I've always liked Dr. Spooner and believe he's very thorough. The only problem I had with my most recent visit is that other than Dr. Spooner and myself, I saw no one wearing masks. I understand that mask recommendations have changed however, with this being a medical facility, many of the patients are older, and Covid is still alive and well, I would have felt most comfortable if all of the staff had been in masks. Being told by my primary care doctor that I needed to see a Cardiologist sent me into a panic. I was so overwhelmed with anxiety walking in for my first visit my blood pressure was extremely high. The staff and Dr. Spooner are so delightfully kind and calm. I am completely confident in their hands. They do not make me feel rushed or that I have done a terrible job of taking care of myself. I had taken my 93 year old mother (diagnosed with a new onset cardiac dysrhymia) to Dr Spooner only once before as he was recommended by her PCP. He seemed capable and kind. I was not thrilled that we waited nearly an hour and a half to be seen. It's not easy for someone with dementia to sit in a crowded waiting room for so long but I chalked it up to having a late day appointment. Today, I made the appointment for "right after lunch" thinking we would be seen closer to her appointment time. Unfortunately, my mom was not ready when I picked her up from her facility at the designated time, so we arrived a few minutes late. There was no handicapped parking available and no place to drop off my mother near the entrance so we parked at some distance and slowly made our way to the office. (The handicapped button to open the door did not work which the office staff said "happens when patients don't operate it correctly".). When I finally seated my Mom and waited to check in, we were about 10 minute late. They refused to see us and told me to reschedule. I asked if they would reconsider as it's not so cut and dried to bring a 93 year old with dementia and mobility issues to these appointments. The front staff said, "they know how old she is". I would have begrudgingly agreed until she added, 'they're already and hour and a half behind". That's unconscionable! If a practice is routinely 90 minutes late, has no understanding of the challenges facing the elderly, and has front office staff temperamentally better suited to work in Circle K, we will find another practice. Too bad, Dr Spooner seemed like a good man. read more

Dr. Spooner just took me over from his colleague, Dr. James Evans who recently retired. My primary care physician, Dr. Alan Rogers recommended Dr. Spooner to me, as he had originally recommended Dr. Evans to me years ago. It was a seamless transition. Dr. Spooner had reviewed my 15 year file with Pima Heart, examined me and asked the all pertinent questions in the same friendly easy going way his two predecessors (Doctor's Bryn-Quinn and Evans) had.
