BEST FUCKEN HANOI STYLE PHO (outside of Hanoi of course). During my travels in Europe earlier last month, my boyfriend and I had decided to make the drive to Sapa Market to visit this little pho store, which my new friend in Praha had referred us to. One of the best decisions in my life i've got to say. The pho bo is to die for, the beef is fresh and tender, and the broth words cannot explain this hot delicious broth. They even serve the pho with a huge dish of chinese donuts on the side. The traditional hanoi way of eating pho is by dipping the deep fried donut into the broth, it might sound strange but its soooooo delicious! It makes the pho in Vancouver seem very lackluster; what I would do to have something like this in Vancouver...
The restaurant was very busy and we even saw a group of local Czech guys in there and they must've ate about 10 doughnuts each with their pho bo :D. The vietnamese people who run the store speak fluent czech (which is very strange to me because I was not aware of the huge population of northern vietnamese people in this little country!).
A few days after Czech we flew to Saigon and the first thing I did when we landed was have a bowl of pho in one of their most famous pho restaurants (it's called Pho Hoa, and no it doesn't have anything to do with the Pho Hoa franchise chain that we have in north america). Pho Quynh was clearly the winner, now to make time to travel to Hanoi one of these days to do another comparison. read more
