I had an appointment for my dog and he genetically has bad teeth. I asked that he doesn't get teeth brushed because his mouth is sensitive and he has to get another surgery. So they waited until I showed up to look at his bad teeth and tell me they couldnt bathe him. I asked if they could at least cut his nails because they were long and they refused. Terrible experience and complete lack of professional management.I have been a loyal client of this Dover location for two years, but it has gone completely downhill. It appears to be under new management, and I did not recognize any of the groomers.I booked a full haircut for my dog, which was explicitly confirmed when I checked him in at 8:00 AM. An hour and a half later (9:30 AM), I received a call claiming they could only do a bath and a trim. When I spoke to the manager, they insisted no one was available for a full cut and falsely claimed I had only booked a trim--which they could not even prove or confirm in their system.I picked my dog up 30 minutes later, and he looked exactly the same as when I dropped him off. He received a bath, but he was absolutely NOT trimmed or cut. Charging me $63 for a completely unfulfilled service is unacceptable. The manager completely failed to remedy the situation or take accountability for their scheduling error. This location is now highly unorganized and unprofessional. I brought my dog here since he needs two hands to groom him and my normal groomer can't handle him by herself. Staff was very nice. I know they took care of him and held him since he was I'm sure more than scared. Yes he was matted I get that. But what I don't understand is why you have to pay a $30 matting fee on top of the Regular fee if all they are going to do is shave him. So that's $90. They told me they were going to shave him down, but I guess I didn't understand how truly drastic it was. I don't even know if this is my dog. read more

I took my dog Charlie in this morning to the groomers. I specifically asked for taking half of his hair off to Claudia the groomer. She showed me what the blade cut she would use to look like and it seemed reasonable. Charlie is an Australian Sheppard and Blue Healer mix. And he now looks like a Grey Hound with a fluffy tail. And I also asked to have his nails grinded and they are only cut and still very sharp. I'm beyond pissed off. However, the manager was extremely helpful and apologetic and did give me a full refund. The fellow groomers that were coming to shift were also very sorry for the mishap. read more

This location is horrible. We went in, asking about doggy nail polish for our 11 year old chiweenie. The young lady at the register literally rolled her eyes and groaned. We asked if we had to make an appointment instead because of COVID, she then ignored our question and rolled her eyes and said the polish in the back wasn't for sale and that there were too many dogs in store already. She was just a plain bitch in general towards us and towards other customers in general. I never leave reviews to be honest but I was really shocked by her attitude. Store is great for animal care products. One of the biggest pet stores in the area. My friend got nice tank kit for her tarantula. And I got nice beta fish tank. Good heavy quality plastic. Although I wouldn't recommend buying your next pet from them. They don't take too good care of their animals. It's really hit or miss. My sister felt bad for a hermit crab. It was sitting all by itself in an empty water bowl surrounded by dead crabs. We got him home. He stayed around the corner of her crab tank for a few days. We take really good care of our crabs. Rarely have a casualty. But sadly he died. The employee had no problem taking the crab back. Really nice about it. Oh I also Got a dwarf hamster there before the whole crab thing. Going on 3 years! So I happily took my puppy to get groomed. We were first in line and on time for our appointment. Once inside I was told after I said good morning that j in needed to give her a minute because her computer wasn't even on it wasn't even at 8 o clock. Oddly enough it was a little after 8 and my appointment was at 8am. My dog was nervous and had an accident I didn't realize he had it on him. I asked for a wipe to clean him, she threw a paper towel in my face and bag. When she came around she had a leash but I had removed his collar and so apologetic I said I'm sorry he doesn't have on a collar and she gave me a look and remarked it's not like I'm keeping him. Now another groomer came in she didn't even speak. She took my dog from the other lady and he kissed her cheek so I stayed and paid for service. I picked him up and the cut was uneven and damn near bald. I didn't make a stink I hugged my puppy and left. He seems to have been traumatized. We will not be back!!! read more

I bought a pair of covered litter boxes on line last year. Last week my 16 pound cat jumped from a 36 inch high piece of furniture to the top of a litter box. He went through the top and cut his leg!!! I took them back to the store today and the manager told me they wouldn't take them back because I've had them over 60 days. She never asked about my cat!!! I've used Van Ness litter boxes for years and never had a problem with them. These weren't Van Ness. Needless to say that for a store that's "dedicated to pets" this was a less than satisfactory experience and coupled with their usually high prices has made up my mind NEVER to shop there again. I have been bringing my dogs here for years and this past year they have brought in new staff which are horrible. I paid for the bath and brush for my lab yesterday plus for her teeth to be brushed. I have a mixed review today but gave them a 4 because this is an unprecedented time. My dog really needed her nails cut and so I called to make sure that they still had their usual "walk in service" for this. They did not and I had to have my dog bathed in order to get her nails cut. This is the part that I was not particularly happy about BUT during this time I have to say that they had the floors marked to insure we stayed 6 feet apart - seemed today that they brought in all the dogs to be groomed at 9 so they had us line up outside and brought us in one at a time to drop off our pups. We started coming here after we adopted our dog and realized our at-home training wasn't going to be enough for her! We signed her up for puppy classes with Marci who was really great. She spent so much time with us working on the specific things that we were having a hard time with (crate training, separation anxiety, and general listening!). We also used the grooming salon for her - you do not need an appointment to get a dog's nails trimmed, but you do however need an appointment for any other grooming service. Derrick was always so great, he would always bend down to the ground and hug our dog so she would feel more comfortable as she was going back there because she was scared of the loud noises. She always smelled great when we picked her up after having her groomed. I would highly recommend coming here. All the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I'll use the grooming salon for my dog but when I go in and ask for $3 of loose crickets that's what I want. Almost all of the employees are kind and friendly. The workers in the fish department are excellent and knowledgable about every type of fish. However, I was severely disappointed about lack of education in the reptile department. One employee attempted to state that poisonous and venomous were synonymous; and that a bite from an insect would surely be lethal. The information provided was false; as I had done ample research prior to purchasing. While I would highly recommend anyone to purchase fish at PetSmart, their reptilian department is lacking and general employee knowledge about reptiles should be increased! read more

We always check out the dog adoptions, just a few months ago puppies were 175, over a year $125 to adopt, they closed the adoption center and re did it, now puppies are $400 to adopt. My daughter and I bought 2 rats from PetSmart in Dover, DE on Thursday. We also bought bedding from this store, as they were use to being in it. I noticed they were sneezing and had signs of respiratory infections. I called the store and asked to speak with a manager on Saturday. I informed her of the rats being ill. She told me to bring them back, they will treat them, and then I have to buy them back. I said absolutely not. I do not know who will be treating them, how they will be handled and how long it may take. (2-3 weeks is a long time in a rattys life) I told her I would take them to my vet to be treated. The manager informed me I was being rude. I told her I was not being rude yet. This PetSmart is selling sick animals, and the policy is ridiculous. I told her twice I knew she did not cause the animals to be ill, and it was not personally her policy. I have never met anyone in the position of a manger so unprofessional and rude in my life. The woman who sold us the rats was very helpful, and you could tell she cared about the animals, but the manager I spoke with was horrid. Please do yourself a favor, do not buy animals from this store. I would have given this a "no star" rating if it was allowed. read more
