And y'all know, everything had tomatoes on it. After the note clearly states "no tomatoes." Then she says oh I'll take them out. Hmmm, NO, MA'AM, you won't. First off, we were seated and we asked for a drink menu only to find out that they did not serve alcohol. We were told we could bring in our own. Oh? There goes our cocktails as we were not leaving to go get our own. Then the server. She had the personality of a tree frog at best. Not friendly or interactive and it was almost like she wanted to be anywhere else but working there. The menu is impressive. Lots of choices. We ordered and the food came rather quickly. Food was ok but Very pricey. would I go there again, probably not. On a different note, the owner was friendly. it was a bit warm and we asked our server to lower it. She said she would have to check with the manager. He came by and asked if we were warm. Duh. Yes. so he lowered it. Hmm, I went here today and the food seemed like it wasn't the same as before...Almost like the chef or the owner was changed. The recipe for the Moussaka seemed to have changed from what I remembered. The tomato sauce drenched all of the basmati rice creating this weird, wet texture with the rice and veggies. I would not recommend this dish unless you really love soggy tomato sauce and eggplant. My combo gyro and shawarma was okay but just not the same quality as before. The sauces were watery and lacked a lot of flavor. Last but not least our Fried Kibby was not crunchy and kind of bland. It was kind of soft in the center and fell apart when we but into it. The sauce for this was also pretty watery. If this place is under new ownership or is under a new chef, I hope that they do well and their recipes can improve over time. read more

This restaurant is 100% halal. This is great for anyone with dietary restrictions. The must try food items are definitely the Falafel for appetizer, and the Combination Shawarma for the meal. The portions are pretty large but most of all, the meat here is seasoned. Many places just grill meat and then give you condiments to spice it up. The meat here is always cooked well and you can taste the freshness and that it was seasoned and prepared prior to cooking. They have ample parking outside and are great for hosting events and parties. Their prices are fair, and they always do a great job. They have a ton of seating inside, so finding a table won't be an issue. There's also TVs inside so you can watch any games/events while eating here. This place has good and bad days. Past two visits were not good. Went this week and they had a private party without any noticed or sign and was greeted very rude when we try placing an order. Second time food tastes old and steal. Hummus tastes like a lot of lime juice and falafel were greasy and taste of old grease. Fries were cold and steal. I see from other reviews that I have not been the only one with a critical experience. The Gyros were in chunks and not cleanly cut off of the spit. The hummus lost its pizzaz - bland taste. I had the lamb shops, they were just mediocre, not terrible. The humus was good, 7/10. My husband had the gyro and it was terrible 4/10. The waitress was more worried about her phone than helping us. Well today we decided to give them another try. We walked in the place and there was only one couple sitting at a table. The food is always fresh, plentiful, reasonably priced, and delicious! I have been coming here for almost as long as it's been open. I came to NO to wait for my sons plane to touch down. Had a couple hours to spare so I decided to check out this close by eastern food/hookah spot. The outside of the place looks like it could uses some upgrades but it's not about the outside but basically don't let the outside turn you away. I was greeted by a friendly lady and served promptly. I ordered the lamb and shrimp kebab, a Lebonese tea, and some watermelon mint hookah. My food was well presented, my drink was very good and the hookah was satisfying. We had intimated multiple times during the week as well as on the day of the celebration that we were going to be party of about 25-30, It was a wedding anniversary celebration. After a long wait appetizers were brought out. Then we started to order the main course which was mostly Falafeel plates. We were told that they were out of falafeel !!!! Wait what ? A lebanese restaurant out of falafeel ? Everything was downhill from then on. Employees were unfriendly and rude - they just wanted to be done with. To his credit, the owner (Khalil ?) did show up and somehow manage to find falafeel to complete the orders. The bill was $700+ with a $118 gratuity added automatically. The couple that was the subject of the celebration were so stressed - Phonecias ruined their day..... :( They will never get a penny worth of business from me. What a shame. !!! read more

I would love to give this restaurant a better rating, seeing as how heir food is good. But we had a service issue, and we reached out to them about it but got no response. My husband and I went for dinner and we're re only people there. We got drinks fairly quickly, but then it took the waitress 15 minutes to take our order. She was pretty sour, and we felt like it was a bother for her to help us. We placed our order and probably 5 minutes later needed drink refills. We tried to flag her down with no luck. She did not come back to the table until the appetizer came out, about 10 minutes after our drinks ran out. Once we got our food she barely even looked our way. What was she doing? She was sitting in a booth diagonal from us, talking to someone on her cell phone. Finally the only other waitress there took over. She was friendly and efficient. We got the bill. There was a charge for an extra side on it. We questioned it, because we each got a plate and the menu said the plates came with two sides. The (new) waitress informed us that the plate my husband got only came with one side- and that our waitress should have told us that (since it's not stated on the menu) if not when we initially ordered, certainly when he requested the two sides. However, she did not take the charge off of the bill (even after admitting it was the fault of the waitress). We were livid. I've never sat in a restaurant with my waitress chilling in a booth right across the room from me chatting on her cell phone and totally ignoring me. I really like the food! I was in the area, so I decided to stop in for a quick lunch after I checked Yelp and I saw that they had a pretty good lunch special. Walking in, there was no one else here at 2. I get it- it's a little late for lunch. I knew what I wanted, so I ordered immediately. I got the beef shawarma lunch special which comes with rice, hummus and pita bread. It was just okay. The rice was pretty good, so I had so complaints there and the hummus was good as well. The meat, while spiced well with a nice flavor, was really tough. I don't know if it was a poor cut of meat or overcooked, but it was hard to get through it. Also, the pita was a bit stale and not warm, which was disappointing. The waiter was very nice and attentive and my food came out shortly after I ordered it. Before tip, my lunch was a bit over $10 and I do think that it is well worth the price for what you get. It sure beats going to a chain for lunch. While I wouldn't rush back, I wouldn't hesitate to give them another shot if I am in the area for lunch. read more

So, while not big drinkers we do enjoy a beer or wine with meals and decided to leave to check out 2 other restaurants in the Independence mall which all had waiting lists but all served adult beverages. Not wanting to wait, we left to go to the nearby Zia's and had a wonderful meal. I've been to the Middle East and I have not tried a better Falafel or Baba ghanouj than here at Phoenicia!! The lentil soup is always hot and fresh. The salmon kabob is cooked to perfection and the rice is delicious. I've been to both locations here in Metairie and Baton Rouge and the quality is always consistent! If you go make sure you get Rachel as a server because she is excellent and I'm so glad she told me to try the Lebanese's tea because it's AWESOME you'll never be able to drink regular sweet tea again after trying this.
