Very costly Veterinary services for starters. They did miss my dogs ear infection and had to come back and get seen again. Only to pay for more meds. last appointment. Next time I had called and made an appointment on a Thursday and was told to come 430pm. I showed up at to my appointment 4:35 only to be told my appointment was at 4:00 instead on a Friday evening. Was sent away with no help. The Vett said his appointment already late, so he turned us away. My dog was very sick and needed to be seen. I cannot recommend this doctor. read more

I have used this veterinary clinic for three labs over past 12 years. They are so good. Recently my 10 month old lab was neutered and had a bit of a rough go because he is so big and hard to keep calm. Three days after the initial surgery he tore his stitches out and had to go in to get new stitches. It was a three week recovery vs 10 days normal. We were set to fly out for a family vacation and he was not fully recovered. The vet and staff watched him while we were away and we came home and he was fully recovered and very happy. They saved us from cancelling the vacation. They went well beyond normal customer service to help our valuable family member. The doctor and staff always treat our pets and us well. They really care about their patients and owners. We are so happy to have them as our puppy's vet. Our lab loves going in, which shows how well he gets treated. read more

The veterinarians who work here are knowledgeable and caring. The communication between veterinarian and pet owner is honest and straight forward. The care is five star. I love learning about caring for my animals and really appreciate the education I receive from the veterinarian every time I visit. Finding a competent veterinarian can be hard, but the vets at Pewee Valley are the best! read more

My older dog Baxter requires special assistance with techs as well as the Veterinarian to sit on the floor with us and treat him while allowing me to hold him. Unprofessional service. We gave them so much business over the years with 4 different dogs. One of the puppies moved to Maryland and needs them to call our local pharmacy for his heart-worm preventive medication. Over a period of 2 weeks i called them 4 times, with the latest update is that the vet themselves have to make the call. Come on, who are you fooling? Even for humans, doctors can have their assistants call in prescriptions. And yes physicians have emergencies to take care of too, but we still see clinic patients, call patients for results etc. Unacceptable practice. read more

I suggested needed a dental at appointment and was told my dog needed bloodwork before scheduling a dental. Agreed to and paid for the blood work. Never received a call back on the results or a phone call to schedule the dental appointment once the office at least received the blood work back. I called to schedule the dental appointment and a growth removal and was informed they don't give estimates on procedures... I guess you're just supposed to give them a blank check. I was given a guess of $200-300 total. Pressed to get a more exact budgetary cost and was told $700-1,100 cost. Then I asked for my animals medical records, nothing. I paid for bloodwork and cannot receive the results to help my two animals. read more

I have to say, the techs and doctors are very sweet and knowledgeable. However, I have switched vets to one down the road because of the front desk ladies. Brandice in particular. So rude with a poor attitude. Everything I have asked of her she made difficult. Not worth is with something like a vet. read more

After 15 years, I always appreciate the care we receive and confidence in the information I receive. The only suggestion I would give is to schedule dewclaw removal right after delivery (also vaccination shot schedule after 1st shot). If not immediately, then a reminder. For me very necessary (have missed before). Love these guys! read more

Akoya's first visit here today and BOY! the staff are great--Veryyyy amicable and caring!. I got slightly lost, was late to my appt and caused them to close later than their scheduled business hours, but the front desk as well as the DVM were still very empathetic and took their time to make sure Akoya was given all necessary care and treatment AND ALL My questions were answered ( and let me tell you, when it comes to my sweet AkoyaBear....this can become quite an arduous task for the receiver ). Nonetheless, I didn't feel they were trying to rush us out or anything. She usually is terrified of going to the vet but she wasn't as bad here. We usually go to Farleigh but will be going here now. Definitely! Highly!! Recommend!! read more

Old Dr. Meyers is now retired, but this place is still the nicest vet in Oldham County. They came in at midnight when our dog was hit by a car - rather than send us into Louisville to one of the animal hospitals. They are sensible too, not just trying to sell you overpriced things that you don't really need. I would recommend them to anyone! read more

My cats and dogs have been cared for and buried by this vet since 1974. But today? OMG. I had two beautiful Birman cats, and after a few years, they became sick -- months on end. One died. I had the remaining cat in Pewee Valley Vets' hands time after time, and they said there was nothing to do. Finally I asked for records and went for a second opinion. Within an hour, I learn it is FIV behind the many issues! Horrors! FIV (feline HIV) is routinely tested for, but Pewee Valley Vet never bothered because they are indoor cats. How derelict in duty can you get, when you are looking at a sick cat and you don't take some blood to check? When you won't prescribe anything? And all three vets at Pewee Valley agreed! Now my new vet and I are struggling to keep my remaining cat alive, FYI, medication cleared up some symptoms immediately -- symptoms for which Pewee Valley suggested steam baths because no medication was available for a cold. So if your pet is sick, go to a real vet. read more

Pewee Valley Vets is superlative in some ways and sad in others. Our cat needs have always been attended to cheerfully and skillfully. Once I brought in an injured box turtle and they were superlative in treating him/her and making him/her well. (How many vets can do that!?) However I think folks need beware of the pet dentist. I took my cat in to have his teeth cleaned, without informing me ahead of time that the dentist intended to pull his upper left and lower right canine teeth out. The dentist, an insensitive sounding lady on the phone, seemed not to care at all that he would have to bite his own upper lip for the rest of his life and suffer more than when he went in. My advice to other pet owners is never to get near this woman. Instead either to buy teeth cleaning chews on a regular basis, find someone else to handle your pet's dental care, or instruct the dentist NOT to pull teeth without first notifying the owner and discussing the harmful consequences. I would NEVER let that clearly unfeeling woman, who seems not to know the damages she causes and is therefore unfit for her job, ever to touch any animal of mine ever again!!! read more

I began going to Pewee Valley because I needed a vet who would understand the extreme shyness of an Amish Puppymill rescue I had adopted. My boy fell in love with Dr. Ross immediately and there was no turning back. Dr. Ross and Dr. Loster have cared for all my Bernese Mountain Dogs since. Many times they spend an inordinate amount of time trying to determine what is wrong with each of my dogs. My five year old boy think he owns the center, he thinks that the front office staff is supposed to leave their desks and come over and make a big fuss over him...AND THEY DO!!! Dr. Ross and Dr. Loster have shed tears with me when I have lost my dogs...when absolutely everything in their power has been attempted and it time to give them wings. I have recommended Pewee Valley Veterinary Center not only to any new Bernese owner in the Louisville area but to anyone I come in contact who is looking for a new vet or unhappy with the vet they have. I cannot say enough about the dedication, the professionalism, the comfort and the care of not only Drs. Ross and Loster but also of the Vet Techs and Assistants as well as the office staff. They are AWESOME....they rate 12 paws up from my gang! read more
