When we first started here we had high hopes. Amy, the director, is wonderful and clearly tries very hard to keep things in order. The new owners are a mess. They fired the best teacher they had in the toddler room and proceeded to try covering the positions themselves rather than hiring qualified and experienced workers, in order to save money. On more than one occasion at pick up they were understaffed and over child:teacher ratio. I witnessed kids running amok and getting injured with not enough staff to handle the chaos. What ultimately led us to leave was the MULTIPLE occasions of my child coming home with bite marks that went unnoticed and unreported by staff, dirty diapers/clothes with poop left on them, and poor cleanliness of the facility. I had to pull my kid out as it didn't feel like a safe place for him any longer, which is so sad because they had some really great teachers and it hadn't started out that way. The new owners seemed in over their heads, and full of empty promises but then refused to make necessary changes and on were rude and disrespectful to their employees. read more

The facility was very clean(No shoes indoor, and I saw teachers are mopping floors many times) and organized, meals they serve were healthy, which I really loved. Director, Shideh is very professional and responsive, teachers are nice, class mates are all nice, as well, overall pretty good and safe environment. I don't normally do reviews on Yelp. In fact I'm pretty sure this is my first review on this site. However, I do look on here regularly for honest reviews. I was absolutely appalled to read a review by a Heather V. I'm not sure why Heather would go to such length to attack this school and the wonderful teachers but I do hope that she has received the help and services she needs to help her and her family find some stability. My three children attend Petite and have since 2014. I have one child who graduated from their preschool program and is now in Kindergarten. One who started in the baby Toddler room and moved all the way up to the big kids program. I started my new baby in this last January. So I've had a lot of experience with this particular school and their staff. I love this school. The staff are caring and genuinely concerned for the children's welfare. Irma is the kindest soul and the babies love her. When I drop my 15month old off she screams with delight to go to Irma , which is when the other babies cry in jealousy because they want Irma too! Shideh is professional and compassionate. She wants the children to do well and works with each family independently to meet their needs. I don't think there is anything I have asked that they have not at least tried to accommodate. All the staff are wonderful, the efforts and the detail they know about each child is amazing. I never walk in and see a staff member or child idle. Everyone is always engaged. They work one on one and are extremely attentive. I've had the pleasure of knowing the same teachers since day one, and don't notice any high turn over of staff. It's great to know my younger babies will have teachers I already know! The quality of care here is exceptional, children who graduate from Petite enter kindergarten prepared academically and socially. Within the community I know people my age who have gone to this school. These individuals have fond memories of Petite going back 25 years and is the reason I chose the school in the first place. It makes me so sad that one woman would try and destroy a business which is such a desperately needed resource in our community. We just wrapped up a year and a half at Petite Academy. Our daughter started there when she was 12 months old, and we stayed until 2.5, only leaving because we're moving too far away to continue. The importance that the school and teachers have had in our lives cannot be overstated, especially during this pandemic year. Our daughter grew up so much this past 18 months, totally thriving in the classroom environment. Having other caring adults in her life, especially this year, has been so valuable, as well as socializing with other children day-to-day. As her parents, we're adjusting to her having a life apart from us - whether telling us about the things her friends in class are doing, or her teachers' favorite stories and songs. It was so wonderful to hear about all the fun things she did at school when we picked her up, and really helped confirm for us that she was loving her time there. We had the most contact with her classroom lead teachers Alexis, Heather, and Amy, but Jivka, Yalda, Ikram, Homa, and Teresa all come up in her stories from school days. They've all done an amazing job caring for her and helping her grow. Petite Academy is such a wonderful place. We're so grateful for what they've taught our daughter. My son has been attending for almost a year and is very happy. They were easy to work with as when we did toilet training and offered helpful tips when I asked for them. When he had a hard time transitioning classrooms his favorite teacher allowed him to be dropped off in his old room then would later take him to his new class. It helped settle him and he now happily goes to play in his new class without issue. I love seeing how much he learns everyday, and how proud of his each new skill he is. We joined the Petite Team after our current daycare gave us two days notice of not opening for the fall. We contacted Shideh and she responded quickly, offered us information and a safe tour in the midst of the pandemic. She was so warm, clear and helpful. Our daughter has spent a year with this team and each day it is clear she is loved, cared for, nourished and given room to grow and be her best self. Amy is magic and helped us navigate sad morning drop-offs. Our daughter spends the moment she gets home sharing how Heather, Yelda, Jivka, Wedad and Ikram made her day playful and warm and how they helped her grow. My daughter has been at Petite Academy for three years now and we've had a great experience. She's very happy with her friends and teachers, and you can tell how much the teachers care for their charges. Communication with the teachers and daycare director is great, and parent/teacher conferences are quite thorough. I love getting to see everything my daughter is learning, and Teacher Raiye has really gone above and beyond to keep things new and interesting for my child who is a bit advanced academically. Really, my only complaint about Petite Academy is that it can be a bit difficult to navigate the parking lot when it's particularly full or school across the street is starting/letting out, but there's plenty of parking just around the corner so it's not much of a problem. read more

My son has been at Petite Daycare since he turned 1 and he is now 3 years old. The teachers show genuine interest and affection towards him - I know that they care about him and want him to do well and succeed. Everyone there clearly loves working with children - it's not just a "job." I love when I walk in to pick him up and get to see the new and creative art projects they've had them working on that day. The outdoor area is excellent, and they are serious about making sure that children have their outdoor time. They even have a covered area for children to play in when it rains. There is a routine that we can count on - which is so important. My son really enjoys his time there and he's learning a lot. My son attended Petite Academy for one year, from Fall of 2016 through Fall of 2017. He absolutely loved it. When he first arrived, he was placed in the "baby" classroom due to his age, and to be completely honest, he was very unhappy. He would often cry when we left and told us he didn't enjoy his time there. However, the staff quickly realized that his unhappiness was due to the level of stimulation in that room. They promptly moved him into the "toddler" classroom, where he had a wonderful time. Teacher Amy was just about the best teacher we could have asked for, and my son really bonded to her. My 2 year old has been there since September. The teachers are all very kind to her. When she was losing weight due to some health issues they made it a point to make sure she ate enough. The staff and students are very diverse and they try to teach kids about all cultures. They asked us to borrow books about our holidays. We sent in a book about the Indian festival of Holi and teacher Alexis designed a confetti activity around it. They also do a lot of art and get an hour of outdoor time rain or shine! read more

I previously wrote an honest review about the horrible experience my family had at Petite Daycare during the summer of 2015. A week later, Felicia W, Assistant Director of Petite Academy (the same Felicia W that has left two positive reviews of herself below) threatened to sue me, and left a review of her own employer that revealed confidential and personal information about my foster son on this public forum (thankfully Yelp had more class and tact than PA, and they promptly removed her review for violating their content guidelines). I will leave my review at this: If you feel you should be able to say goodbye and snuggle your toddler before leaving them for the day, this is not the place for you. If you feel that your toddler should be reasonably comfortable when you leave them for the day and not crying alone in a corner when you pick them up, this is not the place for you. If you feel that manners should be taught in a non-intimidating manner, this is not the place for you. If you need more than 2 days notice that you will need to find a different childcare option for your child, due to a changing policy not anything your child has done, this is not the place for you. If you get annoyed by constant trivial complaints about your toddler's typical toddler behavior, this is not the place for you. If you feel that your child should feel safe at their daycare, if you believe that "no means no", if you believe when your child asks repeatedly for another child to stop touching them in a way that makes them uncomfortable, that the staff should stop the behavior immediately and not discipline your child, regardless of the age or gender of either child, this is not the place for you. If your child is a foster child and the details of their case and their privacy are important to you, this is not the place for you. If your child has special needs, developmental delays, or learning disabilities, this is not the place for you. If you don't like to be threatened, and have false CPS reports made against you when you remove your child(ren) from care or leave them appropriate feedback, this is not the place for you. Honestly, I hope that my family's experience was an exception to the norm. I hope that every other child that walks through their doors has an absolutely positive and enriching experience there. Every child deserves that -- mine did too, but that's not what we got. Our experience was terrible, and for that I can not recommend this place. I hope that the next person who comes on here to personally attack me, someone they have never met, over an experience they were not part of, stops to ask themselves "what if it were my kid?" read more

First off, let me respond to Heather V. I happen to be that little girl's mother that you are trashing. Your description of the interactions between your son and my daughter are inaccurate, at best. For you to go online and accuse my child of sexual harassment is amazing. And to do so almost an entire YEAR LATER? Wow, you must be super outraged. I am not going to get into semantics about what your child told you, what my child told me, and what Petite Academy said, but I will say this: slander is not taken lightly. If you have proof, cough it up, otherwise, I caution you against going to the internet to air your grievances. It makes you look ridiculous and perpetuates falsehoods that can do real damage. My experience at Petite Academy was the exact opposite of Heather's. My child enjoyed going there and I had good experiences with the staff. My daughter started in the toddler room, and graduated out of preschool. She was exposed to all of the staff, and liked some more than others, as most children will. I never had any concerns about my child's safety, or whether she was being properly cared for. She asks periodically if she can go back and see them. read more

We started our son at Petite when he was 16 months old (with Teacher Irma, who he just adored as a toddler) and next week he'll graduate from preschool! He has had great relationships with all the teachers and has had the chance to "grow up" with a lot of the same kids for the last 3 years. Every educator has been dedicated to our son's growth--both academically and socially. From Teacher Homa welcoming him with a "good morning" or Teacher Myrna reminding him to bring his artwork home, it's almost like a little family. He comes home from school talking about the activities of his day and is proud of what he learns and does. Yesterday he told us that Teacher Tashi helped him count to "a lot of big numbers!" (past 100!) We are confident he is well-prepared to make the jump to kindergarten! I love that Petite is not a big daycare/preschool center, but is larger than a home daycare/preschool. Centers just feel impersonal and lacking personality, and home-care situations didn't work for us because there wasn't staff to accommodate when a teacher was sick or wanted vacation. We recommend Petite to friends, and will start our newest family addition as soon as he's old enough. Shideh does a great job and has worked with us in a couple special circumstances, and Petite has grown and made some incredible, forward-moving changes in the past year. My son has been attending Petite Academy for 1.5 years and we couldn't be happier! After touring multiple day care facilities we ultimately chose Petite Academy because of the care, loving attention, and academic support we knew our child would receive. I was immediately put at ease with our decision when I took my then 1 year old for a visit before he officially started. He was clingy and unsure, but one of the infant teachers immediately realized he liked music and started singing and playing instruments for him. Within 15 minutes he came out of his shell and started to interact with the teacher--we haven't doubted our decision for a single minute since. We are now in the challenging toddler years and I watch the staff at Petite Academy appropriately set boundaries with my child, instill confidence in him, and ensure he has the tools he needs to be successful when he's ready to enter preschool. I've never used the words 'easy going' to describe my child and am relieved I have found a place that not only accepts my son for who he is but loves him as much as I do. Don't choose Petite Academy if you want 'just a day care'--choose Petite Academy if you are looking for a home-away-from-home where your child will become part of a family. read more

Update of 5/19/2018: 5/16/2018 I have got a public response from the business owner. She told the following: - "Feel free to check del.wa.gov and see we have no valid complaints". My comment is that rudeness and lack of responsibility of your personnel is not illegal yet. If it would, of course I would go to police, government agency but not yelp. Yelp is not for legal complaints. Yelp is to share your terrible customer experience, poor quality of your service etc, lack of responsibility of employees and lack of proper management etc. - "child crying, well this is a daycare, sometimes this happens" Well, I would say it seems like child even SCREAMED not just cried. Yes, sometimes that happens. But in the general picture of the employee behavior this counts towards non-responsibility. - "My staff never refuses to answer questions". That is either misrepresentation, not true or simple fraud. In fact, staff refused to answer multiple of my questions. With good or bad connection quality, I heard refusal multiple times. For example, I asked about availability of spot starting of the next month. It is clear that there is no sense to spend time for a tour if day care center doesn't have a spot and I need it immediately. I was REFUSED with the answer. In a very RUDE manner. Finally as for the business owner (as your title shows), the best way is not to argue with your customers. The best way to improve is to train your employees. Than, you will not need to spend time to excuse about this and multiple other "1-star" reviews here and at google maps. read more

I'm trying to figure out how to summarize the many things I love about Petite Academy. I toured about 5 daycare's 2 1/2 years ago when I was looking for a place to bring my two children (who had just turned 2 and 4. I had been a stay at home mom up to that point). I knew immediately I was going to choose Petite when I walked in because of the staff, cleanliness of the facility, and their focus on academics. I knew my older son was smart and I wanted him to go to a pre-school oriented daycare. Petite Academy exceeded my expectations. When my son started Kindergarten one of the teachers said to me "he knows a lot, he must have gone to a good pre-school". My daughter, who is now 4 1/2 is also smart and learning even more than my son did, since she started here at a younger age. In addition, I have always felt like I have been kept in the loop about what's been going on with my children, and my concerns/requests have always been met with understanding and respect. The teachers and Director Shideh have gone out of their way to make sure that I know my children are being cared for in a way that I'm comfortable with, and mimics how I parent my children at home. When my kids tell me about how another kid hurt them or took their toy I always ask "did you tell your teacher?" "Did they get a time out?" They always say yes and let me know that problems are dealt with in a way that is appropriate and respectful to all. There have also been times when my children have been the ones to hurt other kids and I'm grateful that they receive a time out like they would at home. I feel like the teachers know each child well and have good common sense about tailoring certain things to each child's personality. Now that my daughter is older, she's supposed to go the upstairs room, however she still prefers to go down to the younger kids room in the morning. I really appreciate that the teachers respect that she feels that way and give her the chance to make that decision for herself, and bring her upstairs later as the day goes on (she's usually back downstairs by the time I pick her up). They truly care about how she feels, but they balance that with what's appropriate. Those are just a few of the things I love about Petite Academy. I got my son transferred from our neighborhood school to the school across the street from Petite Academy so that he could go there after school. I will never take my children anywhere else if I can help it! read more

Prior to bringing my son to petite Academy my son had very little preschool education from his large chain daycare and is about to enter kindergarten. As a mother that made me very concerned night he didn't know the standards and how to count and how to write his name amongst other things. The ladies that run this daycare or academy are very good at teaching children the standards that are expected and children as they enter kindergarten which has put my mind to it and ease. I also want to mention that I trust every one of the caretakers as my son really likes them all and they are very strict on how children are treated and treat each other. Creating a safe environment that is also very fun for children to attend. I've never seen my son so excited to be dropped off buy mom in the morning. I tell everybody about how these women turned my son's beginning of education and how wonderful they all are. I would recommend the school to anyone as I do anyways. If you want a sense of security and know that your child is learning while you're away and being treated with respect and has a Structured schedule I would definitely send your child here. read more
