As we soared high above the meadows, we saw deer lazily grazing at the edges of the small groves that dotted the way to the top. After exiting the lift at the top, we walked a short distance to the suspension bridge. I'm not a fan of heights, but I felt very secure on the bridge, even at the points where it is furthest from the ground. We were rewarded with a fun apres-ski setup on the other side and access to some meandering trails. We hung out for a short while before taking the lift back down. Definitely a great spot to check out while you're nearby!

The fireplace and adult beverages at the top was a nice surprise! We hopped off the 8 person chair lift to a very nice area including bathrooms. Today, however, was a completely different story. I took my girls, husband, and 80 year old father-in-law based on how things were in the fall. No 8 person chair lift. Instead we took 2 person slow as he!! chair lifts to the top on the opposite side, got off where tons off skiers were, and had to walk over their ski path as there was no actual walking path. Not ideal for an 80 year old. There was no fireplace, bathrooms, or beverages in this side. They were, however, on the other side and that was very nice. I don't recommend this place in the early spring. The fall was gorgeous.

I was on my way up Michigans west side coast on my way to Petosky and came accross this Big Rock…read morePoint scenic park. As I pulled in I realized just how picturesque all the views of Lake Michigans shoreline is ( Breathtaking ). They're is parking spots for 8 cars and then extra parking along the rocks down by the picnic tables and benches. I loved the old style functioning water pump. The water from the well was Ice cold and tasted so good. I noticed 5 charcoal grills as well. nice touch I thought. The bathrooms were kept clean as well. The park has lots of trash cans and the area is well kept. Fresh are from the trees and the breeze from Lake Michigan makes this place something special and I look forward to coming back. Give Big Rock Point a look and you'll be glad you did.

I was there at the very end of September and they had just started to turn. Peak was going to be in about two weeks however people told me had we waited until peak it would've been bumper-to-bumper. Traffic flowed nicely and it was just a beautiful. Highlights were Legs Inn, a few coffee shops that had some random farmers markets and just the beauty of the trees! I would definitely do this again it didn't matter what time of the year it is!

If you're into scenic drives and you sometimes ignore your GPS and go off-route in order to get to…read morecool spots along the way, Tunnel of Trees is a detour that you should definitely take. It's part of a route that runs along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan around Harbor Springs and it's super calm, has a rural/rustic vibe, and is just generally a really nice drive. It's also in the vicinity of the Good Hart General Store, so if you head this way you'll get a chance to stop there and check out their goods as well. Check it out if you're in the area or passing through. It's worth it!

Whatta sight! On an island full of beautiful geological formations, Arch Rock stands out from the…read moreothers because it overlooks the water and spans at least 50 feet. It's a beautiful rock! You'll want to make the effort to get up the hill to see it. You can walk up to Arch Rock, but keep in mind that it's all uphill! Or you can bike (again, uphill) or do what I did and take a horse-drawn carriage. Arch Rock, and the adjacent Milliken Nature Center are one of the stops on the horse carriage tours. You only get about 15 minutes to check it out, but how much time do you need to look at a rock formation, no matter how pretty it is? There's a deck that takes you out a little closer to Arch Rock, and from here, you can take lots of beautiful photos of the water peeking through Arch Rock.

This is a historic park on route 23 - about 5-10 minutes drive SE of Mackinaw City. There are a…read morehandful of structures restored from the 1800s. The main focal point is a water powered sawmill that existed there - where one can see the engineering skills of the day. This was the first industrial-like setup of the time. There are scheduled demonstrations run by people who help out at the park to first explain the wood cutting, first the manual effort, then the new way. For our tour, the demonstrator asked for a small child to help - making it interactive in a way. Beyond the tour there are hiking trails - complete through the woods, around, up and down hills and around ponds. For $9 per person additional, there is an adventure tour - great for older kids. Includes ziplining, treetop walking, rock climbing, and a view from the tower. Be prepared though, we showed up at 3:30 (the adventure tours are on the hour) and the last tour (5:00) was already sold out. Very shaded throughout, well maintained... allow 90 minutes without the adventure tour unless you get ambitious and do hiking trails... Allow 2.5 hours otherwise (either hiking or adventure tour).

The park offers various educational programs and experiences throughout the months, has a unique gift shop (the staff was great as well), and has several walking trails to enjoy. I love that you can learn on your walk by reading the various signs posted. It would be fun if they did an educational scavenger hunt on their educational trail, as that would be a fun way to learn. I look forward to visiting again in another month!

It's just a short drive from Mackinaw City and this place has been on our bucket list for a few…read moreyears. The place is nice but it is not exactly what we were expecting. The path is well marked with red lights (no white lights allowed). They do have bathrooms there too. It just felt a little underwhelming and over populated (and we went on a cold fall night). Some people were packing in wagons and had flashlights which was annoying since the white light ruins your eyes when they are adjusted to the dark.
