We are over here from the States where there is a large Vietnamese community around Washington D.C. plus I am half-Vietnamese., so I know what I'm talking about. After eating a lot of chips, sausage rolls, and other English staples, we wanted to get something a little healthier and familiar. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were with this meal. The pho broth had zero flavor. I got the pork vermicelli bowl, and besides being a really small portion, the pork did not taste like any Vietnamese pork I've ever had. As a Vietnamese, I was initially very intrigued to try the Pho franchise and after returning about 4 different times, I am still on the fence about it. This Pho is inside Westfield and it can get a little chaotic. I prefer eating at a full restaurant location rather than in a food court at the mall. The biggest downside is ordering your food and having it ready before you find yourself a table to sit! It's quite embarrassing carrying a tray of Pho around the block of tables 5 times... They have all the basic Vietnamese street food, like Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup) and Com Tam (Broken Rice). Sometimes the broth for Pho can be bland. At some locations, it taste like my mum's cooking. Other times, they miss the mark. The chicken for Bun Ga was horrible in general. It was more like salad with roasted chicken. More good street food from Westfield, this time Vietnamese. As other reviewers have said, you have to wait for the meal (today there was a long queue as well) but it's certainly worth the wait. Extremely fresh tasting food which is made to order, with side dishes of sauce at various levels of spicyness. The summer rolls really tasted like summer, which was quite an achievement for a winter's day in Westfield shopping centre. I wasn't feeling adventurous enough for the weasel coffee a rare coffee regurgitated by wild Vietnamese weasels. I came over a bit Catherine Tate when I saw that. I got a "Pho Xao Thit Ga" (£7.75) which are flat wok-fried noodles with peanuts, bean sprouts and greens, and pretty fierce chilli for England's standards. My noodles were meant to contain chicken and shrimp, but somehow they got lots of chicken into my noodles and no shrimp at all. Heck, I was hungry and didn't bother to request a change. (edit: There's an extra "Tom" suffix after the name of the dish if I wanted mine with prawns, which my sister probably missed out when ordering. Okay.) The noodles were very tasty, and the ingredients were generous. The spiciness level was definitely above that of the average apprehensive-when-it-comes-to-spicy-Asian-food English person, but it was manageable for myself - my spiciness-tolerance-level isn't that high either. My sister got the famed beef noodles. (edit: there are about 8 types of beef noodles on the menu and I don't know which one she got) I have no idea why the dish is the star of the menu, it really was nothing much. The beef balls were pretty good, but the soup was average. Maybe it's because I've had better ones from Southeast Asia itself, and that the dish is a rare treat in this part of the world? I know this isn't about pho per say, but I was well pissed at the people working at Westfield food court because they were doing sweet F.A while watching me struggle to lug a baby chair to a table. I know you work at a food court, I know it's sunday, I know it's a shit job. You are paid to help. SO HELP. Customer service- Nil point. In my frazzled and pissed mood, I asked my sister to order me a prawn bun- she swore she ordered me prawn, but I got a pork meatball one instead. HOT, with soggy noodles and enough bean sprouts to feed a family of 4. Roughly 4 pieces of ice berg and 8 thumb size "meat balls" which tasted so floury and weird that i thought I bit into raw meat. The bun itself came swimming in soy sauce and therefore the entire meal tasted like an extremely badly made, semi raw stir fried noodle rather than a refreshing salad. I can still taste the disgustingness after 2 scoops of gelato mio and an amazing home made prime rib. The horridness sort of go away when I ate the delicious food, but then it came back. They were the right size, mind you. They weren't American size, they were the perfect size! How dare you feed me this shit! Pho rice noodles shouldn't be this fat and soggy! The meat weren't supposed to be this cooked! My broth wasn't supposed to taste artificial! You were supposed to give me a bowl of rice noodles (cooked for 2 minutes, washed in cold water), a broth from a cow's hip bone (or some area) simmered for 24 hours (to get the bone fat in the broth), topped with onions, basil, mint, and coriander, with thin-sliced rare steak that will cook in me broth! Ask me what else could go wrong? My egg rolls weren't crunchy, no noodles inside, no meat, just nasty soil-tasting bean sprouts and carrots. No lettuce to wrap it in. It was the first time I didn't finish a bowl of pho and I was starving. I hate you! You even charged me £12! Not even worth a fiver for both! We came here to grab a quick bite before the mall closed after a long day of shopping. We weren't too hungry so just needed something light. We decided on pho ga (chicken soup with rice noodles) and the imperial rolls. The imperial rolls were pretty good, nice and crispy. The noodles though.. for real... I've had sooo much better. The soup was ok but the noodles weren't chewy or fresh like pho noodles should be. They actually gave some decent amount of chicken though. The side mint was a nice touch.... but no lime!? I ordered the spicy beef soup with one of the Vietnamese beers which Pho offers. The beer did a perfect job of neutralizing all of the peppers and spices that were used in the dish. I was delighted with all of the herbs and spices used in the soup to create a more complex dish; however, I was a tad bit disappointed with the beef. I've been four times now and tried four meals, including sides, and been thoroughly disappointed each time. A giant big bowl of fresh, tasty and very satisfying Bun noodles was exactly what I needed after a hard day's shopping. They have a great selection of rice-noodle soups, stir fry noodles and interesting-looking salads - all freshly made to order, which does mean a bit of a wait at peak times (20 minutes on Sat eve) but well worth it! We had only been in England for 3 days, but the Pho withdrawal was hitting hard and this Pho restaurant appeared like a mirage in the desert. Oh my, how much did I dislike? Let me count the ways... I love pho! and I have the hardest time finding Pho in England so I am beyond delighted when I do find it... Pho puts me in a happy mood for the rest of the day... during lunch hours I think this place has the longest line out of any others in the food court which is soo annoying. but it was worth it! im so happy to know they have a pho place at the westfield mall i will be coming back just for a pho fix :) I was also happy to see Lao beer since I went to Laos I have never seen any other place in america or England with Lao beer... it brought back sweet memories... the only thing is it is £4 and in Laos it is like 20 Pence for a beer...crazy English prices... anyways I will be coming back to this place for sure. This is now the FOURTH Pho location we've been to in the UK! I think I should get a free one, or something. This one is on the upper floor of the Westfield shopping center, in a little food court area. They have a slightly smaller menu compared to the proper restaurant locations, but the prices are the same. I ordered the chicken pho again, and the green beans/sugar snaps in peanut sauce as a side. They gave us an electric buzzer while we took a seat (seating area in this part of Westfields is indoor, but great for people watching and has chargers for your phone!) and the food was ready in about 5 minutes. The pho comes in a wide bowl, not disposable even though it's a food court. Nice as it feels more like a proper restaurant. They have hot sauces at the counter that you can use to spice up your meal, and they give you a little bowl of herbs/chillis/bean sprouts as always. After doctoring our soups to the proper temperature, we dug in - and they were lovely. Just as they always are at a Pho restaurant, the broth was lovely. I know it's not the classic pho, but I think the chicken broth is almost better than the beef! It's more soothing in a way, like Asian chicken noodle soup. It was hot (temperature-wise, also spicy after I dumped in some hot sauce), and truly hit the spot on a day when it was pouring rain. The chicken was juicy and the noodles were abundant. I love the crisp veggies in the sweet and yummy peanut sauce as well, if you want a veg they are probably your best option. Very affordable, and a deliciously filling meal as always. The soup here is always fresh, light and filling - though the beef pho was much tastier than the chicken - and the spring rolls are crispy and yum. The fresh fruit juice is lovely and it amounts to a really good lunch when you are hungry from all that shopping. Only downsides are that sometimes the line is long and the staff can be a bit rude, and also it is a bit pricey and nothing like as rich as more authentic food. worth a try though read more
