I cannot say enough about this office. I'll start with their around Efficiency; starting with the Chris at the Front Desk. He was friendly and helpful. My wait time was less than 5 minutes. Doctor Claire and Dr assistant Anna, both treated me intelligently. They were both attentive; And the doctor paused and took time to deal with me as a human being. This review is long overdue. Phoebe Rich's Clinic gave me back my life. Every person from receptionist to physician's assistant to doctor (notably Drs Hare and Rich) is remarkably empathetic and competent. In spite of severe eczema, I'd stopped going to doctors prior to this because none of them could/would help. PC told me it wasn't in his wheelhouse, and 3 dermatologists told me either use more topical steroids or to see my PC. My sister was the one who called to make the initial appointment at phoeberichmd.com because I was too demoralized. Dr. Hare IMMEDIATELY did testing and prescribed non- steroidal medication. Within a month, I felt human again. Everyone was incredibly kind, and after long fruitless experiences with dismissive and too-busy doctor, I was shocked. I saw Dr. Phoebe Rich a little while back for some fungus on my left big toe - unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with her. I was referred to Dr. Rich by a dermatologist I had been seeing for a few years that had been treating my toenail fungus with an oral anti-fungal medication. There had been some improvement, but the fungus never completely went away and as soon as I went off of the medication, it came back with a vengeance. So when my dermatologist told me about Dr. Rich and how she specializes in difficult nail diseases, and is known worldwide in the field, I was very excited and hopeful! Before I share my experience, I do want to say that I found Dr. Rich to be friendly and funny. But, like some other reviewers have mentioned, my time with her felt rushed. She looked at my toe and immediately said that it wasn't a fungus - this was after I had just told her that the anti-fungal medication I'd been taking had helped a bit. But she was pretty dismissive about it, so I just let her continue on (plus she's the specialist, right?!) She told me that my toenail wasn't fully attached to my nail bed anymore. I asked her if she could just remove my toenail so that it could have a new chance at life - but she said it wouldn't help because nail beds don't ever grow back so my toenail would just always be partially detached. She then told me there was really nothing else that could be done about it! I was absolutely flabbergasted by this and just left feeing disappointed and dismissed. I then decided I would try a podiatrist. Long story short, he said I had BOTH a detached nail bed as well as toenail fungus and agreed that we should remove the toenail. Less than six months later, my toenail had grown back - fully attached with absolutely no fungus. It has now been almost two years since he removed it and it is just the sweetest, most perfect toenail you ever did see. So while this story ends well, my experience with Dr. Rich was a bummer - especially with her being a specialist in this! read more

I have been going to dermatologists for a variety of reasons for 50 years and your office is by far the best of the best. Additionally, I have been a retail manager for many, many years and feel as though I am an expert on customer service. From the moment my wife and I walked in we were greeted with a smile and warm hello. Check-in was a breeze; the waiting room was bright and clean. My wait time was minimal and again I was greeted with a big smile and hello from Olivia. Olivia made me feel comfortable and assured me I would love my Dr. and the office. Within just a few minutes Dr. Moore arrived and "off we went". For the very first time in a very long time I felt both "seen and heard"; what a joy that was!! My exam was extensive but at no time did I feel uncomfortable or rushed. Dr. Moore asked insightful, thoughtful questions, listen to my answers, asking follow-up questions when needed. Dermatological questions can at times be embarrassing and difficult to discuss with your Dr. This office seems to cater to women, is run by women, and looks to be staffed with mostly women. I am a chronic psoriasis sufferer and the old TV commercials of the "heartbreak of psoriasis" don't even begin to cover the effects of this autoimmune disease. After almost 20 years of dealing with and covering up the plaques and redness I have given up and was living a miserable existence. Then a friend told me about Dr. Phoebe Rich. Dr. Rich got me on an experimental drug study (Abbott Labs ABT-874) that started to have an effect almost immediately. Now, 8 months later I am largely cleared up and leading much happier and more productive life. Aside from the study Dr. Rich has helped with several other small skin and nail related troubles and she has been fantastic. Her staff of assistants are nothing shy of amazing as well, I can only assume that Dr. Rich's confidence and drive to cure the masses rubs off on them as well. I saw Dr. Anna Hare for the removal of a cyst under my skin, between my eyebrows. I am incredibly happy with how the process went, but I want to call a couple things out. Both the doctor and her assistant went into significant detail about what I needed to do to help ensure the facial wound healed as cleanly as possible: how often to clean it, what to clean it with, what to dress it with. I walked out without any confusion over what my responsibilities were between the appointments. I have not had many doctors go into that level of detail. I appreciate it. Surgery is an unpleasant experience in general, and even more so when it is on your face and your eyes are covered. I knew that my eyes would be covered after the initial consult, and I was able to take time to figure out what I needed to be ok with that. In my case, just before the procedure I asked Dr. Hare to over-describe what she was doing so I could better understand the tugging on my face that I couldn't see. She did that, and it significantly deflated my anxiety and stress during the procedure. If I have a need to, I will be returning to them for treatment. read more

Her staff is exceedingly professional, kind, patient and never makes you wait for any period of time. Having _disability_ interrupt my oh so vibrant 30s was not...fun. Dr Rich was a caring person who used a rare tool i n an uncommon treatment to help me improve - so I could move on. Phoebe Rich is a smart, soft-spoken, confident. gentle professional, willing to improvise to help her Clients. She is a lovely person who did not make staff hound me when my Workplace Insurer failed to pay Claims. Her office is in an enjoyable location - on NW 23rd, so I made our series of visits into mini-vacations. Who-hoo! You can do it, too. The rest is for those who like gory details, or who seek to understand and help others. Many workers experience a chronic discomfort called irritant-type dermatitis - caused by contact with NCR paper in workplaces. Plenty of MDs, like my Doc at Kaiser, are competent to *quickly* diagnose what they saw going on - but most I saw could not do much more, except sell cortisone cream and sign an Employer note & Insurance form saying it was serious - enough to order me to stop work . Those who don't go beyond treating symptoms, by only prescribing creams and months off work, are not really hearing us. Injured workers want to heal, and get back to work, not just accept chronic conditions. They did recommend I seek out Dermatologists to find one who may try something different..but I should get used to chronic pain and expect permanent disability. Dr Francine Storrs is impressive (diagnosis confirmation phase). An OHSU specialist in skin conditions, she quickly taught me what to do, and not do - to best manage into future years; and asked permission to use my case as a teaching object with Med Students. She had photos taken, & a group of Docs learned to note workplace impact by evidence: 5 or 6 colors of ink stained my red, bent, cracked and painful hands. I had not yet told her about my daily, rapid work in Criminal Case Files to try to help 40-60 Clients a day, at the Metro Public Defender. She could see - and said I was a hard worker. I hate knowing that many public servants are still at risk of harm to their hands (and nervous systems) from daily contact with the chemical laden _sandpaper_ sold by the NCR Co. (does NCR care?? ) Dr Rich listened and helped, when most Docs said that I must leave my job and accept permanent disability. They prescribed pharmaceutical creams (and stinky tar), but didn't try anything else, even when told the prescription didn't help. Extremely dis-empowering. After 7 months, I had to agree that there was not enough improvement to return to work without daily discomfort and worsening symptoms, so I was left on my own, with no medical benefits or income. (This is too common..) Thankfully, several things began to change, and Dr Rich was part of it. Another savvy woman (at the North Webster Disability Office) recommended that I create a plan to take charge of my own recovery and future, including to stress reduction through Chi Gong and alternative therapies to help me cope with the major transition that was happening. I began to see a woman Naturopath who astounded me with the words: We will work to HEAL this. It was a very different goal, and a wonderful RELIEF just to hear the words - Heal. I had hope again. I'd also gotten a referral to Dr Rich at the NW 23rd Westover Clinic, hearing good things from others. She is willing to try new approaches. Dr Rich had in her office an ugly machine not typically used for irritant type dermatitis. I'd been a test-bunny often before, so after hearing the risks, I was all for trying it. The GRENZ RAY machine looked like it came from the 1950's - and focused intense light on my hands in a series of treatments. Along with the changes I was making, due to Dr Storrs, the Naturopath, and the Social Worker's approach to educating a patient to take charge of their own recovery...I began to see improvement. I also got acupuncture; and shifted to heavy creams ONLY for relief (instead of lotions) as Dr Storrs taught me. Had I not engaged actively in seeking healing, I might still be in great discomfort. I was ready - and jumped to action - when I read of a Native American traditional healing plant: _for dry, cracked skin that will not otherwise heal_ ... The Sword-leaf Plantain described and pictured in the book was growing on my curb! It worked a miracle overnight, closing open cracks on all 10 fingers - to begin a major recovery for my parched, bent, sore pinkies. Dr Riches innovative treatment series was a gentle adjunct -I think an important part of the process of reaching an acceptable stasis, so I could resume nearly normal activities. You will always receive the best care here. They know what they are doing and use the latest technology in skin care. I go here every year for a good overview of my moles. I have a history of melanoma on both sides of my family so I always make sure to get a yearly check up. Dr. Rich has an amazing bedside manor. She is very patient and thorough. I never feel rushed. She does a good job of checking everywhere including my scalp for any signs of abnormalities. Her assistant Dr. Jill Moore is someone I tend to see more as of late as Dr. Rich is now focusing on finger and toe nail issues. Dr. Moore is great. Very attentive. I have only had one mole removed and it was painless. Good job of localized anesthesia by the assistant and the procedure was quick. I always feel I am in good hands at this office. read more

I've been to Dr. Rich for many years and she is bright, compassionate and skilled. She has treated various skin problems, done several small biopsies and removed a nasty infection from a spider bite. She has taken a few growths off my face without a noticeable scar. I do have some scars from other minor surgeries, so I think this is due to her skill level. I can't speak more highly of a doctor. She answered all my questions and explained conditions patiently. She gave me samples of expensive medications- so I didn't need to pay a few hundred dollars for a prescription. Her office is busy and I don't always like taking time to speak with an assistant first, but that is the way medicine is these days. It can take a long time to get an appointment with her. Last time, her assistant did a free test for another skin condition which I didn't even ask about. Plus she gave me a handout on how to treat it. Her waiting room is beautiful, but I would be happy to wait anywhere as I have complete confidence in this doctor. read more

I had a skin condition that started Sept 2019 as an insect bite. I first went to Oregon Clinic under Michael Adler, long story short, after an initial 15 minute consultation and almost $500 and me asking for second visit that we agreed that I will not pay for, 6 months after, the issue still exists. On Jan 2020, I decided to see Dr Jill Moore. I was very hesitant because I felt that it would be the same outcome and ill be out hundreds for nothing. The experience and the results were different. It was very difficult making an appointment but the front desk guy Chris really worked with me to get me in sooner. Dr Moore's assistant also named Chris was very helpful and she really took the time to get my history etc. Ally who is the business manager in the office is also worth mentioning. Finally, meeting Dr Moore was absolutely fantastic. She carefully listened and really tried to understand my concerns and history to come up with a good prognosis and treatment. I left there feeling hopeful but not really optimistic until I started the regimen she put me in. I saw results that I never got with Dr Adler. I am not a fan of doctors in general because I feel that all they do is read a textbook and think that everyone fits in certain boxes which maybe the case at times but it doesn't work that way every time. I'm a pretty healthy individual and my few experiences with doctors just make me question motives and competency. There are very few doctors in my lifetime that I can say I truly trust and Jill Moore won my trust. She even gave me an alternative option to buy my ointment through a coop pharmacy which saved me 70%. I have a high deductible plan which means I have to pony up the first 3K which is a huge deal. I have no problems paying up but I need to know that I will get real solutions that work and not just be milked with trial and error solutions. I know now why this place is rated highly. The whole organization has a culture where the highest priority manifests in patient service and satisfaction. read more

I was very satisfied with the visit I had with Amy and her nurse. There were clear options to take moving forward for my treatment and they initiated the process. I was discouraged that this appointment took 4mo. to schedule. I thought my participation in the drug trials would give me at least some preferential treatment to get in earlier for regular treatment. Dr. Rich is well respected by other doctors, particularly for nails. She is curious, passionate, highly experienced, and really looks to figure out what's going on. Having said that, she wasn't able to tell me much about some deformed nails despite two visits. She was very late and not prepared. I think she's over booked. She travels for conferences, teaches, conducts research trials, mentors, and sees patients. She had 5 patients scheduled at once and a slew of research participants coming in all at the same time. She is the only doctor in her clinic and I think she overly relies on her assistants for intake and care that normally a doc would provide. I had a 9:30 appointment and wasn't seen by Phoebe until 10:45. She hadn't read any of the chart notes that had been taken over the phone, photos that I'd emailed, nor during the interview by the assistant at 9:45. It takes 2 months to see her for a rushed 15 minutes. Wishes: - Slow down and don't book so many people at once - Read case notes and view images before entering exam room so patients don't have to repeat themselves - Research tough issue and follow-up proactively - Maybe specialize in only nails to narrow down focus and care. read more

Okay, this is one story. Take it for what it's worth. I went to Dr. Rich many years ago when my toes were purple. She thought it was a fungal issue and prescribed some very heavy duty medicine which would require blood testing for liver damage. A couple of days later my acupuncturist informed me that what I had was Reynaud's syndrome......which other doctors later confirmed....and which is not handled with toxic meds. Fortunately I did not get the IMHO dangerous drug. But I did feel amazed that someone whose specialty was dermatology would miss a diagnosis this profoundly. read more

Very communicative, helpful, and caring. We were lucky to see Dr. Jill Moore. She treated my mom with the respect due to any human and quickly came to understand my mom's unique needs due to her dementia. She spoke to us as if she were treating her own parent, which was just what we needed. We were able to have a suspicious growth removed on the first visit, as well as other needed testing. I have been coming to Oregon Dermatology and Research Center for over 10 years now. I love them. The entire staff, from Dr. Phoebe Rich to Jill Moore, Dr. Anna Hare- are great and each has helped me out with very specific issues that they specialize in. HOWEVER, Amy Simpson, PA-C has been the provider that has seen me most over my decade of coming to this clinic. She is extremely intelligent, but her warmth, caring and empathy round everything out so that you can tell her anything, which only helps you in the process of finding cures for all kinds of skin problems. I have many co-morbidities (things wrong with me). But, I also have a very rare terminal cancer that wreaks havoc with my skin - some in way's I'd not seen since I was in jr. high. I developed these absolutely enormous cysts on my face that had been dormant for over 35 years. She got me completely cured in just under six weeks. I was just blown away. This is one of the most recent things she has helped me with. But she also manages medications that I take for about four other skin issues that are ongoing. If you see Amy, or Dr. Moore, Dr. Hare or Dr. Rich, trust me, between them I think they can solve any problem you may present with. I see Amy on a very regular basis now with this cancer diagnosis and I'm so happy I will not die looking like I did when I was 15 years old and cysts the size of my pinky finger on my face. Not to mention blackheads, combination oily skin/dry skin, regular smaller cystic acne and l think at one point we even managed some Rosacea. I just happen to have my primary relationship with Amy Simpson PA-C, but trust me, no matter who you get, they will solve your skin problems to the best of their ability- which, in my case has been completely. Also, being a nail specialist, Dr. Rich performed a procedure on a toe nail of mine that was a huge problem. I can't remember all the details, but in office complete fix of a toe nail that was in really bad shape. I hadn't noticed until it started to hurt, but she knew exactly what was wrong and in an hour, the procedure was over, the pain was gone, and the nail was back to normal within just a couple of weeks. Dr. Moore also helped one time with another really strange issue. I can't even remember what that one was. But, it was somewhat serious as I have terrible edema in my legs and this complicates skin problems to a great degree. Dr. Hare I've only seen once, but again, she solved a problem of helping me with a treatment that addressed specifically my poor skin on one leg that had some terrible inflamation on top of the edema. I was really impressed with this. But, I gotta circle back to Amy, because I can not believe how intelligent she is and how many problems (new and old) she solves for me every two months. At least three different things every two months get solved because of Amy Simpson PA-C. You simply will not find a better group of doctors that compliment each other so well with their sub-specialities. I know, no matter how bad something is or how terrible something has come back, she always fixes it. Chris, at the front desk is above and beyond accommodating too. And he is another person that really likes their job here. There is another receptionist that sort of works under Chris, and she is just super nice, too. My billing has always been perfect- never once was anything submitted incorrectly. You WILL NOT FIND A BETTER DERMATOLOGY PRACTICE WITH THIS MUCH EXPERIENCE OR EMPATHY ANYWHERE ELSE. I loved my visit. The office is organized and friendly, and I was instantly at ease. The exam was the most thorough skin exam I've ever had. I had seen a primary doctor and an urgent care doctor prior to this visit, and had received a prescription that wasn't helping. It took me 3 months to finally get the referral here, but I am so relieved. Not only was the treatment caring and professional, but at last I have a medication that works for my condition, and I can finally sleep through the night. After reading so many good reviews about Dr. Rich, I decided she was the one. When I made my appointment, I specifically said I wanted to see her and not any of her assistans/PAs for my first visit. I got there a little early and was handed a bunch of paper work. About 30 seconds into filling it out, I was called in. It's good that I didn't have to wait, but geez, give me a minute to fill out the papers. I was first seen by an assistant who asked me a bunch of questions about my history. She made me uncomfortable. Next, another doctor came in and asked me a lot of the same questions, somewhat examined me. She was kind of condescending. Finally Dr. Rich came in and I felt super rushed. She barely addressed my main issue other than just kind of agreeing with what the other two had already said and done. I had to remind her of the other small things I was concerned about (even though I told the previous two people) and she quickly patronized me and basically blew me off. I have been a patient of Dr. Rich for over 20 years. Until about three years ago, my annual visits were adequate to continue seeing her. My last three visits were strange and disappointing. For example,my last visit went lke this: waited in the lobby for 30-45 minutes, waited in the exam room for another HOUR. Yes, an hour. It was freezing! Then, she rushes in. Doesn't listen. Dismisses my concerns with one word answers: "age", "sun damage", etc. Makes a half-hearted attempt to apply liquid nitrogen treatment - the device was empty. So, She leaves the room, returns after a few minutes with a product pamphlet, hands it to me, writes a prescription for the product, gives it to her assistant and rushes out the door. The bill was filed with a long list of services and charges that did not fit the services I received. I will never go back. read more

I just had an awesome dermatology appointment with Dr Phoebe Rich. She is an amazing doctor and her staff is fabulous. I usually have to wait a bit to see her but I dont mind at all. One time when I had a complicated skin rash she spent nearly an hour with me to diagnose and properly treat my problem, (a problem that 2 other skin doctors could not help me with). She had a full schedule that day and her time with me caused her to be behind but even then she did not try to rush. The bottom line is that she will spend as much time as it takes to get it right. Now that is top of the line medical care in my book. The thing I like most about her is that she acts like a friend. She is warm and caring and remembers things that I told her in the past visits. I wish I could just hang out with her sometime for a glass of wine to talk about HER. She is so compassionate and kind and sometimes very humorous.
