PetSmart is unfortunately a big-box pet store, which in and of itself typically means many bad things for the pets they carry. However, I have to say, compared to some other pet stores, PetSmart does a fairly decent job. For starters, most of the staff is friendly, or at least friendly enough to be polite. Some of their staff are really good, qualified individuals, who know most of what they're talking about, and seem to actually have an interest/care in animals. Most of the animals are pretty well cared for (again, as far as big pet stores go). For most pet purchases such as fish or hamsters, I would definitely recommend PetSmart or Gaisers if in the Yuba area. PetSmart carries many necessary pet care items at good prices, including good prices on cat/dog food since you can buy the bulk bags. I've also used the grooming service (which I will review at some point on that yelp page itself), but I did want to mention that they do an OK job, but its hit or miss depending on the person; one person groomed our miniature poodle excellent, and really knew what they were doing and did just a fantastic job, the other time someone just took electric clippers on a low cut setting to him and that was it... Between the service, selection, and prices, I'm a pretty regular shopper (having 7 aquariums, 1 hamster, 2 dogs, and 1 cat means you have to frequent pet stores). read more

I take my cat here and marqi is really the best! We get a lion cut or bob cat cut monthly and she does awesome every time! My baby is old and they do their best for accommodating, ie not using the loud dryer etc. The people at the register are always pleasant and they always have an awesome selection of costumes and clothes! Friendly staff. Clean facility. Their training had a few bad seed on the patron side but I guess they can't kick a dog out because their owner is rude. The only thing I really hate about PetSmart is how they lie on their reptile and animal cages about how long the animals will live to make them seem like less of a commitment. My dog has been getting groomed here the last year but yesterday we tried a new groomer since her favorite one moved. Not knowing who else to choose, I chose the manager thinking she'd do a flawless job. I showed her pictures of how I wanted my dog cut and we agreed upon how short to go, I also had said I wanted her tail trimmed. When I went to pick her up I noticed my dog's body and feet were trimmed but that was all, super long Pomeranian style tail and shaggy ears and face. It was not a good look and I was mad having asked her to trim the tail and assuming she'd trim her face and ears from the photos I showed her. I almost didn't speak up but I said to myself if I'm about to spend almost $70 my dog should look how I want her to and not have to go home and have more work for myself and trim her myself. So the manager trimmed her tail but I figured I'd just do her ears at home since it was right before closing and she seemed busy. My poor dog was so happy to come home and see me and I had to send her back in for the tail trim and she was having so much anxiety. I was not and still not happy and won't be going back. Time to figure out how to trim her ears and find a new groomer ;( read more

I have a "less than focused" husky, and he has grown and learned amazingly with Mary Ann guiding our training. I have trained several dogs with other trainers in my life and have been very impressed with Mary Ann and her skills and knowledge. After completing puppy class at 4 months, we returned when he was 9 and a half months for intermediate training. We are almost finished with class, and I could not be happier with my young fellow. Kudos to Mary Ann and PetSmart. Take your dog there; you will be very impressed as well. read more

I was told it was okay to get here early to drop my car off before work and then when I got here, was told that was incorrect. I will now be late for work and have to wait. I live 40 minutes away and work another 20 minutes in different direction. This was made clear when I made appointment to drop off before work and pick up after work. Horrible customer service. I would give them 5 stars In the negative if I could. I took my dogs in for a bath and brush. I have a male yellow lab and a female border collie mix. When I picked the dogs up I was in a hurry. Paid and left. Several hours later I took the dogs for their evening walk and much to my surprise and dismay I realized they used some type of a bladed brush on my lab. It appeared to only have been used on his sides and hips where his under coat is the thickest. I've had my 7.5 year old lab since he was a puppy, I brush him at least once a week, I touch him every day. I know my dogs fur, its color and texture. I took him back to the groomer salon. The two employees in the grooming salon were argumentative and rude. Insisting that my dog was old, he came in dirty, they said this coat was now CLEAN and it was BRIGHTER. I requested to speak to a manager. The young man that came up and barely said a few words, just allowed the other employees to continue to be rude. As I left the salon one of the employees said "have a nice day". Yep you guessed it high voice and incredibly insincere. She said it IN FRONT of the manager....he never said a word. I was a week to the day before the REAL store manager ever contacted me. He was very apologetic but did not offer any recompense. Didn't acknowledge that the groomers used a bladed brush. That's it - I'm done with Petsmart, I'll take my dogs elsewhere for grooming, purchase their food, toys, and other supplies at VIP Pets or Petco. read more

I recently purchased a parakeet from here the parakeet acted extremely strange even afraid, the parakeet from what I could tell is not regularly handled by employees however the bird was in great health and well fed. I continue to make progress taming her. Lacks customer service it took me around 10 minutes trying to find help when attempting to purchase although they offer better prices for toys and food for parakeets. There is a younger guy who specializes with all the snakes and reptiles who was extremely helpful and passionate when my husband and I visited the store on 02/12/20. Unfortunately, we dont remember his name, but he was very knowledgeable and helpful and we greatly appreciated it! Another employee, Breeanna K was awesome and helped us get exactly what we needed to setup 2 new vivariums for our frogs, while being considerably cost effective. Super friendly and helpful employees who seem to really love there job. Prices are the best I have seem to come across in town for quality of the merchandise and pet store. My only complaint would be with the grooming department. I asked them to give my yorkie a full body trim and they didn't saying he wasn't use to the clippers yet and squirmed. So we took our dog home that same night and he didn't move and stood still the whole time we trimmed his whole body. We don't plan of going back there at all for trimming. But I do love the store it's self read more

In the past I would have said this place was great. But the last time I took my little guy there for a bath, stomach and sanitary cut,and nails trimmed. The person who shaved his stomach, shaved two nipples off because they shaved too close to the skin. Also, they told me they were taking care of his anal glands. But they only do the outside not the inside too. If I had known that, I could have made sure the inside glands were cleaned too. Because $400 later, I had to take him in today for an emergency excretion. There was blood all over him. read more

I have a 12 year old Yorkie mix who I have taken to multiple groomers in the past. I really wanted to find a groomer that I really felt genuinely loved animals and liked what they do as a groomer. I decided to take her to Petsmart Grooming Salon because i read some excellent reviews about the groomers there. I chose Markee as Juliet's groomer and I couldnt be happier! Markee is so great with my Juliet, she is scared of going to the groomer(she always has been this way) and Markee always is so friendly and gentle with her. She really knows what shes doing with the clippers, and really takes the time to make my dog look great! I love how Markee always takes the time to write down what was done and how Juliet did during her grooming sessions. I wont take my doganywhere else! I highly recommend this grooming salon for you're pet, they are truly the best! read more

Today I had an appointment for my cat to be given a kitten bath and trim at 9 a.m. by Jasmine H. I had to book over a week in advance so all week I was very eager for it and couldn't wait to have my cat looking and feeling fresh happy. This was not the case. The woman performing this service was late and acted in a rush to get him in and hardly talked about the appointment details, just had me sign papers. Didn't explain to me what she was doing exactly, I had to go back online as I was waiting for him to see everything they were doing to him. Online said this service included a blow dry and 15 minutes brushing, but when I got my cat back the majority of his back was still very wet and obviously not blow dried. Leaving with his back wet made my cat extremely uncomfortable as it was only 9 a.m. and very cold inside and outside the store. His tushy was still dirty also, I asked her to trim some long hairs he had on his legs she told me no and didn't they get trimmed. She didnt tell me any products she used on my cat which I think is very sneaky and unprofessional. I am extremely unsatisfied with this visit and upset with myself I caused my cat this stress, as I probably could've given him the same "service" for free at home. read more

I signed up my 9month old lab for training. She had a few issues I thought the training class could address. I had explained to the trainer prior to enrollment what the issues were. She said, No problem. On the day of class there was another dog enrolled. The trainer spent the bulk of the hour with that other dog. I did not go to the training the next week. I went in a few days after the second session and asked for my money back. Dee Dee was called up front to speak to me. I explained what had happened and requested my money back. She then called up the store manager. Both had told it would not be a problem to get a refund. Ten minutes later I am being told that they cant give me a refund without the reciept. I explained they should have a copy of it with the training class. They quickly found the reciept. They then told me again they needed a copy if my reciept even though they had their own copy in their hands. I explained I would have ti drive home abd then drive back, why couldnt they just issue a refund now, they have all the info. Then the manager said she could give me a stire credit. I said I want my money back. They then said a store credit is all they could do. I left. I came back about three minutes later abd asked for the corporate number. Then the manager asked to see my credit card. She proceeded to write down my card number on a piece of paper. I was shocked. Why I asked was she doing that. So she could look up the info to give me a refund she said. Then she took that piece of paper with her to a roon where she closed the door. Oh no. I said, you need to come back out here with that credit card number. You have the receipt in your hands. You have the info. Ive given you my name, my dogs name and I want a refubd right now. A few minutes went by after the manager left me and then Dee Dee came back and sais. We'll handle this at this register. I finally got my refund and left the store. Not real pleased with the way things were handled and definately not pleased with their training sessions. read more

the store stinks when you enter and it is a constant mess with carts of stocking stuff left in the middle,of aisles. the store was not like this in April. I used the grooming salon and it was dirty but the groomer Sierra seems to have done,a decent job. I won't be back to the store until they get their act together. Perfect place to count on for all my pets needs. I have 3 chihuahuas whom my husband and I see as our children. I have 3 different diets to meed each dogs needs and PetMart has the food in stock at a good price. However ProPlan seems to always be on sale. Prices here are otherwise pretty high compared to Walmart and other such retailers. When possible I will pay the higher price for the professionalism and friendliness of the Petsmart team. I used to use this place but found a much better groomer at Petco. I read reviews and agree some of the workers seem like they just do not like working with pets or the public. My dog needed groomed again in two weeks, usually it lasts for at least four or five weeks. They acted irrated to help me. It is way overpriced and cheaper at my new groomer. And they know me by name and are happy to see me. I will never use petsmarts groomers again. Where do they train anyways? I heard they send them to training and it is a 3 day course. Are you kidding me? I love my dog way to much to have someone with little experience take grooming shears to him and her. I waited outside once while they were finishing up and I do not like the way I seen the dogs handled. No Way.... NEver again. read more

I am utterly disappointed in my last visit to the grooming salon at PetSmart in Yuba City, CA. I have taken my two little dogs, a Yorkie and Yorkie-Poo, many times over the years to be groomed at their salon. Today was a new experience - when they called to say my dogs were ready for pick up, the girl said they "couldn't finish the Yorkie because he seemed to stressed out." In my experience, the groomer themselves can have a big impact on a dog's mood while being groomed...and I have NEVER once had any other grooming salon have anything other than positive things to say about my dogs' behavior while at a salon - and NEVER EVER has any salon failed to complete the service requested. When I complained (politely) about this, I was told I could bring him back another day to be finished. With my work schedule this would be beyond difficult and besides, wouldn't a 2nd trip to the groomers been just as if not more stressful for my dog? I expressed my dissatisfaction at the cashier's counter and informed them I would not be bringing my dogs back there to be groomed ever again - in return, the cashier was only able to offer me a discount on their NEXT visit....REALLY???? read more

For some reason people have this unfounded notion that Petsmart groomers are not up to par, or perhaps not comparable to staff at other private grooming businesses. I have to say that we have always been pleased with the service that our pup has received. Our fur baby is 4 years old now and he has been going to Petsmart (two different locations, because of a move) since he joined our family. He's a poodle, so sometimes his hair can be a challenged, but they always do their best to get his cut just right, and if there's an issue (such a matting or the like) they even call to let us know, so that we are aware that his "hair do" might be a bit shorter (or something similar) so that we have a heads up before we pick him up from his appointment. If your skeptical, give them a try. Our pup is our "first child" and we trust the girls in the grooming center to keep him looking handsome anytime we take him in. :) read more

I am appaled at this large chain stores ability to care for their reptiles. Multiple times now I have gone in and seen reptiles in bad conditions, skeletal, and neglected. When I bought my leatherback bearded dragon, because they are the only store that has them right now there was a hatchling in there that one of the larger dragons tryed to eat, and they LEFT IT THERE. Ive seen leopard gecko's with tails so skinny you can see the bones, and they have a ball python in there right now that is skinny as crap. With the money that this company brings in you would think they could higher people who know what they are doing, and when you bring up a situation they just brush it off and ignore it. read more
