My friend had gotten a dog from this place 10 years ago and she was fostering with them so I thought they were legit. When we went there to see our rescue dog, they wouldn't let us come in. There was a strong smell coming from inside when I popped my head in the front door. I didn't follow my gut and have had nothing but difficulty dealing with Trina and her organization, EJ rescue. They wouldn't communicate with me and then gaslight me. Something so simple as just communicating regarding when my dog is supposed to have her vaccinations & getting her ownership papers. Our dog ended up having worms and other health issues. I don't believe that they did vaccinations on her. We still don't have her ownership papers, and I don't imagine I will ever get them now. I just found out from watching the news that EJ rescue has had 29 dog seized and two people were arrestEd. inhumane care of dogs, keeping them in crates with feces. I hope that Trina and EJ rescue is closed down for good and not allowed to have animals again! They are also a profit business not a nonprofit!! Trina has a horrible reputation with every dog groomer, vet, and dog trainer that I chatted to. One person a groomer, who knows Treena personally told me, she's not a good person. They are still posting dogs to be fostered and rescued! Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable organization. A good reminder to do your due diligence, and look up organizations. I was pretty close to calling Bylaw about them and I am glad someone else did!

This puppy was a rescue who's mother passed when she was young. And from how things have been going, she was no where near ready for adoption and I would say the foster parent simply wanted to off load the puppy. My roomate and I both decided to adopt kittens this year to have some furry friends while we study,…read moreI fell in love with a kitten at pawsitive match and my roomate found one at the Meow foundation, we had drastically different experiences. The process of adoption was pretty straight forward with an application and then a phone interview. My phone interview did not contain any information about my prospective kitten's medical history, so I asked for a copy, they informed me that this would be provided after the adoption and there were no preexisting conditions. After hearing this I decided to go ahead with the adoption. Intially the process was very smooth and I was provided with lots of assistance and resources. As soon as I adopted my cat, Max I noticed that he had a deciduous tooth and it was persistent within the gums and appeared black in colour. I waited for the medical records to come in to see if this was pre-existing. When I was finally sent the medical records it was after the 72 hour period where I could be financially assisted with treatment. It was at this point that I noticed that the deciduous tooth was pre-existing and pawsitive match was aware of it. I decided to email them and provide feedback about how I was disappointed that I was not informed of the tooth and it's colour, as it was already that colour prior to my adoption of him. I was just looking for an apology or an acknowledgement that they should have disclosed the condition prior to my adoption, however I did not get this. Instead after a couple days I recieved multiple emails from different people at the foundation telling me that it woudl be impractical for them to remove all deciduous teeth from kittens and that the medical records were indeed reviewed with me (they were not) the only option they gave me was to return the cat. I was not interested in returning my kitten I just wanted to maybe meet with the vet to discuss the tooth and instead they lectured me on how there was nothing they could do... I think it is extremely important to rescue animals and am not discouraging you from doing so, however my roomate's experience with the Meow Foundation was much more transparent and helpful.

We bought our puppy from Brenda 4 years ago. This was our first dog so we had limited knowledge at…read morethe time. We made a special trip down to Calgary to see this dog. Brenda promised us that our puppy is a pure bred teacup yorkie hence the asking price. We were asking for documentation about him being a purebred but refused to give us any documentation as she stated they "no longer do that". We were confused at the time. After hours of deciding we finally decided to get this puppy. When we gave her the money she took it and shoved it in her bra and then demanded that she take him for a little longer. We thought we would not get our dog back and we lost all that money. In the end we got the puppy but would not recommend Brenda to anyone. She ensured that the puppy would be 5lbs. Our little guy at 4 years old is 12lbs. She also charged an arm and a leg for a non purebred dog that she claimed was purebred. We are so grateful we got our puppy out of that home as it was not a safe environment. Regardless of all the trouble and uncertainty we are thankful we picked him even though he is not what we thought he was. He is the best thing and the sweetest little Morkie.

The dog was a senior and required a lot of dental and medical treatment. This was very costly and the treatment costs went way above the adoption fees. However, Misty Creek was committed to improving the life of the dog and most importantly their focus was ensuring the adopter was getting a happy and healthy animal. Shauna, founder of misty Creek is so bloody kind and genuine. She is professional and really mindful on what is in the best interest of the dog. Shauna is approachable and kind. She was incredibly supportive and easy to talk to. I would really encourage everyone to contact Misty Creek if you are interested in volunteering, fostering or adopting. This is a rescue that truly cares about their dogs and will go the extra mile to support a dog in need.

The systems and procedures of adoption are faulty, causing potential adopters not to be treated…read morewith good faith resulting in disrespect and distress. My daughter and I dutifully adhered to their system, and booked an appointment to adopt a specific pet, but the time lapse between the appointment and our request meant that the pet got adopted out from under us. This would be understandable if it was others with appointments who ended up adopting, but from my previous experience, it could just as easily be a walk in who just decided to "wait for an available counselor". While that was disappointing, we understood and came in early to look at the pets, to pick out another pet, and fortunately we found a couple, with one that my daughter really liked and wanted to adopt. However, the adoption counselor was NOT prepared and very disorganized. Rather than listening to us and ensuring the enclosures of the animals we were interested in were marked as potentially adopted, the counselor took up a great deal of time on irrelevant details, in the office. Despite our noting that we wanted an adult animal, they tried to get us to adopt specific young animals (under a year). They then took an immense amount of time on irrelevant details, such as the specifics as to how the pets had recovered from surgery months ago, confusing current potential health issues with those that had been resolved, rather than taking us to visit the animals themselves. In fact, they took so long telling us irrelevant details about the pets that by the time we were able to go out to see them, the one my daughter had stated she really wanted was again adopted out from under her. This didn't need to happen. If the counselor had immediately taken us to see the animals we were interested in, and given us the specifics of the animals as we were with the particular pet, my daughter could have had the opportunity to indicate the pet she wanted, and been able to adopt it. Something as simple as marking the enclosure of the pets as potentially adopted would have given my daughter a fair chance of adopting the pet she wanted. Instead of having a fair chance to adopt, our adherence to their procedures caused us to be treated with disrespect, and caused distress.

ARF spends each Saturday afternoon between 1 - 3 pm at Pet Smart near Chinook Mall. Before starting the adoption process, we decided to visit them here to get additional information as well as to meet a couple of puppies that we had our eyes on from their website. They have a very stringent selection process which - as first time dog owners - we appreciated. They won't just let you adopt a dog because you want one. They will ask you to visit the dog, they will interview you, they will spend time with you and the animal to see how you are with them. They will come to your house to ensure it is safe for pets. It may sound a bit elitist but the people at ARF truly have the dog's best interest at heart. Most of the dogs are rescued from rural areas and reserves around the city. Once you have adopted the dog, the support continues from ARF - you are provided with 6 weeks of training lessons. There are also periodic phone calls from ARF to see if everything is ok or if you have any questions or concerns with which they may help. All dogs from ARF are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. I would highly recommend adopting a rescued dog from ARF.

They do have a bit of a process to go to to adopt but its worth it. They want to make sure the right people get the right dogs for them. I love that they have a trial day with the dog you are interested in so you can really get a feel for how the dogs will fit in with your life (family, home, schedule etc) before making a full commitment. They are powered almost completely by volunteers and have done some pretty amazing things with very little funding. Want a pet? Check ARF out.
