Now that ShopRite is closed, I was hoping this local market could be the place I stopped in when I needed a couple of things but didn't want to drive to Kingston. I expected it to be more expensive, it's a small locally owned business, and was prepared to pay that premium for the convenience. But when I went in today I found the bread aisle almost empty and the store smelled like cat piss. I won't be returning. read more

Pete's Market has a chance to get very busy now that Shoprite is closing. All they need to do is offer fresh meats and fish. Some of the meats don't look fresh. I look but never buy. Now that ShopRite closes, this market has the opportunity to get More customers with better prices and fresher products that ensure more profits and convenience for us in Ellenville. If you don't improve I will travel farther to shop. I hope management reads this and takes the advice. read more

I absolutely LOVE this Market! Stopped by on a whom visiting and have been a Customer every since. EVERYTHING in the store looks AMAZING and Fresh!!! I order from Stephanie who is the absolute Best! Fresh, beautiful produce. Murray's chicken (we only eat Bell & Evan's or Murray's). Some terrific specialty items. Clean well-stocked. They have a bit of everything and lean towards healthy foods. Really pleased to have found this store. They are doing a great job. read more

Hi, we are sad to learn that Peter's Market is going out of business! We have been grocery shopping at Peter' s for 30 years, since we have a summer house close by. We loved the sandwiches and snacks. The new owners were nice, but they could not compete with Walmart and ShopRite. The only reason I didn't go for 5 stars is because the produce can sometimes "go" quickly after purchasing. It's an issue I've noticed at other small markets too. Having said that, I love Peter's. I never wait in line to check out, they have everything I'm looking for and quality service to back it up. I left my credit card once and they called me before I even made it home to let me know. Tuna sub Friday!!! I think the phrase TGIF was invented here for Tuna Gods Its Friday!! They have the best tuna subs and still only $4.49 on Fridays! Comes with chips and pickles :) Best tuna around!! I know its in the middle of nowhere but seriously the tuna is so great. You can also get a beer for 79 cents and have a small picnic on the benches outside! read more

Love this spot. We have been going here for sandwiches from the deli counter before hikes and day trips in the surrounding area for over 20yrs. Delicious fresh sandwiches, lots of meat, and they accept call-ahead orders. We have also gotten their rotisserie chicken, which is also good. Its a local find that is well-established in a shaky economy of the region, I hope it hangs on against wal mart moving in down the road. read more

The deli is full of flies and the deli staff is lazy. I like the meat in this place but the deli is unfriendly and unkept.

I stopped here for a quick bit to eat while I was out and about, expecting that they'd have a deli department, which they have, but seemed to close up shop very early for the day. Fortunately, they had some pre-assembled deli sandwiches and salads available. I bought a salsa turkey wrap, but the turkey tasted quite bland, and the overabundance of mayo in the wrap was not to my liking. I also bought a small fire roasted macaroni salad, but I found the mayo they used with the fire roasted tomatoes in the mac salad to be bland as well. read more

This is a terrific local grocery store that has everything one needs -- without having to go to a big box or drive to Ellenville. The prices are good, the staff is friendly and the product is solid, from produce to the butcher. Some gripes on this site aren't credible, just personal and petty from sources that are questionable, at best. But some are legit -- like the occasional produce fail and some needed attention to the turnover of items that are pre-made -- and deserve to be attended to by the management. Nevertheless, this remains a "little guy" to support and we continue to rely on this as our main grocery store whenever we're in the area. read more

Jeremy Peters, the proprietor, refused to refund my $75 for two putrid filet mignon sleeves purchased just recently from his meat bin; although his butcher had taken them back from me in Peters' absence, telling me to return when the boss was in for my money, & also explaining how meat is sometimes bacterially infected prior to kryopacking, etc. So at the Court of Small Claims in Ellenville I sued them for $3000 ("Hitch your wagon to a star." - Emerson), & needless to say they won; with a wink & a nod from the sitting judge to the senior Peters. Their lanky lawyer seemed to have stepped right out of the iconic Hank Ketcham cartoon, he was the living image of Dennis' father; but hardly the Catskill Clarence Darrow. However, for only $25 I had had my day in court; all alone with my humble but forthright Anglo-Saxon screed against their lanky lawyer's Latinate legalisms. My loss was a well-fought defeat, but that sickeningly sweet, septum-searing stench from the Peters Market moldering meat is still with me. Almost incarnate, if you will. read more

I am a resident of Brooklyn Heights but spend my summers in the area and have always shopped at Peters Market. Their meats are always fresh and their deli items are great. I entertain and barbecue each summer and people always ask where I buy the meat and salads because they're so good. This is a pleasant, easy place to shop. It's large enough to have a great selection but small enough so I am in and out quickly. One thing I really like is when I can't find something, a clerk actually escorts me to the shelf (rather than pointing to the isle) - something you rarely find anywhere anymore. read more
