I've never had a problem with a PetSmart until now. The girl who serviced my dog asked me first thing if I wanted an outline trim on Romeo. I said yes, and then reiterated profile cut (same thing). He comes back shaved. Luckily, she didn't shave him to the skin, but even the shave was not symmetrical! She tried to tell me that it was in the notes that he was shaved last time which is 100% untrue, especially given the fact that she asked me if I wanted an outline trim from the very beginning. I will avoid this PetSmart like the plague. read more

Jillian did an amazing job on our English Cream Sailor. After spending several months on our Vermont farm, Sailor was a mess complete with mats, tangles, and sediment from the river. After driving 30 minutes at 8:00 on a Sunday morning for an 8:30 appointmen, we were told the groomer called in sick. No other groomer available. Previous person posted same issue. I was told they tried to call me three times but it did not go through. She even showed me her phone with my number on it. I have not had any issues with my phone. read more

Take your dog ANYWHERE other than this grooming salon. Seriously. We were greeted by a girl (unfortunately I did not get her name) who was clearly unsure of what she was doing. Even with taking our information and entering our request of a nail trim and grind seemed difficult for her, as she was receiving instruction on what to do from a girl who was attending to another dog. She was clearly being trained. I was initially concerned, but assumed she was not going to be the one to be taking care of my dog as she didn't even know the computer system. My first mistake. Our dog was taken in for his service, which he's had many times before at the Mayfaire location, we walked out and shopped around the store. After about 20 minutes and we had checked out, I was concerned that he was still in there. Normally he's in and out in 7-10 minutes at the other location. I started observing what was going on through the glass and was torn about what to do. He was clearly distraught... pulling his whole body away from her, tail tucked, ears back. Her reaction was to snatch his back paw and drag him towards her. After watching this go on for a few minutes, my concern escalated. How long had this been going on? The whole time I'd been away? Who did I trust my baby with? Torn whether I should intervene or not - knowing if I did, the service would be over, as Rocco seeing me would probably make it worse - I decided to let her finish. My second mistake. The two other girls working all gathered around her at one point about 5 minutes before finishing. I can only imagine why. She was clearly not capable of handling this service on her own, even though she was left to do so. My signal to pick him up, 30 minutes after service start, was her making eye contact with me through the glass. I walked in and unfortunately, that pit in my stomach turned out to be right. His nails were cut down to nubs. Even bleeding on one of them. The girl assured me they weren't too short. But when I mentioned blood, the girl who was training her came over and said "well, he's not actively bleeding anymore." As if that was supposed to be some kind of comfort? She told me that because there was blood, they were not going to charge me. No apology at all? She told me that they were training. But her method of training must be throw them to the wolves until something goes wrong. As that was the only time she was assisting her. Too busy with her own services to tend to. I responded with the fact that I should have been informed that my dog was going to be "trained" on. And he suffered for it. His nails are so incredibly short that they couldn't even grind them. So short that he bled. He was traumatized all day. Not his peppy, playful self. Curled up and sad. Any time he puts his paw on me, his nails scratch my skin so much from not being filed after being clipped down too much. And there's nothing I can do about it until they grow out. I am appalled by the lack of training and common sense that was in this grooming salon. A dog lets you know if there's an issue. The fact that you can pull on him and drag him across the table even after he's telling you something is wrong is disgusting. And this was just a nail trim! I can only imagine what kind of treatment these animals are receiving with other services here. I'm warning you, STAY AWAY. read more

Bought fish pebbles for my aquarium of 16 fish. The pebbles were on clearance for $4 compared to between $6 $8. There is mold that constantly forms on these pebbles. No matter how I clean them. I recommend any pet stores. If you know that rocks are bad and will mold because of whatever chemicals on them, that you take them completely off the shelves! I now have 7 fish out of 16 that are alive still. Some of them have costed me over $40. I'm highly upset with this store!! read more

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! The grooming department was terrible. Before the groomer even said hello to my golden she was making negative comments based on a note from the other location that he does like to stand the whole time, the other location has never even mentioned this so I can't imagine it's a big deal. Kat added an extra charge before doing anything with my dog because it may take work to wash and cut his hair. I didn't get a positive feeling from her at all but still moved forward, wrong choice. I had a medical appointment to go to, when I got out and checked my phone I had multiple voice mails, texts, and calls from Petsmart. The messages were rude and said my dog was too scared for them to groom him and I needed to pick him up immediately. The third message was unprofessional and unnecessary, "we have called multiple times and requested for you to pick up your dog...NOW. He is too scared for us to do anything with him, how many more times do we need to call". My dog is a 7 year old golden and is mellow, sweet, and a big mush that wants love. I have never had a groomer or someone that works with animals treat him like that. I will stay with the PerSmart on College in Monkey Junction, I guess there is a reason they are booked out and this location had next day appointments. read more

Great place, my dog gets pretty excited. Runs, smells, and is especially interested in the large variety of raw-hides. Nice people, always friendly. We do a Banfield pet plan so we're in here alot. Honestly more expensive than ordering things online like Amazon, etc, but very convenient to our home. I look here and if their prices are close, I'll buy here, but if out of whack, then I'm looking at Costco or Amazon. I may need some training aids for my rambunctious pup - 80 pounds and likes to greet my elderly neighbors with force and love - nothing like picking up grandma off the pavement, profusely apologizing - fortunately this hasn't happened - yet! But these guys get alot of my dog-cash because they have everything and are completely friendly. read more

Actually, my review is less than no stars! MY VISIT to Pet Smart Grooming was a NIGHTMARE! I made a BIG. . . mistake by taking my shih-tsu to Elizabeth to trim. She put my dog's hair into pigtails without me asking her to, and it tore both her ears, with the right ear ripped halfway down. When I took off the VERY tight rubber bands, my dog screamed repeatedly - It was a horrible sound! The vet said the hair behind her ear was in a whorl that would pull the ear off even more and make her lose that hair. Every time I see my dog's ears I feel guilty read more

Took my dog in to get her very long nails trimmed. Britt was great and very gentle with my nervous dog. They even trimmed some kind of yuck out if her back legs (I think old dried poo!). Did a nice job and were so kind to my dog. I'm new to the area and will be back for sure! read more

Over the course of nine years living in Wilmington and having been to other pet stores in the area, I believe that Petsmart is worth paying a little bit more. Staff is friendly and will help you find what you need and they have carried heavy bags for me several times. My dogs enjoy going in the store and sniffing all the products and other visitors. Unfortunately there will always be irresponsible pet owners that won't clean up after an accidental mess a pet makes, but I've seen employees cleaning up promptly when notified of a mess. The selection of toys and other pet products is very good and well within average for pet products. My dogs love the nylabones and kong toys and they last a long time. We just tried out the "Pethead" shampoo as well, and it smells really good. All the collars we've ever gotten for our dogs have come from Petsmart. The plain leather is really sturdy (even after the beach several times a year) and looks good. I get one dog more embellished collars with rhinestones or bows and they hold up equally as well. Having the tag-maker at the entrance makes it so easy to keep your pet's ID tags updated. We have purchased betta fish from Petsmart and each one lived over a year, one of them lived for over 2 years! We have visited several of the pet adoption fairs and that is where we adopted both our dogs. I like that they have the fairs as most people do not realize that the no-kill shelters you support with at these fairs do not have the resources to be open for you to come "shop" for a pet. Being fervently against shelters that euthanize, I am happy to donate or adopt at the fairs and have never regretted my decision to do so even though one puppy came home as a surprise to my husband and a little to myself. My one caveat with Petsmart is that they do not carry the food we currently have to buy for one of our dogs due to her allergies and we have to go to Pets Plus to get it. It's a vastly different experience, and Petsmart trumps them in every way aside from actually having that brand of food. Online purchases are a snap with this company too. I got charms for my dog's collars online and they are good quality and sturdy. I've never used the grooming service at Petsmart, but we have used Banfield as our vet and probably still would had we not moved across the bridge. read more

I took my pug to be groomed. I made my appointment online in advanced. The day of I dropped my pug off and they told me it would be 1 to two hours. I left the store to run errands and about two hours later I called to check in since I hadn't heard anything from them. They told me a groomer had called out and it would be an extra 45 mind or so.... So I waited and waited and waited. 6 hours later he was "groomed". I had to cancel his paint stencil that was suppose to be a sunrise for my girlfriend. He sat in a cage for 6 hours. I was furious. I hope they took him out but u doubt it. I watched them rush through his toe nail trimming. I am so dissapointed. No apology. They even lied every time I called. Never again. I don't recommend there service and they lie. Petsmart.... Honestly, I do not normally enter into these stores because I do but have any dogs, nor do I like dogs our any other types of pet to begin with (besides gold fish). So with that in mind, I cannot tell you how a normal petsmart normally operates, but I can tell you that since it's a retail store, customer service must exist.... Everything was fine when we came in, but the cashier had the worst attitude, totally rude and disrespectful for no apparent reason. It made me quite uncomfortable (to be honest). Plus, I'm from California, so I was totally expecting some southern hospitality. Sadly, we didn't feel too welcome here. But at the end of the day, we walked out with toys and snacks for the doggies so I guess that is all that matters. read more

This is a review for the grooming services, specifically. I brought my dog in for a nail clipping or grinding. I hadn't gotten either service before, so I asked them which one they would recommend for a dog who scratches himself. I ended up getting a nail grinding service and added an ear cleaning (my dog is a Spaniel, long curly haired ears). The total ended up being considerably less than I expected and both services were completed within about 10 minutes, I went out and picked up some dogs treats while they groomed him. They were sweet to my dog and have glass windows so you can watch, this made me feel very comfortable shopping around while I waited. So nail grinding and ear cleaning in under 10 minutes for less than $15? I think I'll bring my dog in on a monthly basis. :) read more

I want to like Petsmart. But it's the employees that ruin it for me. On one trip a rep from some dog food company cornered me and talked on and on about food for my puppy. I told her I had plenty but she didn't get the point. Employees walked by but did nothing. On several other occasions a woman asked if I had signed my puppy up for training yet. I told her no, but she wouldn't let it go. The first time, I told her my vet told me to wait until her parvo shots were done. She basically told me the vet was wrong. This poor puppy waited for 5 hours and was shaking when she was picked up. The typical Petsmart. Fish tanks were kinda dirty. They barely had any small pets. I think maybe two lizards, one boa, and two rabbits. The rabbits were cute but seemed they would only go as a pair. We went to adopt a kitten in which we successfully did. Wasn't a bad experience other than the last wanted to know every single detail about our life. Also, if you adopt bring your own crate because they will not let you leave the store without the animal being in a crate. You do get a free bag of food and some pretty food coupons. Wasn't good or bad I guess in the end. Just your every day run of the mill big chain store. read more

I had pretty good luck with grooming until my last visit! My sweet cavalier was shaved and her tail was cut completely back. Not sure how long it will be until she ever looks the same. If you need your dog shaved they can do it. If you need your dog groomed, I'd stay away. read more

I took my dog to get groomed and they did an awesome job. It took a bit longer than expected but the cut was the best I've ever seen her. The cashier that checked me out seemed uneducated and was taking forever with every customer telling them not to buy things they were trying to purchase. The person that was a head of me was buying a brush and she was telling the customer to just buy a brush from the dollar store for his dog...wow. He's at checkout just scan the brush and take his money. Very annoying, luckily she said it was her last day. I am so disappointed and frustrated. I used to be really pleased with my Petsmart grooming experiences but in the last 6 months or so, it is a complete shit show. It's a bunch of 22 year old girls running the show who have no idea what's going on. A few weeks ago, I made a nail appointment. On the day of the appointment, I called to let them know I might be a few minutes late and they told me I didn't have an appointment. I ensured them I made an appointment the day before but they wouldn't let me come in. I made a new appointment and asked if I would get a confirmation of the appointment. The associate said no because they don't actually put the appointments in the computer; they write it down on a piece of paper "because of so many cancellations" (or maybe you never wrote it down?!). When I called for the rescheduled appointment, the associate again told me that they didn't have my appointment but then finally found it "on a sticky note." What kind of organization is this?! None. When I went, I was pleasantly surprised that they said they would check/clean ears, teeth etc along with the nail grind. However, when I went for my next appointment, they did not do that and the nails were uneven. This last time, I called yesterday to see if I needed an appointment and they said I could walk in but not that day because they weren't taking any more nail grinds for the day (it was 11 am) but she said I could come in the next day (today) any time. I asked if they recommended a certain time since clearly it wasn't a good time at the time of my call. She talked to another associate and then changed her mind and said that I DO actually have to make an appointment. I made an appointment for 11 today. I got there a few minutes early; there were already a person and dog in the salon and another lady and her dog waiting, so I also waited with my dog.... 15 minutes past my appointment time. As the lady in front of me went into the salon, I noticed her little dog was COVERED IN FLEAS. Through the glass door, I see the associate combing her BARE fingers through the dog's coat and hear her telling the lady she's "not allowed" to groom the dog. I waited several more minutes and left. After two phone calls, I finally got through. I told the girl that I was not following through with my appointment today because 1- I waited 15 minutes and 2- I'm not taking my dog in there after she spread fleas everywhere. She said I should have my dog pre-treated for fleas so it shouldn't be a problem. I take all the necessary precautions for MY dog but when you run your fingers through a flea-infested dog, you're not going to touch mine, whether she's treated or not. I asked what they do when they have a dog come in covered in fleas (hoping they would clean the waiting area in some way) and she said they give the dog a flea bath. She actually said to me "I don't know what you expect us to do." I told her It's one thing after another and I'm not coming back. She said "that's fine, have a lovely day." These people DO NOT CARE about return business. Where is a MANAGER or OWNER who actually cares about clients?! No organization for appointments, different services with the same type of appointment, no cleaning protocols and no customer service!! They used to have highly trained, professional people in there so I don't know what happened but I'm over it. read more

We took our dog to be bathed and groomed. When we picked her up our dog was NOT BATHED just dry shampooed and sprayed with a powder scent. We Purchased a full bath package but our dog did not receive it. I went back they apologized ( did not deny it ) and stated they would make good on it, to come back in a couple of hours. Well, we did and when we returned 3 hours later our dog was still sitting in a cage having had NOTHING DONE !! We took our dog and got out of that place !!! I would not suggest anyone take their pets there to be groomed. I dropped our dog off to be groomed at 10:00am, after making an appointment two days before. The groomer went over what I wanted done for her, and she said that she had one dog to finish up before starting on our dog. I received a call from the groomer, Lindsey, at 11:09am, stating that she had nicked her, and had taken her over to Banfield (the veterinarian) to be examined. Lindsey stated that our dog had been examined, the wound wasn't bad, had been dressed with skin glue and that she'd be finishing her up. I asked if my dog was okay; she said the dog was fine and she'd be finished up soon. I received a call from Lindsey at 12:56pm, stating that our dog hadn't been examined yet and that her shift was ending in an hour so she wasn't going to be able to finish her today. Lindsey said that I could bring my dog back another day to finish the grooming and that we wouldn't have to pay for today's grooming or the finishing next time. Lindsey then proceeded to hang up on me. I received a call from the vet from Banfield, stating that they had our dog now and would be treating her. I was told that she would be ready to be picked up in a few hours. By this point, I am pulling into the store parking lot. I must say, the staff at Banfield was more than polite, and extremely apologetic. The staff there told me what they knew to have happened, and reassured me that they would try to treat her as soon and quickly as possible. The staff at Banfield called the store/grooming manager over to make sure that they were covering the cost of this visit; the manager came over, and after he was told who I was, he never came over to apologize or say anything. The vet (Dr. Toler) came over to explain the treatment plan, and to make sure I had a clear understanding of what needed to be done at home. She was great. After finishing up with the vet, I did want to speak with the manager to make sure we had each other's information, in case we had to make a return visit to the vet for treatment. The manager, Shane, seemed annoyed that I asked to speak to him and had an attitude. Shane then began making excuses for the groomers and why they had cut our dog, stating that they were short staffed and "we didn't want to cancel on you because we are short staffed". Almost making it seem like it was okay that they cut our dog, because they did us a favor to keep her appointment and it's not their fault. Unacceptable!! We will never take our dog back there to be groomed. This "nick" is a deep, cut that is now swollen. Beware taking your animals to this groomer! read more

I have been a loyal customer for years. Petsmart is the first place I go for pet needs. Over the last 6 months the Petsmart experienc jhas been frustrating. I visit once a week to purchase crickets. There is usually no one around to help. I have waited more than ten minutes. I have gone to the cashier to receive assistance. I have even been told by someone that he wasn't allowed to help with the crickets. When someone does help the attitude is generally poor. Today I waited and finally left. It isn't worth it when I can go somewhere else. Petsmart you have lost a customer. read more

Do not take your pet here. Vet care from banfield was awful. I took my pup when he wasn't feeling well, and wouldn't you know... After several hundred dollars spent, my poor pup still felt bad. Went to an actual vet and bam... Problem solved. NEVER take your dog to be trained here, one of their trainers told a woman he would put a bullet in the dogs head if he couldn't control them. So this petsmart has an incompetent vet clinic, poor customer service, and trainers that should be nowhere near animals. Will never go to this location again, and probably never another petsmart again. Would give less than a star if possible. read more

In terms of grooming, randy and jimmy are great and I highly recommend them. I would NOT recommend any of the other stylists. Only those two. The salon is often way behind schedule and very unorganized. When I have used other groomers I've been annoyed buy the quality of the haircut and how long it takes. read more

Let's start with the day I can in to get a snail for my fish tank...the little girl working that day told me IN FRONT OF MY 4 YEAR OLD CHILD! that the goldfish I had gotten from the fair would probably die. Bought a snail anyways. Less than a week later the snail was dead- my fair goldfish is still alive. A few weeks later I went back to get another snail and a second goldfish. My 20 gallon tank was established with the fair fish doing fine.... I get the new goldfish home and it has Ick!! Probably contaminating my tank now, too! So, dead snail and dying fish from PetSmart. Taking it back tomorrow. I don't want my $3 back. I want them to get some quality trained employees in there who know what they are doing!! And they can explain to my child why every time he gets a new aquatic creature from there it's either dead in a matter of days or dying! I can't speak for the entire store, but the college kids running the aquarium section are complete idiots and have no clue what they are talking about.
