My hair always looks great and my color and cut has been complimented by my out of town stylist as well along with friends and family etc. Starshine is definitely a jewel! So glad I was referred by someone who I ran into by chance. And her hair was phenomenal. I asked who did her hair and she referred me to Su-Shan.

I was late to my…read moreappointment due to two unexpected traffic accidents, which caused me to arrive past the grace period. When the salon reached out to check on my status, I explained that I had just parked and was walking over. I completely understood when they had to cancel my appointment due to my tardiness and apologized several times. However, when I went online to rebook, I discovered that I had been blacklisted. While I fully understand that late arrivals, cancellations, and no-shows are difficult for any business, being blacklisted on a first offense seems bizarre and unfair. I would have completely understood if this were a second offense or a recurring issue, but things happen, and this was an unavoidable situation. I guess my name didn't fit with their salon aesthetic enough to give me a one-time warning as a first-time client. Unfortunately, I understand that it is still within their rights to refuse service. Just a heads up for other potential clients--be prepared to predict unforeseen delays and call well in advance--24 hours to be exact! Prefer to take my money elsewhere.

The salon is respectful of your time and does not double and or triple book their stylists so you are able to get in and out within a reasonable amount of time, receive quality service and not feel ignored or rushed. There have been times when stylists have moved on and the front desk staff made every effort to ensure I was paired with a stylist who specialized in working with curly hair. The owners have worked hard to provide an upscale and relaxed experience that is consistent. The salon is clean, calming and soothing without the threat of children / pets destroying the environment. Please be aware before booking your appointment - Salon L is not a daycare center so if you're asked to remove a disruptive situation, please understand the request - as I personally don't want to be forced to endure the pain. I also am a person color and have never faced discrimination or racism while visiting this establishment. That's my two cents...

I was a new client, they did not know my hair, and had scheduled maybe at least 8+ clients while I was getting my hair cut and colored. I was nervous when the assistant kept checking my foils and didn't know where to start with the removal of the foils - not a good sign. I didn't get my hair blown out, because I was afraid of the cost, as I'm pretty sure it's NOT included in the price of a haircut. So, when I get home, I realized my hair was butchered. The highlights were bright yellow and orange, and crooked all over my head. There were some spots with huge chunks and then other areas were the high light looked like it had slipped mid-process. I quickly contacted the scheduler, since for some reason that's the only way to reach Mackezie, and was told I probably just "need a toner and that's the main issue, as for the placement of the highlights, she feels there's no issue." The highlights were absolutely the main issue. The timing of my foils was obviously not calculated correctly, it looked like foils were quite literally slipping from my hair and taken off way too early. It looked like I had gotten it done months ago and it grew out. I don't know if it was a error because they overbooked and couldn't focus on the timing correctly, but it's a shame because it cost me over $600++, not including what I had to pay to go to another salon to have it corrected.

I had a lot of new growth since starting hair vitamins, but I clearly didn't want my hair cut down to the new growth or anywhere near! Trinh is very quick, seemingly implusive with her "snipping", THEN she says, "I have to check my cut." More snipping. I didn't feel Trinh was focused on my haircut, frequently responding to conversations going on with other staff. I paid $120 for a Deva cut - my hair is fine and a bit thin, so I was charged the lowest price for the Deva cut. Trinh said "my haircuts last for 4 months." I can see why. It will take 4 months for my hair to grow to a length that I like. Trinh was very nice and took a lot of time teaching me how to use Deva products and was constantly "checking the cut" but kept on snipping. In the past, I have often left with a Deva cut that was frizzy. My hair was not frizzy when I left the salon. That's the best I can say about my experience and that the shampoo assistant did a very nice job.

By luck, I was assigned to Christi who did a great job trimming away any remnants of the bad cut. She actually taught me more about hair extensions than the stylist who initially put them in. The reason I am giving four instead of five stars is because the neck cushion at the hair washing station was hard and made my neck ache. When it comes down to it though Christi did a great job and I will definitely be back.

Awesome hairstyle, great people. This place is BEAUTIFUL inside. It is a hidden gem in the Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center. It is tucked in next to Carter's and you might pass it if you aren't looking for it. You can see their sign from City Ave, and that is what caught my eye, I've been thinking about checking it out and am so glad that I finally did. They are new to the main line, but I expect word of mouth will soon start to send more people their way. They have a very unique setup. You walk in and can take the elevator or the stairs to the 2nd floor. Check in with the receptionist, which is quick and easy. They told my stylist I was there and she came out and greeted me and brought me back to her suite/room. This is the best part, you get your stylist to yourself. I will take a step back, when I called in, the person who took my appointment asked me a few questions and put me with the stylist she thought would fit my personality and needs best - she got it right! I wanted a one-on-one experience and asked for that, so she made sure to put me with a stylist who doesn't overlap appointments. It was wonderful, I could relax and as a busy mom, it isn't often that I get me-time. Well this is where I can go to escape my loving family and the craziness of soccer and basketball and baseball - and just have something for myself. If you are a busy mom who needs to escape into solitude, you need to check this place out! LOVE my hair, it has curls that don't always listen to what I want and my stylist Jules was able to tame them and get them to go the way I want. She spent lots of time listening to me and what I was looking for. Can't say enough nice things about this place. My only regret is that I didn't stop in sooner. My visit to Phenix Salon in Bala Cynwyd was such a wonderful experience. I must admit I wasn't sure what to expect when I got off the elevator and saw the reception area but didn't see a room full of stylists. It was very clean, neat, relaxing with this lovely waterfall. I was greeted with friendly smiles by the staff and other clients as well. It was just a happy, friendly place and I felt at ease immediately. I was quickly brought to a private salon where I met my lovely stylist who took time to make me comfortable and asked me what I wanted. I felt like a queen for the day, I was the only one in the room with my stylist and we had the best time. We talked about so many things, and I didn't have to worry about who could overhear because it was just the two of us (happy face!) My stylist did such a fantastic job with my unrully hair. A beautiful haircut followed with a mixer of a blowout with loose beachy waves. I had so much fun, I cannot wait for my next appointment. Thank you Phenix for a wonderful experience. read more

I have found a gem on the main line. Phenix Salons is everything you would expect and more. I am new to the area and I was lucky enough to see their new client offer and decided to give them a try. I was not disappointed. The prices are better than I expected, the atmosphere is quiet and classy. When I was there the owner Antonela was talking to a local artist about hanging her artwork in the salon, and I thought how beautiful would that be? There was a welcoming feel about the place, lots of smiles and then I got my haircut. OMG, they have private suites. I got to have my stylist all to myself! They do hair, facials, makeup, nails and they even have a package where you can come and get a picture too. I digress, my stylist Jules is very patient and kind. I always leave Phenix in a great mood. My hair is impeccable, and my stylist is always warm and inviting. I get my hair colored, and anyone who does knows how hard it is to get a great haircolor. So when people comment about your hair, especially men, well... Le't just say, I won't be going anywhere else to get my hair done. So many of the reviews, you have to find them because they are hidden, talk about the private rooms, these are mini salons and it creates such an intimate environment. All the privacy you need. I just read a review where the woman said she felt like a queen, and that sums it up. Definitely a place for busy women to come to get away from everything and spend a little time on yourself. P.S. This place is INCREDIBLE! I cannot stress enough how wonderful they are. They do fun events, and I took advantage of a photo shoot they were doing. I went in to get my hair done and they had professional photographers who took beautiful pictures. I am a business owner and know how much you have to pay to get professional headshots, they definitely invest in their clients as I didn't have to pay a sitting fee, I only paid if I wanted to buy my own headshots. I was able to get gorgeous headshots for my social media and business cards. Seriously, for the price of getting my hair done (which I was doing anyway) and then a nominal fee for the photos it was practically fee. They also have a makeup artist so you could get your hair and makeup done AND get your pictures. LOVE the quite elegance at everyday prices. Can't gush more about how wonderful they are. read more

This place is phenomenal! Phenix Salons is a quality salon that makes me forget all the other salons I've been to. I can be a bit picky about my hair. I came in with a specific hair cut and color in mind... Yes, I am that person and I am so appreciative because I know from experience how hard it is to match the picture. I was pleasantly surprised when my colorist Jules called me at home to talk about what I was looking for. Normally, this type of request would require two appointments, but because she called me at home we were able to work out a lot of the details and do this in one appointment. I had a great experience at Phenix Salons. My stylist took the time to talk to me and ask ME what I wanted, instead of deciding for me. My wife comes here and always raves about her stylist. I usually go to the barber, but wasn't happy, so I was open to a change when my wife suggested it. I'm glad I came, the private suite was relaxing and I didn't feel rushed. And my wife said she loved my hair, and she is never wrong, lol. The staff was attentive and greeted me with a smile. The door is tucked into a corner between Carter's and Michaels, lots of parking, which makes this place an even better deal. No more paying for parking! The salon itself is clean and inviting. You won't find a better salon on the mainline. Phenix has beautiful people working there and the place is beautiful. I am from the area, and travel for my job so I have seen salon suites in other states, but this is the first time in Pennsylvania. I am SOOOOO happy that I found this place. Love the private suites! There is nothing better than being able to have a nice quiet conversation with your stylist. I was flying out of town and my stylist met me at 6:00 am so I could get my hair done and make it to the airport in time for my flight!!!!! I cannot say anything but nice things about this place! My regular stylist cancelled on me at the last minute and I HAD to get my hair done because I had a family party to go to and I couldn't go with grays (you know the joys of getting older) In a panic, I called my girlfriend (because what else would you do) and she said "Call Phenix" so, I picked up the phone and called, and now I have a new salon :-) My hair is no longer gray and it is so shiny and my curls are so pretty and bouncy. Who knew that this gem was here, my friend of course (and she will never let me forget it). I have been so pleased with Phenix, I can say that everyone is so friendly. I was talking to the owner and didn't even realize it until my stylist told me. It is so refreshing to come to a salon in the Philadelphia area that is CLEAN and FRIENDLY. When you come in, it looks like an upscale salon but the people treat you like you have known them forever and you don't get that snobby atmosphere or prices. BEAUTIFUL environment! I have been following her around for years from salon to salon, THATS HOW GOOD SHE IS! But having her at Phenix has been the best move yet! I keep telling my friends what a beautiful experience I have every time I come to Phenix. The front desk always greets me with a friendly smile and the water fall makes me feel so relaxed. The one thing I can get here that I cannot get at other Salons is the private, one on one time with my stylist. My mom came to visit and needed to get her hair cut for our family reunion picture and we went in as a walk-in and were able to get into see a stylist. This was our first time, but it won't be my last. The place is beautiful inside, very clean and well kept. I had never been to a salon like this before. Everyone had a room to themselves, which made it very quiet. My mom raved about how much she loved her hair and how nice everyone treated her. I love Phenix Salons. I was given a tour of this awesome hair salon and could not get it out of my mind. Everyone that I met was so friendly and the tour was phenomenal. I decided to go for it, and told the receptionist what I was looking for (I opted for a one-on-one experience) and that is exactly what I got. I had an amazing experience at this salon !!! I usually do my own hair but I wasn't feeling well so my best friend referred me to this salon where she knew I could relax ! They have private suites where I could sit back and enjoy the peaceful environment . To top this experience off , my hairdresser was AMAZING ! Came in for a hair cut because I was in the Philadelphia area on business. The service and hair cut were both awesome. My stylist had relaxing music playing and was very friendly. Had tons of laughs. My stylist was on time and I did not have any issues during my appointment. The vibe was enjoyable and everyone was in the Christmas spirit. No gossip, no drama, no negativity... all love! I had made my appointment a day ahead while I was walking by and appreciated their availability to schedule me in the next day. It's a pretty decent sized operation - modern aesthetics, cushy chairs, and even some drinks offered upon request. After arriving, I was quickly checked in and then walked over to my chair. I showed the haircut I was going for to my stylist and she was really informative letting me know how she would go about to get the look and also asked questions as far as any modifications and how close I wanted my taper to be. Once she had an idea, she went to work and I'd say the total cut lasted about 45 minutes. My stylist was detailed and worked diligently not rushing through the process. She made sure my cut was going in the direction I was seeking and overall I'm happy with the final result! Given the ease of going here and the great end product, I'm looking forward to more visits!

The stylists themselves have always been kind and do their best, but they often seem overwhelmed and unsupported. The actual color service has generally been fine, but the overall experience has consistently been frustrating. Some of the recurring issues I've experienced include: The app frequently does not work properly for scheduling appointments. I've arrived and been told they had the wrong appointment time for me. Long wait times have repeatedly made me late for work. No hot water -- this has happened twice on very cold days. I was told they had been requesting a new water heater for months. Washing hair with cold water in the winter is unacceptable. My computer charger broke because one of the outlets was extremely tight. Staff attempted to contact a manager about reimbursement, but I never heard back. Appointments are often delayed or disrupted because a staff member has called out at the last minute. There is no way to reach a live person by phone when issues come up. The fact that this is my first Yelp review ever really says a lot. I truly want this place to succeed, but it feels like both the staff and customers deserve better support and management. I keep saying I'm not going to return, but I still have the membership, which is the only reason I've continued coming back.

E&H is not pricey at all, and their prices NEVER change, so what you expect to pay is exactly how much you'll be charged. I will be taking a break from going here. I recently was unpleased with the way they styled my hair, and the blow dryer was also wayyyy to hot. It was a mere misunderstanding but I think ill try something a bit more closer to my house. Ultimately ill probably come back to E&H because they really are nice and my hair has become healthier and longer since they started styling me.
