering her employees" among other things. I told her nicely though I felt like crying, "I am waiting here still cause my friend with me and her mom and interested in adopting a cat." She said "Okay, afterwards leave." If there truly was a probably she could of asked to talk with me in private but she didn't she just stormed up and yelled/ scolded me like I was a child. When I had honestly done nothing wrong. I called this location in Springfield IL to ask about a product they keep at the front checkout locked in the display case. When I entered the store I went to the cash registers to find an employee to help me complete the sale. No employee was there, but momentarily, manager Shanna came to aid and helped me find what I wanted. Btw when I called ahead she told me to mention the 'MEDS' I wanted were on sale at 20% off at checkout because they were NOT marked as being on sale in their display/sales case. Red flag!! How many customers saw the non sale price and had to pass, because they cldn`t afford it!!?? Sorry if this happened to you. Forget cancel culture it should be neglect culture. So employee Shannon helped me First because I got to the register FIRST, BUT then told me she would help me AFTER the GUY who was in the line after me!!! How unfair,.... first come, first serve... Petco in Springfield Illinois just recently began dog grooming. Right after they opened that part in their store, I read a post on Facebook regarding one of the groomers dragging a dog by it's ear across the floor to get it to the grooming table. The dog was yelping and crying but the groomer kept dragging the poor dog across the floor anyway. This person complained to the manager; the manager said he would take care of it. No one can find out if he took care of it appropriately or not (appropriately meaning firing the groomer). A couple of us have cold at different times and the manager is always "out of the store" I would not take my dog to be groomed here if you paid me. Such disgusting behavior! read more

If I could give this Petco location NEGATIVE 10 STARS I would. This Petco is so small with such a limited selection. Worst of all, they will NOT honor the sale prices shown on their website. That is such BULL$HIT, I've never come across a corporation that would not MATCH the sale price on their website in their store. Plus the ladies working there were less than helpful. I decided I wanted to add fish to a tank I already had running, but lacked companions. It was about 8 pm in the evening and the entire store was bombarded with a horrendous odor and extremely loud noise of the floor buffer. I tried to get past this and already knew what I was going to take home. I waited over 20 minutes for an associate to show up to assist me with my purchase but no one ever came. First and foremost, why are they inconveniencing their customers during business hours. Second, if I am not going to get help with a purchase, I am going somewhere else. I left and made my purchase with another well known pet store only after leaving feeling sick to my stomach from the gases and a throbbing headache from the noise level. read more

Zero stars here, if I could, for their customer service. Bought over $200 worth of product, and ended up not needing several items. There was absolutely nothing anyone could do to assist me in getting a refund without a receipt (even with my dated bank statements, upc look up, nothing). Not even online customer service could help me get any of my money back. Awesome customer service! Cant say enough good things about the staff that worked tonight at this location. I came in to speak with someone after purchasing a defective dangerous good2go carrier for my dog that had metal rods poking out and a ripped screen after one use! The carrier broke before my first flight not to mention the rods that could have seriously injured my dog. I was extremely upset and quite honestly thinking of boycotting the company all together. The manager and two associates I spoke with completely changed my mind. They understood my concern and offered to let me exchange for another brand and were very apologetic even though it was clearly not Petcos fault. I left feeling satisfied and like my concerns were validated and heard. If you're a customer I highly recommend this location and if these are your employees they deserve a raise! read more

We have routinely taken our pets for grooming here. Today, we were given a 3 pm appointment for bath and grooming. 2 hours 15 minutes later they still hadn't started his grooming. We were told our dog was bathed right away but was "waiting for a groomer". Our poor dog was kept in a cage for 2 hours barking because other people were late bringing their pets for their appointments and he had to wait. They claimed they hadn't gotten to him for grooming because someone brought in a puppy who had just arrived. Ridiculous. The hair on the groomers floor was the same hair that was there when we dropped our dog off. We grabbed him and left. Never to come back. If you have an anxious dog or a dog that simply doesn't want to sit in a cage due to a business having poor time management skills, don't go here. They should've simply not given an appointment at all since they were "so busy" or told us to bring him at a different time. read more

The first time I took my two dogs to Petco, the groomer came out to speak to me, leaving a dog standing on the table, with the noose leash around it's neck. I asked him to please not leave the dog standing there like that as it could jump off the table, break its neck or hang. He assured me that they never do that, although I was currently observing him doing just that. He went back in and took the dog down. In spite of my misgivings, I took my dogs there twice to be groomed. They did an average job. Then recently, on my way to another store in the strip mall, I observed once again, A dog standing on the table by itself attached with the noose leash. I called the store and talk to the manager who assured me that they are not supposed to be doing that and she would deal with it immediately. The very next day, on my way past the store, I observed two dogs standing on the tables by themselves. I called. The manager, A man this time, told me that they never leave the dog standing on the tables. I informed him that I was currently outside his door watching them leaving the dogs by themselves on the table. I reminded him that if the dogs jump off the table they will die. He hung up on me. I will not be taking my dogs back. read more

Terrible customer service at Petco in Springfield, IL. Took our bichon to get grooming services; we have used Petco before with no problems. My husband picked him up but went right back in and told them his face was not cut right or at all. I text him a picture and he showed it to them of how we wanted him to look. When they were finished he ended up with a totally uneven cut with almost no hair on his face at all!! He doesn't even look like the same dog!! I called to complain that it was not acceptable; the girl said she was not the one that cut him but she understood and asked would I like to speak to the "grooming manager" and I said yes. Spoke with another person that asked if I wanted to bring him back in to even out the cut and I said no because it's already too short. After some time, I finally agreed to let it grow out a little and we'd bring him back in to even it out then. But when I asked to verify I wouldn't be charged for fixing it later, I was told they couldn't authorize that and I'd need to speak with the store manager tomorrow. Really??? So I called the next day and spoke with the the "store manager". He tells me his staff called him so he is aware of what happened. But then he tells me that he was told I did not want to talk to the grooming manager yesterday and that my husband walked out "satisfied" with the services and that maybe they didn't understand how we wanted him cut! OK...just because he walked out doesn't mean he was satisfied and what more could they have cut off at that point?? And he showed them a picture so how much clearer could it have been? So finally after a lengthy discussion and debate, the "store manager" agrees to let us bring him in free of charge later to even out the cut once it has grown out a little. I hung up but after thinking about this entire situation, I called back and told him I wasn't bringing Pepe back ever! I didn't appreciate them lying and saying I said I didn't want to talk to the grooming manager when I did want to AND had a conversation with supposedly the grooming manager and I also didn't appreciate being told my husband was satisfied with the services when he was basically in shock after they "fixed" it. All they kept suggesting was bring him back in and we will even it out!! Never once was I offered a refund, partial refund, free grooming service or anything else. I told him I would not be back. I went to FB and Twitter. Petco customer service reached out to me on Twitter and after exchanging direct messages they said they would have someone contact me within 48 hours. That was February 18th. As of the 22nd, still no contact. I call customer service and explain how upset I am about this whole situation that could've been prevented by just a simple agreement to fix the bad haircut on my pet's face in a couple of weeks. But that was obviously asking too much. Later that sane day, I received a voicemail from the Springfield Petco store manager (same one I already had an issue with) saying he was returning my call so I called back. A woman answered and when I said I'm returning a call to the manager she put the phone down and said "it's (my name), have fun hahaha". When he picked up I said "have fun? That's real professional." He had nothing to say. I told him I didn't ask for him to call and did not wish to talk to him. He said he had received an email stating he should call me. During the conversation he mentioned offering me free grooming services. I told him he NEVER once offered me free grooming services. He said "yes I did" and I said "no you did not". This was repeated several times and I finally said "you're lying" and he said "no you're lying!" Seriously! I hung up and called customer service back and told them what happened. They assured me they did not ask the store manager to call me and had requested a district manager contact me but I needed to give it 48 hours. So now it's the 28th....6 days later and still no contact from the district manager. Oh but the Petco twitter team sent me a message that they were updated by their team my issue had been resolved. I messaged back "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!" Since the grooming, I had to put a sweater on my dog because he was acting neurotic. I finally realized it was because his hair was cut so close to his skin he was uncomfortable. He kept hiding under the bed which he has never done. And he has had a problem with his ears since his grooming. He just had a checkup prior to grooming so if something is wrong, I'll know where it came from. I will never patronize another Petco again. read more
