1 Star -- Absolutely Disgusting Experience of Racial Profiling, if I could give 0 I would I am beyond disappointed and disgusted by my experience at Phobia. My friend and I had planned a fun night, and he was so excited to go as it was my first time at a haunted house. He arrived and was on the phone with me, simply trying to find my car so he could come get me. Before he even made it to my car door, he was aggressively approached and accused of trying to break into cars. Instead of asking questions or verifying anything, the main security guy immediately escalated the situation. He refused to even speak with me when I tried to explain, told my friend he had to leave or he'd take him to jail, and claimed he had a "witness" when no one ever came over or saw what actually happened. He had just bought our tickets online, but they kicked us out without a refund, without any respect, and without listening. It was humiliating and infuriating to see someone instantly stereotyped and treated like a criminal for doing absolutely nothing wrong. What was supposed to be a fun night turned into a painful reminder of how casually people still weaponize assumptions against Black men. Scary fun for all ages (I mean 10 and up). Quite a few jump scares. Lots of creepy scenes and freaky characters. The little blue haired clown was the creepiest. For $25 it is a screamingly good time. Added bonus is the background of the boardwalk. If you make it through the winding maze of haunts, go ride the bullet to take the edge off. read more

Phobia has been open since 1996 and I went last night (10/1/22) and it seems nothing has changed since 1996 and the props are REALLY old from early 2000's & 90's the haunted houses smell old and I didn't get scared once. They just bang on the walls and yell get out . Waste of time and a huge let down . It's just kids trying to scare you. This place is definitely overhyped. Won't be returning. read more

Being honest here, this haunted house is way too overhyped. I've been wanting to come for yearrssss and finally decided to go this year. We did exile which is three houses in one. But it only lasted like a good 30 minutes and wasn't even scary. It was just really dark and had little amount of characters. I would say don't waste your money next year. If you like being rushed into large groups into empty rooms, then this is the place for you. My son and I visit a different haunted house every year and over the past 8 years this is the worse one. I don't mind standing in long lines to enter the haunted house, but I do mind standing in line in the haunted house because they shove so many people in at one time. The workers here were just super rude and very unscary, its definitely not worth 40$ at all. there were even really bad costumes its like someone turned a bunch of old warehouses that used ti be metal shops. all in all, it was definitely a 15$ experience. just imagine your dad setting up a scary house for you in your garage with a smoke machine lol. I wanted to have a scary haunted house but these were mediocre. The attractions are so small and is not fun when you can see what is going to pop up next. People were shoving and running everywhere to the point we couldn't enjoy it. Clown attraction was the best as not a lot of people were there and we got to get a little scared. read more

I went to 4 haunted houses last year , Redrum which was the best and most fun out of them all, 13th floor, Phobia, Creepy Hollow which was the worst one. Phobia had potential to be good but it just wasn't. They don't have a good attitude towards their customers, like if you arrive 30 minutes before close they refuse service, that already rubbed me the wrong way on their website. Once we went and got up to the ticket booth HOLY SHIT it was SO expansive to see all 8 houses. So we bought 3 houses just to see how good they were then go back and buy the rest if they're good. We bought Dawn of Machine , Clown Mania and Mind Control. We went into Dawn of Machine first. It had really cool sets but it was really lacking in actors, and when there was actors all they did was yell "GET OUT" or bang on the wall. I wasn't scared AT ALL and mind you , I'm super easy to scare a little kid could scare me if they wanted too. No one in this house scared me. Once we got out of there we went into Mind Control. Like the first house , NO ONE SCARED ME. Only one actor tried scaring me and they still didn't. In the last room we caught two actors having a conversation when we walked up and they still continued on with their convo even after we walked past them. I was so disappointed. We went into Clown Mania don't get me wrong the theming in this house was AMAZING it was in 3D which was really cool but like the other houses IT WAS NOT SCARY. I'm terrified of clowns and these actors all they did was yell and say "wanna play" it was rather funny than it was scary. Once we got out we were so disappointed that we didn't even go check out the rest of the houses, we left immediately. Phobia, do better. They have almost no actors in the houses and the 2/3 actors that are there are too busy having conversations to even acknowledge you. I was so disappointed. Don't waste your time. Went with a group on Friday 13th and had a great time! Plenty of parking available, made easy by the staff directing entering/exiting traffic. Upon entering, you have choice of five houses plus Exile attraction which is three houses combined. Exile alone was worth it! Lots of jumps and scares from actors/ animatronics and crazy effective decor around every corner. Every house had a different theme- everything from clowns to asylums, guts and chainsaws. Mania was the most alluring with its trippy blacklight maze. Outside of the houses, actors entertained and posed for pictures. There is a food truck inside with beverages and snacks, some seating in benches, but mostly just open space. There are port-a-potty's available. The staff coordinating the lines were efficient - gave plenty of time between groups but kept the lines moving. Bring comfortable shoes cause there is lots of walking on gravel, dirt. Overall, a good time, left satisfied with the experience and can now rest my voice from all the screaming. read more

Ive been to almost every haunted house in Houston and Phonbia (by far) is my favorite. Excile was every haunted house lover's dream. It was a long, scary and creative walk through! The best I've seen. Ive lived in Houston my whole life and never experienced Phobia and I am so glad I did this year. had a blast here the other night with my coworkers! it was spooky fun !!! all the workers there were extremely respectful and their costumes were great ! i think i lost 5 years of my life from being so petrified and screaming so much, but it was totally worth it! highly recommend for some halloween fun :) read more

We got there exactly at 8pm so the lines weren't long at all which was good. We ended up using our 3 tickets (per person) to do the exile house. When asking a worker which one they recommend he told us it would be way better then doing the other ones. Which ended up being true. Although we were told multiple times that exile would be around 25 minutes long. Even though they told us 25 minutes we were done probably around 10 minutes going at a regular pace (we didn't run). We we're definitely disappointed that it wasn't longer but it was definitely the scariest one. Since we got done super early and spent 45 minutes in the car to get there we decided to buy another ticket and we went into the mind control house. This completely ruined the experience for us. It wasn't scary one bit, they had us go in a group with strangers (so we didn't get to lead and get the full experience) and not a single person jumped out at us, they were simply just walking and talking to us trying to "scare us". Majority of the time we were just casually walking from how unscary things were. And on top of all of that, they didn't space out the groups long enough so we ended up catching up to the group in front of us. I will say if u plan on going i recommend the exile house over anything else. It definitely was the most put together and scary. read more

BEST HAUNTED HOUSES IN HOUSTON I was so spooked, the actors were great and really creative. My boyfriend and I had a great time, don't think that because you're in the back you're safe!!! One of the houses smelled like a locker room but the rest were great, definitely worth the trip. What can I say? I still LOVE going to haunted houses. They have always made me laugh more than get scared. None the less, I do have to be holding onto someone the entire time, and I do still scream when anything jumps out at me. Tonight was the perfect night for a haunted house too, you never want to go to a spook house when its muggy and hot out. I heard an ad earlier today on the radio for phobia and I was determined to go. Convinced the boy, who by the way has only been to one haunted house in his entire life, and down 290 we went. Soon as we pulled into the off-roadish driveway for Phobia, we could smell the teenage angst. It rained yesterday so it was a bit muddy out where all the parking is located. After walking past the not so pleasant smelling portable bathrooms to the ticket booth, we decided on the Simon Fowler Woods haunted house. There were 6 options to choose from, and since I had already seen the 3D clowns a few years back, this was the one I was interested in. Not much I can say as for details without giving away all the fun, but it was indeed scary! Well... ya know... scary enough for you to jump every corner you turn. As I said earlier, these things don't actually scare me, but they get the job done. I usually scream and then bust out laughing. The pricing is reasonable I suppose, not like the good old days, but I won't go on that rant. $12 per person, per haunted house. Or if you do more than one haunted house you get price breaks. If you do all 6, it costs you $50 per person. We got there just before 9pm (on a Sat night btw) and didn't have to wait in line. As we were leaving at 9:35 the cars were piled up out the driveway just to park. So go and get scared. Its pretty fun! And one more thing, the person who went with me...I wont mention any names... he jumped to the ceiling several times. The chainsaw guy called him out. LOL. read more

I seriously look forward to accomplish trying out every haunt amusement park in Texas someday. This year Phobia was my destination and it was a total FAIL ! If your curious go back and read my other reviews on past haunts I have been to and you will see I am very fair when I review. This place is over priced, seems over rated by the public and the staff and actors are not proud of what they do. Actors or better yet "Non-Actors" , did little to no effort, they are suppose to be scary not rude ? right? I may be wrong I think big money making Haunted houses (like Phobia, I'm sure they made a killing this season) should seriously shoot for hiring people that are genuinely interested in theater when hiring actors. Not just random people that think they can act or take this job as a joke. I wonder if Phobia had actual try outs when interviewing ..The main house was the lamest, I seriously went a good five or ten minutes without anyone coming out to scare us lol.. I had to yell out "fresh meat , fresh meat" my damn self to see if any actors had the time to come and scare us .. they were probably on a cigarette break I'm sure... not a big difference between the three houses though. They were essentially the same themed extension of one an other. oh yea, as always at the end of the final house we were chased by a chain saw guy wearing a Jason Mask... I didn't know Leather face from Tex Massacre and Jason from Friday 13th had unprotected sex and had a kid ..wow really/! I went to Phobia Haunted house expecting one thing and instead my money was wasted due to the employees getting into a fight. Couldn't enjoy any of it after that. Took all the thrill away. Phobia should have given me a full refund after this mess. I suggest not spending your money here. The manager had the audacity to ask me was it me talking in the video I recorded of the fight. I definitely won't be back here again. That was $165 I could have spent on something else. read more

We had the BEST time at Phobia! I haven't been to a haunted house in years and wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved every minute of it. If you go, I recommend going into all houses for the experience but the absolute favorites of mine were the 3D Clown House, GET THE 3D Glasses!!! They're only a dollar, but I would've paid $20! It makes the experience unreal, very trippy. The #1 fave for me was the Exile House... HOLY!! I don't want to give it away but just know, it's BIG, it's bigger than 3 of the other houses combined and it's SCARY! You CANNOT miss the Exile House!! Everyone should experience this! The actors are AMAZING! They play into their roles so well, and they're not always hiding in the house, so beware! I can't wait to go back! read more

It's not the best haunted house that I've been to, but it was fun and entertaining. We went to darke institute and claustrophobia. It was $30 a per for the 2. I heard from a review that darke institute was the best one, but that's not true. Claustrophobia was much better. They were short, but no so short that I would ask for a refund or anything. There were a bunch of couches in darke institute which took away from the experience. They looked more like places for the workers to hang out between customers than props or decoration. I don't want to add and spoilers, so I won't say much. I went with my wife and niece. They were almost constantly screaming and holding onto me with all their might. I was startled and laughed many time, but that's about it. It was expensive, yet worth it at the time. However, I really doubt I will go to this same one next year. read more

Great experience!! Love how they offer a variety of prices and amounts of houses you go to. DO NOT go into a haunted house with a group over 5 people because you will NOT be scared. You should go in the smallest groups possible so the front of your group isn't experiencing everything while you watch. I would come back for the exile house! read more

What we were led to believe would be A3045 minute wait is turned into about a 2 and a 1/2 hour wait. They refused to give you any refunds for your money, but they also did will not prevent people from smoking in line which it clearly says they will do on their website. Well this ones old but 2 stars for this. First for a haunted house to be as short as this was to spend more time driving to it than actually spending here on the sight was a very big disappointment to me. Especially considering the prices I would've just stayed home. The parking is definitely ridiculous NO lighting what so ever in the parking for anyone, and to me personally definitely doesn't make you you feel safe especially considering this business is in a dark field with no other business surrounding it at all. The only lighting on the whole property comes from where the tickets are sold and that it, there's people running all over from the haunted houses scaring customers and all, the only good thing about this part is there is a police presence, but it's only a couple officers for a vast amount of people. We went through the houses in no time at all it was okay but definitely a disappointment definitely thought it would be more considering all the hype that we heard about this place. But now I know the hype was nothing but hype. Definitely gonna try another haunted house this year and hope the experience is a lot better. read more

This was not as expected. This is a great place for kids and young teenagers. A little cheesy and was not worth $50. They missed a lot of opportunities to scare you and the actors were always expectable and always in lighted areas. Half of them were wearing cheap costumes and didn't even try to scare us. Prior to deciding to venture out of my "comfort zone" here in South Houston for some Halloween fun, I decide to do a little research on what was the best haunted house in the Houston Metropolitan area. All signs led to Phobia 290. So we filled our tank and off we went. After about 45 minutes of driving, due to the Northbound Saturday night traffic on 45, we arrived to a dirt road entrance. Pre-context - the most repetitive CON for this haunted house had been the accumulation of "mud" due to rainy weather. Well, no rain in Houston for 2-weeks so no problem right? The entrance to the parking lot is approximately 1/4 mile in and once you get there it is all dirt and lots of it. Cars coming in were constantly creating dust clouds of debris that continued all the way up to the ticket booths...so Asthmatics beware. Our group consisted of myself 38, my wife 31, my son 15 (this was mainly for him) and 3 other 30-ish friends. One of our friends also brought her wheel chair-bound daughter who was 15. There are 6 attractions in all. 5 separate haunted houses and one giant attraction, which has 3 scary attractions including the haunted woods. My family opted to buy the 5 house attraction at $45 per person (see coupon on web page at www.darke.com. The rest of my party had to buy the 4 house attraction at $35 per person, because 3-D clown phobia was not wheel chair accessible. General notes: We arrived at 8pm (plenty dark) shortly after the park had opened at 7:30pm. After waiting to assemble the rest of our party, we proceeded to the ticket desk at 8:30. Tickets were secured in hand at 8:40 (NOTE CASH ONLY AT TICKET BOOTHS. However, tickets can be purchased online in other formats...several ATM's on the premises). We entered the first haunted house at approximately 8:45 and in a whirlwind, we had completed all 5 by 10pm. Have in mind this was not Halloween weekend. Average wait - 5 minutes. Average walk-thru time "WALKING SLOWLY" - 8 minutes. OK no spoilers here just some general information about each attraction and my families rankings of each attraction in order from best to worst. #1 3-D Clown Phobia - glasses provided...none of us had clown phobias, but my son was screaming the most in this one...especially at the end. Even the costumed performers were laughing hysterically. This house had A/C thank god! Seemed like the longest attraction. (5 SCREAMS on my sons scare-o-meter) #2 Dawn of the Machine - cyberpunk theme...not so scary, but the animatronics were awesome and the sculpture work /artwork is on spot. Walk slowly even if the people behind you are pushing you to move faster and witness all of its glory. Tight corridors and extremely hot and muggy in this one. (2 SCREAMS on my sons scare-o-meter) #3 The Darke Institute - probably the most enthusiastic performers on this night. A good blend of gore, animatronics, and sound. Lots of performers in-your-face. Even several hanging upside down from banisters in the ceiling. Unfortunately, probably the shortest attraction. (3 1/2 SCREAMS on my sons scare-o-meter) #4 Mind Control (asylum) - skin clad nurses and blood...lots of it...Performer make-up in this one was the weakest. Many performers just walking around without any facial make-up in nurse costumes splattered with blood. Lots of younger performers not even interacting with the crowd just aimlessly walking around in the attraction, maybe that's suppose to be part of the effect. Many animatronic-like effects seemed to be dysfunctional in this one. (2 SCREAMS on my sons scare-o-meter) #5 Claustrophobia - defined as a fear of being in tight spaces. Ok some tight corridors and twists and a short little 20 degree ramp, but if I had this fear, I don't think this attraction would have invoked it. I was so looking forward to this one especially because of its description on darke.com, "...gravity meets electromagnetism", "...21st century nightmare", are you talking about the technology that was suppose to be in this attraction...NONE! "...an amalgam of physical contradictions", extremely poetic, but c'mon are you for real. Finally, "...up is sideways and down is a long, long, drop." Didn't see that at all, what were you on when you wrote this description Darke.com. Sorry for the cynicism, but I was really disappointed. Maybe if you didn't have this description, it would have just been a poor attraction. With regards to scares. Some performers jumping from behind corners, but not much to see here in what could have been the best attraction in the park. (1 SCREAM on my sons scare-o-meter) You can skip this one on my meter. Some closing thoughts...Overall, it was definitely worth a visit. My son had a lot of fun and it was good to see that. As for us old farts, perhaps we have outgrown the fear of haunted houses, but we can still fear the dent that this visit made to our pocket books...LOL Enjoy. read more

"Phobia sucks!" The only thing to fear here is the mud and over crowding inside the houses. This one kid got trampled. A lot of people lost their shoes in the mud. And there was always this one guy in back steaming "GO, there's not a stop sign!" Not worth it trust me. read more
