I was gifted a gold krugerrand and stopped in to talk with them. The person who helped me was very straightforward, very honest and easy to talk to. I felt I got a fair share, they did take a percentage out for themselves. Clearly they need to make profit buying and selling so I didn't have an issue with this and was prepared not to get full price. After properly testing the coin for authenticity, he filled out a police report which again is very standard and gave me cash. Yep, I went there last week and Ben was awesome. I took in my childhood collection of domestic and foreign coins and bills, plus a few silver Mardi Gras doubloons, and traded those in for a fair amount of cash. Let me just state, if you want to go to a great coin shop, go someplace else. I am a avid collector and I know how much items are worth. Every so often I pop in to this shop and inquire about value of items, coins, bars, rounds, etc. Almost 95% of the time the are trying to cheat you. They off prices comparable to any Pawn Shop. I understand people need to make money, but to knowingly know a piece is valuable and offer a fraction of its worth is super unethical. For example: last week I took a rare Morgan Silver dollar in for their appraisal, I was offered $25 at Old Pueblo, I took the same coin to Ambassador, and Arizona Coin and received appraisals of over $200. Now, I know the value of this coin, but the shear contrast of professionalism is amazing. This hasn't been the only item, I have taken Gold Coins, Peace Dollars, and other rare coins and always get a low price offer from OPC. This week in fact, I took a coin in, one appraiser gave me a quote of $149, I declinded, he asked for another opinion from the other appraiser that was there, he barely looked at the coin and had no knowledge is the first appraisers offer and walked by and said $45. This place is a joke, I think the only honest Appraisers are Ben, and the hispanic lady that works at this shop. They are the only thorough inspectors of items and offer a reasonable price, comparable to Arizona Coin and Ambassador. Not sure who the other guys working the counter are, but they are not only non personable but they dismiss you and your items before even looking at them. I will tell you this, I will never take any items to this coin shop again for an appraisal, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they failed time and time again. It is my suggestion, if you want a good honest appraisal or offer for your items, take them to another coin shop. They are much more reputatble in my opinion. read more

I highly recommend Old Pueblo Coin, especially their resident numismatist, Tom. Today I was around midtown attempting to sell an old wedding band from my first marriage, which was white gold. I took it to one of the places that buy gold, and the lady who inspected it told me in no uncertain terms that my ring was NOT real. She was very apologetic about it--but she said it was fake and not worth anything. Knowing I had purchased my ring from a very reputable jewelry dealer, I KNEW it was not just a piece of steel junk. So I looked online and found Old Pueblo Coin and figured I would give them a chance to check out my ring. Tom waited on me. He is very friendly and knowledgeable. He inspected my ring and put it through a couple of tests and guess what?! REAL. So I was able to sell the ring I had set out to sell, and now I have some extra money in my pocket. The price for a gram of 10k gold today is just under $19. Tom paid me $14 per gram, and my ring was 5 grams. So I received $70 for my old wedding band, when the other place I went wanted to give me nothing for it! I'm glad Tom is a professional and knows what he is doing. Very honest place. By the way--the "other" place I went was only paying $10 per gram! If you are a smart individual, take your for sale items (old gold and silver, etc.) to Old Pueblo Coin first! Don't waste you time getting low-balled by the other shops. This place is the best. read more

In order to truly appreciate how Old Pueblo Coin Exchange is a notch above any comparable business, one must understand a few ideas first: - they operate honestly and very fairly for profit - just like the vast majority of businesses you may visit (except the Desert Diamond Casino, which should be the greediest of all businesses but does everything in it's power to MINIMIZE and ELIMINATE profits) - there are several 'similar' places that just aren't as fair and honest - like Bad Ol' Tom who is a certified reincarnated train robber who terrorized old ladies in Santa Fe in 1879 unabashedly and now took his millions to legally heist people in similar fashion. - for the uneducated in bullion and collectibles, you may at first find places like this a little condescending - but they aren't. They have to explain many concepts over and over on a daily basis to disbelievers...they actually have the patience of a saint. Now, let's talk get down to brass tacks: PRICES: Fair all around. Book value mostly. They have showcase after showcase and almost anything you can't find is probably in their back area - just ask them. After calling to verify that the shop offers this complimentary service, stopped in to authenticate two or three silver proof coins I had purchased via eBay. The saleswoman glanced at the quarter for perhaps one second and said, yes, it is genuine. Perhaps she has X-ray vision, I wonder. She said that one can verify that a silver half dollar is genuine silver by examining the reeding on its edges for evidence of clad copper: this is flatly untrue, as counterfeiters do not routinely leave such self-defeating and obvious clues. She manhandled the quarter and placed it on a certain machine. I asked her the machine's function, and she said that it verifies the authenticity of gold. I admit I was somewhat confused, as these were silver coins, and proofs should not be manhandled or dropped on the countertop without apology. Accordingly, I asked her to weigh the coins, and she brought them over to a scale, but the scale only measured in tenths of a gram rather than one-hundredths, as is customary when weighing coins in grams, as many coins are minted in multiples of 1/4 g (e.g., a silver quarter weighs 6.25 g). Undoubtedly, a commercial scale would be capable of such measurement, but was deliberately calibrated this way. To be polite, I asked her the shop's pricing for silver bars. She told me that the shop buys silver at $0.50 per ounce below the spot price and sells silver at $1.50 per ounce above the spot price. (Hell, I want to be in the arbitrage business, too! Apparently, she does not believe I can do fifth-grade mathematics, which is disheartening, as I earned a b.s. in chemical engineering.) She did not know that I have been buying and selling physical silver and silver futures for years, and the price through a certain leading national dealer is $0.50 ($0.90 for premium branded bars) over the spot price for 100 oz t silver bars, not $1.50. When I questioned her on this point, she said that the advantage was that I'd be buying locally, as if I were buying turnips, or had just fallen off the turnip truck. read more

After being made a ridiculous offer by Goo* Ol* To***. I called Old Pueblo Coin Exchange. They made me a reasonable offer on my 1oz. Krugerrand. I went in a bit later and they honored they offer and I walked out with $250.00 more than the other place offered me. I watch gold and I understand that they charge a fee for the purchase, that's normal when selling gold. Tom tried to rip me off and these guys wee a breath of fresh air. I just wanted to buy a Smat TV and I did. I have more and the next time I want to sell one, I won't have to shop around, I'll just go to Old Pueblo and not fear about wondering if I could have done better. The price of gold is very volatile and changes hourly in some cases. It has been dropping steadily and so I knew I would lose on this. But, they took a minimal commision and made me feel good about my deal. Don't be fooled by all the ads saying they pay the most for gold. the cost is the cost. Rating is inaccurate, it is less than 1 star! Went in to this establishment after reading on their website stating "if your not doing business with us your losing money" That is the biggest false advertising I've have seen yet! I went here to sell some old and rare coins that was given to me by my 94 yr. old grandfather. Some of the coins were rated and appraised back in 1963 had paperwork to show it but by the time I could even produce the paperwork I was told that the prices on the coin casings were accurate. All in all I this business basically was trying to RIP ME OFF!!! saying the prices back in 1963 we're accurate? What no inflation in 50 years? But try to buy from him and the same coin I had that he wanted to give me $4.00 was in his showcase for over $20.00 and in same condition!!!
