Was in the Scottsdale area over Christmas. Also drove down to Tucson for a day trip. Parking area is limited and a line formed waiting for spots. The area is very well maintained and walkable for able-bodied folks with no difficulty. I'd say stop by if you're in the area. read more

What an amazing place. Second visit in two trip to Tucson. They have really amazing artwork by local artists, as well as items imported from Mexico that are to die for. They also have really cool tiles that are fired locally in Tucson that make for really cool gifts. Also, an excellent selection of children's books and other items. I love this store! Such a great shop to find gifts for all ages. It's Arizona and desert Southwest inspired so you'll find everything from art, to books, handmade goods, stickers, posters, accessories, clothing, and children's items. The shop owner, Jose, is so kind and friendly I can definitely see why he has repeat business! There is a unique diversity of items to fit any price range! I even found a Route 66 baseball for my great nephew to add to his collection! When he was visiting us in Flagstaff, we couldn't even find this on Route 66! He will be thrilled! Petroglyphs relocated from the MSA Annex to a larger space on the first floor of the Monier apartment building that is on the same side of the street as Mercado San Agustin. This is a fabulous curio shop, chock full of furniture, art, books, and other items made by local artisans. The space is open, airy, and well-lit. The staff lets you browse in peace, but are happy to answer questions and assist, when needed. We stop in when we're in the area to see what's new, and we've purchased more than one holiday/birthday gift here. It's also one of the stops family members must visit before heading home. They usually find unique, reasonably priced items to take back to their own home and to gift to co-workers. Check it out! You won't be disappointed. read more

There are a lot of stores in town that sell "kitschy" Tucsonan and Mexican items but Petroglyphs is much more true to what Tucson is all about. There are so many different things you can buy in this store, from books to decorations to jewelry to art... The list goes on. Everything in there is of such a good quality, mostly from local people. What makes it even better is that you can find items from a range of prices (less than $10 to over $1,000). If you're looking for a gift or just something for yourself or your home, this is the place to go. As I was checking out of the store I was able to chat with the owner. He really cares about the Tucson community and its history - we chatted about rock art around town and his ideas of holding educational hikes so that people could learn more about Tucson. For those that don't know, "petroglyphs" are rock art left behind by indigenous people of long ago. Here in Tucson, we're blessed to have so much of it still intact (mostly made by the Hohokam). I loved that the name of the store paid homage to that. If you want to support your local community and get things that are of good quality, definitely check out Petroglyphs. Petroglyphs is a lovely shop in the Mercado St. Augustin Annex. Owner Jose has curated a great collection of custom furniture and art from local makers and is very knowledgeable of his wares. His selection of Southwest books, cookbooks, nonfiction and children's books is fantastic. A cool place to find a unique gift for kiddos or adults. I bought some lovely hand painted tiles from the studio of Carly Quinn there. I highly recommend this shop if you are in the MSA area; you won't be disappointed. read more

Petroglyphs is a locally owned gallery in the Lost Barrio, featuring art and furniture manufactured by local artisans. The owner is Jose' Jimenez, who is very passionate about the fact that his shop specializes in promoting local artists. In my opinion, this is probably the best gallery for local art and furniture in the Lost Barrio. Much of the merchandise you'll find in the lost barrio is imported from other nations (Brazil, Thailand, India, Morocco, etc.). What sets Petroglyphs apart from the importers is the fact that they promote products designed, created, and manufactured by local Tucson artisans... Petroglyphs offers an impressive and wide array of art and furniture at fair prices. If you are considering a trip to the Lost Barrio, you need to check this shop/gallery out. Jose' said they also host private functions here, both fundraisers and social groups that are looking to rent out the site. Keep it in mind if you're looking for a cool venue to host your party at. Also, if you want something customized, they can work with you. If you're on a mission to "keep it local," you owe it to yourself to check out Petroglyphs. read more

The owner is very helpful and kind, and I especially loved their selection of border-heritage books. Their eclectic mix of imports is refreshing, and reasonably priced.
