Sometimes a personal story, tells you everything you need to know about a place or a product versus…read morea review that is generically nice or harsh. For that reason, this review is a personal story. i'm embarrassed to say that the La Grange Animal Hospital was my second choice to care for our family cat, Stryker. I wish they had been my first as our family's cat would have received much better care upfront, been diagnosed accurately sooner, and possibly survived the autoimmune disease that eventually took his life (IMHA). Due to my tragic mistake, I'd advise other pet parents to choose a vet based on care and reputation rather than proximity to your home. When I realized that my original veterinarian was not able to diagnose the condition accurately after two separate visits two weeks apart, despite the Complete Blood Count (CBC) showing an alarming low level of red blood cells, and a very high white blood cell count, I took Stryker to La Grange Animal Hospital. Dr. Sheehan and her staff examined him thoroughly and , unfortunately, this time the CBC came back even more alarming (even lower results on the red and even higher results on the white). Due to her experience with cats, Dr. Sheehan recognized the auto immune disease called IMHA. Even though it was disturbing that Stryker was so sick, I was relieved that someone had a clue what was going on and knew how to treat it. On a course of antibiotics and steroids, over the next few weeks, Stryker seemed to get better and better. In the end though, the effects of IMHA were more than his 14 year-old body could handle. The disease stopped responding to steroids. We took him in to the hospital on an "ER basis" when it became apparent that he was no longer responding to the treatment. They did all they could possibly do to support him and try to get him back to health, however, he passed away that evening in the hospital. When Dr. Sheehan called to give us the news, she was very comforting. She let us know that a 14-year-old cat is the equivalent of a 90 year-old human. We realized then that we had made the right choices and there wasn't much else we could have done. I felt even better that I had at least gotten him to the right place. I wish I had just done it sooner. If you have a beloved family cat, I highly recommend that you put that cat in the care of La Grange Animal Hospital and Dr. Sheehan. She is highly experienced, very thorough, and very direct. She's very serious about what she does and very good at it. It seems to me that most veterinarians are very familiar with dogs and can take good care of them. Cats however, are a bit of a different challenge. They really require care from a veterinarian who understands their unique biology and behavior. I'm sure La Grange Animal Hospital is great for cats AND other pets, but Dr. Sheehan and her staff seem to really understand cats. If you're a cat lover, this is definitely the place for you and your pet(s)! I'd also like to mention that La Grange Animal Hospital took Stryker in on an emergency basis where there is a bit of a larger cost. Since they were unable to save him, they waived that charge out of respect for Stryker's passing. The bill at the end was simply for the supplies and drugs used urgently trying to get him back to better health. It is very clear that La Grange Animal Hospital and Dr. Sheehan are big-hearted! As a sidenote, I noticed that charges for exams, medications, and specialized foods were less costly than my previous vet charged for the same services and products . I believe Dr. Sheehan and her staff do what they do because they love the animals not because they love a big paycheck. As an animal lover, that means more to me and my family than anything else.

This concerned me a bit thinking that the dog may come back with some gruesome scar or something. The scar was very small, they were done earlier than was expected and the staff was very friendly. If you need a spay or neuter I highly recommend Lagrange Animal Hospital. Their spay price was also the most reasonable and the experience was just as pleasant.

There's nothing worse than having a sick pup. Well, actually, there is. A sick pup in the middle…read moreof the night. Blue Pearl is an emergency animal hospital that's open 24/7/365. There's a staff of several vet assistant, one or two veterinarians and office staff. It's advised to call ahead to let them know you're coming. Depending on the severity of your pets illness (I must acknowledge they treat cats, too), you can wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours before being seen. Seriously sick animals get priority status. The waiting area is clean and comfortable. There's complementary water and coffee along with a reasonably priced vending machine with various snacks. They even offer phone chargers n case you forgot to bring one. Pricing is on the high side. But what wouldn't we pay when our pet is ill? Our little guy isn't out of the woods yet, but we're comforted in knowing he's getting the best care possible. If he comes home feeling better, I'll bump BluePearl to 10 stars.

My precious babygirl, Princess Leia, was discarded by the doctors and techs on staff. Which led to…read moreher tragic death. I told the vet tech and doctor that my dog was poisoned but they claimed gastrointestinal. I explained researching the medicine and it killing ither dogs and cata. My dog was in shock and poisoned. For three hours, I thought she was receiving life-saving treatment. The doctor left to grab a paper then never came back and sent in the vet tech. Then the vet tech mentioned there was a real emergency that she had to use my payment paper for. My dogs poisoning wasn't taken seriously and so we left. Only to rush back as she was dying hours later. Had staff taken me seriously, my baby girl would still be alive. The morning staff at 4am were wonderful and wish they would have been the staff available when we drove an hour the first time that day before. I called the toxicology hotline to open a case and speed up her emergency treatment. The hotline was pointless and refused to believe a Flea + Tick medicine went to her bloodstream. I explained how every symptom from Flea + Tick poisoning (that my other dog had also experienced) was happening, they didn't take me serious and kept trying to find another reason for her seizures, tremors, vomiting, swollen organs, diarrhea, etc. My vet sent me to Blue Pearl saying they would treat her for being poisoned and in shock. This was not the case. We were there three hours before they apparently got ahold of the hotline. Which, why would you wait when a dog is dying? The hotline, once again, as I told them, didn't recommended anything for poisoning. They kept saying my dog was an old girl, as if ther way she was acting was due to her age. She was extremely healthy and agile prior to thirty minutes before receiving the Flea + Tick medicine. Please, if you go to BP, advocate for your animal and if its over toxicology, request immediate treatment or your dig could die waiting for the hotline they require to give unhelpful advice.
