I really enjoyed shopping at this boutique drug store. It's like a pharmacy and the wellness section of Whole Foods of New Seasons had a baby (and I mean that in the best possible way). If you are a fan of French-milled soaps, this store had two tables covered with Pre de Provence soaps in all kinds of scents. I saw a lot of "natural" bath and body products from recognizable brands like EO, Pacifica and Aura Cacia. I didn't even know that Aura Cacia made bubble bath, but they had three kinds. For some reason, it can be really hard to find bubble bath in stores nowadays but Pharmaca had several options and I ended up finding a product I really loved. read more

While my husband was in the liquor store next door, I popped in here to get some candy for his Christmas stocking. I mentioned to the cashier as I was rushing to stuff everything in my pockets that I didn't want my husband to see and very calmly and quietly she asked me, "are you okay?" I initially didn't understand the question, but then realized she thought I might be hiding the candy from my husband for safety reasons and she was confirming I was not in danger. looking for a selection of essential oils I was pleased to find a nice little bit of a gift store here. I wandered around and was later asked by a staff member if I needed help. I must've overlooked the location - but she walked me over to the essential oils options. They must not stock many the item I wanted just had a tester sample. So, I picked a couple out to later ask upon purchase. I like how the store is laid out - and there is a lot to peruse. Nice selection of greeting cards, jewelry, and gift items. Definitely legit! I really love Pharmaca because they offer a multitude of bath and beauty products free of chemicals we've determined to potentially be harmful. Many of my favorite brands are all found here, allnunder one roof. I recently was trying to find a foundation without retinol in it. During the hunt I noticed that some of the foundations here have talc as a first ingredient. I'm a little disappointed in this. However, I received some excellent customer service from a woman here who really took the time to help me find the right product for my skin. Thank you! I've found that sometimes employees can be a little out of touch with current promotions. They aren't always sure which coupons you can use together or how to process the check-in offer. I used to work here so I know the standard they expect from the employees. Im so sad to say that this was the worst experience I have had at a pharmacy. I would expect a 45 minute wait from Walgreens but when you have 4 techs working and only 1 person waiting for a shot, there should be no reason that it takes that long. After waiting 30 minutes I go and see what's happening and was told that no one even started working on it. Constructive criticism, please work on your work flow so prescriptions don't get missed and you are able to cut the time it takes to process the prescription. Move with intent not laziness. Brenda was very nice and apologetic which was great but Natasha was a slow condescending person. She should not be your dropoff tech or cashier. The pharmacy staff here is incredibly unhelpful. Really a very shitty feeling when you come in for a prescription that you've already spent months with a doctor for to get, you've been told by the pharmacy that it's ready and the pharmacy staff with their masks down says to you "yeah this prescription is not common" when they are unable to fill it. I couldn't believe how unprofessional that person was. Healthcare should be equitable and respectful and this pharmacy showed none of these qualities. read more

Terrible Pharmacy. Called 4 times to refill a prescription. One lady found me in the system. The other man ( 30 minutes of being on hold according to my phone ) had no record of me filling meds there. When I needed an URGENT prescription while pregnant before I was headed out of town, I was told that they close in 40 minutes so it's probably cutting it too close and I should have my doctor fill it somewhere else. My prescription cost THREE TIMES as much as it did at Rite Aid. With same exact med and same exact insurance. Not sure what they're offering while charging more. The pharmacists do NOTHING to help you or be considerate of your time and health. Can't wait to leave this place. Oh, and I work in an ICU and understand urgency and timing of meds. I debated between giving it four stars or five. The minus one star is because of the chick at the makeup counter. She was SO helpful, and knew what she was talking about. I have been to many a naturopath, and done my research, and this chick was pulling out stuff that you don't hear at most stores. I'll get to the negative...I asked her for a particular eyeliner and she showed me where it was at, no problem. I looked around a little more to see if there were other eyeliners that caught my attention, and decided to go back to this one. I picked it up, and went to the cashier to pay. It didn't have a bar code on it, and so she asked the makeup chick about it (she probably has a better title than that, but for lack of not knowing she's makeup chick to me.) Makeup chick looked at me like I was an idiot, and was like, "Where'd you get this? This is not for sale." In a very stern voice, like I did something wrong. And she walked back to the counter and got the correct eyeliner- which is in a cupboard underneath all the display stuff. I looked at the cashier and was like, "That's where she showed me they were, so that's the one I got." Side note- I am just now buying higher quality makeup without all the crap in it (If you want to know more about what 'crap' means visit http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/). Most people might know that what I picked up was the display eyeliner, but I did not, which is no big deal, I just don't think it's necessary to shame someone for it. She went back to the customer she was helping and apologized for the interruption. She made a big scene about it. It was really embarrassing. All that aside, the products (internal and external) they carry are excellent. They carry Integrative Pharmaceuticals products for cheaper than I have found them anywhere else. I really rack my brain about how to rate places sometimes. The place itself is amazing, so should I down rate it because of the makeup chick? I think it's circumstantial. These are the circumstances that led me into Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy. I was dying from a hideous cough/headache/cold type disease and found myself in a cough drop emergency. As in, I had eaten the last one and things were going to go from bad to worse if I didn't procure some immediately. I also had some business to take care of in the Uptown Shopping Center. I won't keep you in suspense. Yes, I found cough drops and certain disaster was averted. But I also found the chichi-est pharmacy in the known universe. This is the pharmacy that people who do all their christmas shopping at the drug store should patronize. Fancy soaps and shampoos, and a little make-up counter (complete with what I assume was a make-up expert.) And vitamins and supplements galore. And Sigg water bottles in many exciting colors and patterns, priced exactly the same as on Amazon. But if I may mention the cough drops again, they only came in one flavor, "gross sugar free organic tasting". Next time I will walk another 3 blocks to Walgreens and get me some halls fruit breezers. read more

Even my least favorite Pharmaca gets four stars because I love Pharmaca. I just hate shopping in the pearl. I was reminded of that during my transaction here. I was purchasing about three small things, mainly because I couldn't carry very much since during my shopping trip I was still utilizing my cane to walk. I couldn't really find where their baskets were at... This store seems kind of small compared to the others and really tucked into this spot. I went to the counter rested my cane along the side of the counter use my debit card to purchase the items. As the cashier was still bagging my items and had not even handed them to me yet some douchebag practically elbowed me out of his way to slap down his items, shoving his debit card into the slot immediately. No, "Pardon me" or anything it is not like me and the clerk were chatting it up or anything. I had my cane for goodness sake. I was honestly scared that the guy was going to knock me over. The clerk said not one word.... Which really did piss me off. I was more in shock than anything. read more

This is like a toy store for me. I only got to browse around inside one time before lockdown, but I love these kinds of stores. It's full of clean/natural brands like Tom's, Jason, etc., and has a good selection of my favorite beauty brands like Dr. Hauschka, Derma E, Weleda. There are loads of supplements, and other interesting things, and of course a pharmacy. Since Covid I did a curbside pickup once, and the employee helping me was very thorough, and called twice to make sure he had the right items before I came. Yesterday I used the pharmacy for the first time. I needed some asthma medication and asked for delivery so I wouldn't have to go outside in the smoke. Unfortunately, FedEx delivered it to the wrong address. I spoke to two employees (Brenda & David) several times, and I was worried that I wouldn't get the medicine as it was getting close to their closing time, but a Pharmaca employee actually delivered the package himself! I'm so impressed with both employees that helped me with this, and I'm glad I have a great local drugstore to use! read more

I have shopped in the store, but have not used the pharmacy. It does have a wide selection of homeopathic medicines and organic home/personal care products. But, parking is a nightmare. It's a small lot and the area around it is always crowded. If you actually find a parking spot, they only allow 1 hour to park and they monitor it like hawks. The whole time you are checking your watch to be sure you don't run over your time or you will get a ticket. I'd call this a pretty average pharmacy. They have a lot of natural snacks which is nice in this bougie food desert where everyhing is $$$. You do have Zupans nearby but honestly a wilted $9 Caesar is not worth it so sometimes I just run down to Pharmaca for a protein bar or a sparkling water when I didn't want **ice cream** (Ben and Jerry's) or pastries and eggs (Lovejoy Bakers), plus the deli next door doesn't have much for grab and go snacks. I think it's overpriced for what it is (aloe vera, a toothbrush, a hand cream) but you do find some specialty brands. Most recently I went into Pharmaca looking for a certain lip balm and the manufacturer said it was carried at Pharmaca. Well, it wasn't. But I've gotten some fun things over the years here like cranberry floss, 50% off Moonstruck chocolate after holidays and CBD snacks. It slants to the natural side of things but you pay a premium for these seemingly luxury items. Plus their parking lot is a cluster - and you will be ticketed if you park more than an hour, even if you're genuinely shopping. Overall, it's an okay spot but that's mostly because of the geography, you won't do much better in the area. They have a full pharmacy in the back where you can get your prescriptions filled or the awesome staff will help you find an alternative treatment (vitamins, herbs, other naturopathic meds). They have kids stuff like organic diapers and paraben and chemical free lotions and sunscreens. For the adults they have an amazing selection of beauty, hair and skin care products. It is my favorite place to pick up all natural sunscreen and they even have a killer self tanner that's not all nasty and bad for you! It is a pretty expensive place so I only go for a few specific things that I know I love. On the second saturday of each month they have a sampling fair for a few hours in the afternoon. They have experts around to help you and answer questions and they hand out samples and trial size items so that you can check stuff out before you buy. read more

I can't say how much I love (and miss when I'm away) Pharmaca. Any city is truly blessed to have a Pharmaca, especially a well run one (most are, including this one). Pharmaca is kinda like the Trader Joes of pharmacies in terms of how unique some of products are that they carry... Except, sadly, a little more expensive. That is to say, everyone can afford a lot of food at Trader Joes because of their massive private labeling operating, but some items are Pharmaca are harder to afford since most things are branded and from smaller scale manufacturers. Nonetheless, Pharmaca tends to be a superior choice for someone who'd similar items at a such as Whole Foods and even New Seasons. The buyers for the store, I think mostly centralized in Boulder with some local input allowed, are brilliant. They tend to carry some of the best things you find at health trade shows... even the European variety. For instance, they have the hard to get Pharmax line of fish and DHA oils, which reduce heavy metals to parts per TRILLION (vs parts per billion for the very best ones you see elsewhere). One of the best fish oil products in the entire world, yet you rarely see it outside of Europe. Way to go Pharmaca! (And if you're reading Mrs and Mrs. Pharmaca, kick it up a notch and keep the stuff in the fridge please :) They also have really fun, oddball items that change eery few weeks. Just great stuff, I don't know what to call these knickknacks really, that are perfect for gifts or if you want to give a novel gift. They ted to be higher quality than the average knickknack or gift, and that's appreciated. You can quickly make a good impression on a friend, colleague, your kids or even yourself on "treat yourself extra nice" day without too much work! I see some of the bad reviews mention employees. Occasionally I run into a bad egg, too, but most are pleasant people. The bad eggs tend to go away... thankfully. So if you have a ad experience, come back in a few weeks and try again. Or een report their first name to the manager via email or by yelp or something -- Pharmaca seems to want only good, helpful people working there... I visit Portland several times a year and always stop here for various items that I either forgot to pack or chose not to so I would have a reason to stop by. The store is smaller than other locations I have visited but it is very clean and well organized. The staff is knowledgeable and readily available to answer questions. Sometimes I phone ahead to see if they have a particular item in stock and every time they said that they had it ~ when I arrived they actually did have it! The soaps and shampoos as well as the make-ups are all organic and full of delicious smells. The hair accessories are some of the cutest around, strangely enough, and it's almost like a beauty shop. The vitamin and supplement section is enormous, with every extract or herb you could possibly need in several forms. This place is a total rip-off in my opinion and should be avoided at all costs unless you enjoy giving away money. I went to get prescription ear drops and was charged a $74 co-pay despite my Medicare supplemental coverage. I learned the next day from my physician that if I simply would have used the "GoodRx" website to find pricing at other local pharmacies, I would have paid only $37.00...less than one-half of Pharmaca charged. When I went back to Pharmaca and explained the situation, the store manager was basically unsympathetic. After expressing my extreme displeasure, she finally said that the store owner would call me, which of course never happened. Pharmaca claims to be a pharmacy catering to the neighborhood, and that is why I went there in the first place rather than 1 of the chains. What it is, it appears to me, is nothing more than a con artist operation preying upon the ignorance and good faith of their customers. Caveat emptor. (Let the buyer beware.) I came into Pharmaca for the first time because I'm trying to make the switch to natural makeup. Being a person with a darker complexion it's hard to find makeup that matches my skin tone, so as I was looking at the makeup I was just waiting for one of the associates to ask me if I was finding everything okay or to even make eye contact with me so that I could ask them for help. I stood there at the makeup counter for a good 10 minutes waiting to see if one of the associates would ask if I needed help. I then asked one of them to help me color match my foundation and she said 'one second' and went back to her register. I waited another ten minutes, and watched as she continued to help other people who had gotten there after me. She finally came over and tried one foundation on me and then said she would be right back, not even saying sorry with a nice tone of voice. I waited another 5 minutes. There were a good four associates in the store and barely any customers. Nobody helped me so I Ieft, annoyed because I really would have bought makeup there if I would have gotten help. The associates at Pharmaca are rude and have just plain bad customer service skills. Never going back. read more

I like this store simply because they have such a wide selections of natural products and its just down the street from my office. However, the staff is awful!! In the multiple times I have been to this store I have only ever received help from one guy, who seems to be the ONLY nice person in the entire establishment. I walked around the store for a good 5 minutes trying to locate a supplement. Three staff members walked by me, looked me in the eye but did not offer any assistance of any kind. Just watched me walk aimlessly around the store. Great customer service! Then there's the middle aged woman working the register...boy isn't she just a treat! Cold and not welcoming in the slightest. When asked if I was a member, I told her I was not....this is where you offer the customer a membership....but nope I did not get that. She mumbled my purchase total and then snapped at me when I asked again because I couldn't hear her the first time. Mumble = Non professional. Use your words and warm up a little people. I have a lot of love for stores like this (SF even has a Pharmaca location but actually, I've only walked past it) because I'm a sucker for natural based skincare and products. When I used to live in Santa Cruz for school, I loved going to New Leaf just to browse their teas and skincare aisles and this store is pretty much similar to that. It carries a lot of good brands (Dr. Hauschka, Zia, Jurlique, Weleda, Alba and the list goes on and on) and a lot of holistic remedies and supplements. I was almost tempted to buy some skincare but I had to remind myself that I just hit up Sephora yesterday and bought some Shiseido moisturizer so I have to wait on that.
