I wish this would allow me to write a different review for the two different locations I've been to this week the petsmart bayers lake i would have gave 10 stars the service there is amazing friendly staff and very respectful employees On the other hand petsmart munford road halifax...the one guy we where dealing with today was rude if I bothered to remember his name i would tell you ..lets just say we put our stuff back and left the store because of him ..my daughter and I waited 15 mins for service with fish and then I think he got upset because we asked for help and took his attention away from the female employee he was talking to . My thoughts are if you're on the clock and getting paid you should help the people that are spending money in the store and not worrying about buying beers after work .. read more

I just had my American Eskimo groomed at Petsmart in BAYERS LAKE. Lillian did a great job! Eskie can be a bit of a handful to groom, at times, according to other groomers, however , Lillian had no problems. On June 26, 2021, I had our family's 8 month old puppy groomed at Pet Smart on Chain Link Drive in Halifax--my third visit. We have a sweet bichon frisée, and her hair was about an inch and a half long. I asked for a trim to even out her fur and to prepare her for a walking-filled outdoor family vacation. The groomer shared that it was "a very busy day" and that she would be ready in 3 hours. She called after two hours for pick up. Shockingly, I returned to a puppy who had been shaved very close to the skin. The groomer explained that she had "a number of matted areas on her neck and body," and thus had "no choice" but to take her fur to the lowest length. I was horrified at the sight of a bald puppy, who immediately looked in pain when I picked her up. She was not cuddly, as usual and looked as though in pain. But I was even more so shocked and distressed when we brought her home. Her behavior shifted radically: She was skiddish for the first time, incessantly itching, and up the entire night moving, barking, irritable. She moved constantly, as if in pain. Today -- the day after --, she is the same: sad and not at all playful, moving and twitching, and her skin is increasingly red at her spine. In less than a day, she is no longer the sweet, cuddly, playful, confident puppy we left for grooming at Pet Smart yesterday. My family is deeply, deeply distraught. Today, I spent hours (on vacation) reading about what could be wrong, and found that 1) her coat should never have been taken down so low as it causes great irritation and discomfort for many bichons, 2) that the close shearing makes her skin more vulnerable to sunburn and sensitivity, and 3) that bichon hair (with some normal matting )simply needs gentle detangling care with spray and combing. A number of bichon care resources I studied also warned about the danger of her hair growing back irregularly as a result of such unnecessarily short shearing. I am disappointed that the groomer carelessly removed all of our puppy's fur and caused such great distress for our sweet puppy and also for our family. I am angry at the lack of professionalism displayed by the groomer who hastily sheared the puppy "on a busy day" rather than taking the time to care properly for her fur and groom her fur as our breed of puppy needed. I am frustrated that the groomer did not simply call to say that she felt our puppy was too matted for a trim; I would have happily picked her up to prevent the distress the groomer ultimately caused. I am tired after a sleepless night and during a much-needed vacation, that will need now to attend to our distressed puppy. And I have been hustled for $70 that deserves to be reimbursed. We deserve an apology and Pet Smart needs to train its groomers with greater compassion and knowledge of breeds that cannot, should not be cut to the skin. At the very least, Pet Smart groomers must be forthright with information regarding the risks of such shearing before we turn our beloved pets over into their care. We the customers need to be able to make the final, informed decisions about shearing, and certainly, I would never have made such a choice with proper information about the likelihood of such harm to our puppy. read more

My cats are my "kids." I take very good care of them and try to feed them better-quality food. Unfortunately, Petsmart carries mostly poor-quality brands with lots of by-products and fillers like wheat, soy and corn. The few decent brands they carry? HOLY MARKUPS BATMAN. The most expensive I've seen for the same brands in other stores in Halifax. They do have a good variety of toys and what-not, and the store has a nice layout and is (so far) clean and well-maintained. The staff we interacted with were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. However, because of the lack of "good" cat food brands - and the biiig markups on brands like Wellness - we will only be returning for non-food items. read more

I would not given even the 1 star for such horrible and unprofessional services in this grooming salon. I am very disappointed and unsatisfied of the service provided there!!! They really work unprofessionally! I am a new costumer with a 4 month old puppy that have been trying to book an appointment for more then one month already on the road and every time they cancel the appointment because of their unprofessionalism and lack of the appropriate knowledge!!!(And my puppy has yet not got the basic grooming service !!!Just don't want to imagine what kind of service is provided to the puppies!!!)I don't recommend do use they services! read more

I was so disgusted with Petsmart today that I'm not sure why they would take my dog and tell me the appointment was for three hour. The dog is about 10 pounds. I told them I wanted to be there for the haircut. They finally took the dog from me to shampoo the dog ,the dog came back from the back with its haircut it's facial hair was cut . I was supposed to be there for the haircut. That's why stayed I asked them if I could stay for the haircut so why did they do it outback? The dog is not suppose to get its face cut at all because I like a mane on my dog for shows. They are not professionals and I do not recommend to go there and I will be seeing them in court I'm about to file a small claims court against them they were not allowed to take my dog and cut its hair when I wasn't present I asked them to do it in front of me. It also cost $60 for one dog to get their haircut and that is for a small dogs, most places are $40 which I still didn't have a problem with because I thought it would be a little bit more professional where they were a chain well it's not the case at all please take your dog elsewhere to get haircuts do you not trust them in pet smart to cut your dogs hair!!!!!! Just got back from another groomer he said what a shit show they must've done on my dog nothing lined up nothing looked good and yes they touch the hair on her face because it was cut. Thank to a friend I got in 25mins after that horrible horrific experience at Petsmart. read more

I Am not satisfied with my service today. I waited a week for a groom. I had the papers from the vet and she said there was no expiree date on the receipt I had so she could not do him with out that I had receipts with dates every body knows they are for 2 years and the day he got his needles was in July 2019 and she had to ask the vet. I don't understand why she could not do the math. Does she not have education for that I am very upset about this. We have being going here for a long time and they should have known they have their needles we have 4 dogs that go there do I have to change our groomers? She should be fired this is not acceptable. They have a high turnover in staff in this store, particularly the grooming department, and it shows in the service. Occassionally your dog will get a good grooming service, but more often then not you will get less then what you pay for and excuses. The floor staff in the store are about the same. There used to be one or two enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful staffers. Now, even thought there are usually more staff working then there are customers in the store, the majority of them seem disinterested. This is particularly true of the current management staff, who frequently hide in the office and show disdain when you attempt to ask them a question their staff couldn't answer. read more

Maybe It's just me, but this Petsmart is dullsville baby doll. If you know me, you know I love my dog. The way I show Odie how much I love him is buying him the cutest dog toys and treats I can find. I usually love Petsmart because they sell lots of kong and Martha Stewart brand dog toys. Which he likes the most and don't look too ugly scattered all over my apartment floor. I love my dog, but he's a messy pig. My point is, the selection here is not that great, it felt kinda blah, and I will probably not come back. Went in this location with my boyfriend right before we were about to pick up out puppy from the SPCA. The staff made sure we had every single thing we needed before we brought her home. Spent over $300 but well worth it! We also bought a coupon book and have tons of coupons left plus we saved a total of $80 on our initial purchase. My dog had bloodshot eyes from being choked in the restraint. I understand that the dog has to have a leash around its neck for safety for the dog and groomer. However, if the dogs' air is being restrained, YOU AREN'T DOING IT RIGHT! There were two female groomers working on my dog today. She licks, never bites. And the only thing she was getting done was her nails clipped, and ears cleaned. Btw...if i'm paying for you to clean her ears, i mean to have them cleaned other than a cotton ball and ear cleaner swab (i can do that). One of the two groomers had a bad attitude, kept telling another dog there to shut up and stop whining. Ya, I won't be taking my dog back there for anything. If you are going to hire groomers, be sure they know what the hell they are doing! they're lucky i was in a good mood and left without choking off their air supply! read more

I now go to this store for all of my aquarium needs. The store is clean and the staff is friendly. The staff however do lack knowledge about aquarium stuff. They should be better trained. I will go back. read more

I usually really enjoy going to this store (except there is always a small guy working with the worst body odour-guess his manager doesn't want to have that awkward conversation) but today seemed like all the regular staff (except for the stinky guy-he was there-but he wasn't the worst smell there today, let me tell you) were off for the long weekend. When I walked in, it smelled of death. There was quite obviously a dead animal of some kind in the store and the smell lasted for the entire visit about 30-40 minutes. Not a lot of staff working for a Saturday. I purchased a hermit crab that was living in a desert, not the tropical temperature it should be living in, the dirt was bone dry, no water in the dish, the employee had no idea how many were even in there, finding only one out of 2 cages. When I got the poor guy home he was in a shell 10x too big for him so he couldn't really move, he's missing a leg, and was COVERED in mites!!!! Poor crab! When I paid I wasn't asked if I wanted an emailed receipt, if I'm being picky, and I am, these are not things I usually experience at this store. The worst was the treatment of the animal. I have had my dog groomed at this location twice now and am very pleased with the results. When I pick my dog up he looks great and is not stressed out. The staff are courteous and the facility is clean. read more

This review will be edited with further detail soon. For now, I just couldn't wait to say how utterly terrible the dog grooming service is in the Bayer's lake Pet Smart. It's so rare that I'm put off or disappointed that I would walk out of a store angry. In fact, it's been years. However, my 4th and final experience with these lacklustre groomers is all I can take. For now, I will say that my 4 experiences include two phone calls to make appointments (both where the staff member was extremely confused and located incorrectly input records on our dog -MUCH more on their incredibly horrible record and data input later). The other two experiences were the actual visits for grooming. Both times we were turned away, though the 1st visit we corrected the groomer on our dogs age (she could not correctly count months) and we did receive a "puppy cut." We also jumped through other unnecessary hoops to convince the seemingly lazy groomer to see the appointment through. The 2nd time - TODAY (Oct. 10th, 2015) ... we were turned away due to what appeared to be radical incompetence from the person we were dealing with. I actually had that awful feeling she did not intend on doing her possible(?) last cut of her shift as we approached the building and she looked so disappointed watching us approach through the window as we (me, our dog (ALICE @ 3pm appt) and our 3 kids approached). Her expressionless face -and soon after completely flat personality from the moment we arrived --- clearly said it all --- and I knew there was going to be problems. I couldn't have been more correct. She "conveniently" couldn't locate us on the computer to show our dog had had her shots (though she did SLIP and mention our dog's age (though they had incorrectly input this - or she was just attempting to butcher any possibility of having to work for the next 90 minutes or so). From there, just a barrage of complete and total BS and HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service. Talk about a deadbeat behind the counter. I even played a message from the vet's office - but nothing was good enough to convince her to complete the appointment we WAITED A WEEK FOR! Now our pup gets spayed on Tuesday, and will not be able to have her shaggy coat trimmed for sometime afterward. We hoped and deserved (after waiting a full week) that the dog also could be more comfortable once her stitches were in and the protective cone around her neck for a while. *****This is hastily written - and in some amount of continued anger following this 4th POOR EXPERIENCE. Therefore, I will edit and finish finish this report soon. For now, I needed to get this started. We have friends who have terrible experiences also (one who had to have her dog's ears trimmed ELSEWHERE immediately following their appointment ay PETSMART BAYERS LAKE ... as the dogs ears were missed or avoided by the so-called groomer). For my family - this worst experiences in any shop of any kind we've EVER experienced ... in years, or possible even 'ever.' Four poor experiences in a row is simply hard to believe. My best advice - go elsewhere. Don't think twice about this. Don't even consider this catastrophe of a grooming shop. I say all this while having enjoyed their retail store and staff at that location and in Bedford. They have been quite friendly, helpful and outgoing ON THE RETAIL SIDE. Though not always as knowledgeable as hoped, that's okay, as I know what my pets need. For higher quality food we go elsewhere. For the basics, this store is good enough. However, once you cross the barrier from the Petsmart retail area into the grooming salon in the Bayer's Lake location, you've entered a whole different world. JUST DON'T GO THERE! read more
