Our dog was recently certified and we want to help our neighbors through this long process! We previously appreciated our dog boarding at Upstate Dog Academy but we stopped going for several reasons. Positives: James at Upstate Dog Academy offers dog boarding in his home and has a yard for daily outings. Negatives: We started with lessons at Upstate Dog Academy but we later found that other area dog trainers offer classes with a mix of more positive reinforcement and our dog started making more progress once we switched. Also, our dog just didn't seem to be getting the same amount of outdoor time here as at other kennels. On our last visit for boarding, our dog looked visibly distressed as we pulled in the driveway and we decided we would not be going back. *Routes to Therapy Dog Certification: 1. Attend private lessons for beginner through Therapy Dog and then get certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) via Noble Dog Hotel. This is the more expensive option. 2. Attend classes at Astro Kennels, then take Therapy Dog class at Petsmart in Mount Pleasant, SC, and then contact a private ATD evaluator through the ATD website. This is the cheaper option.

I didn't have very high expectations because it was just 1 week of training, but boy was I wrong! Wes and Destiny are truly dog whisperers. They taught my pup to walk on a leash, come when called, lay down, stay and "break" -- all in just 1 week! Each day I would pick my pup up after training, they would spend about 10 minutes with me reviewing what they did that day and teaching me how to continue training at home. They are so knowledgeable and genuinely care about your pup. I had no doubt that I was leaving my pup in good hands with them. Pepperoni fell into our laps after a friend started fostering her to get her out of a kill shelter in South Carolina. We were in love with our snuggly girl from the start, but she was also timid, skittish, poorly behaved on the leash, and terrified of strangers (especially men). We tried to take her to a doggie daycare for socialization, but she was so terrified, she escaped within a half hour and was not allowed back. Over the course of six months, David helped us build Pepper's confidence and bring her out of her shell. She now sits with us at dog-friendly restaurants, greets every guest at the door, and just spent her first day at doggie daycare (no escaping! No hiding!) We cannot thank David enough for all he has done and his patience in going the extra mile for a more difficult case. We're so grateful to have a happy, healthy dog!

The staff is incredibly warm and inviting - we got lost on the way there and they actually drove out to find us and help us get there. They also were willing to stay a few minutes late for us when our plane was late getting back to Greenville. Our dog was incredibly well cared for and we got updates throughout on how he was doing. The facility is beautiful and large and each kennel has an indoor and outdoor space for your furry family member. Admittedly it is a pricier kennel, but honestly for the level of service that they provide it is definitely worth it. We will be visiting again for every flight that we take from Greenville in the future!
