Actually quite impressed and though for a men's cut it's on the pricier side it definitely delivers in service and end product. I really like how close this place is for me to get to - I was able to walk over during my day and enjoy some much needed sunshine on my way to my haircut. I had made my appointment a day ahead while I was walking by and appreciated their availability to schedule me in the next day. It's a pretty decent sized operation - modern aesthetics, cushy chairs, and even some drinks offered upon request. After arriving, I was quickly checked in and then walked over to my chair. I showed the haircut I was going for to my stylist and she was really informative letting me know how she would go about to get the look and also asked questions as far as any modifications and how close I wanted my taper to be. Once she had an idea, she went to work and I'd say the total cut lasted about 45 minutes. My stylist was detailed and worked diligently not rushing through the process. She made sure my cut was going in the direction I was seeking and overall I'm happy with the final result! I've been going to Lather now for 2 years and I love it here! Kristin is my stylist and I can't thank her enough for the amazing color correction she provided after I'd been dying my hair myself during the COVID lock downs. She brought my hair back to life even though it was damaged and not in the greatest of shape. Ever since then, I've been doing different colors and styles and it always comes out amazing. She's an awesome colorist who provides realistic and thoughtful recommendations. She will definitely let you know what's possible, give reasonable game plans, and will tell you honestly what will look good, etc. She also always gives me a cut that looks just like the photos I bring in as inspo (which we all know is not always the case). Abbey is the best stylist I've ever seen! Amazing work with color and cuts! The whole vibe at Lather is super welcoming!

This is my first haircut since the whole shut-down. It took me 3 weeks to get an appointment with Leylanie. I work about the same hours as salons and my schedule is super busy. But somehow, I was able to get in. I sent her pictures via Instagram and had a consultation during the intake. I am in with prewashed hair so, she checked-out my hair, sat me under a dryer and then into her chair. She took her time and really gave me a slight trim, and then flatironed my hair. Proceeded to cut and layer my hair. I am super impressed with her technique. Love love my cut. Book with Leylanie before she is overbooked. Parking is metered or street parking. The space is open, light and airy. Their new space is light, airy and just beautiful. Big giant windows, black metal stations, creamy white walls and a touch a soft oak color floors and shelving units really compliments the inviting ambience. I went for a haircut during COVID. First - I felt very safe, everyone wears a mask - the salon is HUGE, so everyone is spaced out greater than 15 feet. It was easy relaxing. Kristin was my hair stylist and I was going for my first big haircut in over 10 years - taking 7-8 inches off my long hair. I wanted a short-collar bone length haircut. And I got the BEST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. I was very nervous (and attached to my long hair). Kristin took the time to look at photos, analyzed my hair, recognized it was naturally a little wavy and made suggestions to add some layers for my hair type. Well she knows her stuff, every time I wash my hair now - I don't even need to style it, she cut it PERFECTLY to the accentuate the natural waves. I have seen Ashley V for a few years now. She listens and works with me (even when I sometimes don't know what I want or can't explain it very well!) She's very open to feedback and I will admit I am picky/critical as I have thick hair and A LOT of it which can be tricky. She always addresses my questions/comments so gracefully and thoughtfully and clearly knows what she is doing. She consistently gives me great cuts but is always willing to accept feedback. This past cut, I texted her some pics after I had washed/dried it myself and was questioning if we had gone too blunt. She went above and beyond to not only quickly respond, but brainstorm with her co-workers on techniques on how we could 'fix.' She offered me a few time slots and got me in super quickly to address. She handled my criticism/ concerns super professionally. I am so glad to have found her and kept her for this long! I would recommend Ashley anyone looking for a new stylist! This salon is a joy to have in the neighborhood! I love the stylist assigned to me -Devin. I recently got a facial/Derm abrasion with hydration session with Meg and enjoyed the relaxing ski n treatment. I was surprised that my neck and upper chest were not included in the treatment which I believe should be included in all such treatments. Haircut was fine, I was not very comfortable with the stylist which resulted in miscommunication of what I wanted. That aside, Google maps listed this salon as "LGBTQ+ Friendly" and the client getting her hair done next to me used a homophobic slur in conversation, to which my stylist repeated it and her and another stylist laughed rather than dismissing the inappropriate language. I just wanted to write another review for my second experience at Lather with Lauren! I was a little sad Dierdra wasn't in during the time I wanted a cut but I was more than confident Lauren would take care of me the moment I met her. The biggest thing about these girls is that you feel like you've known them for years. I personally hate pretentious people, especially when it comes to fashion, beauty, etc. Everyone who works here, that I have met so far, are SO incredibly down to earth and makes me want to stay just to be around their company. Anyways so back to the hair...usually when I go for a salon hair cut I ALWAYS get it blown out straight. Before we started, Lauren had mentioned something about just keeping my curls in, since I have naturally curly hair. Initially I thought, nah I'll just do the straight since I can never get it to look as good on my own, but then I asked her exactly what would be done to keep the curls... so she explained that after the cut and wash she would put product in my hair (Deva Curl which is especially good for curly hair) and have me sit under the drier so that the curls will lock in the moisture that it needs to produce flawless curls. I went with my gut and boy was I impressed. I've always wanted to embrace my natural curls without keeping it tied up in a ponytail but I just haven't found the right product. Lauren went above and beyond to make sure I understood what the products would do for my hair, and the results are real! I walked out of the store with Deva Curl light hold styling gel, and bought small bottles of the Deva Curl sham(no poo) and conditioner off of Amazon. So far I am very happy with the results and I can't wait to come back into Lather again to get the rejuvenation my hair screams for after a couple of months. Oh and of course the wine and happy hour discount isn't too bad either! They also had a 10% student discount promotion running, I'm not sure for how long it was going on but I would call ahead to see if you qualify! Just had such an amazing experience here! Got a full cut- so a consultation, wash, cut, and styling. My stylist was Kristen and she was super cool, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor! Alas, Leylanie left Lather so I went with whoever was available, assuming that anyone who qualifies to be a stylist here would be sufficient. To be fair, my super short cut is growing out, different lengths, and just all over the place, so perhaps more of a challenge than I first thought. My stylist & I had a great initial convo about what I wanted where it sounded like we were on the same page, with her making some great suggestions, but then she did not do what we talked about, with no communication during the cut as to a change in direction or running up against challenges. At the end (after I had to ask to see the back), when I said it wasn't what we'd talked about (and didn't even looked finished), she agreed and brought her manager over without me asking for that. Manager was nice but the conversation was incredibly awkward to have, in front of other stylists & clients (who all fell silent to listen) and in front of my stylist. It would have been better to do this at the front or back of the salon, somewhere more private. I asked to come back another day so the cut could be finished and closer to what I wanted, but they booked me with the same stylist. She didn't do what I wanted the first time, so why would she be able to a few days later? The manager should have stepped in and offered to finished it. I cancelled the second appointment, and I already paid full price for the cut and tipped my stylist a normal amount, I'm not trying to get anything for free or put anyone on blast, I just don't want someone else to have this happen to them. I would strongly encourage you to ask about a stylist's experience before booking with them, the only real reason offered as to why my cut didn't go as planned was that the stylist was new to the floor. read more

I went to Lather for the first time as I was traveling to the US on business. My hair was a dark blond with some old highlights, and I wanted to move to a honey blond with a new cut. I was assigned to Miji for my appointment, and while the appointment started off ok with a discussion about the color and the cut, I pretty quickly became concerned when she started applying the color. I've never had someone layer on multiple colors one after the other with no clear method or separation. I tried to trust that it was the way they do things, but once I was washed and she dried a small portion it was clear that my hair was a very orange/blond. She suggested to put a toner all over to bring the color back down, which did seem to work ok, but what I've ended up with in the end was pretty much my natural dark blond/reddish color. While this isn't offensive, it's absolutely not what I paid $200 for and was disappointing to say the least. Not sure if there are other more experienced people at this salon that are great colorists, but I definitely would not recommend this stylist, and don't think she's really ready to be doing color on her own. read more

I debated writing this because I really like the people who work at lather but both times Ive gone there I've been extremely disappointed. I wanted to like it based on reviews and pictures I've seen of other clients but I always leave without feeling in love with my hair. The second time I went I had an updo with a braid and when I expressed I wasn't happy with it they made me feel as if it looked nice. I felt pressured to accept what was done. Had a unique layout and very retro - something I've never seen before with a salon. Kat did a cut & single process. She was so thorough and informative. I usually keep my hair really short, can't get rid of the military in me I guess, but I let my hair grow much longer than usual so I could warrant a salon hair cut. I went during the happy hour times where you can get a drink while your in the chair, definitely a different experience than i'm used to. There is a world of difference here and I can't say enough good things about this place. They can do wonders even for one, such as myself, stuck in a style that needs an update.
