Normally I would have just turned around and left but my mother insisted that their food is fantastic. Our waiter, who was extremely nice, was wearing the dirtiest shirt I've ever seen on a waiter or anyone else for that matter. The front of it was black with dirt. Sorry but that's just gross! Inside is old, gloomy and sad. I'm not going to go into detail because this review would be way too long but trust me, it ain't pretty! See pics. I was there at lunch and they have specials that range from 9:50 to 10:50. They include hot and sour soup and an egg roll. I had the steak and shrimp with vermicelli and salad for 10.50 and it was very good. My husband had a pho which was good but he said he's had better. Have to say I couldn't stand the smell of their incense burning while I was eating either. It would be nice if they could perform their offerings to Buddha before customers arrive. Despite the food being pretty decent, there is something to be said for atmosphere and cleanliness and they fail miserably at both and that's why I would never go back. Did I mention the place was pretty much empty?

During my stay in Gatineau, Quebec on a recent May 2016 trip, I found this Vietnamese restaurant…read morenext to my hotel, Motel Moncalm. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to check this place out. Why there is no yelp reviews yet for this place is beyond me. My unofficial quest to have a bowl of Vietnamese Pho in each of the Canadian provinces has led me north of Ottawa, Ontario into the suburban town of Gatineau, Quebec. This would be Canadian province #5 and it's quite nice to be able to be here. I'm glad that Pho and Vietnamese cuisine is readily available anywhere around the world nowadays and it makes me happy. Thankful for Yelp for providing an online directory of businesses to help us search for what we want - especially when we are traveling wherever life takes us. So, here I was at Phoenix du Vietnam restaurant in Gatineau Quebec. It was a random Friday evening and it was nice to be able to have that quietness here. There was probably 2 tables filled, other than myself. The ambiance was quite nice and the service here was decently good and positive. Since I did have a huge bowl of Pho for lunch earlier in the day, I opted for a small bowl of Pho for dinner. Pho du Vietnam Vietnamese restaurant is located at 179 Boulevard Greber, which is one of the main thoroughfares from Gatineau to Ottawa. The restaurant itself seemed to be housed in a big barn, but don't let the outside fool ya. The inside is quite nice and the decorations made everything look pretty and beautiful. They accept credit cards, which is always a big plus for me. The prices here is in line with most of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been though already in the USA and in Canada. With bowls of Pho are small or large, $8 or $10 a bowl is pretty darn good really. With that small bowl of Pho, i ordered a side dish of fried spring rolls, which were pretty good really. Definitely hot out of the kitchen made me have to wait 5-10 minutes before dipping into the sauce and enjoying the crunchy goodness! The Pho itself was as good as ever. Too bad that it was a small bowl, considering that I have had Pho earlier in the day in Ottawa already. For what it's worth, this Vietnamese restaurant in Gatineau, QC is well worth your time and energy to check out, if you are in the area. Good for dates and group dining with family or friends, or tourists like me, who love a good bowl of Pho at an affordable price. Good for lunch and dinner, Vietnamese cuisine is always a winner. Phoenix du Vietnam here in Gatineau QC serves up good food and if you are in the area, I would recommend coming here for your next meal or two. The service, as aforementioned before, is good, subtle, and positive. You can get in and out within 30-45 minutes, depending how much you are eating and how much time you'd like to spend here. Enjoy the ambiance though on a casual Friday evening. Quite satisfying really. :) 4.0 stars. Can't complain! Support local! B

I've been on the search for a good banh canh after having the most amazing one in Vietnam. However,…read moreit has been a hard search because most places don't sell this item so I came here just for this item. It was good compared to others I've tried but still missing a flavor in the broth. Service was quick. The guy who gave us the menus handed us with a paper to write down our order but didn't speak which was fine because we understood what we had to do. Everything was cooked as we ordered and the vegetable spring rolls were amazing and piping hot when they came out. We couldn't even eat/touch them until our main dishes came out. They were also quick to refill our waters as well. Interestingly enough, the guy who handed us our menus actually finally spoke perfect English when we went to pay. This was a good local spot which consist of actual Vietnamese owners/cooks. There was also a group of Vietnamese ladies who were definitely regulars.

I got takeout at Huong's for my husband and I and overall we were happy with our meals…read more I got the Grilled beef, grilled chicken and spring roll vermicelli ($11.75) for myself and the Grilled beef, grilled chicken and grilled shrimp on rice for my husband ($11.75). The beef was really tender and flavourful. I did get a fatty and gristley piece though :( but on the most part, the beef was lean. The chicken was lean and a tiny bit dry, but still flavourful a tasty. The shrimp were medium sized and ok. Not that plump nor juicy, but for the price, not surprising. The spring roll was mostly wrapper and too oily for my liking. The rice dish came with fresh cucumbers and pickled radishes and pickled carrots. The vermicelli dish came with shredded lettuce and bean sprouts, which were underneath the vermicelli. It also came with pickled carrots and crushed peanuts. The fresh vegetables were fresh and the picked vegetables had a good sour bite to them. We also got a tub of fish sauce, which neither of us like, but my dad does, so I saved it and gave it to him on the weekend when I went to see my parents. I appreciated that they labelled the fish sauce with a warning to open slowly (with a smiley face, lol). Food is packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for environmental and health reasons. Service was very courteous and efficient. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I returned in 22 minutes and they were just tying up the bag. Perfect timing! Note that the prices on their takeout menu (pictured) are outdated. My dishes were listed as $9.50 each on the menu, but I was charged $11.75, which is still a great deal. Prices have gone up as a result of the Covid Pandemic, so I get it. I would just suggest that they print new takeout menus. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path in Chinatown. Street parking only.

Service was very quick and friendly…read more We got the Bo Tai Chanh ($14) which is a Vietnamese beef carpaccio, with onions, herbs, peanuts, lime juice and a dipping sauce that probably has fish sauce and soy sauce in it. It was delicious and the portion was pretty generous; you get a lot of beef! I got the Bun Bo Hue ($14) which is a spicy beef noodle soup with lemongrass. The broth was tasty and so flavourful! The portion was pretty substantial too. My boyfriend got the Bun Rieu ($14) which is a crab/tomato/pork broth based noodle soup. I had a taste of the soup and it was also really good! I especially loved that they give you a full variety of herbs to add to the soup noodles, which not all Vietnamese restaurants do these days. Too bad this location is far from me, but I would definitely come back for more!

We were lucky in our timing and managed to sit as we arrived. We always order spring rolls and rice wraps no matter where we go, and these were good. Our table enjoyed a variety of soups from a basic chicken and egg noodle to rare beef rice noodle and two special soups, one based on a traditional broth and the other Tom Yum. The traditional broth was good, flavorful and fragrant. The Tom Yum had just the right amount of heat, but was too much of a good thing for me to really enjoy it fully. The portions were good, quick and delicious. Definitely would visit again!
