When this place first opened my family loved it. I particularly learn if some really good Dim Sum dishes. And then there was a shutdown for health violation. I made excuses and told others it happens everywhere. Then it happened again. And again. And again and again and again. Typical Chinese-Canadian buffet, food isn't overly delicious but it's hot and all-you-can-eat. Lunch is only $12 and is very busy at lunch time on Fridays. Parking could be an issue during the lunch hour as parking lot is shared amongst other strip mall business. read more

Was in Red Deer for business and the Phoenix Buffet was highly recommended. The atmosphere was your typical Asian restaurant, nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly. The buffet has a lot of delicious food... which seems to " never end". It was a bit odd that the buffet offered turkey graveyard and mashed potatoes. They have a steamer section that has dumplings and other steamed items. Overall, food was very tasty, service was excellent. Recommend if you are hungry... as there so many choices. read more

Whom ever thinks this is good Chinese food they have never tasted GOOD Chinese! My family of 5 walked out of there all saying "YUCK"! Everything had a funky after taste. Non of my family members are picky eaters, but lets just say, alot of food remained on our plates. Went Phoenix 4yrs ago and it wasn't the greatest but thought we would give it another chance and I think it's worse. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. :) read more

I like the food here and if you eat in they have an incredible amount of items to choose from. Buffet pricing is very good as well. They offer everything at the buffet from soups and salads, cold items, desserts, dim sum offerings, western food, and Canadian Chinese food. They do a good job keeping the trays full and warm as well. Service of water etc is prompt and polite as is reception upon entering. We find it decent for take out as well. Not a top of the line place but sometimes I just love good old canadianised Chinese food ;) read more

I am not a fan of buffets because I don't eat enough to make it worthwhile. I still try to get value so I end up waddling out after eating too much mediocre food. Not my idea of a good time or money well spent. This place is run down and in the corner of a strip mall in the middle of nowhere. There's also something about eating out of a trough that isn't appealing. I can see kids breathing on the food since the dishes are at eye level for them, then self serving ice cream with unwashed hands. These places are not food safe and I'm not sure how they continue to operate. I'm taking out all my feelings about buffets on this review but it was a perfect representation of everything I detest about buffets. I did recently give another buffet in Edmonton a 4 star review but they did things very different and wasn't a sad run down hole in the wall. Phoenix Buffet is an awesome restaurant; it's definitely my favourite Chinese food place in Red Deer. Their sesame chicken is my favourite meat item there and I almost always enjoy the chow mein, topped with a bit of sweet & sour sauce. However, I recently went to Phoenix and got take-out from the buffet, mostly consisting of sesame chicken & chow mein, as it's a better deal than eating there (you get more doing take-out). Plus I was by myself and wasn't going to eat alone there. Almost all of the chow mein I got tasted a little burnt, like it was sitting on the hot plate too long without being mixed around. It wasn't TOO bad though, especially with sweet & sour sauce. It sucks that the sesame chicken is served only during the supper buffet (more expensive than lunch) And it's a bit disappointing there is never any ginger beef at the buffet anymore. All in all though, great tasting food! read more

Desserts are OK and typical.. cold salad table is a scary mix of canned fruit, shellfish and mixed salads that I've seen in other resteraunts come out of 5 gal buckets. I like that they serve Dim Sum items but they don't turn over often. Anything with chicken avoid..weird slaughterhouse flavour/smell that sauces and batter can't hide. The redmeat fried items weren't edible neither. I liked they had french fries for the kids and soft vanilla ice cream...plus a big roast was good. Without drinks we paid 43$ for 2 adults a 4 year old and a 1 year old who was free. Service was worth a tip. But this place is best for a single parent with multiple kids 0- 2 years old. Phoenix buffet was a great buffet when it just opened, but I feel like the quality of the food has been downgraded. It was mentioned before, the desserts aren't really good. If I really wanted dessert, I would just go with ice cream + chocolate syrup. The price isn't too bad, under $20 for a buffet is worth it. I find that some dish are better in some days. Last time I visited my favourite tapioca pudding was really runny and not sweet at all. I always get the pork dumplings though, I think it's similar to shumai but I'm not exactly sure. read more

Craving dim sum but your friends and family don't share the same enthusiasm? You should try the buffet! Within the buffet, there are 7 or 8 dim sum items as well as a variety of Chinese and western food items and for a good price (around $16 or so a person). I look forward to taking my dad the next time he visits Red Deer. Food (4/5) I found the food above average. It was seasoned well and there was a good assortment that was refilled regularly. My only wish was the broccoli salad was cut up into smaller florets. I tried the hot coconut tapioca for the first time. I enjoyed it. Service (4/5) Great service. We were seated quickly and were given beverages. Our plates were removed within a reasonable time, though it would have been nice to have quicker refills for our beverages. Ambiance/other (4/5) The tables are decently spread out and for the most part it was easy to move around the buffet tables. From the outside, it looks small but once you get in you will be surprised how large the restaurant is! All in all, I am planning to go again and may be interested in ordering off the menu and try takeout or delivery. read more

Very good selection of food both western and Chinese. A small Dim-Sum station is a welcome surprise the sushi station only serves vegetarian rolls no fish at all. The desert station has a very wide offering of different deserts ice cream, jello, cake and fresh pastries. The food was fresh and hot I was here during both peak and low hour and can vouch the food is kept fresh. Server was quick and efficient waters were topped off every time it was empty. Dining room very clean and silverware is kept clean. Overall a good dining experience and I will return. read more

The Phoenix Buffet has become a family favorite when we are travelling through Red Deer. I normally have an assortment of the Chinese food items, but there are always too many choices to try everything in one sitting. Recently I chose a salad plate that included rice rolls with pickled ginger and a soy sauce/wasabi sauce (mixed myself so that it wasn't too spicy) and crispy iceberg lettuce. I also visited the Dim Sum station and while I tried the roe-topped steamed pork balls and the wrapped shrimp, my favorite was a tofu wrapped shrimp/pork/vegetable roll. The egg yolk custard bun that I had for dessert was very like a sponge cake and was delicious. read more

I used to go here cause it was such great service and pretty decent food most times. The most recent time I brought the wife Nd my brother it was some of the worst service I've ever had. When we walked in we didn't get brought to the table, the server poked her head around the corner and said sit where ever. Then we sat for at least 20 mins til my brother had to go up to her and ask if we could get drinks and she continued that type or service most of the time of us being there. The food wasn't as good as it used to be and it just won't be worth me coming back again. read more

If I could give it no stars I would. The food here was absolutely horrid. My husband and I did take out and neither of us made it past 2 bites. Just to mention a few things, the fried rice is made with horrible frozen vegetables far from fresh, the chicken balls were full of grissle, the chow mein was more sprouts than anything thing else and the spring rolls taste like they are out of a box from Costco. i really enjoy ordering from here. and the buffet is great and fresh sooo many items for a great price. one downfall is their battered items like deep friend shrimp and chicken balls are covered in stupid amount of dough i eat at least double the amount of breading than actual meat lol its rough. every now and again their fryer oil isnt up to temp so we get greasy wontons and chicken balls. but great prices for the amount of food take out is in those large foam containers compared to the Med containers red star sends you. ill always eat here aha read more

food was decent enough but quite expensive for what you get. the restaurant was poorly lit and maintained. the buffet area was dirty, especially the desert section. the ice cream freezer had flies buzzing around and the soft serve machine's handle was broken off and very sticky to the touch. not to mention the smell was rancid. i do not recommend giving this restaurant a try. go somewhere else. read more

Yesterday at dinnertime (June 16 at around 6pm) I was in Phoenix Buffet and I was in the washroom. I was washing my hands and fixing my makeup at the sink when I saw one of the employees exit a toilet stall, and without washing her hands, she exited the washroom and went right back to work. I exited a few seconds later and saw her with one of the buffet trays in her hands. She was carrying it from the kitchen to the buffet. It is likely that the buffet and food were contaminated with fecal material. Disgusting. I hate it when there is poop in my food. This employee was female, short stature, medium build (heavier than most of the girls working there). ASIAN. She wore her medium length black hair up with a banana clip (brown in color). Please ask this woman to wash the feces off her hands before she handles the food, however, you can be assured that I will not be back. read more
