How can this establishment claim their soup as Pho when the broth doesn't even come close to tasting like Pho? The broth tasted like that beef cube that you drop in hot water then the noodles were thick! The fried egg rolls were raw inside, and it's made out of pork. Couldn't eat it! Pretty bad. Not even close to Vietnamese food.

As a Vietnamese, I was initially very intrigued to try the Pho franchise and after returning about 4 different times, I am still on the fence about it. This Pho is inside Westfield and it can get a little chaotic. I prefer eating at a full restaurant location rather than in a food court at the mall. The biggest downside is ordering your food and having it ready before you find yourself a table to sit! It's quite embarrassing carrying a tray of Pho around the block of tables 5 times... They have all the basic Vietnamese street food, like Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup) and Com Tam (Broken Rice). Sometimes the broth for Pho can be bland. At some locations, it taste like my mum's cooking. Other times, they miss the mark. The chicken for Bun Ga was horrible in general. It was more like salad with roasted chicken. I drowned that dish with fish sauce and it still didn't taste any better. Food is mostly decent, but it is NOT authentic Vietnamese food.

So let me qualify this by saying I am not a conossier of vietnamese food. Located in the food court of Westfield this is a relatively stapple / decent place to grab a quick bite. I have eaten here on two occassions but to be honest the food court at Westfield - as well as the restaurants offers so much variety I don't think this is a particular enditment. Avoid turning up too late during lunch as there tend to be queues - I guess that means that people do love this place.

More good street food from Westfield, this time Vietnamese. As other reviewers have said, you have to wait for the meal (today there was a long queue as well) but it's certainly worth the wait. Extremely fresh tasting food which is made to order, with side dishes of sauce at various levels of spicyness. The summer rolls really tasted like summer, which was quite an achievement for a winter's day in Westfield shopping centre. I wasn't feeling adventurous enough for the weasel coffee a rare coffee regurgitated by wild Vietnamese weasels. I came over a bit Catherine Tate when I saw that. Coffee, regurgitated by weasels, and this was Shepherd's Bush. Dirty B'stards ;-) But instead had a freshly made carrot, apple and ginger juice which balanced the spicy meal really well.

Arrived at 8pm, long queue. Service is fast enough and you will find place to sit. Ordered a bun cha gio Bo xao sa: in other words vermicelli rice with beef and vegetable. Not the best, I ever eat. Nems were to dry and not enough beef.

"Pho Xao Thit Ga" (£7.75) from Pho @ Westfields Shepherd's Bush

I got a "Pho Xao Thit Ga" (£7.75) which are flat wok-fried noodles with peanuts, bean sprouts and greens, and pretty fierce chilli for England's standards. My noodles were meant to contain chicken and shrimp, but somehow they got lots of chicken into my noodles and no shrimp at all. Heck, I was hungry and didn't bother to request a change. (edit: There's an extra "Tom" suffix after the name of the dish if I wanted mine with prawns, which my sister probably missed out when ordering. Okay.) The noodles were very tasty, and the ingredients were generous. The spiciness level was definitely above that of the average apprehensive-when-it-comes-to-spicy-Asian-food English person, but it was manageable for myself - my spiciness-tolerance-level isn't that high either. My sister got the famed beef noodles. (edit: there are about 8 types of beef noodles on the menu and I don't know which one she got) I have no idea why the dish is the star of the menu, it really was nothing much. The beef balls were pretty good, but the soup was average. Maybe it's because I've had better ones from Southeast Asia itself, and that the dish is a rare treat in this part of the world? The food court is a lovely place to sit in, and there's free wi-fi too.

I dont know if the owners actually had pho.... So bad what a waste of time and money. I think plain water and noodles would taste better.

I was offered a small bowl of homemade kimchi to go with my Tiger beer, which I was delighted by! I've wanted to try Kimchi for AGES! And it was so tasty :-) I ordered a king prawn pho. I also asked if they could give it a bit of a kick to try and sink my blossoming cold and they kindly obliged. Not too hot, but enough to give it some warmth. Omnomnom! I had one of the soups with rice vermicelli, beef and vegetables. It was good but no matter what spiciness I added, the broth still seemed too bland for my preference. Same for my wife's rice vermicelli with mixed vegetables. The little bowl of pickled vegetables that was brought to the table were delicious. Just the right amount of spice and pickling. The restaurant is very clean, nicely decorated and it's front tables open to the sidewalk, with a couple of tables outside. Also the price was very reasonable. I'd like to give these nice people 4 stars for all the above, but the main entree failed to satisfy.

We weren't informed of out of stocks until we ordered, I definitely think it's a fair expectation to know of shortages before we read the menu. In the end, we shared fried squid, Viet spring rolls, betal leaf-wrapped beef and summer rolls. The squid was very good, the spring rolls were bland, the beef was not served with the garnishes I've experienced in other restaurants (vermilcelli, mixed herbs, leaves and crushed nuts) but tasted ok. The summer rolls were as boring as they always are and all portions were small. Mains, we tried the shakin' beef, prawn and tofu curries, BBQ pork special, caramel pork belly and the pancake. The curries were clearly the same base with the prawns or tofu added for serving and nothing exciting at all. The BBQ pork was very dry and hadn't had enough marination time. The pancake was good large portion, stuffed with spring onions, onions, prawns and pork with lettuce and herbs in the side with a good dip on the side. We ordered Vietnamese iced coffees to finish and they took forever to come. Overall, service was friendly and well-meant but on the slow side and not all the food was at an acceptable level. Overall, I would say it's a mixed bag but if you order squid then pancake, you will do just fine!!

This is a little gem in Leyton. What makes this Vietnamese restaurant stand outs, is that it has a slightly different added menu, it still makes the traditional food, but stuffed chicken wings? And there was no skimping on the portion sizes. I left that restaurant quite full. The venue itself was spacious and open. really cool modern and simple decorating, but it works. Even when the restaurant was full, still did not feel crowded, quite the opposite, relax with a buzz vibe. That was also due to the part of the waiters, who were very friendly, attentive, and on point. They have some really good lunch offers at the moment, so that really helps, but generally the cost is quite decent and value for money, comparing to other Vietnamese restaurants. Other than parking and its awkward location, one way narrow road, I would say this is a good place to eat.
