I stayed here for two nights after reading a lot of great reviews. Yes, it is a well stylized bohemian boutique hotel but perhaps they could pay less care on aesthetics and more on customer service that was completely lacking during my stay.
It is owned/run by a husband + wife duo who seemed frazzled, stressed and disorganized whenever I interacted with them. They kept saying that they just returned from a trip, are reopening for the season and things were not working. If you are open for business and taking reservations + money from customers, shit needs to be running more smoothly.
Moreover, I felt very unwelcomed there. Not a lick of friendliness to be found. There was a constant "we're so epically cool" vibe. Leaving this place to my other hotel (with super friendly/welcoming/organized/knowledgeable staff, breakfast included and served in their beautiful courtyard, AC default, fast internet, located centrally, cheaper + cleaner) was a much needed breath of fresh air.
Pros:
- Nice ambiance, great for taking pictures (there was even a press photo shoot there during my stay)
Cons:
- Expensive relative to other hotels, which offer more services
- An extra US$6 per night (on top of their already relatively expensive price) for AC. Why isn't AC a default at a sweltering beach town accommodation?
- Credit card machine not working
- Weak internet connection. I didn't get connection in my room, which was above their office. Got an okay connection in the hallway. At this rate, having internet connection should not be advertised.
- Unfriendly/disorganized staff
- Their bar is right next door...I don't understand why you would open a bar attracting groups of drunk, screaming people right next to your hotel where people are usually trying to sleep...maybe I'm just not cool enough to understand this concept...
- Staff is hardly ever there, just a Post-It note on the locked office door with an "in case of emergency, call..." (why do customers have to seek out service at reasonable daytime hours?). When it was time for me to check out, no one was there. The office was locked. The sweet cleaning lady noticed and helped with the check out process and returned my deposit. Since she could not find the deposit in the office desk, she took money out of her own wallet. Poor lady, she seemed so confused and stressed. If there is a specific check out time and you are taking deposits from customers that need to be returned, the least you could do is be there for that transaction, and perhaps maybe thank your customers for their business.
All in all, not a fan. The experience of my stay was uncomfortable + unpleasant. I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless you want to pay more to take attractive photos and tell people that you stayed at a cool hotel advertised in magazines. It's marketed + hyped really well. Don't fall for it. read more
