Besides, most of the positive reviews you see under their profile are FAKE. For example, "Amy C" is the Amy I complained about in my review. She works for Von Mortgage, you can see her profile on Von Mortgage's website. Following is my original review: They are very unprofessional people, especially Amy. Amy knows nothing about mortgages. She will make your mortgage process a nightmare! I was charged $2000 for the "mortgage orientation fee" and "underwriting fee" which most lenders don't charge. What worse is they will tend to give you a higher rate even you have a great credit score. After all, they will sell your mortgage to a terrible mortgage management company in a few days. Recently we refinanced through Von Mortgage/Celebrity. They sold us to PHH mortgage services before our first payment was due. I believe PHH parent company is Ocwen. Ocwen Mortgage Services was investigated by Dept of Financial Protection or DFPI for not treating customers right and they reached a $220 million dollar settlement in July 2018. Why would Pete Metz/ Von Mortgage/ Celebrity sell loans to these people? It has been a nightmare. PHH uses escrow account creative accounting to add money to your mortgage payment as they cannot earn interest off escrow accounts. Using Von Mortgage was the worst financial mistake I have ever made. read more

The phrase 'earn your business' means a lot insofar as Pete is concerned. I am the opposite of an easy client - I had put in, give or take, twenty applications with other lenders before I picked one. Before I made any commitments whatsoever, he spent hours poring over my stuff, answered all my calls and texts and questions, etc., and spent hours and in fact weeks helping me rescore to get the best possible rate. He didn't get even a little mad when I started bringing other offers to him and asking them about how they worked, or trying to change loan particulars at the last second. The entire loan process, although very complicated (due to various factors out of our control) was flawlessly managed. I have very high expectations and Pete met each of them. I would say that the biggest thing about the experience is that I never felt pressured to go with one option over another; Pete spent hours upon hours with me to change little bits and pieces on the loan until it was perfect for my needs. He was highly flexible throughout the entire process. His advice was phenomenal, and let me customize my loan more or less exactly to my needs. One note - as great of a broker as Pete is, he is as constrained by his lender just about as much as any broker. I am reviewing Pete as a broker, and not the lender. Pete says he can get you in your dream house and take an app from me and gets me to the final steps to close on my home and then come down to it to say that I'm not qualified for this after all the money and time I've spent to get that far, this is something that should have been brought up at the beginning of my loan not at closing wouldn't recommend Pete to my worst enemy. We are buying a house and using Von Mortgage as our lender. We have not been listened to by them. I told them I wanted to roll the closing costs into the mortgage and she didn't hear or listen; I'm not sure which. The lady we spoke with was a bit rude and tried to blame us. They sent us documents prematurely when we were changing the terms of the loan. They sent us the original documents when the seller had not even responded to our new offer. From the moment I walked in the office Amy was very knowledgeable, detail oriented, she works strategically, and made herself available despite my crazy schedule. The worst experience ever trying to refinance my home loan. There was no consistency and having to deal with someone on the east coast made it 1000 times more difficult. We were told a 30 day escrow would not be a problem. It was. 4 months later they called the bank for the first time for a payoff amount, which I had to pay. Then they came up with a list of about 20 items they needed. The next month they called for a payoff, then another list of demands. After 4 months of me having to pay for their incompetency I said forget it. Almost impossible to speak with Pete. Wants you to email everything to his assistant. When I did speak to him he kept referring to his assistant Jennifer as a man. I recommend you run as far away from Von Mortgage as possible. read more

I had absolutely no idea of what to expect when I went to meet with Blair for the first time. Blair was very friendly and explained the whole process to me and got me prequalified. I am very happy to say that I was able to get my first home and the process was so smooth. I had heard horror stories about people buying their houses and I was prepared for that when I walked in. It was nothing of the sort. When I first set up the appointment I was told what documents I needed to bring. I did and Blair got me prequalified and I left pleasantly surprised, and things only got better from there. Blair was so totally amazing helping me through this process. I came in with no real idea of what this process would entail but Blair explained everything to me, two or three times if I wasn't quite understanding and never got impatient or annoyed. He was extremely knowledgeable but maybe even more important he was my cheerleader through this whole process when I got overwhelmed. He was always available, even when I left him messages at 10 o'clock at night because of my weird work schedule. I never felt like I was alone in this process and I felt like could go to Blair with any questions of concerns. I was never just another customer, I truly feel Blair cares and is looking out for you. Not only did Blair keep me in the loop, but Megastar has a ten step process for buying a house, and every time there is a change or you move forward in the process you get a email alert. The email explains the step you are in, complete with links for more information, as well as the next steps and a count down clock until your closing date. Between the two of them I always felt like I knew exactly what was going on. Dori Warren helped my Wife and I close on our first home this past week. She was there for US from the beginning (Getting credit in order, contacting banks, realtors etc..) I understand that is her job, but what she did was work for us, not just with us. She stayed in constant communication with frequent updates and whenever issues arose (there were plenty) she notified us quickly and immediately fought for us to make sure we got the home we wanted. Now that I have gone through the entire process, bought my home, and seen what it takes and how exciting and positive the experience can be. I feel I should share my experience with Megastar. I attempted on two occasions to use Megastar (I have several friends who purchased homes through Megastar, one of them had a positive experience, guess I should have asked the others before wasting my time). Don't let the nice office building and fancifully decorated interior fool you, it was the worst service I've ever received. Pete passed me off to an employee who didn't know what he was doing, never had any answers and could never get any clear answers if given the time. I don't think it was the employees fault, he seemed to have been thrown to the wolves by a management team who could have cared less about both their employee and the customers they assigned him to (I actually felt bad for the guy), after my last round of unanswered questions I never heard from Megastar again, they never contacted me, apparently they didn't need my business. I get the impression that if you're not looking for an expensive house you get passed down the ladder. I have excellent credit but wasn't looking for a big expensive house, just something big enough for my son and myself. My best friend went to Megastar a few days before me, he ended up buying his house through them. Pete was very unprofessional and made my friend and his wife uncomfortable, then toward the end of the process when it was time to close, Pete was downright rude to him. Nasty attitude, acted like my friend was inconveniencing him... My buddy says if he ever decides to buy another house, it won't be through Megastar. And on top of it, they're not even competitively priced. You can do better than Megastar, you can't do much worse... read more

I cannot believe I haven't yelped about Megastar or MegaSuck as we began to refer to it by in our household. I'd love to say in our home, but Pete Metz managed to completely strip us of that dream for a long time. We went to him to find out IF we were ready financially to purchase as I had received some money when my dad passed and I wanted to make sure I used it to buy a house. We were assured we were ready and that Pete was the guy for the job. We were assured of these things all the way through the 30 day escrow that turned into a 55 day escrow only to be told that he just can't get it to go. AFTER I spent all the money we had listening to his advice of pay this and that off. After CLOSING both my credit cards because he said I HAD to because they had so much credit available that it would look bad to the lender (USDA). After one of the few times Pete called me directly after seeing a unhappy post about Megastar on my own fb page where I tagged them so he could tell me that he didn't appreciate what I had to say and it didn't make him want to continue working for me as it would cause him to lose business. After us asking him over and over if everything was alright and being told that it was and we would be in our new home shortly. Well it wasn't alright and we lost that home, spent all the money we had, and destroyed my credit closing my credit cards. Instead of being in our new home when our new son was born, we were stuck trying to find a bigger home to rent and moving when I was seven months pregnant knowing we wouldn't be able to buy until enough time passed that we are able to correct all the damage done by trying to use Megastar and Pete Metz.
