Not only that, but what I learned while at the Dojo transcends the content itself as I learned how to truly learn. My first job is using a framework that I had never heard of before and in a language I had never used. Since I was able to go through the 3 full stacks, I got a big picture view of a typical full stack and was able to apply that to learning the things I needed to. I've had a lot of positive feedback at work with how quickly I'm moving and the quality of my code for a Junior Developer. I feel confident that I got all of the skills I needed at the Dojo. Other opportunities developed out of my time at the Dojo which have had a positive impact on my development and the community. First Hack Dallas was started as a collaborative effort by 6 other Coding Dojo Alumni and myself as a way to help new developers get more comfortable with the tech scene, have something to add to their portfolio, and as a way to serve a local organization serving the local community. www.firsthackdallas.com My investment was well worth it and will be paid for within about 6 months of employment. Thanks Coding Dojo Dallas!

During its years as a school, its nickname was "The Melting Pot School" because of its diverse student population. After it closed, it reopened in 1963 to 1969bas a Vocational School for adults teaching the construction trades. It received its historical Registration from Texas in 1971 and from Dallas in 1988. Today the building is used for private office spaces and by people like me who reserve it for a photography shoot. It is a beautiful building and I was happy to have the opportunity to record some of its beauty.

It was designed by prolific Dallas Architect A. B. Bristol and is the only remaining 19th century school building in Dallas. During the middle of the 20th century this was the principal school for Dallas' "Little Mexico" neighborhood and at times, as much as 92 percent of the school's students were Hispanic. The marker reads, "One of the first brick schools in Dallas system, this Victorian building was constructed in 1888 on the site of a pre-Civil War school organized by Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Dallas. In early decades this school drew pupils from several areas. Many students arrived each day in handsome carriages. In later times the student body came from many different nationalities, giving rise to nickname "Melting Pot School." From 1963 to 1969 the building housed a progressive vocational center, teaching construction trades to citizens of area." It is marker number 6663 and it was erected in 1971 by the State Historical Survey Committee. Today the building is used as office space for private businesses. There is street parking nearby. Super fun, super chill, and surprisingly informative. The scent selection amazing! I thought I knew what I liked until I started mixing and realized I might've been a vanilla+floral girl all along. The team is friendly, helpful, and makes sure you feel good about your candle before it's poured. No pressure, just good energy. The space is cozy and the whole experience felt like self-care with a social twist. For the price, it's an awesome value, and you leave with a custom candle and a solid good time. Would 100% come back for another class or even just to grab a gift!! Maybe scheduling a girls night soon!

I was able to visit their new candle bar at the Dallas Farmers location. It's so easy to walk in, make a customized candle, walk around the farmers market/browse the store, and come back to pick up your finished product! I made a Christmas scented candle to light in my husband and I's new home together and we absolutely LOVE it. One of the best smelling candles ever! We also got a candle kit (includes a candle snuffer and wick trimmer) that works great. Would recommend this experience with your friends or picking up one of their products!
