We recently had our roof and three skylights replaced by Phelps Brothers, and they were - in a word - excellent. Jamie was efficient and responsive with the initial estimate and follow-up questions we had and promptly provided us with both samples and addresses of customers where we could check out their work. Within a half-hour of starting work on "day 1," the workers realized our roof was one of a rare 2% of roofs built in a particularly solid way "back when," but one that would make the roof replacement work more challenging. The project director, Tony, consulted with Phelps Brothers' owner, and within minutes they agreed to proceed as originally planned. This initial roadblock was handled in a transparent manner and quickly resolved. The work was done quickly and efficiently over two days, with a special focus on not damaging flower beds all around the house (the job was done in mid-April, so a lot of new growth, none of which was damaged!). On the back of our furnace chimney, Phelps built a cricket, or diverter, to lessen the impact of rain on the actual brick. This was done because it was needed, not because we had requested it, and it wasn't included in the original, approved estimate. Just an example of Phelps Brothers going above and beyond to provide high-quality work. Tony was a real pleasure to work with - pleasant to deal with, super patient and direct with answering our questions. He even came back weeks later to patch/glue a bluestone chip that had been slightly damaged. Now that's service! His team of roofers were super hard-working and friendly. All in all, every person we dealt with at Phelps Brothers was friendly and professional. Our roof looks great; a real upgrade to our home. They gave the most competitive price, were able to schedule the roof replacement within weeks on our timeline, and did the entire job (6 unit townhouse) in 2 days. My house is over 100 years old and the roof had pitches and angles that made installing a new roof a complex job. Phelps Brothers brought their crew and in one 17-hour day, there was a completely new roof, all debris was taken away, and the crew was polite and unobtrusive. There was one accident when a hole was made in the interior ceiling, but Phelps sent a specialist within two days, made the ceiling look like new, and did not charge me for the fix. New roofs are expensive, but I felt their estimate was reasonable, particularly after I saw their hard work first hand. The only extra charge, and Phelps kept it down, was for a few plywood boards to fix degraded sections of the under-roof. I would highly recommend them. read more

When I needed a new roof back in 2012 after hail damage, others were using a fly-by-night roofing company that swung through the area and are now long gone, but I chose Phelps, because they helped me out when my old roof was leaking. It turned out to be a great decision! These folks have been in the area for generations, and customer service is fantastic! The warranty will outlast my lifetime, but no warranty is worth anything if it's not backed by great service. Couldn't be happier. read more

Had them come inspect a roof on a home I just purchased in Hillsdale. It was last minute and they moved their schedule around to accommodate. At the end of the day, nothing was wrong with the roof and no work was needed, but they were super responsive and communicative throughout and they didn't charge for the inspection. Nice to know businesses like this still exist. I'll definitely give them a call when it's time to replace the roof down the road. read more

If you live in the area and ask someone for a referral for a roofing company, odds are the first thing they'll recommend is the Phelps brothers, and with good reason. After we got an estimate and picked out the roof we wanted, they called us a few days before they were going to come out to let us know they'd be there at 7am. They arrived on time and got to work right away. I forgot to move some things on my deck and they were careful and moved everything out of the way. Things were noisy as expected for a while, then suddenly quiet. At 11:15 AM they knocked on the door and handed us the bill. Everything was spotless and the roof was completed. You wouldn't have even known they were there. The bill was exactly the estimate (which was super reasonable and $3500 (!!) less than the local "storm repair" company). read more

I was referred to Phelps Bros by a neighbor and I'm very glad I went with them. Jason came out to do the estimate and was very courteous and helpful. He mentioned I had some soft (which I expected) and gave it to me straight about likely needing several sheets of plywood. The installation went faster than I was expecting, and the pricing was very reasonable. The roofers did a great job and once the job was completed, they cleaned up any debris and put everything back to order. I had heard a lot about Phelps from friends who had work done by them. They come out and gave us a quote, but said they were backed up for a good bit, but would fit us in when they could maybe even do it on a Saturday. A spell of bad weather pusehed them back a bit, but they finally told us when they would come. The were there promptly in the morning with a large crew. They worked very efficiently and cleanly. Not one spec of the old shingles anywhere. The job was perfect. Right on budget and swift. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or use them again. read more

Had Phelps remove and replace the roof on my phone. They were 1/3 less than the three other companies from which i received quotes. I was out of the Country when they called to schedule. They arrived, completed the job - replaced a bad piece of plywood and completely cleaned up their mess in a half day. They called and advised they were done and waited until I returned to collect their money. There wasn't a nail in my yard after they were done. Excellent job and super clean.
