Well for one, I came in with my step daughter a couple weeks ago to find gravel for an aqaurium and to buy white clouds for my tank. They have a very limited supply of aqaurium gravel and the man in the fish department totally ignored us. And when another customer appeared, he helped them instead. Their supplies are over priced and the store is very small. Will not be back. Will do all my business from now on at Discover Aqautics. Yes you pay a little more on what you buy there, but their stock is in greater abundance and their fish are much more better take care of. Bought 17 white cloud minnows (and a Pleco) from them and each one are thriving. Zero stars for this petsmart and 5 for Discover Aqautics. read more

We signed up for dog training at PetSmart with Jonathan, also known as JO. We have one on one training for about an hour weekly for six weeks before starting a second series of lessons. More than halfway through this first series, we are so pleased with the results, which are helping keep us and our dog safe. JO is a very skilled dog trainer. More than once I've thought of him as a dog whisperer as our one year old rescue dog responds almost instantly to the new commands he teaches her. My husband and I then immediately practice them with our girl to ensure the lessons are sticking. We practice in the training area and around the store, which is always full of distractions to test our dog. The lessons have stuck and we use them regularly at home and when we are out and about. There is inadequate information about grooming on the website. They will not take muzzled dogs. I put in the notes that I was bringing a muzzle for my chihuahua, and when we arrived for the appointment, they told me they could not take him since he had a muzzle on. I said it was in my notes--We don't read the notes--was the response I received. They can certainly set whatever policies they think they need--but they should be communicated clearly. Charged me $80 for a grooming and then butchered my dogs hair, I could have done better if I just trimmed him myself, I was expecting it to look professionally done. He has multiple choppy layers, they didn't even finish drying him and left him in the crate half wet. Poms are not supposed to get their undercoat cut, and they managed to cut some of that too. They charged me extra for a 'furminator' but he was shedding even more than when I brought him in, I was pulling chunks of fur from him in the car ride home. read more

One of the things I love about Petsmart is it's variety. Given their larger size, they generally stock more items than Petco. Particularly in the aquatics department. In a word friendly. All of the associates I have encountered here have been friendly. They offer a bit of chitchat and a smile. All while providing quick service. I also appreciate that they admit when they do not know the answer to something. No answer is preferred over the wrong information. Fast service for online orders. Some of the other local Petsmart locations seem to be a minimum two hour wait. The email informing me that the order was ready for pick-up was to me in 10 minutes! Orders may be picked up either curbside or at the register. At the tine of this review, an additional 10% off is being added to select products when ordering online. UPDATE: our dog still has scabs 6 weeks later. This is unacceptable and insane. I do not suggest EVER taking your pet here. We took our dog in for a bath, and they called to say he had mats so he would need a cut as well. We allowed it, even though we didn't really want a cut. The groomer called me an hour later staying our dog bit her and she would not be able to finish the cut. We show up to pick up our dog, and he is is cut in 3 different spots. He was bleeding badly, and the groomer didn't even tell us. She made it seem like our dog was the issue. I'm baffled by this whole experience and I do not recommend taking your dog here to get groomed. I'm unsure how Sydney has a job grooming when she admitted she used the wrong blade and cut him in one, but THREE places. read more

I got frustrated with our previous groomer because it became impossible to get an appointment within a reasonable time frame, so I decided to try PetSmart grooming instead. Chelsea P. has groomed our dog a couple times now, and she has done an outstanding job! It is so easy to schedule an appointment on the app, and the cuts have been super cute. Also we get a great little summary sheet at the end with details on what exactly was done and how she behaved, etc. Will definitely keep coming back! read more

WARNING, DO NOT BUY ANY ANIMALS FROM THIS PETSMART!!!!! I got home today, put my kids in bed and my daughter asked if she could kiss her guinea pig (that we've had for 3 days) goodnight. Of course I go to get him from his cage and I find him limp, cold and gasping for air. I am sad, disgusted and very confused right now. Why would they sell me a guinea pig that was so sick he would die 3 days after being home?!?! My kids are going to be heartbroken tomorrow and I am extremely upset. I'm rating this location solely on the Grooming Services. I've lived in the Hyde Park area for almost 7 years now and have struggled with PetSmart grooming in the past - particularly at the Hyde Park location. My 4-pound Yorkie had a "ruff" experience as a pup and has since been "banned" from the Hyde Park location (presumably they couldn't get him to calm down and still refuse to groom him without him taking a sedative - no, thank you). Ever since, I have been inconvenienced into driving to the Mason location just to get him groomed! Enter the Newport PetSmart... my savior! They have never once turned us away and my little Beau always gets positive feedback on his "Pawgress Report"! It's so much easier to drop him off on my way into work than drive 30 minutes out of my way on a weekend. I had one minor issue during my last visit when I went to drop my pup off at 7:45 a.m. for his 8 a.m. appointment. But, come to find out, the groomers don't arrive in the morning until their first appointment, which forced me to be late into work. Lesson learned: Schedule the appointment for when I plan on doing the drop-off! read more

Worst Grooming ever! I took my golden retriever there for his birthday to be groomed. The girl that was supposed to groom him was not there yet so another lady was taking the notes for his cut. Apparently, nothing was passed on for his cut because every single area that I said I did not want cut was cut! His front legs and belly were buzzed short, his hind legs were cut short. It was terrible! The two areas I did say to trim (the only two they absolutely should have) were not. Not one hair was trimmed on his tale or ears. Not one! Clearly doesn't know how to cut hair. I spoke with a manager and he seemed to care less and was very passive. He gave me half off my next appointment, ha like I would ever use that. There was some bs answer as to why he couldn't refund my money! So $100 for a crappy cut that I had to fix at home! Save your money, or spend it elsewhere! I know I will! read more

Paid $200 for training. Never received the training as it was not at all what I expected or paid for.. was refused a refund. My puppy has had bloody stool off and on since entering this class ONE time. They train in the same spaces dogs being brought in for the clinic are being treated for infectious diseases. The trainer used to be great and hands on. Now she's over booked and clearly wore out. I'm beyond disappointed and since they refuse to refund I hope that money is used towards an animal in need and not your money hungry store. Steer clear. There are plenty of other small business pet supply stores in the area that are great and offer training as well. Eh not so sure about how they operate the groomers. I called to ask some questions about length of appointment for my puppy's particulars and was told an hour. I actually called two different locations and got the same answer so I trusted this was correct. I made an appointment at this location, arrived on time, they took him and said if you don't hear from us within the hour come back after one hour. At 10 minutes until that hour was up, I got a call saying don't come for ANOTHER hour. I said I was told twice it would only take one hour total. She said right but I was slammed with walk-in nail trims so I didn't get to your dog right away so come back in an hour. I'm not sure I agree with dogs with appointments being left in kennels while they tend to walk-in dogs getting their nails trimmed first, but it appears that's how this Petsmart works. Isn't there a point where Petsmart says we need to keep our appointment times on track and some of these walk-in need to wait? Apparently not. In the end, she agreed to have him completed in 90 minutes because I disagreed with giving them an extra hour. My dog, Toby, and I have done several classes at this Petsmart! I adopted him almost a year ago and after a few days with him knew we needed some assistance. I was hesitant at first. Considered using independent trainers but had heard from a few friends that they had a good experience at other Petsmart stores, so I thought I'd give it a shot. So glad that I did. Toby has completed the Beginner and Intermediate classes and we are almost finished with our second round of private sessions. Liz (our trainer) has been wonderful. She was very patient in the beginner class and I felt like she gave individual attention to each person and their dog. She took every opportunity as a teaching moment! If a dog was barking, lunging, or doing something else, she ensured the whole class learned what we could do if our dogs did the same. As we progressed through intermediate class Liz was available to answer questions and provide guidance on what direction I should go with Toby's training. She has continued to be available to answer questions at any time! Very glad that I gave Petsmart the opportunity to help me train my dog! Not only did Liz help train Toby but she trained me to train Toby. I feel like I have the skills to work with Toby and continue to reinforce behaviors in the future! I highly recommend Liz and am very thankful that I took the chance on Petsmart!! read more

We are enrolled with our puppy in training classes. I've read the other review but would like it to be known we've had the complete opposite experience. We love our trainer Dani! She goes above and beyond to help us with our puppy. She takes extra time to give us suggestions. She even offered to help us when our dog gets groomed because our dog is so terrified. Its hard to find someone who genuinely cares about your dog. But we have found her. I love her so much that I male one of my friends drive 30 minutes to take his dog here. We have scene a complete turn around with our puppy. She does tricks and is warming up to people. Def recommend our training. . Five stars.. I'd give her six if I could read more

Do not enroll your dog in training here. I was super excited to get my puppy into some obedience classes so that he would learn the essentials and maybe make some new friends. The classes at this Petsmart are a joke. The room is extremely small, and the "trainer" basically reads a book to you about training. Our trainer had the personality of a brick wall and didn't even seem to like puppies very much. She told one couple their dog's behavior was "totally unacceptable." I can't believe that they came back the next week. To learn loose-leash walking, she told us to walk our dog around the store. There was no direction, there was no lesson. We just literally walked our dog around the store. Nothing changed, and neither us nor our puppy learned a thing. When we got back, she told us about how HER dogs could get laundry for her and take beer cans to the trash. That's cool --- how about you teach me and MY puppy something now? Anything...! After two weeks of sitting through the course of which I learned absolutely nothing, I decided to call Petsmart customer care and explain the situation and let them know that we are no longer interested in continuing. I told them I would much rather take the $120 I spent there and apply it to a real accredited trainer that would help my puppy learn some things. The customer care representative assured me that the store manager would contact me shortly and help me sort everything out. Here I am, 4 days later, and I haven't heard a thing from the store manager. I'm frustrated beyond belief, and when I just called customer care back to check on the situation, the person on the phone said "it could take up to 5 days for a manager to get back to you." I politely told her that the next class in the course is coming up quickly and I would like to have this resolved before then. Do you know what she told me? "It could take up to 5 days for a manager to get back to you." Repeatedly. It shouldn't take 5 days for any retail establishment to contact you about an issue. Just a warning to everyone out there - go to a website like apdt.com or something and find yourself a legit trainer instead of dealing with the nonsense that Petsmart calls dog training. You would be better off watching YouTube videos and learning how to be a dog trainer yourself. read more

The women here are very nice, but I was extremely dissatisfied with the grooming services that they offer. I was told that my dog was a danger to himself and to them and that they could not continue to groom him there because of this. I was informed that I would need to sedate my dog, a miniature labradoodle, in order to have him groomed anywhere. I was not content with this so I called around and relayed this information to some other places and ended up at You Dirty Dog who has had not one issue with him. As a matter of fact, they found mats in his paws and an ear infection cleaned his sanitary areas, free of charge and told me to come back when the infection was cleared. I did, today, and he left happy and fully groomed today when I picked him up. Needless to say I will never be returning to Pet Smart for grooming services. read more

My mom use to take me to the groomer at my vets. Unfortunately, I was treated badly and cut several times, and they never told my mom about it. Then my mom decided to take me to PetSmart. From my first visit, I was treated like a prince! Brittany takes such good care of me and makes sure I look my best for snuggling with my family on the couch or walking the neighborhood. She allows me to visit with the other dogs and groomers. I feel like a celebrity whenever I am there. She treats me like how my mommy treats me: with love and respect. I called the groomers to make an appointment to get my longhair cat trimmed. They told me they only offer packages that include a bath, haircut, ear cleaning, and nail trim. Even though my kitty only really needed a haircut, I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. Fast forward. Got my kitty into her carrier, drove 20 minutes to Petsmart with her crying the whole time, only for the groomer to tell me they don't offer trims for cats, only shaves. My kitty has long, pretty fur. I don't want to shave her, she only needs a trim. Essentially, too bad so sad. Drove back home 20 minutes. My cat does not like car rides and not only did Petsmart waste my time and gas, they made me feel horrible for dragging my kitty on a car ride for no reason. Thanks a lot, Petsmart. read more

So first and foremost I would like to acknowledge that there are is a not so wonderful review of the dog training offered by this particular PetSmart location. While I've learned through my short time here on earth that it is impossible to please everyone, I do implore that you take my review into consideration when considering having your training done at this PetSmart. Firstly, this class is not a dog training class, but more of a people training class. This class is designed to train you to help you train your dog, which you will do along the way. Any problems, tell the trainer. My trainer, Dani, is wonderful, passionate, and is skilled in her area of work. She sends us out to do loose leash walking around store so we can learn to do so in distracting environments that we will encounter in the real world, not just a dog training kennel. She is very upfront and honest while maintaining a positive environment, which is what a new pet owner needs in order to have a well trained puppy. I personally feel like I've really benefited. Not only does my dog get great socialization in these classes, but I have a wonderful guide who has fully answered every question I've asked (and there have been a few!) and is extremely friendly. The store may be small, but for that they make up in friendly personnel and good services. read more

I enrolled my puppy in the training class with Dani. I was concerned that there was no hope for my puppy... I adopted him and he had no stability before he came into my life. He was unsure of who to trust and was not willing to listen to anything that anyone had to say. I heard that Dani was the most helpful trainer from a reliable source, and decided to enroll in the class. I live north of Cincinnati and drive to the Newport location every Saturday. After almost completing the training, I have noticed a complete turnaround in my dog. He no longer urinates in his cage, has learned to sit, stay, lay down, and many other commands. Before the first class, he was not able to pay enough attention to anyone attempting to give him any direction. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to gain some basic knowledge on puppy training as well as techniques to maintain improvements in behaviors. You can't walk into a training course expecting to see a miracle. The courses are not designed for someone else to train your dog for you-- it is to gain the tools and knowledge to teach your own dog things that you were unable to. Unrealistic expectations paired with low-class and incompetent individuals resulted in a negative review. I have recommended this training course to anyone looking for training for their canine, and will continue to do so. Dani is a wonderful trainer and has made herself available beyond the time constraints of class time. She has also made phenomenal suggestions for my puppy. Writing reviews is not my thing but after reading comments regarding a training instructor at Newport PetSmart, I feel compelled to make a statement. My 10 mo Jack Russell Terrier and I recently completed puppy class with the instructor that was blasted in a previous review. My experience w/ Dani was excellent. She is always available to answer questions or provide additional information - just ask. Our group requested an intermediate class be created so we could continue training w/ her. Training is what you make it. It is up to you to learn how to train your dog in class and apply training at home. It's unfair to blame a instructor b/c you don't get it. People who routinely read reviews know there is always one who can not be made happy - no matter what. I want those who are genuinely interested in a bonding experience w/ their dog to not be swayed by a disgruntled person's opinion. read more

Our dog is a very excitable hound dog who barks and carries on a lot when he is nervous. We typically do a light sedation when he is groomed or travels. Unfortunately the groomer does not accept a lightly sedated dog because they don't know how he will respond. One week to get him into the groomers, get there and they tell us they wont take him. I have been going to this location for over four years. Since I moved to downtown cincinnati I have been able to always rely on this location to take care of my slew of critters. Today I left disappointed and uncomfortable. I spoke with Michelle in the back about super worms for my bearded dragon. I didn't see any on the shelf, no big deal usually someone would skip to the back and be out with more in about thirty seconds. When I spoke to Michelle she seemed annoyed and irritated like I should have just left when I didn't see any. No problem, I work customer service. I assumed she may be having a bad day and went to go ask someone else. When I went to ask someone else they immediately called her over the headset to ask. WHEN I TELL YOU I COULD HEAR THIS WOMAN SCREAM. "I JUST TOLD HER THERE WERENT ANY". The other very polite employee apologized and said they had a lot going on and to come back later. I've worked customer service (food industry and retail) for almost ten years and I have NEVER been made to feel so unwelcome in my life. I was informed that Michelle is management, and I can 100% say as someone who ran a business that there is no way in hell I would ever let this woman lead a group of people. I will not be back to this location. In the four years that I've been attending and shopping this location I have never seen such a sour attitude walk through the building. It has nothing to do with not being able to get my lizard his word and everything to do with not wanting to ever encounter this person ever again. read more

We took our two miniature dachshund puppies for their first grooming after being cleared by the vet/completing their puppy shots. We didn't have any particular expectations. One puppy is short haired (so this was mostly just getting a bath/nails trimmed and getting used to the grooming process. The other pup is a broken coat so needed a minor haircut/cleanup on his ears, paws and tail. PetSmart wasn't horrible, but they were barely average. We had 2pm appts with two different groomers. We arrived and the young lady said she would be doing both of them and it could take up to an two hours. I double checked our online Appt and no mention of wait times. It felt like they were overbooked vs this was normal practice. It would have been fine if we had known, but instead we had to fill time. The groomer seemed confused about the services we booked including that we had purchased an add on package (which frankly wasn't worth it). The add on included teeth brushing which I'm not sure she did, but also we had to remind her of the bandanna (and it was super cheap looking). Plus she forgot to trim our broken coat's tail which we had specifically asked for. Our groomer was very polite, cheerful and loving towards our dog on the positive side. But the service provided wasn't great. It's a bit of you get what you pay for. We will be looking for a better groomer moving forward and stay away from the chain stores. read more

My review is based on my training experience for my 8 month old boxer, Lucy. We just finished a 6 week beginner training session with Elizabeth Kozak-she is absolutely amazing! She is very professional and extremely knowledgeable and obviously loves working with dogs and their people. She is completely in-tune to her class and doesn't hesitate to make adjustments based on the client's (both pup's and people's) needs. I wouldn't recommend the Newport location to anyone! The staff is so uneducated on everything the sell. Animals and products, which is incredibly reckless for selling live animals. I get it, it's retail so it's more about profit than anything else. So of course they hire any one. Not only is the staff uneducated on the animals they sell but the animals are in deplorable condition! Some of the reptiles were just skin and bones. Like why would you display a dying animal for sale?! WHY!!! Also, the store is DISGUSTING. I walked into the bathrooms and right back out, there was clutter everywhere in the aisles (cant major stocking been done while the store is closed), and I just went in for dog food and there were bugs flying around the aisle with some on the dog food bags. The store clearly isn't cleaned regularly which is especially alarming amidst the covid pandemic. There also isn't anyone enforcing the STATE WIDE mask mandate, or how many people can be in the store. They have a convenient little table with masks and sanitizer but.... There were people walking into the store with no mask while I was checking out and nothing was said to them. Is the cashier suppose to stop what they're doing to tell a customer to put on a mask? If so that's outrageous because they only have one register open and when I got in line I was back by the fish tank aisle so for that person to stop every time someone walks in the door I would have never gotten to the cashier. I almost set the bag of food on the ground and left. I saw several employees walking around not doing a damn thing that could have helped with this insane line. During black Friday they have employees ring out your items while you're in line to help with long lines... does that little helpful device only work during the holiday season? Its not like they're too short staffed to do that. They have very poor customer service. There's maybe like 2 helpful employees that I have interacted with the last couple visits, but other than that you get shitty attitudes and "I don't KnOw". Even the "managers" I've talked to don't know what they're doing, and have bad attitudes. I had the "pleasure" of talking to the store manager once and O..M..G... where'd you find this idiot at? Seriously? I am a very experienced pet owner. I've been keeping reptiles and other exotics for more than 20 years and to hear the advice these employees give new pet owners is very sad. If you are a new pet owner, esp if you're getting an exotic pet, buy from a breeder that is knowledgeable and not from a chain pet store that hires high schoolers that know nothing about these animals. I've used this location since it first opened, and had never had a bad experience until store management changed. I enjoyed talking to that staff, they would always welcome people when they walked in the store, ask about your pets and all around sounded like they genuinely cared and seemed passionate about their job. They replaced the entire staff with idiots! I started going to Petvalu in cold springs bc the experience is so so so so so so much better and the animals look very well cared for and healthy. Plus the variety of animals they sell is so much better and it changes. The store is always clean and I don't have to step over or go around aisles due to stocking clutter blocking the way. But over the last few years they have hired the worst people and clearly these individuals don't care about the animals, they are just trying to sell. It's a shame. This place has become a joke! If you a hire a clown to run the store, they just bring in more clowns. read more
